Chinese Cuisine
The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.
Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.
There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.

A lot of food, but expensive and low quality.

Consistency. My family has been eating here for over 30 years and they have consistently served good food. In all the Chinese restaurants I have eaten in (too many to count) I have not seen some of soups and dishes they serve here.

The owner is very rude, and is a complete snob. Customer service sucks here. If you enjoy their food and love to come often she will harass you about coming back.

I lived in Korea for over six years eating everything in sight and I have never had "JJam bbong" as GREAT as I have had at Forbidden City. I speak Korean, so, I am not sure of the English name on the menu - probably spicy seafood noodle soup! This is one of the best bowls of soup of any kind that I have ever eaten. The broth is rich, the homemade noodles perfect and the meats and veggies all properly represented. I want to try other things on the menu but I get down to Saginaw so seldom that each time I go I want JJam bbong!!! Over the years I have eaten here countless times and the service is always respectful, courteous and polite.

Far from authentic. Hot n Sour soup not good at all, General Tso chicken was soggy and sauce coating poorly done - chicken should be crispy with a tangy lively sauce that is sweet, pungent and packing a bite. Other dishes were also below par for a Chinese restaurant. Only thing good was that they did not use msg. A Panda Express at a mall food court would have more authentic food but it would also be loaded with msg.

I'm from out of state but eat here whenever I get the chance. Lunch yesterday was, as usual, outstanding. Great food, great prices, great service. The decor is a bit typical for a small Asian restaurant, but no better or worse than average, and I'm there for the food and the company anyways.

Best Chinese food in Saginaw. Try the Forbidden City Shrimp, it's the best!

This is just about the BEST Chinese food that I have ever had! I wish it were in Chicago so that I could order there more frequently. -- and we have tons of restaurants to choose from, but nothing comes close to this one. I was visiting and saw the previous Yelp reviews. So, I thought that I would give it a try. And after my second visit this week to this restaurant, I would highly recommend it to anyone. The food is beyond hot and plentiful -- I had given half of my meal to an elderly couple next to me.since I was staying in a local hotel and couldn't finish it all. I would disagree with the previous Yelp review that the soup was lukewarm. I actually burned my tongue on my Spicy & sour soup that was also very tasty It was a different twist on the usual S&S soup since it included meat. But, I liked the addition. The food was so flavorful -- I loved the Curry chicken, and Orange chicken dishes since the chicken wasn't over fried and crispy like some other restaurants. There were actual large chunks of chicken -- not small, processed ones, and the food wasn't over salted. Very nice balance. The crab wontons were also good. I was very pleased with all my selections. Definitely a must try. I didn't see the problem with the interior like the other review -- cracked leather seats, etc... To me, it looked like a clean, restaurant. Maybe a bit outdated in design. But, I really don't care about the scenery if the food is amazing. The wait staff were very attentive, checking on me frequently. And the food arrived in an expedient fashion. I had plenty of time to enjoy my soup without being rushed with my meal that soon followed. I really had no complaints.

Not sure what people ate to have given this place 4 or 5 stars. But the food here per my experience is sub par ...tasteless actually. Had the Hunan beef and not only was it bland, it also didn't look like the Hunan beef I'm used to (Philadelphia PA area Chinese restaurants). The fried rice ...more like minute brown rice with chopped carrots. Definitely not coming back.

For a small town restaurant, this place deserves all 5stars for their unmatched Chinese food. It's better than most fancier and pricier restaurants in NYC! I always come back for their sizzling rice soup and almond chicken. And their moo shu pork or chicken is also another favorite. Their Chinese Korean dishes are also stellar-just ask for the special menu to access these additional options.

Very good food -- some of the best Chinese in the area. Clearly these people know what they're doing. The decor is a bit run-down. Service is usually efficient.

We stumbled in on an unseasonably cold, rainy day after a long day of annual training and in lieu of a canceled fireworks demo, wanting a decent, hot meal before we collapsed in our hotel room in preparation for spending the next day driving back to Indy We were very pleasantly surprised--Forbidden City is at least one cut above the standard greasy, hole-in-the-wall Chinese restaurant I expect to find in a place like Saginaw. The servings were plentiful (one entree would have been more than enough for two of us), the food was flavorful, and it seemed to have been prepared with a lot of care. The moo goo gai pan was made with the narrow, capped whole mushrooms rather than the regular sliced mushrooms like you'd find in the supermarket, and the sauce was light and full of garlic. The soup was obviously homemade and the rangoon filling actually had some crab in it. (Sure it's fake crab, off the coast I don't dock them for that.) There were even dishes of (possibly homemade) sweet and sour sauce and in-house-mixed mustard available, which wins them extra points--the mixed-from-powder mustard is far superior to the premade stuff from a jar or a packet.

This was one of the few restaurants open on New Year's Day for dinner. No time to party. Actually had to work through 8 am that day. 5 aisles of food that you would typically expect to find at a Chinese restaurant (Colonel Cho's chicken, pork, orange chicken, asparagus, fried rice, chow mein, egg soup, etc.). Would be a decent place to eat except for two main problems. 1. The restaurant APPEARS to be very old and worn down. the leather chairs were cracked and actually hurt when sitting on them. The tables were worn down. Silverware scratched up. 2. It smelled like food. Most restaurants do a good job of ventilating and most of the food smelled good. The problem lies in the fact that when all those smells come together, it sometimes smells like garbage. The best thing about this restaurant is the sushi bar. They will make handrolls to order and actually have specialty rolls that come out for special occasions and depending on the day of the week. Problem: the chef doesn't really understand English well. I think I tried to order the Dragon New Years roll. I ended up getting the spicy salmon. Hm. Recommendation: Go to Chen's. For the same price, you'll get better food of higher quality and be in a more tolerable environment.

