Now this is a friggin Italian sub! Personally, I think the menu should be limited only to the original, the Italian sub, if you want a turkey and cheese or a philly, get lost. I overheard the owner telling a regular they may have to add wheat bread and bacon to the menu because it's requested so often. Please don't! You can't find classic Italian subs like this down south, don't mess with it. The menu board seems confusing at first but is actually quite simple. All subs are one size and made on either hard (traditional) or soft bread. Just pick the bread (hard please), number of layers of meat/cheese (5/1, 12/3, etc), and loaded (tomato, onion, peppers, dressing) or not and that's it! Get the hot oil too, awesome. Sides are limited to antipasto salad, potato salad, spicy olives, a whole pickle, or chips. Prices are very reasonable, I can't believe another reviewer thought it was expensive. A "Italian" sub at friggin Subway will cost you darn near $8 and I consider anything from there wasted calories. Do yourself a favor and see what a real Italian sub from a place wreaking of local charm is all about.

I ordered the Italian sub. I've read the other reviews and how impressed they were. Well, I was pretty impressed by I wasn't blown away. I thought the sub was pretty good. The meat truly was amazing but my bread was a bit on the hard side. He asked if I wanted it hard (toasted) or soft, I asked for it soft but I kinda think I might as well asked for it hard since it was already hard. Besides the bread, I enjoyed my sub. The chicken noodle soup was tasty. Again, wasn't spectacular but definitely hit the spot! I will genuinely say that it was much better than Subway and such other sub shops. Definitely try this place out. Soup and 5/2 (5 layers meet, 2 layers cheese) sub came to $8. Not to bad of price. You can eat there if you feel like sitting on a bar top stay table with bar stools. I took it to go and just are it in my hotel. Not much room for talking if you're there with a group.

Great sub shop, get there a few times a month for lunch, it's out of the way but worth the drive. Love the sides also.

Looking for a solid local lunch option in the Detroit airport area, but not looking to eat actually in the airport? Vinnie's is a great local sub shop with some tasty subs packed with meats and cheeses to your heart's content. I got the 10/2... ten layers of meats with 2 layers of cheese on a soft roll with a side of potato salad. Yum.

Went here for the first time today after passing by several times on my way to the airport. This place caught my eye because I'm always looking for small, divey looking places that have potential. It is very difficult to see if you don't look close because it is a small business with a tiny sign that reads 'subs' out front. The inside is exactly what you'd expect, small and nostalgic. Like back in the 80s feel sub shops..fresh sliced meats, cheese and sides. I prefer this over any Subway, or main stream place anyday. Only problem I had is every so often I'd find a small hair(?) curly black stringy thing on my meat or cheese..could pass for a fuzz but, the sloppy guy behind the counter had longer hair that may have been it as well?! Not sure? This kind of stuff doesn't bother me as much as it probably should and I would prefer my food without it but, it happens. Maybe the guy should invest in a hair net though, forreal. Other than that, my lunch partner didn't have any issues. And the potato salad side was yummy for only 99c extra. Would definitely go back for my sub craving!

Out of town- working in Romulus for the week. Not many options other than fast food in the area so I decided to check Vinnie's out for lunch. Makes it easier that there are only a few sandwiches to order from their menu- the sandwiches are packed with meat and tasted fresh- bread was good too. Italian Combo was delicious and highly recommend to anyone in the area.

I travel around the country for my job. I always look for good local places to eat at instead of chains, and this is one of the best sub shops I have come across in the entire country! I almost got lazy and ordered in at my hotel, and I am glad that I didn't! I got the 12/3 on a hard roll, and it was huge! High quality, and still great value for the cost. It was $8.35 for 12 layers of meat, 3 layers of cheese. It is a steal for that price. I will definitely be back the next time I am in the area. I use Yelp all of the time, and this is the first time I felt inclined to post a review. Great food, nice people...give it a shot!

This place was amazing. Ordered the steak and cheese on soft bread and I couldn't have been happier. The hot oil dressing was probably the best sandwich condiment I've had in years. The staff are kind of red-necky, but they're very nice. And you cannot beat the price. The value is top notch. Highly recommended.

Simplicity at its best. These subs are amazing. We tried both the hard and soft roll choices. Very quality meats and cheese. It's the clean, classic taste you are looking for in an Italian sub. I'm looking forward to trying the other offerings, especially the chicken noodle soup. You walk in, order and your subs are made in seconds, sometimes before you finish paying. There's a bar of seating with about 10 stools. Just so good. Try it.

