The food here was great! We got take out. The lady that helped me order on the phone was very friendly and helpful. I had the veggie deluxe with tofu. The tofu was cooked perfectly, very firm and great flavor. The rice cooked perfectly as well. My husband had the orange chicken and my mom had the chicken lo mein, they both loved their meals. The veggie spring rolls are twice the size as most, and the best I've ever had. This is our new favorite take out spot, hands down. If it wasn't for the higher price, we would go here very often.

The egg rolls here are the BEST I have ever had! Normally, I think egg rolls are just kinda...eh. They are usually too greasy and bland. But the egg rolls they serve are waaaaaay beyond delicious! They have so much flavor, they are not greasy at all and they are gigantic! I didn't even need to dip them in sauce! If you haven't been here you should definitely go! YUMMMM!!!! Also, the Thai Tea is delightful! It made my day!

I love this place. Always friendly, fresh, and worth every cent!!! I try to eat here at least once a week. You can tell the food is made with love... And real, quality ingredients!!

Egg rolls are always excellent; highly recommend. My typical go-to dish is the garlic chicken with extra garlic. It's usually pretty good; however, I feel like the quality hasn't been there and the price was REALLY high for a small container of garlic chicken and a large container of rice. It's been a while since I've been there and don't anticipate going back anytime soon.

Best Thai food in Saginaw and BayCity area. Tina is magic in the kitchen; Vegan= No Problem!

Pasong's is amazing!! The Pad Thai is great, the Lo Main is excellent and they have the lightest Orange Chicken we've ever had. We have missed this place for the two years since we moved to Tennessee. We always make a point to stop in when back to visit. Everything is made fresh to order and they are all so friendly! Do yourself a favor and get to Pasong's! You won't regret it. If we could only convince them to move to Tennessee...

This may be the best Asian fusion cafe I have ever eaten at. The service was friendly and impeccable. The servers spoke intelligently about the menu and were able to break down each dish by preparation, flavor, aroma and key ingredient. The local art and ambiance was also cool and refreshing. The food however, was mind blowing. The hot and sour soup was unlike any other in terms of heat and flavor. The Pho was amazingly fragrant with a heat the slowly built as you ate. This will certainly become a routine stop whenever I'm in the area.

Absolutely love love love the spicy brown sauce, need to bottle that & sell that, Ms. Tina. Friendly atmosphere, owner makes you feel welcome & actually gets to know you by name & your personalized order. Garlic chicken is Oh'mazing. Love the vegetable fried rice (no egg for me). The art & community connection makes you want to stop in and visit. Excellent customer service& wait staff is trained very well. Worth every dime & amount of time it takes because they cook to order. So be ready to wait 30 minutes, it's so delicious I have to have some at least twice a month. It's my favorite.

Service was top notch. The owner (who is also the head cook) came out and asked how the food was and asked for suggestions to improve the meals. Me and my girlfriend like spicy food and ordered it at 10 out of 10 rating for spicyness. It was not too spicy. The owner even brought out a special sauce to boost the spicyness more. Overall, the food was very good, the atmosphere was nice, and the service was unbelievable. You can tell there is a lot of heart put into this restaurant. A definite recommend as I am looking forward to which dish to try next.

I don't know if they heard the words of the public but the last couple of times I've gotten carry out from there the portions have been a little larger and is now enough to fill me up for the price. Plus the flavor has improved to the point where it's better than any other Chinese I have had in my lifetime. Thank You for stepping up your game and giving us what we are paying for. Plus I love the idea of a real family run restaurant. When I call and order the daughter lets me know how many orders Mom has so it may take a little bit. =)

I love this place! Tina whips me up Gluten Free spring rolls, both soft and fried as long as I call ahead. So worth it! The sweet and sour sauce is to die for and is a family recipe so you won't be tasting it anywhere else. The atmosphere is charming and the service friendly. Your food takes a little longer then a chain restaurant but thats just all the love going into your made from scratch meal. Totally worth it! I love this place.

I have no idea what Ryan G is talking about in his review (in regard to smells, diapers, etc). I lived away from the area for seven years and the only food-related thing I missed about Saginaw was this restaurant. The food, service, and setting are all excellent. Give it a try.

Love the Pho and love the fact that they can do almost anything gluten free-- they are always so nice and personable! Always delicious!!!

  • Courtney K.