Some reviewers take marks away for the decor, which seems unwarranted in my opinion. For a local place to eat the decor is fine and restaurant was clean and comfortable. I had pork with black mushrooms and it was excellent. The meat was tender, but with texture and all the food was hot. I would eat here again.

Arrive late an very hungry! The egg rolls I ordered arrived with a cold center and they did not taste good. Gerneral Tso Chicken was good and portions large. Spicy like I like it. I agree with the other comments about the place needing some updates. Terrible dishes and silverware

Questionable interior and cleanliness. Excellent fried rice soup. Slow, but pleasant service.

I love this place. I've always found the service to be excellent. The management is very visibly present, and staff appears to respect their opinion. Everyone seems eager to please the customer. The food is reliably good. I love the crab cheese appetizers! You'll find even their take out to be hot and well-preserved. The seasoning is well done by folks who know the various spice levels well, and get it right every time. The restaurant's ambiance is nice as well. It's a relaxing place with a unique cherry wine. I don't think you'll ever be disappointed here.

Prompt, polite and courteous service. Authentic delicious Korean food. Ask for the Korean menu. My Korean sister-in-law orders us take-out when ever they are in town and we come here for nice family dinners ourselves.

Forbidden city restaurant is the first restaurant I have visited in Saginaw by my friend recommendation. After that I've visited several restaurant in this area, but I think forbidden city restaurant is best choice. Because they have not only Chinese food, but also Korean food. The most important point is that the food is MSG free.

The best Chinese Restaurant in Saginaw if you order the Chinese (don't order American). Food is good, service is quick and friendly. Food portions are huge and always tasty :) This is a very nice restaurant to sit down and have conversations with others, its normally pretty quite and relaxed.

No. This place used to be great - not sure what happened. Got the orange chicken and it was in the strangest tasting white sauce.. We asked our server about it and she didn't even know what it was. Scary!!! The food was awful, the atmosphere matched, and the staff was terribly unprofessional. At least now we know to never come back.

Great service and great food!... They even have a Korean menu! My sister-in-law is Korean and she insists on eating at Forbidden City every time she visits from Chicago, IL.

Ask for the Chinese/authentic menu. Steer away from regular Americanized items and the food is really good. Large portions. They should make the portions smaller and reduce the price. Maybe it was by chance this one time, but next time will be asking for low-sodium. Not sure if its because of the population in this area, but their food seems a lil tab salty. I would suggest that you order entrees and do family style. Stick to the white rice to get full flavor of foods. Also their soup with come out luke-warm. Growing up eating alot of asian soups, I'm use to my soup being scalding hot. The soup we ordered was great tasting and only con would be that the temperature - it seems that it had been sitting for more than a couple of minutes.

I keep forgetting about this little gem. It's been here for 30-40 years...At least that's what our waitress said. Our waitress was great, cheerful, friendly and attentive. She even left a water pitcher at the table for us. I took a friend here for her first time and she really enjoyed it. She ordered crab rangoons, which were huge and fried rice. She had a heaping pile of it! I ordered sesame chicken, which was delicious. It was a little different from most chinese food restaurants because they serve it in a tasty clear sauce with sesame seeds and it's garnished with broccoli. My entree came on a big plate and then she gave me a huge bowl of fried rice. I need to remember to eat here more! The atmosphere was really cozy and quiet.

Best Chinese in Saginaw, and probably the Greater Tri-Cities Area. If you want even more authentic dishes, ask for the Black Menu. You will feel as though you just joined a secret Triad elders clientele. My favorite soups served here and in most Chinese/Asian restaurants in all the land is Forbidden City's "Sizzling Rice Soup." Absolutely amazing and when served listen for the sizzle. Every other place that attempts to serve this dish, has no sizzle. All plop. Mandarin Chicken is a palate popping plate of crushed red pepper, black pepper, and white pepper seasonings. Slightly sweet but complimented by the slow heat. Not too spicy for most but can be made even spicier for those of us that love to live life! Order a Moo Shu dish and the server will gladly prepare you what I like to call a Chinese version of a breakfast taco. This place looks authentic, smells authentic, and tastes authentic. Most of the time it also sounds authentic but sometimes they play soft rock on the PA. WILL ALWAYS COME BACK HERE. Have been coming here for 30 years and happy it's always been phenomenal.

My parents have been going to forbidden city since before i was born. This place is so nostalgic to me its crazy. The sizzling rice soup is the tits. And really anything you order here is great. The pot stickers are killer. This is what i would ask for on my death bed. Forbidden city rules. Service, food, atmosphere. Its all just awesome.

I travel around the country 8 months a year. Seen and tried a lot of restaurants in random locations. This is by far one of the BEST Chinese and Korean restaurant in the country. Affordable prices, unbelievable authentic menu items. Hard to find even in New York, LA or San Francisco. I did not expect to find anything close to authentic in Saginaw and the restaurant had proved me wrong. Great place and the owners and staff are extremely nice people.
