High Blood Pressure at Applebee's

Most of the foods served at Applebee's restaurants are high in sodium. Unless you are visiting the restaurant or dining here in the group, there are hardly any options from the main meals if you wish to keep your blood pressure in check. You can rely on a few salad options though. If lucky, you may find low-sodium ribs as well at the restaurant.

Avoid Green Goddess Wedge at Applebee's. Broccoli Cheese Soup and French Onion Soup contain over 1000mg sodium and hence must be skipped as well. Skip all the chicken dishes and seafood at Applebee's except Grilled Chicken Breast and Baked Haddock without sides respectively. Foods to Avoid at Applebee's for High Cholesterol

If you have high cholesterol, then you must avoid eating sandwiches, wraps, and tacos at Applebee's. While the salads and soups sound healthy, you must skip the Fiesta Chopped Salad and Loaded Potato Soup at Applebee's. Have eaten at Apple Annie's for five years now. I love their pancakes! They have spoiled me for all other pancakes. Breakfast specials are great. All food I have had is good. The soups are wonderful and a great selection each day. Bathrooms are not the best. The floor is always sticky and sink area is not kept clean and dry. Fix the cleanliness issues, and I change this to a five star score for the value and food.

First time trying the bakery today and most of the treats were amazing!! The prices are a little high but that's what you get with better quality food. The German chocolate cupcake was soo good. 20 minutes later and I still can taste how amazing it was. But the cannoli I had from here just blah. Nothing special about it, nothing to make it their own. Something I could have got at any bakery. But over all all the other treats I got were really good. I'll be walking here now on for a treat. :)

We tried this place after heaps of praise from my parents and their neighbors. At 20 minutes before closing on New Years Eve, the staff welcomed us in. To make things simple we all ordered the same thing-the "Milton Berle", which is a cheeseburger with bacon. There are various options available with the "deluxe" including choice of toppings, cheese, coleslaw, fries, soup or chili. I chose the coleslaw and fries; others tried the chili and minestrone soup. My burger came as ordered and was an average-tasting, slightly dry 1/3 pound bacon cheeseburger. The coleslaw was sweet (do they put apples in their slaw? Just a hunch!). The fries were decent with a slight creaminess in the center. My girlfriend's minestrone was way too salty for her. I tried it and concurred. Our server was cheerful and very helpful--couldn't have been better. The carpeting is about 10 years past needing a cleaning with some spots looking more like linoleum. I just averted my eyes. For less money if you're jonesing for a bacon cheeseburger and fries, 5 Guys just down the road is far superior in taste, quality and cleanliness.

Came in for a carry out (Mexican burger and drink). Waited 25 minutes for a burger that was supposed to be medium rare and was well done. Ordered it because it was supposed to have avocado slices but those were missing. Food mildly warm. No straw.

This place is "The place" for pancakes. No other place around town has these type of pancakes!!! The best I have ever had, Service is also well staffed.

I would give this place 3.5 stars. They have decent burgers, great breakfast specials, and like most restaurants that cater to seniors weak coffee. We walk up here for dinner once a week. The service is usually pretty good. I like the cinnamon apple bread, it makes pretty great French toast. The prices are good. We went here a few years ago for dinner and didn't come back because the prices were too high and the food wasn't anything special for the price. I think they got full of themselves. About a year or two ago we came back for dinner out of desperation and were really surprised. They usually have something special that is pretty good. The vegetable the other night was brussel sprouts, I was disappointed to hear they were out. You don't go to enough restaurants with brussel sprouts.

Nope. Only good thing is the cheesecake. Service sucks here. They didn't add one of our second meals we asked for. Got home to find one.

First time for lunch today. The Tomato Ravioli soup was good. The Roy Rogers ham and swiss sandwich on pretzel roll surprised me, it was much better than I expected. The sandwich looked a bit sloppy overflowing with ham, and the roll was a bit squishy, but the taste was great! The ham was fresh and had a very flavorful. The broccoli side was very fresh. All around a very tasty meal.