I don't think I can properly evaluate this establishment due to the fact that they were out of steak. I requested a steak/chicken and cheese Italian, they had a little steak left. It was pretty tasty, but I would have liked a full steal and cheese.

The place was in a low-income environment, therefore should tell you quite a bit about the place. I had a Italian sausage meal which was over costly and made me feel like I should get checked for worms.

Original location. Same great Italian subs!! I always get the 10/2 (if you don't know what that means you should stop in and find out...it's worth it!), really affordable prices. I got 2, one for dinner and one for the next day's lunch and dummy me forgot it at home. I'm wishing I had remembered to bring to work today!!

I stop here on my way to the airport to grab a sandwich to eat on the plane. This was my first time so I didn't understand how it works. The gentleman behind the counter was very nice and explained the entire menu. It's not very big. I got the cold Italian sub. This was cheese, salami, ham with lettuce, tomatoes and dressing. It was very good! You can choose between hard and soft bread. I got soft. They base prices on how many layers you have on your sandwich. The bread was a bit much for me but overall it was very good. They also have chips, antipasto salad, and a couple more sides I can't remember. I'm going back I want to try one of the hot sandwiches. This place is off a major street. There are bar stools if you want to eat inside, but not room for eating in with a big group. One table and chairs on the porch. It's also some benches outside on a grassy area but not sure if that's the neighbors.

OK so I love sammies. There sammies taste just like the Italian subs I grew up on. High quality lunch meat, great cheese and an outgoing staff. Aftet eating sandwiches that are made by "artists" or at a place that would make me "freak" I had almost forgot what a really good sandwich is. THIS IS IT!

I liked this place so much I started a fan page for them on Facebook. Love me a 5/2 on a hard roll, with the works, and hot oil. For the newbies out there, that's 5 layers of meat with 2 layers of cheese. This is Old School Italian Subs at their finest. On top of that, they are quick making up the subs and VERY friendly and helpful. You just don't often run into people that nice in customer service any more. Only thing which could improve is the hours - this is strictly a lunch place. Do yourself a favor if you are looking for a great lunch sandwich, and go to Vinnie's The second location on Michigan Avenue just west of 275 is excellent as well with the same formula for success.

Just ate there and definitely the best sub around! Very friendly and fast service! I got the 5/1 with everything on it and it was excellent. I'll be a regular customer from now on.

Great subs especially the 5x2 Italian. My only complaint is the price. $7.35 for a sub with a ton of meat seems a bit high considering there are two other subs joints with equal amount of meat and close to half the price.

Nothing fancy, but if you are looking for a good ole fashioned Italian Sub this is it. I have eaten here several times now and it is both good and consistent. The meat/cheese ordering system allows you to have them build up a regular sub to your taste and they also have steak & cheese and other options as well. I don't have any issues with Subway etc. but Vinnie's is better. It is now a frequent stop when I am in the area.

BANG! Are you KIDDING me??? I don't have a lot of time to write this so let me go staccato on this one [since it IS an Italian sub shop]. *Beautiful layers of cured Italian meats and provolone. You order by layers... the bigger the numbers, the thicker your sandwich. Get everything on it and enjoy. I recommend the hard crusty roll instead of the soft roll bread. *Tasty soups *UnbeLIEVable seasoned olives... if you like green olives and pass on these you will label yourself a complete idiot. * Quick service. Only two people working. Seven of us walked in and paid separately... and we were ALL eating in five minutes. *Friendly and appreciative service. *Close the the airport. Do you really want pathetic and overpriced airport food, or do you want to take one of the best sandwiches in the area on the flight with you and watch your cabin-mates drool helplessly?! *Reasonable prices. As a true sandwich shop, this is one of the best experiences of my life.

Awesome sandwiches and a great crew. I'll be back for more when I'm in the area. Oh and fresh cookies too!

The best Italian subs in metro Detroit. I get the 10/2 (10 layers of meat / 2 layers of cheese), I have mine on soft bread with everything on it (lettuce, tomatoes, onions, yellow peppers), but the best part is the home made vinaigrette - its AWESOME! The staff is always friendly and the service is fast. This is a great spot for lunch, so if you're around the airport and looking for something better than McDonald's or Checker burger - check out Vinnie's!
