In my opinion, still the best dogs in GR, hands down. I loved going to the corner bar as a kid and still do today. Nothing against the other dog places in town, some of which are pretty good, but the corner bar will always be tops in my book!

I have eaten at the Corner Bar at least 10 times and the food has been pretty good. They have gotten better over the last five years with their Michigan beer selection and I am happy with that. Where I find they fall short is their prices...or should I say they go overboard. Anyway, I find it to be overpriced to pay $9 for a burger and chips, and have to pay an up-charge for fries. This ain't my first time to a bar and I can tell you West Michigan bar prices have gotten too high. Also, that Michigan beer, $4.75 for a pint? Uh, no. That is way too expensive. However I may feel, the place is always packed, and it is probably the cheapest bar in Rockford.

This is my families go to restaurant in downtown Rockford. Great staff, good food and service. If you are in town and hungry, they won't disappoint. It's worth the wait because there usually is one.

Definitely my go-to hot dog joint. I have yet to have a mediocre experience here, they are very consistant and the hot dogs are a Rockford staple. Love the food, the atmosphere, and just the general laid back vibe this place gives off. I usually end up here if I am in downtown Rockford. The combo is a good deal, as it comes with fries and cole slaw and a discounted price on a third hot dog option.

Slow service and watered down drinks. The waitress actually snickered after my friend ordered a glass of chardonnay...

We came here to watch a game, which we could but with a little discomfort since most the tables do not face a TV directly. The buffalo chicken dip while delicious was very tiny, two people demolished it in minutes. I had the Chicago dog, the toppings were great though with so many I had to resort to eating it with fork and knife, the dog itself was average. Limited wine menu, probably a good place for beer drinkers!

Great place in a sweet location. Hot dogs are fantastic. Try one with their chili. You can get creative and make any sort of combo. Sandwiches are really good and a great beer selection. Good for beers with friends as well as a casual dinner with the family. I love this place.

One of the best burgers in GR! It's a cozy restaurant with delicious food. if you're craving a burger and a beer- this is your spot. It's close to lots of other places downtown- you're within walking distance to grab a nightcap after dinner.

I've been coming here for 30 years. The past decade I've watched the great Tigers memorabilia come down. The window time go up. The consistency of the sauce go up and down. The prices go up. It's not the same product you couldn't get enough of. I'm only speaking of the dogs. Change is a shame especially when the lack of change for so many years keeps me coming back every once in while hoping that the dogs will be like they used to. There's a faint taste of the good ol days but not enough to get me back up from GR.

Oh Corner Bar. Reading reviews and seeing the amount of folks that try (and complete) the dog challenge on Facebook, I thought it was going to be a slam dunk choice. First visit was only for drinks. Walked in around 6pm to a full dining room and damn near full bar, but was fortunate enough to get two seat at the bar. The barkeep quickly approached to take our order and didn't mind when we asked for a sec to review the drink menu. They offer a SOLID beer menu, was even able to order a few MI brews I hadn't yet tried. The good being served to others customers looked and smelled awesome, but having already had dinner there wasn't going to be any hotdog eating that visit. If my visit after the one visit it would've been 4 or 5 stars for an awesome experience from a beer (and food appearance) and service. The second visit was on a much quieter night. Same bartender, same awesome service. Bad news was the dogs. The thing that allegedly makes The Corner Bar was a huge let down. They were just okay. The dogs didn't have much taste, the buns seemed to big, and the chili sauce was just bland. One positive, the onion rings were damn good. Understanding the dogs and batch of chili sauce may have been bogus on that night, I'm willing to try them again. 5 stars for atmosphere and derive. 2 stars for the dog let down.

The hot dogs are nice. Not the best ive had, but fine. The rest of the menu has really been upgraded, and has some wonderful selections. As far as drinks go, I love the beer sampler. Its a great low cost option.

