We ended up here on a Saturday night with our kids, hungry and unwilling to wait an hour plus for other and more expensive places in the vicinity. When we were done, we all agreed that it was definitely for the better that we happened in to the deli. My wife and I both had Baja burritos and our kids had a grilled cheese and a cheese pizza between them. The burrito was so good we almost considered getting them the following night in town as well (and after Scooter's, we wished we had). The grilled cheese and pizza were unexceptional but eaten. The owner was very nice to all of us, and the food was served in a timely manner. We'd definitely go back again.

I had the turkey reuben, my mom had one of their specialty sandwiches with hummus, veggies, feta & cucumber sauce. Delicious! Definitely will come back to try more. Don't expect to find a seat when it's busy - there are a few stools outside and a couple of brightly painted picnic-type benches in front. But you're a block and a half away from Cook Park and a view of the marina. Take your yummy food with you and enjoy Saugatuck.

Ordered a reuben panini, meatball sandwich & one can of soda for a total of $19.75. The bill was calculated on a post-it note & padded by $2.50. There were no side dishes included; just a mediocre sandwich wrapped in paper. I would not eat here again.

Service was quick and the customer service is good . Food was good . Great little spot to grab a quick bite.

Very good food. I had the California Wrap. The food is way above average for a lunch/sandwich shop. I really appreciated that they rushed the hot dog for my son, but they lose a star because they were a little slow in making the sandwich's for us. Connected is an ice cream shop with very rich selections. Two scoops in a cone were huge! The prices were reasonable and worth the stop.

So fresh! Yum, no regrets! Glad I followed the reviews here for lunch with the family. Everyone got something completely different and everyone loved their food and stole from each others' plates. Very good food - very very fresh, creative, well made. A lot of pride and passion for their business shines through. Many various choices (their menu's online). This is a hidden little gem. Nice seating inside and out front, where you can see the dock and river, or you could walk across the street to the park and sit closer. Prices were also very descent (about $7-9 ish, with some items 4-6) despite paying for the fact that you're eating in Saugatuck. Well worth the price, unlike a lot of other Saugatuck restaurants where you may just be paying for the view more than your plate. I tried the burrito since I was 'sandwiched out', turned out even their burrito is delicious and is quite possibly one of my favorites I've ever had - and that's coming from someone who grew up in the Southwest. Will be back!

Wandered over here as a direct result of other yelpers - consistantly high rating over 4 reviewers - gotta try it. We had walked by it before and passed it over as "just ice-cream". But it's so much more. We were happy with the results. Husband and I split the Roast Beef Idaho panini, and a California wrap. Both were great (though personally I favoured the wrap - what a gustatory sensation that was!) Son ordered one of the Chicken based sandwiches - sorry, can't remember which one - and he loved it. Fussy-eater daughter special ordered, and they very graciously accomodated her odd request for just chicken and cheese...no bread, no condiments. She was very excited and happy with the results. ;-) Went back in for ice cream - good quality, as just about everywhere else in the area. One reviewer said they didn't have waffle cone "dishes" - so I assume they mean the little bowls, because they *did* have waffle cones the day we were there. Another thing to try - they have a small selection of fudge - we tried a small amount of the chocolate - so creamy! It was wonderful. Store is clean and tidy. Sandwiches take a little time to prep, so sit down and relax - quality takes time. Proprietor will bring your order out to you when it's ready. With little picnic benches outside, it's an opportunity to people watch for a few minutes on a busy corner. Or, get an air-brush tatoo - by the restaurant owner - they seem to be industrious people! Owner is definately interested in hearing feedback - asked if we were happy with our food. (Yes!) I mentioned that we had found them because of yelp, and not because of signage and he's planning to change signage next year to make the deli side more obvious - so he listens to his customers! Would I recommend: Yes. Would I return: Yes.

Great little ice cream spot in a crowded town/tourist ice cream market. The beneficiary of a central locale and inviting outdoor seating, this casual ice cream business serves up that relaxing vacation cone of cold goodness in spades. I had deer traxxx: a delicious mix of peanutbutter chocolate and fudge in a waffle cone. My lady enjoyed her mint chip as well. This is the stuff lazy summer days are made of. Dig in!

Great place for lunch. Best sandwiches and pasta in town. Perfect example of what small town deli should be.

This place is great for a quick bite to eat while walking around the area. There are several great restaurants in the area, but most are sit downs.
(5)Becky T.
Delicious ice cream - my friends ordered a wrap and a panini and they looked great and they said they were very good.
(5)Kim B.
Very yummy ice cream! The Coffee flavor (can't recall the full name...) is delicious - tastes like an iced coffee with chunks of smooth chocolate in it. The Black Cherry flavor is also good. The child's size cone is a generous amount and very reasonably priced!

