Better than expected. Give it a shot even though it looks rough. Although the interior (and exterior) needs a LOT of work the food was surprisingly decent. It wasn't anything fantastic but it wasn't bad; I'd eat it again. I'm writing this the day after I ate there and my stomach is a little grumpy (as it was last night as well) but sometimes Chinese food just does that...

Let me preface this review by saying "Yes, I DO prefer American-style Chinese". There, I said it...go ahead & throw rocks if you will, it's just my preference. That being said, on with the show... Long, long ago, in another galaxy far away, there was a young woman who lived in a small studio apartment in Roseville, Michigan. This young woman was always looking for the perfect Chinese take-out, and she found it in Golden Wok. Said lady loved her Chinese roast pork, and Golden Wok did not disappoint, with fragrant, sweet & tender medallions of pink-on-the-outside, juicy, porky goodness inside. Fast forward twenty-odd years. Our lady is not-so-young, does not live in Roseville, but loves her roast pork still. An errand found her in the vicinity of her beloved Golden Wok; her heart leaped as she scanned the parking lot, YES! a half-dozen cars at 2 pm is a good sign, no? She entered, she ordered - one of her favorites, Szechuan lo mein. It was with a heavy heart that she discovered the dish did not come with her beloved roast pork, so, with a bit of trepidation she requested that it be added. Happily, all was as she remembered it to be - the wonderful rounds of fresh, roasty pork goodness were atop pan-fried just-this-side-of-heaven Cantonese noodles, the shrimp were tender, large and plentiful, even the chicken was a standout in this dish, adding another dimension of flavor to marry with the pork and shrimp in a wonderful, light, just-spicy-enough sauce, ahhh wok-y perfection! Good to know there are SOME things for which time seems to stand still :)

Here we go... First thing I notice when arriving at the restaurant is a homeless man having a conversation with ( not one ) but 2 invisible people in the back of the parking lot, walked in, the air was very still and was cooler outside then in, i placed my order, I sat and waited, notice on the opposite side of the restaurant was an area that was used at one time for seating but now is used for putting cases of pop and a rice cooker and many boxes, ( something that is a little bit of a turn off,) while waiting I noticed the person that took my order clipping their finger nails in the middle of the seating area,( and no, they did not catch the severed fingernails ) I was in shock, the decor really needed a visit by " Restaurant impossible " got the food and went straight home , the smell was good, the quantity was good, the taste was bland ( thanks Mrs dash for saving my meal ) The gravy for my meal was thin ( thought is was soup ) I probably will not return.

This place is bad, i went here spent 42 dollars on dinner for the family and they wanted to charge 60 cents per dinner to not put onions in it, the reasoning behind this was they would have to make the food fresh, let alone the fact they told me there would be a long wait anyways because of the size of my order... honestly if i spend 42 dollars on dinner i expect it to be fresh... i was willing to wait. Anyways i decided to just pick the onions out, and guess what my dinner was devoid of flavor besides onions. Let alone the fact that i chose a nice looking combo of almond chicken and sweet and sour chicken, except they put it all in 1 carryout tray and the gravy and sweet&sour sauce mixed to a nice mixture that resembled vomit... thanks golden wok ill go somewhere else next time for sure.

I've gone here twice and don't see myself returning. The interior of this restaurant is very dark and dated and only a handful of lights were on. On both occasions I dined in. I was with a friend and we both ordered entrees. I ordered Almond boneless chicken, he ordered sweet and sour chicken. The soup was the best thing I ate there, it was an above average wonton soup i really enjoyed. The tea was okay, nothing out of the ordinary. The almond boneless chicken was served on a platter and had 3 whole chicken breast. The sweet and sour chicken was served on a platter as well. One bowl of white rice was brought out for the both of us. It also included a egg roll, which was absolutely dreadful. It had a real "gamey" taste and I'm nearly certain it was freezer burned. The almond boneless chicken was totally bland, the gravy had no flavor at all. The sweet and sour chicken looked pretty good and my friend said it wasn't bad. After we finished eating I go up to the counter to pay. I hand the woman my American Express card and she informs me they don't take it (even though they have stickers on the front doors saying they do). I paid with visa and we left. I wasn't impressed in the slightest with this restaurant and almost left when I entered because only about 10% of the lights were on inside at 7 pm. I'm guessing they are in financial trouble and usually that means you have to watch out for the food as it could be old. I won't be returning ever. The only bright spot was the soup. The prices are higher than most other Chinese restaurants in the area.

I used to love this place years ago, now the food is just too bland . I feel like they cut back on sauce and flavor to save $. My judgement of Cantonese food starts with the chicken fried rice and the sweet and sour chicken, neither of which had much flavor. If you like bland, maybe it will be ok for you.

Golden Wok does middle of the road Chinese. I don't know if the name of the place bothered me enough to give me a mental block about the food, but I just don't go here as often as other Chinese places. It's pretty cheap. I did enjoy their chicken, but then again, it's pretty hard to mess up chicken. Their lo mein is decent, but I'd stay away from their soups. They are... kind of funky. I will say that they have better table service than some of the other Chinese restaurants in the area that have waitstaff. This is their saving grace, given that they don't exactly have the greatest Chinese. It's not a bad place to find yourself in, but definitely not the best. If you're not a fan of Chinese buffets, then it'd be a good choice. You'll most likely be finding me at the buffet more times than not!

Amazing food! Been going here since I was a child still get carry out. Same owners and chefs for 25 years. Don't dine in. Completely outdated. Interior is horrid. They really need to renovate inside.

Of all the Chinese places I've been to, I always keep coming back here. I've been going here since I was a kid. The staff has always been very pleasant and catering to requests. I mean hell, when we went there we asked for beef with oyster sauce. Literally had it made exact to what we asked. And the flavor is excellent. We had my graduation party catered by them. Their flavors are hands down better than many or the Chinese places I've been to. Glad it's still around and still has great food.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
