WHB is a good spot for a nice dinner. The food was fresh and offered many outside of the box options. I had the Phish Stuff and it was Peruvian ceviche and it was AWESOME. My wife had the seafood linguini and it was only ok. The other two in our party had 1 great meal and one only ok meal. The staff was very accommodating and Lexi was a friendly waitress. Good spot for fresh local food and a relaxed atmosphere

New ownership. Super nice staff. GREAT food. The kind of place you can eat an amazing meal while listening to '80s hair metal (if that's your thing). Turns into a more conventional bar, sometimes with local cover bands (with a few originals) and it's one of the few places in town that can Phil of catering to both the twenty-somethings and the older clientele who vacation here.

The waitress spilled wine on the floor beside the table and had to be asked 20 minutes later to clean up the wine beside handicapped guest at our table. Also she switched the wines and I got my friends wine and she got mine, when we told her about the mix up her only concern was were we having another. Ordered a simple medium well burger came out charred and inedible. Waited 45 minutes for food in an empty dining area. Owner should be checking on tables.

Outstanding. Service and food was excellent. Will return when we visit

We went hear on the recommendation of our hotel and were not disappointed. They were introducing a new menu. Note: The vegetarian options were limited. We started with the plantains with avocado salsa and it was delish! The boyfriend had the seafood linguini ( which was squid ink linguini, seafood meatballs, and roasted artichokes served with toasted garlic bread.). The portion was large and my BF ate the whole thing. I ordered the intercontinental salad which is their version of the Caesar salad with extra veggies like carrot, red onion, bell pepper). The salad was so good that the boyfriend ate every scrap of lettuce that I did not consume. We were too full for dessert. So we enjoyed the summer breeze on the patio while finishing our drinks and listening to reggae. This is a great eatery in town that is fair priced and located just a block from the main downtown and walking distance from most hotels. There is amble street parking and a lot across the street. I give it a thumbs up. Note: They offer live music on the weekends around 9:30pm. The bands vary. We happened to be there when a metal band played. The music was not to our taste but it sure drew a crowd. So eat early if you want to skip the music venue. -Chitown Veg Gal.

Wow! What a fantastic addition to the Saugatuck experience! We dined with friends visiting from Chicago over the weekend and had a great time. I had the Amberjack fish special - delicious! This kids had the "Make Your Own Pizza", which uses fresh ingredients on top of a handmade pita-style crust. The kids loved it. Our friend gave two thumbs up to the lobster club sandwich. We really enjoyed the open layout of the space and the decor has a beach-style character that does a great job of reminding you that you are on a "Pure Michigan" vacation. We will be back soon with more friends!

Incredibly delicious food at this friendly little bistro. My husband and I shared a delicious chick pea and short rib appetizer, a refreshingly cool updated Caesar salad and an unbelievable halibut and pineapple salsa entree. Lots of creative cooking going on here....we loved it all! Great service & fabulous food....wish we lived closer so we could try out the entire menu!!!

This place has done a compete change and for the better! Food was fantastic...full of flavor and definitely different than anything else offered in Saugatuck! Have been there twice for lunch and would like to go back for dinner sometime.
(5)Keri W.
SO impressed with the changes made to this place! Great atmosphere, very tasty food and good service! Went for lunch twice so far and was pleased both times with my meals! Lobster bisque and crab dip are delicious!! Will for sure return!

Very impressive!! my boyfriend and I were walking on the street looking for something tasty, and unique to eat. The menu looked really good, and the food was phenomenal! He got a steak, and i got the 'bacon and eggs. Food was SO tasty!!! And extremely well priced. Our server was so sweet too, she gave really good recomendations, and the whole experience was pleasent. White house bistro is now our "new favorite restaurant in michigan!' we sat outside and listened to live music too! this place is a must go to if youre in the area!!!

I would give them no stars if I could. This restaurant refused to honor a gift certificate which was purchased as a gift for us at substantial cost. Yes, I know it is new ownership, but the son bought the restaurant from the father and will not honor a gift certificate? Ridiculous. Additionally, the menu was nothing great. Save your money and have a great dinner at Phil's instead!

