Possibly the best sushi in Michigan. I travel a lot for work and have eaten sushi all over the US. Hello Sushi continues to be at the top of my list for sushi. With sushi, its the little things that matter. One thing I enjoy about this place is how they handle the fish. They keep all their fish wrapped and in separate containers in the sushi bar. This prevents the sushi from all tasting the same which happens in most all other sushi places. Great rolls and great sashimi. Definitely go!

Staff is rude and will not accommodate any special requests. The sushi is meh. The udon sucks. Save your money and go to Genghi.

There aren't too many restaurants that serve sushi in Saginaw. Hello Sushi probably has the freshest fish and largest portions. Environment: well lit with a good amount of space between tables. The restaurant doesn't smell fishy. The waiters and waitresses are fast. However, once you get your food, they don't check back on you until you're ready to pay. If you need another glass of water, raise your hand or wave one of them down. The restaurant is actually very expensive for the amount of fish you get. Unlike most sushi restaurants where one order of nigiri includes two pieces, Hello sushi charges for each piece! I feel like the best value for your money are the soup noodles. Warms you up and tastes good at the same time. I'm sure it's loaded with MSG. Mmmm. One other thing to worry about is that the restaurant will charge you if you ask for more wasabi. If you order fish, they'll give you a small dallop of the stuff.

It's really not good. And by that, I don't mean by Japan or West Coast standards. I mean by Michigan standards. They have some bizarre stuff on the menu that no self-respecting sushi chef would ever dream of putting on a plate.

Best sushi in the area!!! Staff is great and the sushi is always amazing! I prefer this sushi over genjis. The selection is better and it doesn't take half the day to go through a meal.

I used to eat here all the time when I went to SVSU 10 years ago. I got to try it again for the first time since. Absolute perfection. Easily my favorite sushi bar in Michigan.

I love this restaurant! When I come home from Chicago I always visit hello sushi with my whole family! The food, service and atmosphere are excellent! It is by far one of the top places to eat in Saginaw, unless your version of good seafood is a visit to red lobster.

Easily some of the best sushi I have ever eaten. Absolutely perfect. I travel frequently and look forward to a meal at Hello Sushi when I arrive in Saginaw. The food is fresh and the attention to my crew was greatly appreciated. I felt like part of the family. Kudos.

Fantastic! Meticulously clean, excellent food! Service was fast and friendly. I greatly enjoyed the Chicken Yaki Tori, Tempera Shrimp and the amazing salad dressing. Now near the top of my favorite local restaurant list!

Called ahead to see what time they closed. We were told 10PM but the kitchen closes at 9:30. We got a babysitter and headed over. Showed up at 9:03, doors locked, lights off. Called the restaurant and they said "sorry, kitchen is cleaned up, long weekend." No explanation as to why they were closed early and why they told us 30 min prior that they were open till 10. Incompetent....

Upon looking at the outside of Hello Sushi you would never know that it's so nice inside. The owners are very nice, and so is the staff. One thing to note is English is the staff's second language, but they try really hard to help you out. I've never had an issue. Sushi is good, and their dinner menu is great. They do take out as well.

This is truly a great place to get sushi. The sushi was very good and presentation was perfect. They make it at a sushi bar at the front of the restaurant. The price was very reasonable for the quality. All of the staff was very friendly and genuinely wanted to make my experience perfect. I will go back for sure

Super fresh-tasting sushi, with the fastest service I've ever had. Seriously, I've been eating sushi for over 25 years and I've never had it made and on my table so fast. There were only two other tables in the restaurant at the time, so I'm sure that helped, but our sushi was out in less than 10 minutes. I'd definitely come back here again.

Well, the sushi was "ok" the service was pretty good, but this place is quite overpriced considering the quality and size if their sushi rolls. We had a rainbow roll, a kawa and a spicy tuna roll and all three fit on a plate that was about 4x10 inches along w ginger and wasabi and still had space. $38 for this? I don't think I will be back...

Great sushi. Not cheap but great food and good service. I have always been seated and served promptly. The sushi is absolutely delicious. Atmosphere and decor are OK. If good quality sushi is what you are looking for and you are in Saginaw. This is the place.

Very small rolls with an underlying fish taste. The waitress was very inexperienced. We are from CA and won't come back and won't recommend.
(2)Ring J.
Worst sushi rolls ever. The sushi rolls are way too small, and even the special rolls are tiny and tasting like supermarket made rolls. I would never come again.
(1)Buck J.
Have always had a great meal at this place. If you don't have a reservation for dinner, you can sit at the sushi bar. Fish seems always fresh, and never had a negative experience here.

While my husband and I were being forced to live in the Michigan, we would make the one hour drive to this place at least once a month. I missed going out to a good sushi resturant so we were elated when we found this place. The service was fantastic and the food was very yummy! For the price, it was well worth the one hour drive!

Very reasonably priced. Friendly service. GREAT SUSHI. I have a 'usual' here -- a spicy spider roll and a crispy roll. Every time I order these masterpieces they taste the same. It's good to know that their recipes are uniform and I can expect the same great quality each time I visit. People typically associate good sushi with big cities, I took my friend from Detroit to Hello Sushi and they were really impressed. Great take out service. Take out orders are usually ready for pick up 15 minutes after you call them in. Casual, relaxed atmosphere. If you don't know how to use chop sticks, don't worry. You won't be judged here.

What a great surprise. So glad I have this place a chance. The prices are reasonable and the sushi seemed fresh. I visited during lunch and got one of there sushi combos. The wait staff was extremely friendly and attentive. I will be returning!
(4)Jessica B.
They have very good sushi. It's always hard to find a good local sushi restaurant. Order the bullgokee appetizer! It's amazing! I could have eaten a whole plate of JUST that!!