Came to this place based on Yelp reviews. Wife and I ordered the Milano from the Mediterranean section of the menu as well a cheese and baby spinach pizza, both of which were delicious. Came back for lunch a couple of days later and ordered the Milano again. We also tried the Jerusalem, which was also good, but I thought the Milano was better. If we're ever back in Saugatuck for the Waterfront Film Festival, we'll definitely be eating here again.

Terrible. Nice people but sandwiches sub par. Cold sauerkraut on a rueben? Small portions too. Meatball sandwich was like something out of a can. Hotdog bun stale. Can't believe it got these high marks above.

Came here as direct result of yelp reviews while driving through. Excellent!! Great full menu of sandwiches, paninis and wraps. The menu has a little something for everything, with a lot of very fresh veggies included in all of the lunch items. A funny observation, sweet corn makes an appearance in many of the wraps, but tastes great. The fudge is also excellent. A word to before stopping, seating is very limited, a few stools inside, a few outside and a few bench seats. It was crowded over the Labor Day weekend so our sandwiches took a bit, but we still were able to find seating. Plan to eat outside.

One of the highlights of our recent trip to Michigan. Definitely a stand-out eatery in Saugatuck. Delicious sandwiches... fresh ingredients, friendly staff that will accomodate almost any request. Outdoor seating with a beautiful view of the water! The California wrap is to die for!
(5)Johnny B.
Awesome little sandwhich shop right near the riverfront of Saugatuck. We got ours to go and had a nice little impromptu picnic in the park along the river. The sandwiches were delicious with great breads and all kinds of homemade ingredients. The staff seemed to be all one family from Eastern Europe and were great. I will definitely be back for a cheap, take-away lunch next time I'm in town.
(5)Santiago A.
Their sandwiches are the most fresh and tasty in town. Excellent for breakfast. The staff will prepare a sandwich to your taste. A great selection of breads, toppings and cheeses.
(5)Shawn T.
Excellent variety in a town full of bland menus. Five stars to both the California wrap and Gardener sandwich. We went back in the evening for ice cream. Five stars to the Turtle Cheesecake ice cream. We were a bit disappointed they did not have waffle cone dishes but that did not deter the creativity of our server to create a substitute for a us.
(5)Sarah K.
Had the California wrap and it was pretty darn tasty. The pesto gave it a unique flavor. It's full of veggies and I felt healthy eating it, despite getting it with the mayo I normally pass on. The service wasn't the best, a couple of teenagers who weren't overly concerned with being personable. Sat outside on the bench which was nice--gave us a good people watching spot.
(4)Kelly M.
This would be a 4.5, but I am giving them the benefit of the doubt. The good: The food. I had a sandwich- the Tuscan I think. WOW. Lots of flavors and textures and they ALL worked! Husband had a pita falafel thing...he really enjoyed it and I did too. The service was fast...we didn't wait too long at all. The shop is clean and quaint. The "meh" I see the potential for service to be bad if they were busy- not the most confident of staff, although very pleasant.
(5)David K.
Delicious. That's really all you can say. This place is small, but as they say, good things come in small packages. Brian and I had sandwiches from here during our trip to the lake and they were some of the best I've ever had. Everything was amazing, the bread was soft, the meat was hearty, and the garnishments were farm fresh. Awesome place and almost enough to make me want to leave a little later tomorrow so I can have lunch here again.

Good food weird service

It was ok. We stopped because we thought it would be cheap. It wasn't really. Lunch was two sandwiches and two bottles of water and came in at about $25. There were a lot of ingredients on our sandwiches, but for the money, I would have expected better bread and meat.
(3)Mike B.
This sandwich shop went over big with the adults, and just ok with the kids. I had an Italian Job and the little lady had The Gardener. Both were above average and made with high quality ingredients. The kids had a corned beaf and hot dog. Those were a little disappointing. The ice cream looked good, but we didn't try it. Overall, a cute shop with good sandwiches.
(4)Nick F.
Amazing!! Simply the best sandwiches in the area! if you haven't tried it yet, why not? You have to go once! They have the freshest ingredients... and simply the best sandwiches not only in Saugatuck, but in Douglas and Holland! Even have some kid friendly sandwiches. We always come here in the morning to get sandwiches for the beach. If you go before 11 am, they won't do hot sandwiches because the grill is not fired up. YOU MUST GO!