I'm surprised this place doesn't have a higher overall rating, I loved it. I came in and sat at the bar. They had a great selection of draft beers. I ordered a beer and looked at the menu. The Corner Bar has history- my kind of place. I got the chili dog basket. The hot dogs were good- I prefer mine browned on the grill, but they were exactly as described on the menu and they were yummy. I upgraded to the onions rings. Those things were enormous and extra delicious. They had a nice, thick batter. I could only eat 1 dog and 2 onion rings, so I boxed the rest up to take home and feed to my eternally hungry BF. I had originally been lured inside by the sign advertising a orange cream float made with the Boylan's orange soda and ice cream. I will be back for that- no doubt. I had some homework to do and I needed internet. I was about to head out and go find a coffee shop, but then I asked the bartender if they had wifi. She said yes and that it was cool if I did my homework there. So I had another nice craft beer and took care of some business. My bartender was awesome- she was fast, friendly, and just a really cool person. I liked chatting it up with her. The place had a very comfortable feel in general. When I left, we were getting into dinner time and the place was getting pretty busy. I would definitely come back because I want some fried pickles and that orange float! It's a lot better than doing homework at Starbucks, too.

I've been a big fan of The Corner Bar, ever since I was a kid, but I have to say those times seems to be coming to an end. I usually get the hot dogs, slaw and fires, but last night I tried their "famous" cheeseburger with sautéed onions and mushrooms. I was disappointed. The burger barely came to the edge of the bun that it was served on. It was small and the taste was mediocre. If this was such a great burger I would think that it would equal the River burger I can get down the street at the Rogue River Tavern. Instead of a mouthwatering and satisfying meal, I was left feeling cheated. Additionally, the service for the moderately busy Friday night seemed to be off with our waitress coming by once after we called her and a long delay before we were offered our bill or to see if we wanted anything else. Plus part of our order came out wrong and it delayed getting all of our food. For the price I would expect things to run a little better and the food to be better. I'm sure I'll be back for the hot dogs now and again, but if I'm asked where I want to go for dinner in Rockford, I this won't be the first choice that comes to mind going forward.

Great restaurant with great food. Ate here last Friday night and place was packed. We were able to get a table fairly fast. The only reason I give 3 stars because our waitress wasn't very friendly and didn't come back to the table through the meal but once and that was to bring the food and their were six of us. Didn't see her again till we had to track her down for our check.

Not sure what is going on at the Corner bar, but our last couple visits have been really disappointing. The last 2 servers we've had were not very nice until the end when they were nice in order to increase their tip. The food quality has gone down, and my wife agreed. My turkey pretzel club came out cold and overly greasy. We really love this place so if the owners are reading these reviews - whatever changes you've made recently are not working. The food has to be good for any restaurant to succeed. We are rooting for positive changes to take place as the Corner Bar is a Rockford institution and loved by our family.

Grew up in Rockford, so I've been to the CB a lot over the years. Stopped in today after a several year hiatus for a couple of coney dogs, and I was less than enthused. The buns have changed, and not for the better. CB dogs have always been skinny, and a lot easier to eat. It's what set them apart. Not sure when they changed, but the buns are larger and fluffier, making the dog harder to eat and overwhelming the other elements. It's a different product, and although the dog was ok, it wasn't great.

I've been eating here for about 25 years. Pretty standard hot dogs, but consistent. Their wet burritos are awesome, and both the crinkle fries and curly fries are great. The white chicken chili is also good. My husband likes the burgers as well. I plan on eating here over the next 25 years as well!

The food is delicious but sometimes the waitresses aren't that friendly. This place is great though!

I am giving two simply because they do a vast amount of community service via fund raisers through sales on certain days. They are active in the community they serve, so that is worth something to me. As food goes, it's commercially produced heated in the kitchen fare. Although, once in a while that is fine, you'll likely be wondering where fresh vegetables went. The pretzel turkey club sandwich is fine. I will usually get that. And since I'm at a fry type place, I get the curly fries which are seasoned. The sandwhixh is served with a commercial prepared honey mustard. It's the right idea but it would be sooo much better if even things like this were made on site. The beer ranges from American mass produced to imported and local smaller brews ( sometimes micro brews). Bells is there. And Guinness. I stick to those. An Eclipse is a black and tan made with Bell's Oberon and Guinness. That is preferred. Parking is tricky but keep driving and you'll find something.

