Best donuts I've ever had the pleasure of eating! Still haven't found another place in metro Detroit whose donuts taste as good as this place. Owner/staff have always been friendly. Must get there early and bring cash though.

AH-MA-ZING donuts! Little donut shop on Harper that you've probably passed by a million times if you are an east sider. Stopped in for a couple donuts before then opened (which is early!). The owner came out and knocked on the window to let me know they were open :) Friendly service, get there early - and bring cash!

Hard to get in and get donuts because of their hours and when they're out of something, theyre out for the day. If you're up and in the area early morning you have to try them out. You will not be disappointed!

Love their donuts. But if you're a young whipper snapper they treat you like shit. I got there at 9am, and she told me I needed to wake up earlier if I want donuts (there were only a couple left). I laughed and waited for a smile. She was serious... As I was leaving I wanted to take a picture to send to my husband of my favorite donut place back home and the old lady nearly had a heart attack. She insisted I give my last name, wouldn't let me leave, and apparently it's illegal to take a photo in her shop. She insisted on looking though my phone to make sure it was deleted. I was very nice to her and showed her I deleted it (I thought she was kidding at first). She must be senile.... She really lost it! The one donut I was able to get didn't taste so good after that. Violation.... Hey, next time y'all go, take a picture and see what happens!

I would like to give 5 stars because the donuts are amazing. They do not care about their customers at all. They never answer their phone, yesterday I was there to order donuts for today, I arrived at 8, they were closed. This morning I was there at 7 am sharp to get donuts for the meeting, someone was in the back, walked out, drove away without so much as a word, even though there were several of us waiting for them to open. We waited until 7:30, no one ever showed up again. Wondering if they're on vacation or closed forever? A simple sign on the door would be helpful. But they'll never see this because I doubt they have internet access or even know what Yelp is.

Donuts are okay but regardless of whether they are great or just okay to your tastebuds, the staff ruin the entire trip in there. They are rude, short with customers, act as if we are inconveniencing them, unwelcoming, and just downright miserable. Everyone has there bad days so we've given them a couple tries to make sure it wasn't just a bad day. Nope, they are always that way! Maybe if you're miserable making donuts or having customers pay your bills you should kindly remove yourself from the SERVICE industry.

The best donuts EVERRRRR! You're missing out if you've never tried these bad boys. They are fluffy pillows of heaven in your mouth.

Hours do vary I think the best time is early morning since they are only open until donuts sell out and bring cash. The donuts are homemade, delicious and fresh.

Best Cinnamon Bun anywhere!. Fresh, lots of cinnamon, just the right amount of glaze. Not gooey or doughey. PERFECT!!! Take a lesson PANERA, DUNKIN, KRISPY KREME!

This place is simply amazing! You can literally drive past this place and not know it's there, but once you know.....you will be sad it isn't always early morning to be able to stop in! Stale is NEVER a word you will use when devouring these pillows of joy! Nothing sits for more than a few hours! I absolutely love that when they sell out, they close! And boy do these suckers sell out!! Get here early and you will be sweetly rewarded!! These donuts have a nice "crust" on the outside, yet are fluffy and flavorful on the inside! I would have to agree with other reviewers that the apple fritters are one of the best things you will ever put in your mouth. ;-) Sometimes you gotta go old school and get just a plain old regular donut. It's so simple, yet wonderfully delicious! Bring Cash. And get ready to fend off your friends and family when they spot the box!

I don't even want to write this review because that means that all of you Yelpers are going to go as soon as they open and take my favorite CHERRY FLAVORED GLAZED DOUGHNUT. Once they run out- that's it, finito, no more, out of luck. Once the doughnut Gods are done making their doughnut angels, they make no more until the next morn. So, if you are in front of me and take MY doughnut, you can expect a nasty look from a pleasant looking young, blonde woman. It makes my blood boil when these yum yums sell out but I feel that I must put my petty, selfishness aside and tell the world about THE BEST DONUTS ON THE PLANET. I have had doughnuts in Indiana, Illinois, and all over Michigan and I can promise you that you will never have a doughnut like the ones here. Next time you are driving down Harper, don't go to Dunkin Dounuts or Tim Horton's. Go to Variety and feel better about supporting the local economy and some hard working doughnut making angels. Go, support a local business, and pass on the cherry flavored glazed doughnuts because those are mine. .

after reading reviews here and passing by the place a million times I told my self that I am going to try this place, so ...I did. as soon as my mom and I walked in we were greeted by 2 friendly ladies. my mom was commenting how nice it smelled in there and they asked if this was our first visit, "yes it is" we awnserd, one of the ladies brought over a free sample of their glazed donut holes, WOW, simple but Delicious, the glaze was just the right sweetness for my pallet. My mom ordered the apple fritter ( still warm ) and I got some more donut holes and 2 chocolate covered old fashion's loved that they used a older non digital cash register and they had a counter you can sit at. very cool old school. after we paid and said " see you soon" My mom and I were off, my mom LOVED the apple fritter and she offered me a piece and I was blown away. The chocolate covered old fashion was very good and those donut holes yummy. Great service, Great donuts = A+

Unmistakeably the best donuts in MI if not America. Unfortunately their hours are limited and sporadic. If the lights are on - stop in and you will NOT be disappointed! It is hard to imagine any place actually deserving of a perfect 5 out of 5, but in my book if you want donuts, this is the place.

