If you want a good bar to hang out... Wally is it. Food is wonderful, especially if you crave for some good old fish and chips. Burgers are also savory good. Top that with some cold beer. Relax and unwind. At night, the place becomes wild, as people flock to party. Not exactly what I wanted, but I can tell lots of people are having fun.

This was the second stop on the New Year's excursion and probably should have been the last. Their beer selection was outstanding. I enjoyed several Old Speckled Hen pints from the tap. The crowd was lively and made for a really festive atmosphere. The crowd was very diverse from the flannel-clad nascar dad locals to the well-dressed out-of-towners and many in between. Was here in the summer, too, after a golf outing and it's a nice place to grab a pint or two after the 18th hole. They have sidewalk seating along with an enclosed patio area that is more friendly on those really hot summer days. I remember the fish n chips being pretty good, too.

We were there on a Sat night (this past weekend) and the band Cheap Date was playing. They were incredible. I recently had foot surgery and can barely walk, but they had me up and dancing. Went from playing Lady Gaga to Bruno Mars to Neil Diamond and Poision! This place is the place to be for entertainment in Saugatuck!! Hubby and friends did have perch dinner and chicken strips and thought it was good.

WAY OVERPRICED. I'm not cheap, but this is over the top for this town. Domestic bottle beer's are $4.00 (PBR) Burger and chips are 9.50. Chicken fingers are $9.00 Chips and salsa is 5.00 Around the corner domestic beers are 1.50-2.50. I double checked the price after receiving our bill and the bartender rolled his eyes and said its the owner. The food was good, the service was good.

Pot roast sandwich was great. Bartender Jeff took good care of us even though I had a packer hat on. Nice place to meet locals, who all seem to love living in Sauatuck.

Very rude staff!

Perfect perch!!! Great service, fun easy going setting. My 73 year old father has been eating here since they opened and we all agree the perch is the best on the lake.

Despite the many times I've been to Saugatuck for weekend excursions I've never been to Wally's. I guess we just never imagined it to be anything all that noteworthy and I always knew of it as the place folks went to get wasted so when it came time to grab a bite to eat we'd hit some of our other faves instead. However, last weekend I was in town with my family and we wanted some good bar food for lunch where our littlest member (2.5 year old) could get a burger or something equally low key. I've never been a fan of the Butler or Coral Gables so we decided to give Wally's a shot. I cannot believe I've lived 28 years on this earth without a Wally's burger in my life. I can't believe I've walked by this place so many times without stopping and getting a beer and beef. The countless opportunities I've missed to eat a big juicy patty and fries while surrounded by awesomely loud boisterous Saugatuck folks? Oh it makes me sick to think of the time I've wasted! So yes, in case I wasn't clear--the burger is good. And it's huge! A 1/2 pound or so of beef. Awww yeah. Comes with lots of delicious cheese on top served with crispy hot french fries. A good selection of beers both local and otherwise (Oberon, what what!). Nice patio but also a front sun porch-like room with big windows that look out into the street. Almost as good as sitting outside. If you want a quiet meal, this may not be the place. The energetic crowd comes for burgers, fried perch (tasty!), beers, and to watch the TVs with all the big sports games of the day running. It gets LOUD in there but it was perfect for us because our little toddler dudette could get as rowdy as she wanted. So it's a pretty good spot for kids in the afternoon/early evening. At night this place becomes the town watering hole where folks get even louder and drunker but during the day it's an awesome place to grab a bite and a beer and be surrounded by a lively bunch.

The great thing about Wally's is..it is what it is. It doesn't try to be anything other than a casual bar with good food. It can get quite busy late at night..but it's a bar! With bar food! Don't expect anything else and you will be quite happy. A fun place.

Not sure what others liked here. It was very greasy, even for bar food. The curried chicken salad was gross and soggy. The BLT was greasy and the bread was cheap and tasteless. Fries were overcooked. The mozzarella moons were okay. Need to find aanother restaurant when we visit town. AaaaDisappointed Wally's is rated so high.

What a fun environment. Nachos are amazing, perch is delicious and the atmosphere provides for a great lunch/dinner. Least expensive burger in town too I think! YUMMM

Always have a great time here. Definitely a great place to stop in the summer, the outdoor bar and patio is nice and the only one in downtown Saugatuck. The bartenders are always attentive and super friendly. The rest of the waitstaff is also great! The nachos here are AWESOME! Definitely give those a try.

We had lunch here on a cold day. The fish dip and crab cakes were good. Two of us had the meatloaf and the other two had the sloppy joes and pulled pork. All four dishes were good, hearty and plenty. It was a very relaxing meal. The stuffed animals on the ceiling made it fun and interesting. Good mix of people too.