This is your basic grill / pub that can be found most anywhere. The only difference is the selection of hot dogs that can be found here. I got the 2 hot dog special (includes fries) and a drink for under $10 so can't complain on the price. The hot dog meat itself could be improved. If they used an all beef vienna frank the dog would improve 100% and make this place a truly great dog venue. If you're in Rockford it is a good place to check out.

Its been years since I've been to the Corner Bar so when we found ourselves in Rockford a few weeks back we decided to check it out. Obviously, the Corner Bar is famous (locally) for its Hotdogs and the "Hotdog Wall of Fame" but I wasn't really in the mood for a Hotdog so I decided to try the Texas Twister burger. This burger is HUGE! (2) 1/2 lbs burger patties, bacon, curly fries, a couple of different cheeses and chipotle BBQ sauce. There should be a wall of fame for eating this thing! We had started with chips and salsa for an app and it wasn't really that good. The salsa was really bland and didn't have any heat at all. The burger made up for it. It was pretty tasty and everybody in our group seemed to be satisfied with their food. The service was just ok. There were a few times my glass sat empty before the waiter came over to ask if I wanted a refill. He was nice enough just not that fast. One of these days I'll be back to eat the 12 dogs and get my name on the wall!

The best hot dogs in the area, sure, but I'll let you in on a little secret. The fried mushrooms are unbelievable!!! Big, succulent, always fresh. And the ranch dipping sauce compliments them very well. But it is not all about hot dogs and mushrooms. A very complete menu with burgers, sandwiches, and other entrees. OK, I really don't know what they taste like because I can't get past the hot dogs and mushrooms (did I mention that they are incredible?). But they always look good. Of course, it is always a family favorite to see who can find the person from the farthest away on the wall of fame. Eat 12 or more hot dogs and you can get up there, too. Go, enjoy. But go hungry. You'll walk out stuffed. Or is that just me?

    (4)
  • Jadine R.

The hot dogs were just alright. Nothing entirely special about them which did disappoint me after hearing good things about this place. They were thin and tasted average. However I will say that the onion rings were awesome.

Bar food, enough said.... Friendly staff. Didn't try their hotdogs but will next time I'm there... Can't imagine their better than yesterdog though... Overall a good place with friendly waitstaff

Had lunch here yesterday that was pretty awful. Their chicken sandwich on a pretzel roll was very underwhelming - squishy bun containing low quality chicken lunchmeat - very small and boring for $7 or 8. I got it because it stated on their menu it was a favorite or some such marketing language. The curly fries were good, though.

Local brews, hotdogs, and chili - One of the oldest restaurants in the area, and the oldest in Rockford (just a short drive north of Grand Rapids). The Corner Bar has a great happy hour, and the walls are decorated with awards to their winners of the yearly hot dog eating contest. Big round tables are good for groups, and booths are cozy. Try the chicken chili - it's pretty darn delish.

Great place for families, especially when Tuesday nights they have kids eat free! I'm not a big hot dog fan, but there are many other entrees to choose from. It can get busy, so might be a wait at times.

  • Toby K.

The Corner Bar is famous for its hotdogs, but in reality, the hotdogs are not that great. They taste like regular hotdogs you'd find at any minor league ball park, except they are priced higher. Actually the place was quite pricey.

As a vegetarian ~ I love that the Corner now has veggie dogs! They have a good selection of local beers and a passion for helping their town and the small businesses there.

Oh, I feel bad only giving two stars to such a cute looking establishment. While visiting Rockford on a warm, winter day, my family and I took advantage of using the walk up window at The Corner Bar to try out their famous hot dogs. Also ordered fries and cole slaw. The fries were good, but everything was mediocre at best. The hot dogs were limp and the chili sauce not very exciting. My husband ate one with sauerkraut and said it was good. It was fun to try a new restaurant, but I won't be going out of my way to return. Maybe some of their other menu items are better. Just not the dogs.