I got to admit, despite the stellar reviews, I had moderate expectations for Boardwalk Deli & Ice Cream. I wondered, how good could a tiny boardwalk deli be for a whole meal of food? Well, it can be really, really delightful, Yelpers. Delightful even for dinner! When my family and I enjoyed Saugatuck for the weekend, we struggled trying to find a family friendly (family included a 7 month old and a 2 year old) restaurant for dinner that wasn't super fancy or hosted a wait. And while Boardwalk Deli isn't fancy by any stretch of the imagination, it was just great for what we were looking for. The food was incredibly fresh - a shocker based on how enormous the menu is! While all items are served on disposable plates, expect the food to be extra fresh. The pita and hummus was delicious - tons of warm, soft pita triangles itching to be dunked into flavorful hummus. The fruit bowl was huge and filled to the brim with all sorts of berries and brightness (no filler fruit here). My quesadilla was hearty and while it was stolen by my 2 year old, I did manage to fill up on half of it. I also had a few bite of my husband's Californian sandwich and the flavors were on point and complex! We didn't have ice cream but I feel like we had just about everything else. When it comes to ease and deliciousness, Boardwalk Deli knows what's up in Saugatuck.

Get the "Gone Fishing" tuna sandwich. One of the best sandwiches I have ever had! Good fries, too.

What a tragic sad little place. First off, the guy behind the counter is beyond weird. He wanted to argue with what I chose to order. The food was fast food greasy spoon diner stuff. I've seen some odd places in my time, but this was is just wrong. The music was at a high volume, some idiot hip hop radio station, and seeing as I was the only customer, I asked him to turn it down a bit. He just said "No," and went back to his oxygen-ingesting. Weird!!!! Table was sticky from someone else's jelly. Crowning blow: a short black hair discovered on my plate ... at the end of the meal. Avoid this dump.

This is my second visit and it was honestly the culinary highlight of my trip this weekend. Yes, the food is pricy. Yes, you will have to wait a while. Yes, the place is a little crowded. BUT the food is delicious and the menu is interesting enough to keep me coming back every time I'm in town.

We came in for a quick bite. I wasn't really expecting much, to be honest-I thought since the menu was so big and they serve so late, it would probably be nothing special. And we had such a disappointing quick bite at pumpernickel's the day before that I figured it would be more of the same. I am happy to say I was totally wrong. I ordered a make your own egg white omelet and it was delicious. Everything tastes fresh and delicious. The potatoes that came with it were also good. My boyfriend got an omelet too and his was also tasty. Also, while we were sitting inside, I noticed the manager or owner outside, watering the plants and obviously taking pride in the appearance. The inside is sort of an old school diner but definitely appeared clean. So glad we decided to give this place a try!

Awesome San Diego breakfast sándwich. Good food!!! Clean and friendly staff. Recomen stopping by.
(4)Katrina S.
My boyfriend and I split a cold wrap and a hot burrito. Neither one was anything special. The chicken was super fatty/mushy - like fake/overly processed. I kind of wish we hadn't wasted our time and money on this lunch spot. Also the soda fountain had about 4 out of 6 selections "out of order". Our total for the 2 sandwiches and a drink was $21...definitely better places to eat in the area.
(1)J L.
Food was delicious, a bit heavy on the cheese in the paninis, but the best part was the ice cream hands down. super delicious, but the place was packed, hard to find anywhere to sit outside.
(4)Janet B.
This place is great to stop for lunch! The servers are all friendly and the food is great. Plus there are adorable tables to eat at outside!
(5)Amy P.
Yummy Yummy Yummy! We used yelp to find a close sandwich place where we could just pick up lunch on our way out of town. This place fit the bill. We ordered over the phone and I stopped in a bit later to pick up. I seemed to throw them off by adding a lemonade to my order....it took FOREVER to be made... note to self, stick with bottled water or a can of pop next time. Our sandwiches were awesome! I wish I could remember the names of them, just know they were delish, and BIG. YUM. Would definitely go back next time we are in Saugatuck
(4)Gracie V.
Yuck! $11 for an itty bitty sandwich that doesn't even come with a side or anything and was supposed to be hot and was chilly and the cook couldn't speak English! Never will recommend of go here again.
(1)Tanya L.
We had a 12-inch pizza and a pretty decent-sized fruit salad, both delicious. The hostess was a lovely European lady, very pleasant (a refreshing change in the somewhat snooty Saugatuck). The service was prompt and the pizza piping-hot, very cheesy, with generous toppings. $28 for the pizza, three drinks and the fruit salad--fair, considering that we didn't have to wait to be seated and that pizza probably takes its rightful place among the very best I've tried.
(5)Danielle H.
Really great sandwiches, I would recommend the Mediterranean panini, so good! Massive selection of sandwiches, something to suit everyone!
(4)Kira T.
Grabbed a quick bite to eat for dinner here. Not sure why but they were super slow just making 2 sandwiches and we were the only ones there. Gave it 3 stars based on speed. Since it's a small deli you'd expect it to not take too long. I wouldn't say the staff was overly friendly, but they weren't bad. Food was pretty good.