Had drinks at the bar and after a few decided to grab a bite. The chilli was awsome. Big chunks of meat and spicy. I got a order of fries so I dumped the chilli on it. Very generous drinks and great food. Very friendly atmosphere.

Delicious Lamb sliders and pork belly sliders. A wonderful meal, very reasonably priced.

It's hard to know how many times I have been Wally's. I have been coming to this bar since I was old enough to legally stumble through its hallowed doors. It used to be comprised of what you find on the interior of the establishment, and if you thought that was cramped now imagine it packed on a weekend with a punk or country/rock band jammed inside! In the ensuing years, they have wisely relocated the bar to the opposite side of the interior, added an exterior bar and seating area that is enclosed and heated during the winter and open as a patio area during the glorious summer months. There are many bars and restaurants in the Saugatuck/Douglas area but none can match the character, variety of clientele, and the quality of food that Wally's pumps out on a regular basis. I've seen the tiny kitchen, so I don't know what manner of genius is providing the solid and at times transcendent American staples (try the half rack of ribs!) but I thank my deity of my choice that he or she exists. Now I'm not saying that it will be the best food you've ever had, but the combination of portion, execution, and atmosphere is difficult to match. I can understand that coming in cold to Wally's could be confusing and difficult. A few rules to make things easier. If you want a table you need to find the nearest available waitress or bartender and let them know you want to be seated. Just trying to grab an open table will most times (unless it is totally vacant) won't get you anywhere other than pissed off. If you are in a hurry, you are in the wrong spot. Once they have your name, calm down and grab a cocktail from either of the two bars. BS with your accomplices, people watch, view the local sports teams on the flat screen, and if you are lucky enjoy the live entertainment. When you finally get your table relax, order some food (my wife prefers the perch, I like the ribs but it is all good even the Mexican) and have another drink. Groups of sunburned boaters, attendees of the world renowned film festival, clueless Chicagoans, local news reporters, bachelorette parties, hippies, young and old couples, frat boys, cougars; you never know who is going to stream by. I have heard a bit of criticism about the wait staff. I know them personally and if you are in a hurry and the place is busy, they may be short, but they are all professionals trying to service as best they can. Give them a smile and a compliment, ask them what they would order and you can't go wrong. Wally's is a place that the more you put into it, the more you get out. Take a minute to strike a conversation with the stranger next to you, give the bartender an extra buck tip, sit and listen when a band starts playing that doesn't fit your taste, try a dish that you had written off as previously basic and pedestrian, watch a bit of a Tigers game for a change, peruse the confounding framed pictures in the bathrooms, enjoy yourself and let go a bit. Jackie and her crew of will take care of you if you let them. But it is up to you.

The town of Saugatuck is just about the cutest little river/lake town you could imagine in your life. Every restaurant's outdoor patio had live music going and you can see the lake from anywhere. I literally wanted to go in and eat at every single restaurant I saw. Wally's did not disappoint. With a one sheet two-sided laminate menu that contains half standard bar fare and half (insert preparation of fresh michigan perch), It was pretty easy to pick out dinner: fried perch and sauteed redskin potatoes. The perch was fresh, crisp, tasty and delicious (not too greasy either). The redskins were hot crispy crunchy starchy deliciousness. Add in a couple beers on tap and you've got yourself some serious good eatin. Pretty reasonable prices to boot.

In sum, a traditional dive-bar feel with pretty good food, clean setting (aside from the smokey section), and friendly people. A nice place for lunch: I had a delicious mixed greens salad with cucumbers, chicken and tomatoes (and the chef left off crutons and cheese for me, no complaints!), and my husband had a cup of gumbo soup and a pulled pork sandwich, which he said was "pretty good." Decent Guinness pour as well, which always deserves its own star! I imagine that Wally's would be a fun place to grab a drink after dinner as well, and hang out without any pretense.

Great perch! get the full, not the 1/2 order. Also, nice and friendly customer service. Each time i have been, they go around asking if they can clear your dishes while you eat.

The perch was good but not great, a little dry. Good service, great beer selection.

After a bit of a wait (a good sign!), our large group got a spot out outside next to the sidewalk. A gorgeous night, a starving crowd, a decent menu. I ordered the Asian sirloin salad with a side of redskin potatoes with peppers. I ate every last morsel of the salad and shared the large order of potatoes. VERY satisfying. The rest of the group enjoyed their meals; I did hear a grumble about the wet burrito not being as delish as it looked. Nice atmosphere. Friendly service. Large portions. I'd go back again.

The service was great. I had the best fried perch I've ever had. Great place!