Having lived near Rockford for some time, the Corner Bar is one of those institutionalized locations that is not only a local favorite, but also a part of a family tradition. Through the years, popularity has wavered in favor of places like Pronto Pup on the lakeshore, or Yesterdog in East Grand Rapids... But personally, the Corner Bar will always have the better food, service, and atmosphere. Part of the fun, at least for me, has always been going in to check out their Hot Dog Hall of Fame. With over 5,000 names on the wall, you never really see the same name twice, but it is always entertaining watching it grow. The main thing I always tell people is that it is, at the very least, worth a try.

it's a bar with bar food. nothing special about the hot dogs or food.. Hot dog = cheap meats, cheap sauce.. meh... at least use Kogel hot dogs...

  • Jennifer T.

Typical American bar menu ..nothing very creative or mind-blowing. Tortilla chips weren't very good--store bought and I like homemade ones but I suppose most people wouldn't complain since this is not primarily a Mexican restaurant. Husband enjoyed the turkey pretzel club; homemade chips were adequate. I had big house salad w chicken...also adequate but boring. Don't come here expecting culinary genius. However, this place has been packed both times I've visited and the chili dog challenge is a good gimmick. For beer drinkers there are many options. Something must keep people coming back but I think this will be my last time.

Family friendly restaurant meets bar. Good size menu but nothing new or exciting, except pretzel rolls, they are always delicious! I've had three things, all were good but nothing fancy, perfect place to cure a hangover! - Turkey Pretzel Club, Smoked turkey breast, bacon and Swiss cheese, served on a warm pretzel roll with our house-made Honey-Dijon sauce. 8.69 - California Reuben, Smoked turkey breast, Swiss cheese, house-made slaw and thousand Island dressing on grilled marble rye. 7.99 - Nacho Supreme, A heaping plate of our house-made tortilla chips, piled high with melted jack and cheddar cheeses, seasoned ground beef, refried beans, tomatoes, black olives, jalapenos and onions. Served with fresh authentic Pico de Gallo and real sour cream. 8.99 Half order. 6.99

One of my favorite home town places to go and eat! Good hotdogs and Michigan Beer on tap. And with the option of a wall up window how can you go wrong lol. Lots of Ram Pride here...

  • Alex M.

These are my favorite hot dogs of all time. I always get the chili cheese dogs and am rarely disappointed. The last time I went, I arrived as they were opening and the dogs were sub-par compared to my usual visits. I think the buns hadn't steamed long enough as they were just opening. Usually, the hot steaming bun, paired with the freshly grated cheddar cheese and ever-so good chili on top of a classic dog is a Michigan staple that you have to try at least once. Detroit Coneys are great, but life isn't complete without being a Corner Bar patron.

    (5)
  • Justin B.

they are famous for their hotdogs, I don't really know why, they aren't all that great. the girlfriend and i go there and each get a chilli cheese dog basket and it usually comes to around $30 for hot dogs and fries :/ Not a huge fan of their chilli sauce either, that could use some work. I love their curly fries though

Sad that the service has been so poor lately.

  • Wendy J.

Went to the Corner Bar last night for chili dogs which are usually the best. The dogs were terrible!!! There was barely a teaspoon of chili on the dogs with extremely light toppings + missing cheese. Seriously! How can you get a chili dog order wrong? Our service was extremely slow. Our server walked by our table three times before stopping to take our drink order. The restaurant was busy but not too busy that the servers had time to walk the room. This experience was so poor that we don't plan to return anytime soon. Our next chili dog excursion will likely be to Mad Dogz in Comstock Park or Johnny B's on Wealthy.

I was told this was the place to go for a great hot dog while visiting Michigan. I was not disappointed. I had the bacon cheddar dog with crinkle cut fries. It was excellent. Crispy bacon, shredded cheddar and the right amount of their famous chili. This will become a regular stop when I'm In Michigan.

  • Greg C.