Came here for dinner once and man, this place is awful. Bland food. Canned veggie sides, unseasoned meat, cold bread, ugh. Awful awful awful. To call it Gordon Food Service food would be a slam against GFS. I had an awful piece of salmon with overcooked corn on the side. We ordered the Saganaki as an appetizer and they brought it out without anything to eat it with. We asked for some bread to go with it and the waitress seemed so confused. Finally she brought it out and it was like it had just come out of the freezer to thaw. While we were eating they had a really awful band playing. The female vocalist was horrible to the ears. Came to find out from someone we spoke to in town that she's the owner's wife. Oof. Bad entertainment, bad food, bad service. Nothing about it was appealing other than the jokes we still get out of how bad the meal was. It may be a fun place for drinks and live music (if another band is playing other than the one we saw) but I won't give it a shot again to find out. Sorry, White House Bistro.

Just enjoyed one of the best nights of my life here! You may think a casual restaurant/bar is an odd place for a wedding reception, but it was perfect after a small, casual beach wedding! About 20 of us ordered off the menu...I had some damn good enchiladas. They could gave done with less raw red onion throughout the filling, but I picked out what I could. The drinks were good, strong and plentiful; the service could not have been better! I wish I had gotten the name of the singer/guitarist who played out on the patio....Jimmy Buffet tunes and the like were the perfect soundtrack as we partied the night away in celebration. From the set up in the afternoon to when the last guest left, Leah,Ben, Jarrod, Joanne and the owner, David, were friendly, extremely helpful, and very tolerant! Thanks for a wonderfully memorable night!