Let me preface this review by saying that I do not enjoy donuts. For the most part, I find them heavy, greasy, and lacking in flavor. Basically, they're gut bombs and I can find more delicious ways to spend my calories. The one outstanding exception to this rule is Variety Donuts. Owned and operated by a mother/daughter team, Variety has the best/most flavorful donuts I've ever tasted. There's very little in appearance - as the previous review notes - it is a small building on Harper that is hardly noticeable. It looks run down, but the inside is clean and the people are friendly. They make donuts fresh daily and once they run out, they close for the day. A simple, yet brilliant way to operate a business. Definitely order the apple fritter. They are quite simply one of the best fritters I've ever had. Lots of cinnamon and apple goodness covered in a delicious glaze. Very substantive, yet moist & cakey inside. Their raspberry filled are awesome as well. And even the coffee is impressive - not strong by any means, but rich enough to stand up next to the donuts. Donuts are $.85 or $1.50 and worth every penny. High quality donuts with friendly family run service - Variety Donuts is a gem of a shop.

This tiny little place has the best donuts in the area.Dunkin Donuts are junk compared to this place.Get there at 7:30 in the morning for warm donuts but you better get there before 9 or 10:00 because the place closes when they sell out their supply.

You have probably driven by this place and not even noticed it. Its just a small building but inside it serves the freshest, most delicious donuts I've ever had! They barely keep the trays full in the glass case because they are continually bringing out FRESH donuts. There is a counter with seating where you can enjoy a couple donuts and hot coffee or you can pick the flavors you want and get them boxed up to go. The staff was friendly, I can see why they have so many regulars every Saturday.

Great old fashion doughnuts. Best kept secret. Get there early, not open all day.

best donuts, ever! all of them are lovingly handmade by a mom and daughter dynamic (and hilarious!) duo who have been running this place forever. they are awesome. my favorite is definitely the apple fritter - wonderfully crunchy on the outside, impossibly soft and light on the inside.. they are like blobs of the lightest donut you will ever find. fried in fresh, hot oil, the dough sort of spreads out and you get these small bits that are attached to the "main donut" that are like little balls of freshly baked yum - again, nice and crunchy on the outside, while delicate, light and fluffy on the inside. soooo good - how do they do that??!? well, they do it all handmade, and they don't skimp on the good stuff. the main part of the fritter has the apple filling in it, and these bits that sort of orbit the main donut are little bonus bits of the regular recipe. i love how they don't put a lot of the apple stuff in the middle, just enough. it's perfect, and really indescribeable! every donut is melt-in-your-mouth-good, you won't go wrong with any selection. they have all kinds, daily - the classics especially. super reasonably priced, they have a nice counter you can sit at to drink your coffee, enjoy the banter and fun of lively customers (and the owners), as well as your purchases. go in early, they sell out by 10am sometimes - once the donuts they have made fresh that morning go, they close! love the old school, no frills vibe of this place, complete with original, old school cash machines / registers and spic-and-span, spotless counters, windows, etc. make sure you stop at the atm before you go - they are cash only, (and you'll want to make sure you have a lot cuz you seriously will want to buy everything in sight!!! : ) get enough for breakfast but for later, too - we always have company, and they are GONE in 60 seconds - delicious even later in the day. love their old school sign out in front, and that the place is hard to find. (once they sell out, the red "HOT" sign goes off, indicating that they're done for the day! : ) love this brilliant concept - what a smart, saavy, and bold business model. love that it is a "mom n' pop" (mom n' daughter) shop - i absolutely LOVE supporting places like this, especially these days. these ladies work hard, are tough and smart - in times of big bank bail-outs and whining politicians, they offer up classic, simple staples, managing to stay afloat with hard work, cleanliness, prompt, courteous service, and a "back-to-basics, no-frills" style reminding us all of the absolute importance of keeping our heads way UP! i wish i could say i've known about this place for years. (wish i'd been supporting them and enjoying their delicous donuts all these years!) wish i could say that i was the one who "discovered" them (my uncle actually did, about a year ago - gotta give him the credit : ) we feel lucky to know about this place, and have been constant customers ever since. what a truly pleasant place to spend some time and what a good feeling to be supporting (and be supported by!) a fantastic, local, truly neighborhood / community spot before rushing off to start another hectic day in the rat race. i always take some home with me to brooklyn - wish they had a sister shop there! stop by and support these ladies - they are very funny in the morning, and very sweet : )