This is my 2nd time ordering food from here, the first time I orderded a Jon Stewart BLT and it was ok. Then today I Ordered the Sinatra Burger and it was very disappointing the meat was just so dry it had no flavor, the bacon that I added to it was the only part of the burger that had flavor to it. The bakery goods are worth eating from there, but this is my last time ordering food.

This is my first review. I used to love Apple Annie's, that is until I had HAIR in my food THREE times! The first time was a curly short dark hair on the top of my fruit salad. Even the waitress gasped! The second was a hair on my omelet. The third time was a long head hair ACROSS MY BLT! I'm gagging now just thinking about it. Three strikes and you're out! Most disgusting restaurant experience ever!

My first visit to Apple Annie's was a spectacular event! I went on the bus with 12 lovely ladies from American House. Always fun conversation & laughter. We were seated all together & service was quick & very efficient. The menu is very extensive & the staff ( Bubbly ,sweet Michele ) was very helpful in guiding me to a healthy choice. I ordered from the low fat Healthy menu. I explained our Dr. Joel Fuhrman Dietary regime & Michelle suggested the grilled chicken with grilled broccoli, artichoke, mushrooms, tomatoes on a grilled Pita with house made low fat ranch drsg on the side. OMG .., it was perfect al dente veggies and it was so big, I brought 1/2 home for my hubby. :) I also got a very fresh salad with 5-6 items on it. Yummy . I tasted my friends cole slaw & loved the sweet drsg & the surpriseing addition of pineapple! I also tested the French toast... It was superb.... With cinnamon & whipped butter. Michelle even suggested the kids menu version of Spaghetti & meatballs . All of the ladies that ordered perfect breakfasts, got FREE coffee. Nice. Half of the ladies got desserts... Hot fudge cream puff, pie, cannolis, cookies, cheese cake, carrot cake, ......I was super tempted- but stayed strong!! Lol Whole apple pies were only $3.99!! The wait staff didn't seem to mind giving us all separate checks. Thank you for a wonderful lunch outing ! Everything was super !

This is one of my favorite casual/family restaurants in Macomb County. They have an extensive menu, including TEN soups daily. I'm a huge soup person, so that wins me over right there. Apple Annie's is family owned and has a very loyal following, so be prepared for a lengthy wait if you're going for a weekend brunch. To be honest, the food is good, but not extraordinary- perfectly acceptable family fare- so you have to decide if the lengthy wait time is worth it for you. Our family usually visits on weeknights when it's not so crowded. The have a rotating menu of themed (such as 50's, Polish, etc.) specials, as well as an exhaustive regular menu. I appreciate that they offer a small selection of healthy entrees, with nutritional info listed on the menu; and I love the fact that they have very low staff turnover, so if you visit more than two or three times, they'll remember and treat you like a regular. My biggest critique of the food is that they put pineapple in their cole slaw, which is both weird and gross, as well as a possible allergy risk for someone who may order it without knowing what it contains. One thing I don't like is that they have Catholic prayer cards on the counter near the cashier. It seems out of place in a restaurant, and can be off-putting if you're not Catholic or Christian yourself. Doesn't make me feel welcome as a diner...but we overlook it because of the extensive menu offerings and the quality/value of the entrees. They also have about 4-5 tv's, which is a huge pet peeve of mine. This is not somewhere you go for a date or a business lunch. This is basic quick-service restaurant that happens to have a stand-out menu. Overall, it's a cute family-friendly place with good food and a quirky, if apparently quite religious atmosphere.

Their deserts are awesome. You have to try their apple pie bites or Baklava. Their soups and food are very good too. They have great breakfast specials. Give it a try you won't be disappointed.

After not being greeted after 10 minutes at the Vintage House when we were the 6th table of the night just two of us and 5 tables of 3 parties or more got seated and got their drink order taken by a waitress we left and came to our usual Friday night dinner spot, especially during lent. Love the food here and the service is always friendly.