Beyond traditional dining, with a unique dinning room and entrees to match. Multiple items that you will want to try, so narrowing then down will be tough. The phish dish was amazing and the meatballs one of a kind. :) let me add, the service was phenomenal too!
(5)Patrick H.
Evidently the restaurant has been under new ownership since Spring 2013, so if you dined there previously but not since, give it another try. The menu is creative yet approachable, the service is excellent, and everything we ordered was wonderfully prepared. Easily the best restaurant in Saugatuck.
(5)Kal B.
Someone mentioned a lackluster dinner. Not sure where that would have occurred. When we arrived at 10 or so it was packed with dancers. When my sister asked for a cafe patron' and they didn't have it she ordered 3 kamikazes and the bartender made them with lots of personality! :) Looked like a fun spot for locals and tourists alike and no one was having a bad time. Note: You cannot get cafe' patron in Saugatuck Michigan at ANY bar -- save yourself a lot of kamikazes trying!
(4)Steve M.
We went here with a party of 6 and everyone really enjoyed the experience. The mussels and lamb meatball appetizers were amazing and everyone was fighting over them for more. The entrees were quite good and the Ross perogies and the burger are recommended. The pizza was good but I'd recommend sharing it with someone else and getting something else on the menu for a little variation. One weird thing that happened is a random employee approached us before we ate our entrees and asked if we could condense a party of six to a small four top table. We politely declined because it was physical impossible. We didn't hold it against them but thought it was a strange request.
(4)David C.
Breakfast was really well done. Simple, but well prepared.
(4)Nate S.
I find the extremely negative reviews to be strange for this place. Is it the best restaurant in town? No. But, it has a good atmosphere and yes, the owners are very courteous and engaging. We are the type of people who like to have fun conversation with the workers, and this is certainly the place for that! They may come around the table and strike up a conversation, which is pretty cool. The only negative I experienced was probably the dirty floors. These aren't nasty, sticky floors... just something for the restaurant to maintain a little better. That being said, the food was good, the music was good, and we enjoyed ourselves at one of the lesser-crowded places. Check it out!
(4)Stephanie M.
My friends and I stopped here on Saturday morning for breakfast - service was terrible - the waitress was very rude, actually telling us that we were high maintenance when we asked for changes to our order - it was breakfast sandwiches made on English muffins, instead of sourdough - doesn't seem too hard to me and why does it take 45-50 minutes for our order to come? and why was everything cold? We definitely will not go back.
(1)Anders N.
Food was below average and the drinks could have been better. I had a bloody mary which was spicy yet lacked in taste. Staff is very friendly and if live music is your thing this might just be your spot. We had a reservation and we still had a one hour wait for a table. I wouldn't go back.
(2)Mj F.
Good food, good service, nice bar
(4)Sandy H.
I am wondering if the White House has new owners because we were there over the weekend and found that the staff were very rude especially the bartenders. We will never go there again. I think they need to take some customer service workshops!
(1)Guinness D.
We had an awesome dinner! The new menu is wonderful. All fresh ingredients and made from scratch! A huge change from their old menu. Everything we had was so delicious - from the white bean bruschetta to the crabcakes to encrusted salmon. It was all amazing! The white bean puree on the bruschetta was unbelievable! And the taste sensation continued with my Crabcakes. Both dishes were some of the best I have ever had! The salmon was so fresh tasting - like it had just been caught that day. Many compliments to the chef! This place is definitely worth trying since they have a new menu.
(5)Nick F.
What? A BISTO? Bad advertising if I ever saw! We made the mistake of eating dinner here once... Never again! This is a bar with bad bar food and bad service. All frozen foods, and tastes like cigarettes! Please don't come here for dinner. Cheap beer and loud music maybe, but not food! And if you work here... PLEASE CHANGE THE NAME!
(1)Briana J.
I had a great time here! It has live music on the weekends and the band is great. They play the kind of songs that everyone knows the words to. Three Van Morrison songs...awesome. Additionally, they take requests and are willing to allow patrons to sing, should they be so inspired. The food was good...nothing great but it was very inexpensive. This place is small so the owners also pop over to say hello...and if they like you, which I am sure they will, they will buy you a drink! This place is also a gallery for local artists! It is just a very fun, spirited place and if you are in town you should pop in!
(4)Jessie Z.
Orgasm on a plate. My tongue made love to the lobster balls. Nothing went wrong. I had the lobster and shrimp meatballs linguine and I was fanominal! Lobster roll is the best west of the east coast. I don't even order any of the liking without being on the E coast, and I'm glad a friend did! Jimmy Carter had the same effect. Sweeeet dessert is a must. Wish I lived here. Get the asparagus app if available. Cool peeps. Great, delicious, fresh cuisene.
(5)Mike M.
We were here for dinner over Labor Day weekend. We were all really blown away. We had a mix of salad, sandwiches, and entrees in our group and everyone raved about their dishes. A little off the main drag in downtown Saugatuck, but worth the detour!
(5)Vince S.
Lunch time on a Sunday in October. We had a very friendly waitress who gave us very good suggestions for our meal selections. My wife and I split a chicken style sandwich along with their soup of the day accompanied by separate Bloody Mary drinks.
(4)Autumn E.
Absolutely fabulous food and great service. Food is fresh... Almost like they picked out that day. Great attention to flavor and complimentary sides. Drinks are just right... Not watered down. Mixed well. Cost equals quality.
(5)Tracey G.
Excellent sandwich for lunch! The EU. Grilled chicken on Naan with cucumbers tomatoes and creamy dressing!! Yummy! Husband had the lobster salad and he enjoyed his very much as well. Good service.
(5)Tova R.
The food was awesome! They know how to cook! Although they resisted serving my vegan diet, they ended up having an amazing plantain appetizer that was totally vegan and a great salad. Really good food!
(5)Hannah C.
White House has great atmosphere and attentive service, but the food stole the show. We had two appetizers, the fried plantains and the mussels, both were excellent.
(5)Alyssa M.
The dining area was empty when we arrived, which made me nervous, but White House was actually quite good. The service was great. Out waiter was super attentive and knowledgable. The food was also good. I got the lbj which I enjoyed. We even went back at night for a live band.
(4)Matt F.
Excellent food and service for our party of 11--including five children. The Jimmy Carter was delicious.
(5)Stacy P.
Excellent service and food! This place is deceiving from the outside! The inside is nicely decorated
(4)Carrie R.
Very good food. Service was ok. Sat on the patio which was a fun ambiance. My husband got the fish special and I got the falafel. We were both happy with our meals. FYI-- there is no lunch menu so expect to pay dinner prices. My husbands special was $26 for lunch!