Absolutely love this place! The food is a bit pricey but you can tell it is worth it once you get that first taste. Everything is always very fresh and well prepared. The pho here is definitely my favorite dish. The atmosphere is wonderful, and the waitstaff is absolutely amazing! Also the spring rolls here are the best I've EVER tasted! I love the 1-10 spice scale, it allows everyone to be able to eat any dish no matter their spice tolerance. I love Pasong's and hold this place dear to my heart. Truly one of the best places to eat in Saginaw.

The people are nice and the food is pretty good. Seriously though Pasongs, you need to either seriosly speed up your service or give realistic estimates of how long the food will take to be ready. I have ordered take out on three different occasions and each time the order took at least as twice as long as quoted. I mean they told me 30 min and it took 60. Also, be prepared for the menu to be out of date...even if it is from the time you ordered to when your food is ready. I ordered beef spring rolls and edamame. I paid for them. Then after a 60 min wait, i was told they were out of edamame but would make it up by doubling my spring roll order. When I said in jest that it was OK but i would just have to accept the fact i would get no veggies, the chef told me that i would...they no longer do beef spring rolls, just veggie. The beef is too expensive. Wow.

Favorite place in Saginaw! As a vegan it is extremely difficult to find restaurants around here that cater to my diet. Pasongs can make ANYTHING vegan. If you need to make a change to something, they are happy to oblige for their customers. Tina is amazing... She's a ray of sunshine even on winter days. We love this place! I suggest the tofu salad or the orange tofu.... I love the lo mein, too. It's too hard to decide. Everything is fabulous!

This is a cool place with great food. The servers are very pleasant and helpful as well. My favorites are the egg drop soup and the orange chicken. The egg drop soup is unlike any I've tried before with amazing garlic and onion flavors. The orange chicken with a medium heat is perfect blend of flavor and spice. Give this place a try, you'll be happy.

Pasong's looks like a disaster from the outside, but the inside's actually quite nice. Fortunately, the food's good too. I got the pho and split the vegetarian spring rolls. I don't have a ton of experience with pho, but it's pretty good here, and is definitely a meal in itself... some pho has a lot of broth and not a lot of noodles and/or meat, but the pho here almost has *too* many noodles. I'd also like the beef to be sliced a little thinner, but whatever. Really, I thought the broth was reminiscent of a hot and sour soup. Very tasty. The spring rolls and the dipping sauce served with them are great as well. The egg drop soup here is unlike any I've had anywhere before ... it's as if it has a chicken stock pho-style base, and it's not as corn starchy thick like pretty much any other egg drop soup I've had. It's really clearly made in-house, and I liked it a lot. The fried rice is also good, but different in that it doesn't have a strong soy sauce flavor. Pasong's is a nice little dive I'd definitely recommend if you're in the mood for not specifically Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese, or whatever food -- just Asian food in general. A great Asian fusion sort of restaurant well worth trying... just don't freak out at its dilapidated exterior and walk away.

We stopped by this nice little cafe on our way back home from up north. Service was excellent and food was super delicious! We ordered crab rangoons, fried rice, orange chicken and chicken curry, everything tasted wonderful! I would stop by again on our next trip to the north!

Oh my word! Hidden gem! This was our favorite food stop of our road trip from Minnesota to Lower Michigan. I have never tasted such fresh, light and perfectly made Asian food. I am gluten intolerant and the waitress made sure we knew that almost anything on the menu could be made gluten free! I had the orange chicken. The breading on it was light and crispy. Better than any orange chicken I've ever had- even prior to realizing my gluten intolerance! Next time we will call ahead so I can try the gluten free egg rolls! We will be back!

  • Tim M.

Fantastic! Let's begin with the egg drop soup: deliciously eggy, with strong onion overlay. Usually I don't like strong onion flavor, but this was perfectly blended. The toasted crispy crunchy dipping sticks were excellent. Next came the best spring rolls I have ever eaten, obviously homemade on site with a flakey, toasted crust and fresh, juicy savory ingredients inside. Never having seen beef spring rolls anywhere else, they add a dimension of flavor that shouldn't be missed! (PHOTO NOTE: Spring rolls, NOT egg rolls shown. Yelp phone app won't let me delete that one.) Pad Thai w shrimp: the freshest I've ever had, but I've only tried it from Bangkok Kitchen in Farmington, MI, as of this date. The individual flavors of most of the very fresh vegetables stood out delightfully, despite my coarse palate. Big, plentiful, firm and juicy shrimp! Not being a spice-meister, I requested and received a very mild level of spice that nicely balanced the strong onion flavor. Wonderful! I was here about 3:30 on a Monday afternoon, maybe explaining why I had none of the service timing problems noted by other customers? In any case, the service was fast and friendly and individualized; I felt like I was being specially catered to the entire time. 8~) Coming back as soon as I'm in the area!