Was there earlier today ordered two bottomless bowls of soup, and the pork chop platter, multiple cookies and 2 cup cakes to go. For the most part the soup was good, not great just good. A few that we just did not like and seemed like meat was on the light side in all soups that was supposed to have it. Especially bean and ham. Our waitress didn't not ask us how we wanted the pork chops cooked, they would not accommodate with some grilled and some breaded. The pork chops were over cooked and the mash potatoes were cold! DO NOT EVER BUY THE COOKIES!! 4 different flavors and they were all horrible with the same doughy texture, and taste like flour!! Cookies were by far the worst cookies I have ever had from a bakery!! Bumpy cake cupcake was not good either stick with and entemans bumpy cake. The one ray of light was the red velvet cup cake! That was the only thing that was great!! They used to be homemade everything, take pride in their Reastaraunt. The food was delicious. Now it seems that they, like they rest of corporate America are about the almighty dollar. They sacrificed good people and quality product for more profit. It's a shame and has been down hill the last few times we used to live close and still made the drive to Roseville because the service at Garfield is awful. Last time we visited there we waited to be seated for 15 min in a empty Reastaraunt while two waitresses looked at us as they did some cleaning. We eventually left with out being helped. It's a shame but I think we will find another Reastaraunt to start going to.! To top it off since soup is something they have a lot of might want to look in to adding an option to add a bottomless bowl to an entree so people can sample a larger variety and not pay $9 for mediocre soup, and another $11 for a shotty entree.

Each time that we come to Apple Annie's we really enjoy the visit. The food and service is wonderful. The food and portions are great and the price is quite reasonable. After you are finished eating you want to make sure to stop at the counter and pick out one of their freshly baked goods. Everything from cheesecakes, cookies, breads and cupcakes. Highly recommended!

I am not a fan of this location to be honest and I am a little scared that the Friars in Clinton Township who recently adopted the "Apple Annies" name is going to end up down the crapper now too. Don't let looks deceive you. One might think the place must be really good based on the sheer volume of customers that are packed in there, but 70% of the people there are also 70 years or older. Not to knock old people in any way shape or form, but their taste buds aren't always the sharpest and they like to settle for bland food. While Apple Annies shared some of the same menu items as Friars and both are owned by the same family, they were nowhere near the same. With that being said, the only thing Apple Annies is consistent at is being inconsistent. For example if you are a fan of Lemon Rice soup, let's hope the cook for that day is the one who actually puts lemon in it. Only once has it even been good and tasted like it should. Every other time I have been there and order this soup it came out tasting like butter, rice and chicken with no lemon whatsoever. When I tell the waitstaff and ask for something else they always chime in with the same response, that it just all depends on who made it that day. One of them was so overly honest that she said that one of the chefs just doesn't like lemons so he refuses to put it in the soup. Fine, if that is the case then drop the word "lemon" from the name that night! Their lo-cal pizza option also is far from lo-cal. The mushrooms and onions that they put on it are heavily saturated in butter and oil which will easily double or triple the amount of calories actually in that dish. Be leary of this if you are going there hoping to get something off their "Health Club" menu.

There was a time that I would give this place 4.5 stars. It used to be great. Somehow, it no longer is. Our last disappointed even my noticed the overall difference from previous visits and she normally doesn't care. I'm a soup man and at one time, the soups were all homemade. Like grandma used to make. They might all be made on site but clearly someone in the back is taking short cuts with the product. On an up note, all the soups are usually so hot you have to wait a few minutes. You can get AYCE soup. You can't go wrong with their breakfasts. Served all day. Dinner portions are still large and the place packs them in on Polish and Italian nights. This was one of my favs when I lived on the east side. It isn't any more and no one is more disappointed than me.

Good place, stopped here for dinner. I had a "James Dean" burger which was good. Always super busy but not choas. This place makes there own cup cakes and soups. Very robust menu. A little overwhelming for my liking but still a great stop for some good food. Parking is in the back and the staff was super friendly.

  • Tammy S.

The quality of the food is good. However, the portions are inconsistent. One time you go and get generous portions. The next time they are skimpy. Even when two people order the same dish, they are totally disproportionate. Again, what they give you is good, but someone needs to set the standard for portion and plating.

