Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Always reliable for great Chile rellenos and Tamale's. Some of the menu items are better than others, but this is always my go to Mexican place for mid Michigan.

If you like microwave mexican, then this place is for you. I stopped in while visiting my mother who lives in Sanford. High school white kids manning the front....not sure about the back. Napoleon Dynamite nachos!! It was pretty cheap though, I guess you get what you pay for.

I went to college in Midland and I can honestly say that I miss this place more than I miss college. Enchiladas, corn cake, Mexican cookie. That's really sums up everything. As an added bonus check out the owner and ZZ Top pictures around the restaurant!

Driving home from TC looked on yelp and found this little place and thought why not. I had Mexican taco with shredded beef, chile relleno, and the youngsters had Ramone's taco with shredded beef flautas with shredded beef, wife had veggie fajitas. Food was all good but the service was a little slow and the waitress kept complaining that they were busy which they were slightly but they had three waitresses in a small restaurant so they should be able to handle this on a Wednesday night plus customers are a good thing!!! Service gets 3.5 and food 4.5. Other things to mention they give one bowl of chips and salsa on the house, and they use large glasses but might not refill because no one every offered . Restaurant was small but clean. The bathroom was clean as we'll. Would recommend but not if you're in a hurry.

Ate lunch here at noon on a Tuesday. Food was very good. Definitely try the corn cake and tamales. We did have to wait for a while for our order because the order was misplaced. It is a cute, colorful but tiny place.

I love this place! I lived in Midland briefly for two months and I came here at least 10 times in that time period. A great place to come with a group, they are very accommodating, but also great to get fast service during your lunch break by yourself. I'm obsessed with the chicken flautas, but the garlicky salsa is the absolute best. They need to start bottling it up and selling it. Decor is plain, but it works. Super reasonable prices, awesome staff. Wish I could move Elvira's to Oakland!

This is a cute family place with good food at very low prices. My husband says he'd like more spice, but it's fine for me. Because they're small wait time is usually short.

My favorite Mexican place anywhere. They actually make their own mole sauce but the chicken flaunt as are the best. No alcohol but the food is enough. Very very limited seating, which only makes it better in my book.

In one word, WOW! Great food! Friendly and attentive waitstaff! Maybe could be closer to town but since we live on the west side, not sure I could ask for anything more. Either way this the service and food quality is certainly something we are not used to in Midland. Had the pork Mexican taco, for the amount I had it was great however I offered a bite to my "I hate real Mexican food" 8 year old. Who proceeded to eat it all and then finished his dinner. My wife had the Ramon's taco in chick and beef both were excellent, I would describe the taco shell more puffy than a normal taco, again excellent and will be ordered again. Very reasonable pricing for what you get. Too bad for them we will be coming back over and over!!!!

Some of the best Mexican I've ever had. Service is excellent and the food is fantastic! I highly recommend the burrito.

This little road-side casual restaurant is a fantastic presence in the area. Authentic Mexican food and super friendly staff. It's small--only a handful of tables, but that adds to the homey atmosphere. I had taquitos, which were great. The corn cake is fantastic (like you get at Chevy's, but better, for those who know it), and they have some Jarritos and Horchata. I think it will be a must-go stop for me whenever I am in the area.

When I'm back in my hometown, don't try taking me to Taco Bell or Entre Amigos or any other Mexican food restaurant. The only regret I have regarding Elvira's is that I didn't find out about it earlier in my life. Get the Ramon's tacos. Friendly owner, has a hot sauce/salsa for the mild and the extreme risk takers. Just ask.

We enjoy eating here when we are on the way to our cabin. Small place, good food. I especially like the chili rellenos.

LOVE Elvira's and will drive from Bay City for the food. I always feel welcome and it's so cozy in there. Recommended!

If anyone ever wants Mexican, this is where I take them!

We tried Elvira's tonight. Maybe not great ambiance. Maybe kind of small and run down. OK, no booze, and kind of a limited menu. But the food was first rate, definitely the best I've had in the area. Freshly prepared and obviously not out of a can. The chips were fresh and the hot salsa was excellent. Prices were more than reasonable and the staff was warm and friendly We'll definitely be back. Way, way better than the Mexican place east on Saginaw.

Meh is right.

Off the beaten path and kind of a hole in the wall, but those are pluses in my book. Best Mexican food in Midland, although that isn't saying much. Some of their dishes are outstanding (I think the tacos were fantastic) others were just ok. Great value.

Good food in a tiny little restaurant. I'm no expert on Mexican food but I like it. Location between Midland and Sanford is a bit out of the way.

Great little place off the beaten path. Food is authentic and excellent. Owner is retired Post Office Man. Family owned and run. Try the American Flag entree. I'm hungry again just writing about it:)

This place is what I could call "fantastic given the surroundings." There really isn't anywhere in Mid-Michigan to get terrific Mexican, Elvira's does a decent job though.

Cheap, greasy, tacos. This is how it should be. You will stink like tacos for the rest of the day if you go here, and it's a little bit out of the way, but you should still go.