We were in Saugatuck on the 4th of July with our grandson and were looking for a spot to eat lunch. It just so happens we found a parking space around the corner from The White House Bistro. We had never been before and took a chance. The weather was fantastic so we sat outside on the porch. Our waitress, Cecelia, was great. Very helpful with the menu, very friendly, and attentive. We ordered a burger for our grandson, oysters on the half shell and fried oysters for appetizers. All were very good. For lunch we ordered a Lobster Roll and an Italian Sub served warm. Both were OUTSTANDING. The menu was quite diverse and offered a great selection of salads, sandwiches, main courses for dinner, and desserts. It is safe to say that this will be our new "go to spot" in Saugatuck!

White House Bistro is an exercise in duality. The menu screams gourmet, the presentation is certainly top-notch and the taste matches. We had the crab cake appetizer, fried oysters and the falafel sandwich and all 3 were fantastic. The surreal part of the experience is the decor, which isn't "bad" per se but it's a kitchy beach house vibe where there's a giant spoon anchored to a wall, TV's everywhere and weathered wood panels painted with pastel colors. It's also fairly-brightly lit. In some ways it feels like you wandered into a beach house restaurant that should be serving fish tacos and beer but you can easily order a $50 crab legs dinner or a filet and have it match even a Chicago steakhouse. Everyone there was dressed in jeans and sweatshirts, so my date and I felt overdressed, but that was the only negative to be seen. Definitely not a sexy date place despite the "bistro" title, but the food is fantastic so I recommend it without reservation.
(4)Bill W.
Good food, good beer, good service. Did I mention great food? I will be back. I recommend the fish dish with the mussels to start. Service is friendly and knowledgeable. Compliments to the chef
(5)Nathan F.
Quaint outdoor porch served well by an attentive staff. Menu excels in the area of seafood - we loved the lobster roll, which was amazing to find so well done outside of Massachusetts. App standouts are definitely the short ribs. For a finale, try the unique beer float - it's a killer juxtaposition of bitter, malty, buttery, and sweet. Wins on all fronts, but pricey.
(4)Susan C.
The best fish we have had in Saugatuck!! Outdoor seating is really a nice touch. Service was great and the food is always very good. Highly recommend the Bistro.
(5)Carolyn H.
Great lunch on the patio. My husband had the Sicilian sandwich with curly fries. He said it was the best he's had in a long time. I had the chicken Gyro with a side of sautéed vegetables. The naan bread was soft and fresh, the chicken was good but should have been seasoned more during cooking. The sauce, etc. on the gyro did provide good flavor. The side of veggies was outstanding - broccoli, zuchini, mushrooms (fresh) and carrots were perfectly cooked and seasoned. Would come back.