Apple Annie's is definitely a staple in our house. The reason being that I am a particularly picky eater, and I have trouble deciding what I want to eat. The reason Apple Annie's helps with this is because the menu has a little bit of everything, like most family-style restaurants. They have pasta, great breakfast food, good sandwiches, about 10 different soups every single day, and more! If I say that I cannot decide where I want to go for lunch, chances are we will end up here because there are so many foods to choose from. The best food they have is their breakfast food, in my opinion. If you get their cinnamon french toast with their homemade thick-sliced bread, your day will get better. That's all I'm saying. I will say, Apple Annie's is usually filled with elderly people, so don't be surprised, because they do have senior specials. But the service is quick, the food is good and it is conveniently located. I recommend going here!

WDIV voted Apple Annie's "Best Family Restaurant" in 2010 It used to be one of the go to places for me after church on Sunday. If I thought of one of the restaurants that best represents Roseville it would have to be Apple Annie's. The locals here love it and at busy times there is a line. Pros: Diverse menu, good, huge breakfasts, usually a wide selection of unique and creative soups, bakery with sugar free options, nice plating, very good perch, good fish & chips, menu changes that reflect different themes throughout the year like Polish week, summer salad options, great lenten options. Very comfortable to dine here, the service is nice and the customers are nice. Healthy options that actually taste good. Cons: Like another reviewer noticed the potato pancakes are like pancakes, they are fluffy. I like mine crispy. The fish & chips change consistency in quality, some of the creative specials they have are well presented but the product was so so. The soups are not as awesome as they were a few years ago, I don't know why. Overall with all the options they have it is still a go to place once in awhile, they used to have an Entertainment coupon but not this year. I think Apple Annie's tries to please too many people at once and would improve food quality if they were able to concentrate on less stuff but with this being a family place trying to please in so many ways I can understand and even agree that what they are doing is best for them. If they didn't bring the effort they have to please they would only get a 3.5 for the food but since they bring it and they bring it to so many people they get a 3.75 3.75 Stars (=4 Yelp! Stars)

I am a frequent customer of this restaurant. Although regretfully since having a child I am not able to go as often as I once did. I am a creature of habit and am partial to the burgers. They are by far some of the best I have had. I haven't tried much else. I have had their broccoli cheddar soup which is awesome. If you are looking for a good burger then you need to come her. I am sorry I cant tell you about the other entrees. But they have great burgers. :)

For the family style, lower price meal, this is a nearly can't be beat all the way for me and a must all summer long while I'm home in Michigan. Never had a bad server, even when they are busy. They have some of the b est servers. Food is consistently good - fish & chips are delicious and my #1 favorite. I'm not really a soup fan, and they are known for their soups which my parents love, though my dad says some are "too salty". I love the clam chowder and broccoli cheese. I love the "mini" appetizers - fried pickles are fabulous (and I'm from the south, and these are GOOD) with a little kick as well as good potato skins. Best salads around - I adore the Michigan salad and the summer salads they have too. Also love their burgers and patty melt and the chicken kebob plate. My not so favorite is the almond talapia - ok.. it tastes good, but I have a lap band and can't eat anything microwaved (it changes the texture), and they microwave it. I asked and they broil it in the morning and then heat it up - I learned from here to ask, that lots of restaurants do this and I was shocked! But with that aside, I love the pleasant atmosphere. A favorite with the seniors, which typically means reasonable prices and good food. Sounds good to me!

The food was pretty good for how cheap it was. I was pretty disappointed when it came to the cupcakes. Everyone raves about about their desserts, but their cake was extremely dry. The creamy frosting did not do much to help the dryness of the cake. If you're looking for decent food, this place is pretty good, but I would suggest going somewhere else for dessert.

This is actually a 2.5 review. AA's is a place that could be sooooooooooo much better. The first thing they should do is close for a week and at least replace the nasty nasty carpet. This carpet has seen more action than Whitney Houstons nose. On to the food, I ordered a club sandwich with extra bacon and a side of cole slaw. The side of slaw was good but so small, in one of those paper cups, that i wish i ordered the fries or soup. Sandwich also came with a pickle spear that i swear I should have take a pic of, it was so small. Like a regular spear sliced into 3rd's. I mean jeez louise. My friend ordered breakfast which looked yummy and stated that it was pretty good. Oh well lesson learned.

