We were on a bus tour leaving from Hi-Tops and grabbed a few drinks and a quick bite to eat on our way. The waitress was friendly and accommodating, especially since she realized we were in a hurry to not miss our bus. The chicken strips and pretzel we got ended up being on the house, since they were apparently prepared before we ordered but were going unclaimed. Bonus for us, since there wasn't time to make anything else (our fault for not arriving earlier). While it's off the beaten path for us, Hi-Tops had lots of safe parking for our bus tour and had the right stuff to get a little food in our bellies and whet our whistles on our fun night out.

I'm a Buckeye in Detroit, the heart of enemy territory, so I am so happy to find a Buckeye Bar!!! Service was a bit off and on but hey, that's not why I'm there. I'm there to root for my Buckeyes and get a few drinks! Pork tacos were good, my friends got the burger and nachos - all decent bar food. Overall, I can't complain - I'm just so happy to have some fellow Scarlet and Grey fans to watch the games with! O-H!!!!

I was introduced to this place recently and I've made it there a couple times in the past month. It's a dive bar...and a good one at that. The pool table is in extremely good shape for a bar table. There's keno, darts, pool, (maybe shuffleboard - I don't remember), a snarky staff and pretty much everything else I look for in a quality dive. The one dish I've tried there - the salami platter - was really good and came with the fluffiest, warm white bread I've had in a while. Good stuff. Worth a try if you're in the area. I've been there late night on Saturdays and it doesn't seem to get ridiculously crowded like other places in the area. So...if you're looking to go out and actually have a conversation over a couple drinks on a Saturday, you can do that here without being ass-to-ass with 8 million other people.

I went there to watch the Tigers game a couple weeks ago with my wife and two friends and the bartender was super snotty and rude. So much so that we left after finding out there was no cook and shed be the one preparing our food. This was Friday July 18th 2014 around 6:30pm.

I stop by after work to play keno and have a couple of beers on occasion. The owners of this place are good people and help create a good place to eat, play keno, watch a sporting event, etc. and chill out. All the current staff there are professional, friendly, and attentive except for 1 of them. If you are unlucky enough to have this one individual wait on you, you may hear chairs being banged around and obscene language. Experiencing slow service and a rude attitude from this one individual forces me to rate this otherwise great place 4 of 5 stars.

I should start this review by stating that I've only ever been to Hi-Tops for lunch during the week. I can't remember exactly why I first visited this bar. My co-workers and I (in nearby Ferndale) are always looking for a new lunch spot that's cheap and close to the office. Maybe I suggested we go there for lunch one day? That was probably it, because my co-diners don't know the area as well as I do. I had heard that they had good burgers. So, I've been a semi-regular for maybe six months. In addition to a list of specials (food and drink) that changes daily, Hi-Tops has a regular weekday lunch special: $1.50 quarter-pound burgers. I can't honestly say if cheese is included, but I know pickles and grilled or raw onions are included in that price. We've had occasional problems in the past with the (mostly stellar) staff's service, but the owners immediately fixed those problems once they heard about them from other bartenders. And consequently, we met the owners, who are really cool. They even gave us a $10 gift certificate for our troubles. The burgers are excellent. I've also tried the half-pound burger, fish & chips (excellent beer batter), grilled cheese, Ham Slammy (their own version of Big Boy's Slim Jim, but with a ton more ham), and their Spicy Sicilian sandwich. The latter has great thick-cut bacon, and lots of ham and cheese. Nine times out of ten, the service has been fantastic, even when it's fairly busy. In addition to a typical bar (fully stocked with most things you'd ever want), they also have several 4-top tables and booths, as well as a large corner booth, jukebox, two video bar game machines, a couple of stand-up arcade games, a table-curling game (I know there's a more proper term for that - can't think of it right now), several TVs usually tunes to sports and news, and a pool table.

I like Hi-Tops because it's a "regulars" bar. It's a great place to go, watch a game and catch-up with friends. One waitress could be a little friendlier and doesn't act like she has a personal issue against you, lol but besides that, it's a great place and they have good bar food.

Nice little neighborhood sports bar. Decent food and good prices. Bartender was friendly & helpful too.

Nice dive bar that makes you feel like you're sitting in 1995 -- and I don't mean that in a bad way. It's dark, right off Woodward with a nice view of the Detroit Zoo water tower. It's relaxing, drinks aren't pricey, has retro decor, food is solid, the people are cool, service is solid, etc. It's not the greatest bar in the world, and it doesn't pretend to be. It does the job as a cool watering hole.

Dive bar...good people...good staff...great for watching Monday Night Football. Don't expect much and you will be OK

It's a local, dark, keno-filled bar. If that's my whole review that's pretty accurate. The details though help save it. It has older decor (80's 90's) but it's all in good condition. Older sports posters on the wall are nice to look at and think back to your childhood. We literally got a bunch of funny looks when we walked in there at 1pm for lunch (groupon). Few people at the bar, most of which who would walk behind the bar to help themselves, and a few booths had people or recently had people in them (still dirty). The food wasn't bad. Good menu with lots of choices. I got the stuffed burger special which was really two McDonald's quality burger patties with a small amount of bacon inbetween. Buns were your cheapo burger buns from the supermarket. Unmemorable and dry. But for 5.95 it's not horrible as it comes with smashed potatoes as well. Smashed potatoes are just that, red bliss potatoes that look like they have been hit with a hammer and coated in cheese. My wife had the coney dogs which were average. Also 5.95 for two plus smashed potatoes. Bass was on special for $3 a pint and the rest of the beers looked to be $3.50/pint. Not bad. The waitress/bartender was very friendly and quick. No complaints on the service. There was a shuffleboard there where it has a long bowling alley type surface with sand and small pucks that you slide. Plenty of TVs so probably a good place to watch a game. No IPA on draft or bottle, big minus for me but maybe you don't care. Also a heated smoking cuddy outside which is nice if you smoke. The area is very industrial and the parking lot is fairly small. With the Groupon it was a decent place to stop for lunch but I don't see myself going back there at night although if someone was really dying to go I wouldn't fight it, at least stop in for a drink or two before moving on.

Shuffleboard is back!! Nice! I'm restoring my 4 stars here. There are some good prices on burgers here as well. I had the turkey burger with fries on this particular visit and both were very good. They also offer beef quarter pounders, 1/3 pounders, and 1/2 pound burgers. All are very inexpensive and go great with one of the 10 or so beers on tap!
