One thing to say for the overnight layover conversation: Dzikuje! The food's what you expect for a pub in an airport hotel complex. Eh. The beer list is good with some Michigan brews. Any place with Bell's Oberon on draft wins. The conversation is what bumps this place up. Bunch of weary travelers and a great staff.

Only gave a star so I could post my experience - wish there was a no star button! Went here because I had a Restaurant.com gift certificate. I purchased the certificate cause the menu on Restaurant.com had Shepherd's Pie and claimed it was an Irish restaurant/bar. The only thing that remotely made it Irish is that it has "Pub" in its name!! The menu was nothing like what I saw online. It had absolutely no Irish entrees! My husband got the Blackened Salmon special which was okay - salmon good, greasy Mac & cheese and bland mashed potatoes. I ordered Mac & Cheese - menu said "ham, peas, pasta in a cheese sauce". When it came out there was a pile of chopped tomatoes in the center. There were no peas at all and less than 1/4 cup finely chopped ham. Not at all worth the $13 it cost! Nothing was said about not having peas or why there were tomatoes. I tasted it and it was disgusting! It was as if they poured tomato water all over or cooked the pasta in tomato water or made the cheese sauce from tomato water. Not that I don't like tomatoes but there was NOTHING in the description that said tomato! So I wasn't expecting them and if I had know I wouldn't have ordered that dish. When I questioned the waitress about their menu on Restaurant.com and it having Shepherd's pie - she said "That is our menu from over 2 years ago." I suggested she/they might want to change it - she said " We did not add ourselves to Restaurant.com . It just happened." My thoughts - whether you added yourself to Restaurant.com or not, you know you are on that site; I would want my information correct! I would find a way to get my menu updated and accurate. I can honestly say I will never go there again or recommend them to anyone!!

Very disappointed of this place. I have been here a few times now, but this time the renovations at the hotel are taking a toll on the service and the food quality. I won't return until they return to normal ops.

Ok for one night. Wouldn't eat here twice in a stay. Limited menu. Marriott needs to step it up on this restaurant, it's not on par with other full service Mariotts.

It's a full bar with pub food. Fill ya up and keep your thirst quenched. It is a nice bar, well maintained. One of few hotels that has a full bar in its lobby. The food was basic. I had steak and cheese sandwich. The sandwich seemed like it had just been together in my kitchen, grab a wonder bread french loaf, some Kraft cheese slices and then grill some steak slices. It wasn't bland, but it sure wasn't a seasoned delight. The prices were average. My wife's dinner was so so as well and built the same, store bought lettuce, slap on plate with decent dressing. Service was good and location during a snowed in time keep it out of the two stars.

Ha' Penny is a bit half ass if you ask me. They're situated in the Detroit Airport Marriott, and leave a bit to be desired. My biggest gripe? Inconsistency. I decided to peruse the menu while upstairs in my hotel room and found the menu online (it's a pdf on the Marriott site). Score! The Chopped Cobb Salad, with its chicken, bacon, blue cheese, scallions, and avocado sounded like a real winner, especially at $12. The reality: the actual menu was smaller that what I looked at online. Oh, and the salad on the menu in the restaurant did not include chicken or avocado in the description. And it was $10 plus an additional $5 to get the chicken. What? Worse, the measure the portion by the ounce, guaranteeing a portion not worth its cost. Also annoying-- my salad came out unchopped! I had to ask them to take it back to chop it. My server was sweet, but management needs to make some updates, stat!

While there was only one cider choice for a place that mimics an Irish pub, the atmosphere was relaxing and really striking with the warm wood and classy decor. The food was well done and hearty. There aren't a lot of options, but they're solid. Nothing really Irish, of course. Also, timely, attentive service. If you're near the airport, this is a very nice place.

Went back to the pub inside the Marriot. I stopped in about 10 pm and got a few Newcastles and a cheeseburger w/fries. As usual, the food was decent but pricey for a cb and fries ($14). The best part was the bartender. Mariusz was his usual polite and friendly self, taking care of guests, making sure everyone was happy. He's definitely one of the reasons why this place gets so busy in the evenings. I can also tell from the conversations that many of the people are business people and also regulars. But then again, if you aren't a regular Mariusz will treat you like you are.

Was not impressed at all. Sat at the bar. They have a good selection of drinks and service was good. That is why it got two stars. I ordered the Salmon and it came out raw. I am having bad luck with fish at restaurants lately. They took it back and brought out a whole new piece. It was good, but nothing special. My mashed potatoes tasted like mushy instant potatoes, with lots of oil on them. The asparagus was not good at all and I almost did not try it due to its appearance. I took one bite and it did not taste good to me. My co-worker got the steak and loved it. He had the same sides and did not seem to complain, but he did not eat his asparagus either. Never asked him as we were both tired from a long day.

Just went to Ha Penny for dinner with a giftcert bought from restaurants.com . We have been looking for different local restaurants, and even though this one is in a hotel, we thought we'd give it a shot. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. EVERY employee with which we came into contact greeted us. After stepping throught the 'pub' area, we went to the separate dining room which was cozy and intimate, yet not inappropriate for a family. (We had our four year old daughter with us) The menu is simple, but contains a range of food that will suit most people, from Sandwiches, burgers and Salads, to Seafood, Shepherd's Pie and Steak. It appeared that they had a pretty extensive Beer and Wine menu, although I didn't look very closely. The prices were a little higher than a stripmall 'bar and grill', but the ambience was a little nicer and more comfortable as well. (Nice high booths lots of wood, and comfortable lighting) We had the French Onion Soup, and chips and Salsa for starters. The chips and salsa were good, fresh with home made chips, and a nice mild salsa. The Onion soup was amazing! perfectly seasoned, with just enough cheese and bread to enjoy all the delicious broth. We all ended up sharing the soup. I had a Cod sirloin plate with two vegetables (I had Brocolini and Asparagus, but I understand the vegetable selections can vary) This was an extremely low fat dish, but done fresh and delicious, with a tomato, onion and caper salsa. The food was hot and cooked to perfection. The vegetables were steamed well, but still lively in color and slightly crispy (perfect) I was so glad to have an option that wasn't too heavy and wasn't a salad, and I was delightfully surprised at how good it was, and I ate every last morsel. My husband and daughter each had fish and chips. The child sized fish and chips was of significant size, almost, (if not exactly) the same portion sizes as the adult portion. The fish was batter dipped in a light batter, that wasn't greasy or heavy at all. It melted in your mouth, and was served with a seasoned tarter that was amazingly flavorful without being too spicy. The fries were lightly seasoned as well, warm and delicious. Our Server, (I believe her name was Katie) was excellent. She was attentive without being obtrusive; we were never looking for her, yet we were able to enjoy our meal with what seemed to be minimal interruptions. She refilled my tea twice (Their Iced tea was very good) without me having to ask and brought the check and reciept promptly when the time came (a big plus in my eyes with dining with a child) Although this is a Pub, it wasn't as bustling and loud as a normal pub in the dining area, and in fact was quite comfortable. We enjoyed it very much, and will definitely be returning. NOTE that since this is in a hotel and presumably uses the same system as used for room service, your gratuity will be added to your bill.