Stopped in here last night with some friends for dinner and we were pleasantly surprised by not only our dinner choices but, also with the service we received from Patrick. His dinner recommendations were spot on and his witty humor was welcoming! We've been to Saugatuck many times over the last few years and have never tried the White House for dinner. Needless to say, we will for sure be returning!
(4)Liz M.
Nicole was such a pleasant and sweet waitress. Prompt, but not overbearing. Food was delicious. Highly recommend the seafood bisque!
(5)Lily X.
Probably the worst restaurant we've been to in Saugatuck. We waited for 50 minutes after placing our orders, and finally had to get everything to go as we had to leave, and this was after asking our server to expedite the order as much as possible since we were in a hurry, I can't imagine how long a normal order would take. One thing we ordered was the Bouillabaisse based on their recommendation; we were told it was supposed to be a big bowl of all kinds of fresh seafood, what we got was a half full soup container. The worst part is everything was very stale, felt like they just poured a couple of canned seafood and heated it up. The shrimps' heads were already black and smelt stinky, and everything was extremely salty. It was so awful that it was practically inedible, and obviously we couldn't even tell the kitchen since we had to take everything to go, not sure if that had anything to do with the quality of the food. The only thing I can say is, definitely stay away from Bouillabaisse!
(1)Jeremy C.
The food was good. My problem was the service. The waitress couldn't stop asking if she could take our plates. She kept saying "no rush", but was clearly trying to push us out quickly. After I finished my beer, she never bothered to ask if I wanted another - she simply took the glass and left. The tables and chairs were all being moved during the middle of our meal. To top it off, our bill had an automatic 20% tip added on a party of two. I hope my message reaches the management because the food was good. I want to see this place do well. FIX YOUR SERVICE! Let people enjoy their meals! Make your waitstaff provide good service to earn their tips!
(1)maria f.
Since we went over Fourth of July weekend I hope that's why the experience was so poor. After taking over five minutes to be greeted our server was a hot mess. The food was mediocre at best. Our server OFCOURSE took forever to get our bill and didn't get us a detailed copy after I gave him my card. I'm 99% sure we were over charged but I was to angry to wait longer. I would not recommend this restaurant nor will I ever go back.
(2)Joseph M.
Good food but especially loved the atmosphere. The two bartenders were very friendly and took care of us all night.
(4)Tom S.
Food was decent. Sandwiches were better than the entrees, which were overpriced for quality. As other reviewers noted, the service here is very lousy. You will better service at a Big Boy.
(3)T.J. S.
My wife and I came to this place on our anniversary trip to Saugatuck. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but it is pretty nice inside with white butcher paper on all the tables. The staff was pretty friendly. No complaints there. The bartender made some suggestions about what whiskey to get in my Old Fashioned, which I much appreciate. I ordered the Seafood Linguine (by the way, this replaced the Seafood Ravioli on the online menu). The pasta was made with squid ink, I believe, because it was jet black instead of the normal pasta color. The dish was excellent, with the only change I could think of being to go with whole pieces of shrimp and lobster rather than the meatballs that combined the two. The texture just didn't work for me. The rest off the dish was pleasantly spicy with good portioning. My wife ordered The Corruption, which was pork loin with vegetables with a pork jowl bacon au jus. It was very good, well seasoned. The complaint about this dish is that it is served in a bowl; it might have been better served by being on a plate with the au jus poured over the top instead of everything in a bowl soaking in the au jus. I tried a couple bites and it was still delicious, though. Everything considered, it was a good place with good food with good employees. I'd recommend it.
(4)Linda C.
Excellent seafood chowder and hamburgers! Great place to eat. Great service. The Cesaer salad was OK, but certainly not what I had expected. My husband liked the crab cakes.
(5)Mary R.
Stopped in for cocktails on the recommendation of a friend who owns restaurants. Juan, the manager, suggested his vodka based Hippie Juice. It was a delicious summer cocktail. Very friendly staff, nice ambiance. Next time we will stay for dinner.
(5)J. Chuck K.
With not many options for a carnivore and vegetarian to agree on, we bypassed the appetizers and got soup. Their hearty and flavorful tomato soup quickly helped us get over the limited apps being offered. We soon found out that the sandwiches were even more delicious than the soup. The "Immigrant" and "Hold the Meat" were extremely flavorful and filling. My one complaint would have to do with the sides. Not wanting kettle chips again (seems to be a reoccurring theme in Michigan), I was only left with curly fries....which were $3 more and not all that good. However, I would still recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area.
(5)Mystery D.
Ordered the crab cakes and was thoroughly disappointed. The crab cakes were a consistency of mayonnaise and a little bit of canned crab which made into a mush of some sort. The cakes were inundated with too much corn relish and greens and was a palate disaster. The fried oysters were nothing comparable to what you would get down South or on the East Coast. This entree came with the oysters sticking out of some type of cornmeal concoction and was thoroughly inedible. One chance and will never return. Expensive food that was not on the level one would expect for the price nor quality.