My boyfriend and I are staying in Midland for a couple weeks on business (we are from Texas). The choice in food has been awfuuuuuul..sorry Midlanders! We found Pasong's on yelp after trying many other places and being disappointed. I will admit I was really skeptical because A) I'm always a little skeptical of oriental food and B) I'm super picky and am not a meat eater. We came to Pasong's on a Friday night around 7:30...I had looked at the menu before going to make sure there was something meatless I would eat and I saw they had veggie lo mien. When we got there the place was full and we grabbed the last table ( it's really small in there). It took the waitress foreverrrrrr to come to the table and she informed us they had run out of lo mein so I was super bummed!! My boyfriend and I thought about leaving but I'm so glad we stayed!! Once the waitress came to take our orders, she apologized for how long she was taking and brought us a free appetizer (cheese rangoons). We also ordered veggie spring rolls, egg drop soup, and hot and sour soup. The cheese rangoons and spring rolls were SO good! Not just a fried greasy mess like most other places. And we both agreed that the soup was the best we had EVER had! After our meal the chef came around to the table and apologized for how long everything took. She was so nice and clearly takes a lot of pride in what she does. All of the ingredients were so fresh and good and it showed. We went back a few days later and I was able to get the lo mien and it was delicious!

Authentic Asian food. We enjoyed the orange chicken and the red curry. Both were flavorful with fresh vegetables and delicious. We have the hot and sour soup appetizer. You will not be disappointed in the food quality. The owner cook is from Laos. Would definitely recommend. Service was friendly and great.

I'm here every time I'm in Saginaw. Their Vegetable Delight (with Chicken) is a must have after I'm done with work!

Great place to eat. I'm vegan and they were very thoughtful and helping to accommodate me. I had the vegetarian lomein and got tofu added. It was very delicious. The place is also very cute inside and I am already planning my next trip there.

How did I not review this place two years ago or last year. Shame on me. The owner is very sweet and the food is great. I can not remember what I got anymore. WE really enjoyed the spring rolls.

  • Joanna F.

Yelp let me down big time for this time, but then again I should've known better. Got the pho, it was NOT GOOD (that was me being nice). Overly sweet broth due to hoisin and very sour note of sriracha with cabbage and other stuff. I am a big fan of pho but this is by far the worst interpretation of pho that I had ever tasted. Server was nice and tea was good, but that's about all.

Pasong's Cafe is a wonderful Thai restaurant located in Saginaw's old town area. This restaurant is probably my personal favorite in Saginaw. The food is always cooked to perfection, being that it is all freshly made to order, not just cooked and waiting to be served in the back. On top of the consistent food you get an entire experience offered at this retaurant if you are lucky enough for Tina the owner and Chef to come out and ask how your meal was and introduce herself and give you the business background. She is a fabulous kind person who provides an exquisite cafe with great food, great service and an overall great atmosphere. Would recommend this restaurant to even the pickiest of eaters!

The restaurant/service/food was some of the best in the area! Orange Chicken is fantastic, and their crab ragoons are the best I've ever had!

Let me start off by saying the service was excellent! Although I haven't been to Pasong's in about 3 months, the server remember me and what I ordered, impressive! Secondly, the food is amazing! This trip I had the beef pho, YUMMY! I wanted to bottle up the taste and take it back home! The way waitress said it best, it's Asian sole food!

  • Robert V.

The food here is great. Not on the level of places on the west coast or big cities, but it's probably the best in Saginaw. Far from the frozen fare at most other Asian restaurants. It's just everything else that needs a little work. The restuarant was cold! I realize it's a drafty old building but my friend was freezing and it's a 65 degree day. Other than that it's a nice place inside, not crowded and very clean. Very slow on the food coming out. Even if things are freshly breaded and the sauce is whipped up just for my meal it should not take a half hour for our food. Since we only have an hour lunch, I was tempted to just ask the waitress for a box since we needed to get back to work. $26.00 for 2 lunches? This place is very expensive. I'm not looking for a $5 lunch combination bargain that other places offer, but spending over $10 for a lunch entree is a little ridiculous. The portions are also sanely sized, which is a good thing, but you aren't going to be eating leftovers for lunch next day. In short, if they speed things up and lower the prices by a few bucks it'd get 4 stars only. But it makes it a place for special occasions or for when you have time to burn.