My family and I have been dining at Apple Annie's since 2001 (12 years). We live in the area so it's convenient and the food is fair. However, in twelve years, I have not seen 1 African-American (or any other minority) server dealing with customers. They are sure to hire a couple Black guys to wash dishes in the back. It's very disheartening to see unfair hiring practices at what is supposed to be a friendly, community diner. There are many articulate and professional minorities who have sought employment at this establishment for server positions. We've waited patiently to see if the tides would turn, to no avail. The next step will involve exposure, so I hope they get it together soon.

This used to be our go to restaurant. We would head there every time we didn't feel like cooking - several times a month. We have noticed over the last year or so that the quality of both the food and the service has been heading steadily down hill. Tonight was the last nail in the coffin. The food was not good at all. When we complained to the manager, she really didn't seem to care. I really wish someone would pay attention to what's going on and return Apple Annie's to what it used to be.

The food and service from my visit today with 9 people was atrocious. The food couldn't even be coordinated to come out on time. Two of the 9 people had no entree for 15 minutes and most everyone else was already done. My food was cold and I had to send it back. One person said her fried fish was not that great but the other person liked theirs. I ordered cabbage rolls and I swear that they tasted like Stouffers' frozen ones. The mashed potatoes were definitely fake from GFS because I also used to buy mine there. Don't know if the food non-coordination was a wait staff issue or a kitchen issue. Although I have been there numerous times before, not sure if I am going back. I have better restaurants closer to my house.

I used to take my grandmother here for breakfast when it was Friar Tuck's. They had really fair prices and really good breakfast specials, and that was enough. However, now that it's Apple Annie's, I can't say the same. I've been to Apple Annie's for lunch and breakfast. Overall I can say that it wasn't what I remember; the prices have risen considerably (think going from spending $10 for two to nearly $20 for two). Now, this isn't a big issue per se, but certainly one of the draws was the food being GOOD and CHEAP. Speaking of good food, I wasn't impressed with the food quality compared to Friar Tuck's. For example: know the difference between "fluffy pancakes" and "rubbery pancakes"? Me too... and Apple Annie's pancakes are more the latter than the former in my experience. I wouldn't recommend the pot roast, potatoes, or cream of mushroom soup either. All of them were overcooked to the point of having trouble discerning between them, save for texture. (and when cream of mushroom soup and beef taste the same, you know you're in trouble!) I gave Apple Annie's three stars because I've had some less than stellar food from them, but yet they almost always are packed; either I'm the unluckiest customer there, or they all know something I don't. Maybe it's the full-size bakery in the front of the restaurant. Maybe there's a dish I haven't tried yet and would love... Give it a shot, but don't keep your hopes TOO high.

Their portions are generous, and the food is pretty good. They have a large selection of soups daily, which is nice for variety. Steer clear of the potato pancakes, and I wasn't much of a fan of Annie's chicken platter. It had a bit too much lemon, the artichokes were tough, but other than that , the flavor was good. They have amazing salads, soups and sandwiches. Their more traditional dishes, like lasagna and chicken parm are very good. The service is exceptional.

About Applebee's

Applebee is an American full-service restaurant brand popularly known for its signature Riblets. Applebee was conceptualized in 1980 by Bill and TJ Palmer in Atlanta, Georgia. At first, the restaurant was named T.J. Applebee's RX for Edibles and Elixirs. After the concept was acquired by W.R. Grace and Company, the restaurant was renamed as Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar. Later the company and the Applebee's concept changed hands with Abe Gustin and John Hamra who started the first Applebee's franchise restaurant in Kansas City.

Later in 2007, IHOP Corp. now known as DineEquity, Inc. acquired Applebee's and began their journey together to make Applebee's the world's largest full-service restaurant chain. Today, Applebee's serves at more than 1,830 locations worldwide. The Applebee's menu ranges from Appetizers and Salads to heavy meals consisting of ribs and steak.