I lived in Florida before moving to Saginaw and learned to live on sushi. I was surprised to find not just one, but two sushi restaurants in the city. Hello Sushi is the better of the two and has become my standard by which other sushi restaurants are judged. It is weird that a Midwest city has legit sushi, but it really is that good. It is no accident that this place has become an institution in a city that can't seem to support too many restaurants that aren't chains. I'm not a big fan of "sushi" with fish smeared heavily with yum-yum sauce. The new menu does have that if you want it, but my favorite rolls really are the simpler rice-and-fish combos. Me, I love the avocado and tuna pairings in the Boston roll and the Cherry Blossom. The test of any sushi place is their nigiri and Hello Sushi's stands up. Their standards are high, the food is consistent in its quality, and the prices are reasonable. Only sampled the rest of the menu but I have enjoyed their appetizers and the Udon soup. Plenty of teriyaki dishes for the faint of heart. Take out if you want it. The owners are a husband and wife duo and are great people too who treat the regulars well. I ordered a large bottle of cold sake and practically bonded with him. Not sure what I'd do without this restaurant. Hands down, not to be missed and better than the other sushi place down the road.

Well, what can I say but that this place looks alot worse on the outside than it actually is. In fact, that has kept me from going there for years... I finally took a venture in thanks to my sister's advice. This place is quite small on the inside but for starters, the staff (of at least the waitress/s) are very friendly and make you feel at home. I tried several sushi items on the menu, by no means am I a pro, but to me it was pretty good. I did try the jellyfish salad and was quite shocked on how well the dish tasted. For those that do not like sushi they also have a small menu of your average japanese main dishes. I would definately go back.

Every time I come here I am never disappointed. Everything tastes fresh and amazing. It is kind of pricey but the quality of food makes up for that. The service is also excellent and accommodating. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for authentic and delicious sushi.

I still have to give this restaurant some credit for opening a Japanese restaurant in an American food dominated area (yes, even the Chinese food in Saginaw is Americanized). But I can't help but feel cheated when I leave the restaurant. The portions are very small considering what you're paying. The food (including sushi) isn't fantastic. I guess people are willing to pay more when they think the food is "exotic" -- when it actually isn't. On the plus side, the waiters/waitresses are pretty kind.
(2)Todd O.
One word: integrity. When the owner/chef comes to your seat to apologize that he cannot serve you something because it is no longer optimally fresh, you gotta give the service and quality props. After much conversation the chef agreed to prepare an omikaze of sorts using his freshest fare, keeping my tastes in mind. Kindest service and a nice "not to pretentious" feel make this my new favorite in the Saginaw area. Now only if they could get some of that super white tuna being served down the street....

The sushi was not fresh, yet expensive and the wait staff was rude. Almost every sushi joint can have an "off day" but never should a customer be treated poorly. Our meal cost 70.00 for 2 adults and 2 children. I can say with authority that we will never be back. This establishment had some good reviews on yelp but sadly our experience was much different.
(1)Brooke M.
Granted, there is not much of a choice if you're having a craving for sushi in this area; with that being said, it is hands down the best sushi in the tri-cities. The owners and operators of this little gem are so friendly, though there can be a bit of a language barrier at times. I visit this restaurant 2-3 times a month and have never been disappointed. The sushi has always tasted great and the portions have always been very satisfying. Their take-out system is wonderful and all of my orders have always been correct and prompt. The prices are also reasonable. I recommend.

I will admit I was a little scared to visit a sushi place in the middle of Saginaw, but I was pleasantly surprised. The wait staff is very friendly although another person in my party was scolded for ordering the 12 oz Sapporo rather then the 22 oz. can which I thought was interesting or rude. The sushi is ok, but frankly I was expecting far worse it is also on the expensive side. The prices rival the sushi prices in D.C. and the food in MI is usually much less expensive.

Thin pieces of fish. The unagi was very fishy. friendly staff.
(2)Amanda A.
Terrible. The sashimi was meh. The rolls were neither creative nor fresh tasting. The amazing thing was that they charged extraordinarily high prices for such poor fare. To top it off the owner was mean and unfriendly toward me and my small but well-behaved children. Everyone can suffer an off day in the kitchen but to treat a customer poorly is unforgivable.
(1)Jaymie G.
Hands down, the best Sushi in the Tri Cities! Prices are great (compared to other sushi options) and the wait staff is so friendly! I've been going here for years, and see the same staff. Obviously they're doing something right, to keep the turnover so low in such a demanding industry! Keep it up Hello Sushi! Thanks for giving Saginaw a chance!

We've enjoyed Hello Sushi in the past...when we first visited, about four years ago, we were pretty impressed both with the quality of the food and the atmosphere. The last time we stopped in for sushi, though, earlier this year, it seemed somewhat tattier visually, and our meals simply didn't seem as well prepared. Nonetheless, it's one of the few places to find real sushi within 50 miles of our home. I like the miso soup and the spicy calamari appetizer...like the spicy rolls of all kinds, and any of the shellfish/cephalopod offerings except for the scallops (a little too soft and bland)...even if you don't care for sushi, they serve very nice bento boxes of other Japanese dishes. I also just love their tea, which is real Japanese tea.

Good service. Interesting atmosphere. Excellent fish. Knew we were in right spot as we were one of the only non-Asian folks dining.
(4)Tom L.
This place is really great! I'm not a big fan of sushi, but I will eat a California roll every now and then. I just really appreciate the fact that they are bringing a little culture into Saginaw. The owners are really nice and very helpful. Since this is the "introduction" to sushi for most of Saginaw's citizens I think they do a very good job, and I am very glad that Hello Sushi is still in business!