  • Mike K.

Pasongs is a hard place to figure out. The food is quite good in comparison to the other offerings in the Old Town Saginaw area and well above par for the region. And the prices are certainly fair. Our family's only issue has always been service. While very friendly, it can be GLACIALLY slow. Plan to wait 10 minutes after seating to be asked for beverages and 20-30 minutes for your food after ordering. Now here's the tough part: getting the bill. On two occasions we just had to put out coats on and start walking out the door after flagging the wait staff 3 times failed to work. A seemingly easy fix that causes us from frequenting the restaurant more often.

Since its my review, I give Pasong's 4 stars but my husband would give it 2-3. The good: I had the phat thai with tofu. The noodles were cooked just right and the sauce had a great flavor. At first I was a little nervous about the amount of cilantro (A LOT) but since I really like cilantro it worked for me. They were also generous with the chopped peanuts which I appreciated because I usually have to ask for extra. The tofu had an odd citrus/salty taste to it which didn't really mesh with the dish but standing alone was tasty. It was a smaller portion than I've seen in other thai restaurants but was still more than I could finish even without an appetizer. The bad: My husband's beef and broccoli was a really small portion and pretty bland. We both asked for our dishes medium spicy and unfortunately neither had any spice. The food service was also very slow. There was one other couple in the restaurant when we arrived, and after ordering it was about 40 minutes before our food came out. Maybe it wouldn't have been so noticeable if we had gotten appetizers, so that's something to consider if you're really hungry upon arrival. The waitress was really friendly and made sure our drinks were always refilled when they hit the half-full mark and the restaurant decor is very warm and relaxing. Definitely the best phat/pad thai I've found in the tri-cities area, so I'll be back at least for some phat thai takeout.

I don't remember exactly what I had, but it had peanuts in it. Whatever it was it was amazingly delicious. The lime squeezed over it made it taste incredible and fresh. The crab cheese also was the best I've ever tasted. The spring rolls were also quite amazing. I highly recommend.

This was one of the first restaurants I visited in Saginaw based on its reputation. I was not disappointed! Great food and service that is unique and great for foodies. The food is prepared fresh and cooked to order. As an added bonus, make sure to meet the Chef that can explain the different flavor profiles and ingredients. A great restaurant!!

Tina can really cook! If you want very yummy, healthy, authentic Laos food this is the place to visit. We stop on our way up north every time - totally worth the stop!!

Great restaurant serving authentic asian dishes. Most popular are the Thai and Vietnamese foods. Environment: Small homey restaurant with pictures from a local artist up for decoration. They're also for sale. Waitress is a friend and will answer inquiries. Tables are well spaced. Food is actually pretty expensive, especially for the quantity. Also, they charge for ordering extra spices and things like that. Check your receipt to make sure they don't charge you for anything extra. Pad thai and pho are favs. Ingredients are all fresh. Probably some of the most authentic asian food in all of saginaw. Family owned and run. Frequent site for medical residency programs to take interviewees.

i LOVE going to pasongs. i live in flint now and still try to make it there. i was just there today with my bf, my dad and my bf's cousin from NYC and even the NYer said it was the best egg drop soup he had ever had. the whole table thanked me for taking them, they all LOVED everything, even Tina and her sis! It's the place to go for great food, good vibes and a full stomach. Notice there was 1 bad review out of five. That guy that insulted the Pasong girls doesnt know what he is talking about. He must not know delicious and fresh, made to order food when he smells it. I'm sure he was a gem to wait on too. Ignore it, girls, you do a fabulous job. Everyone I take there walks out with a new addiction-your cozy little restaurant!

Pasong's Chicken Salad - Super YUM! Phat Thai ~ Also a big winner in my book! Spin that Laotian twist on my meals anyday! Love the family style, the familiarity that the owners have with their patrons, this is truly a place you always feel welcome ~ Even if it's your first time.

This is one of the BEST restaurants in Saginaw! The location in Old town Saginaw is GREAT! The Pasong family takes a great amount of pride in their food and it is evident! The orange chicken and crab cheese are my recommendations to anyone going there for the first time... it is phenominal!!!! Keep it tasty Pasong's!!