It used to be a great neighborhood restaurant and pub but the service has been steadily heading downhill and the food isn't good enough to overcome that. Still have to go there for the dogs but it was such a great place to go, fortunately there are plenty of other places to go in Rockford

    (3)
  • Russ A.

Really consistent place to get good chili dogs in the north end of grand rapids. Not fancy. Just good. Surprising how many places can't do a good chili dog. The Corner Bar is not one of them! Service inside or at their walk-up take out window is always friendly and efficient. One of these days I'll have to try something else on the menu. Other items look good but I am in a happy rut!

Me and a few friends stopped here not knowing that they closed on Sunday's at 9, we were just stopping through. When we sat down the waiter came up and said "what do you want the kitchen closes in 60 seconds" I found that extremely rude especially the way he said it. After we apologized for not knowing their closing time he assured us it was ok. He got our drinks and food, which we only got something small not wanting to be a hassle. My friend got two hot dogs and a beer, I only got the chips and salsa and a water. After we finished eating the waiter actually commented on the fact that I had not finished the whole basket of chips, which I don't think is right at all. I felt rushed and didn't want to be a burden so I ate as fast as I could. I think it was very rude the way he acted. On the other hand I understand we were late coming in, but still. Customer service should always be top priority and he could've gone about it a lot more politely.

This was my second visit to The Corner Bar because I enjoyed it a couple of years ago when visiting this area. For starters we had the fried cheese cubes, which are great for a group, and the fried pickle chips, which I prefer over spears. I'm not much for hot dogs, so I haven't tried one but the burgers are solid with a side of chips, but several at our table got fries and onion rings, which were tasty. I didn't taste it, but the turkey on pretzel looked delicious! I didn't pay attention to all the beers available, but it looked like there was a nice variety of local craft beers in addition to domestic bottles. If you're planning to go with a group on a busy evening, you might call ahead to check the wait time. The hostess offered to put our name in so when we arrived we didn't wait long - nice touch of customer service!

The food was great but the service was below par. She seemed annoyed by every one around her and that kept us from having a good experience.

If you need to have a chili dog this is the spot for you. Good draft list as well. My buddy Derek got his name on the wall for eating a ton of hot dogs. I'm not into fried food, but its a great spot to take the friends from out of town. Good customer service as well.

Visited there today after a several year absence. We were terribly disappointed in the food. "Famous"hot dogs had zero flavor and were cold. It will be a long time before we return if at all. French fries were also cold. Service was okay.

Eat lots of great hotdogs here. Chicken strip salad is also tasty. Local beers on tap. Love this place.

I moved away from GR several years ago, but while at Ice Fest this weekend, hubby and I decided to get lunch from the walk-up window at Corner Bar. I ordered the burrito dogs and hubby got the regular chili dog. We ordered fries for the tot and also got an order of doughnuts. Our dogs were AMAZING as usual -- I would have liked a bit more sauce on mine, but then I would have likely complained that their was too much sauce ;-) Fries were great and the deep fried triangles of dough were awesome. The icing was more like filling rather than icing and it was heavenly. Can't wait to go back!

  • Fawn G.

The Corner Bar has been a staple in my families Michigan trips since I was kid. We've come on good times, we've come after funerals, we just always come when ever we're in Michigan. However, I don't remember it being so darn cluttered in there. Maybe it's because I've gotten older, it's not so smokey, or what, but I got stepped on by several waitresses, peoples jackets be falling all over the floor, I just seriously got some anxiety dining here recently. Their dogs are amazing. Their 'shrooms are perfect. Their cole slaw, I wish I could take buckets home to Texas... So we'll be back Corner Bar and I promise to sit at a table not a booth next time.

    (4)
  • Amy M.

The fried pickles get 5 stars. Best I have had around here for sure! Hot dogs are decent, fries are just average. The turkey sandwich on the pretzel roll is pretty good. The wet burrito is not good. At all. The sauce was like ketchup. I ate about 2 bites and couldn't force in anymore. Tuesday nights kids eat free & they have a guy making balloon animals - great place to go with the family on a Tuesday!