  • Bobby C.

The service was super friendly, but our food took 2 1/2 hours to be served!! They gave us appetizers on the house for the delay. I had the Pho, which was mediocre. I would ask for the sprouts on the side next time. I also tried the shrimp lo mein which was average, and the Pad Thai noodles, which was decent. If you're craving Thai, Vietnamese, or Loatian food, I suggest to call and order way in advance, and triple their suggested wait time.

If I had to describe this place in one word, I think it would be 'diaper.' Most of the food tastes and smells like it. For some reason, different people kept taking me to this place saying I should give it another shot. The experience never improved. The waitress, who I believe is the daughter of the owner, is really friendly, but that's about the only good thing I can say about it. For anything on the menu, you pick your level of hotness on a scale of 1-10, which to me is an indication that whatever you are about to order is coming doused in the same heap of sweaty old spices, which it is. I went here with a vegetarian once. He ordered the tofu salad, which looked pretty grim to say the least. Try to avoid this place if you can.

  • Cammy B.

One of our favorite places. Everything is cooked on the spot, so it does take a while to get your food. You get seated right away and your order is taken quickly. They make great cheese ragoons (mother taught the sisters well, as at both places they are great). Coming from me, this is a compliment, as I can make them better than most places. The menu is fairly limited, but everything is great. There is also local art on the walls. You can purchase most of the pieces.

  • Anna M.

I am addicted to this place. I love the atmosphere and more importantly the passion the owners show in preparing your food. My food is always delicious, and the new waiter, I think his name is Josh, is very sweet and professional. I'm very pleased with Pasongs and would recommend it to anyone.

I've lived in Saginaw for 8 years and just recently had an opportunity to eat at this restaurant and wow is it GREAT! I think the HOMEMADE food for the price is phenomenal. I eat there at least once a month now and I refuse to get anyone elses Orange Chicken because their homemade sauce is like no other. The prices reflect the time and effort put into the food. Its not the store ordered frozen variety, the owners purchase local produce to create their meals with. So you pay for what you get, which is healthy portions of healthy CUISINE. It is packed every time I go in there. I highly recommend this Michigan Business.

Pasong's Cafe is a small restaurant and only open a few days a week, Tuesday through Saturday I think. The food is very good and seems authentic. Portion sizes are fair, just enough to fill you up, unlike a lot of Chinese restaurants that give you enough in one dish for four people. If you're looking for a Chinese restaurant in Saginaw that is not a buffet, try Pasong's!

    (4)
  • Andrea A.

The best authentic asian food in Saginaw hands down! The ingredients are fresh, the dishes are made to order and the service is always great! Because everything is made to order it may take a bit longer to get your food, but the wait is totally worth it. Yes, the prices are higher than your typical chinese restaurant, but the food here is far from typical. You will get a portion that WILL fill you up and unlike typical chinese restaurants you won't be hungry an hour later! You have to be a quality person vs. a quantity person to totally love Pasong's. The chinese chicken salad and any of the lomein dishes are to die for...not to mention the egg drop soup, spring rolls and crab ragoons are a perfect start!

I'm pretty surprised at the bad score I have to give Pasong's after reading the other reviews and a recommendation from a coworker. A friend from work and I just returned from lunch and are very unsatisfied. The first thing we saw were the prices. The cheapest lunch size item on the menu is about $7.00. This gets you a small serving of that item and white rice. It's $2.50 more for fried rice, something that is free anywhere else. Then the food came and it was another disappointment. It was a fairly small serving, especially at the price. The food it self was ok at best. I had pepper steak and it was simply a bit of steak, onion, and green peppers fried in a pan. Nothing "asiany" about it, such as the sauce or seasoning. The basic lunch for two of us came to $27. Dinner would easily top $35 for two people. If the place was cheap it would be ok but at these prices I expect something a lot better.

The Chinese chicken salad is incredibly fresh and unique. in the Y EARS I've been going there (over 10? 15?) I have never had even a single shred of lettuce be anything less than perfect light-jade color and crisp. The fresh sliced pea pods add sweetness and a deep crunch. The dressing is made WITHOUT oil but tastes intoxicatingly fresh and marvelous. The chicken has in intriguing coating of lusciousness and nary a bit of gristle. And the salad is so big, I usually take half home for dinner.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
