Poorly prepared food. Ordered the calamari as an appetizer. Received about 2 tablespoons at most. Many bits of fried batter without calamari. Ordered a rare top sirloin. It arrived medium. Flavor was good. Service was VERY slow. Took us 2 hours to order and pay. 15 minute wait for the check only to discover the check was incorrect. Took another 15 to get the server's attention and another 10 to get a correction. There are many other better places in Rockford..

This small humble place is one I have passed a million times and never thought once; Well... Why not? Today I learned all the reasons I should! Finally on a whim I invited some friends to come and have a drink and a bite here, I was flabbergasted. After a trip through the entrance which felt like a speak easy hallway complete with jazz, I ordered in order; a Black and Tan, the chowder, and the filet medium rare. Dessert was given to me as a late birthday treat and I accompanied the carrot cake with mango tea. My Black and Tan was perfectly separated well made and the mixed drinks around the table were all praised. My seafood chowder was lovely, creamy but not too heavy, with enough seafood that every bite was a yummy surprise. Everything I wanted except the potatoes, but why stretch it with all that good seafood all ready filling the space? My starchy desires were quickly satisfied when my filet was presented to me. Sitting atop a roasted portabella as it's throne and a bed of potatoes my eyes were well fed, and so was I! My filet? Meat butter. The portabella? Grilled roasted goodness. The potatoes? Sweet, buttery, creamy and perfect. I ate it so fast You would have thought it was my last meal on earth. Then full and ready to roll to the door our server looks at me mischievously and says; "Carrot cake?" I didn't pay for it as it was my birthday but by god if they have it again you know I am buying it! Creamy, dreamy, soft and perfect. The walnuts were melting in my mouth and the frosting wasn't overbearingly sweet. It had crunchy carrot and coconut bits on top and a caramel drizzle on the bottom, and if a single person tried to take it away from me they were dead meat! To wash it down I got the mango tea which; WASN'T overly sweet or nastily artificial! It was the best damn mango tea I have had since I made my own in Texas and really made my day. This might just be my new spot!

I really enjoyed the Cleopatra Cobb salad and the bruschetta. Attention to detail in the marinated chicken, and evenly spread out toppings made it more than just a salad. Homemade bread for the bruschetta and great presentation. My dinning partner had the seafood chowder and raved about it also. Would recommend for lunch time, gets a little pricey around dinner.

I love the food it gives me the choice if I want just the chicken lettuce wraps ( which is an appetizer ) for something light or if I want the great Black and Blue salad or the wonderful stuffed Whitefish. It gives me the opportunity to eat some healthy choices, have a nice glass of wine and listen to live music. We have had our Dental office and my store Christmas parties there....and always been pleased (nice atmosphere for reasonable prices). I like the friendliness of both the bartenders and the wait staff.

Great location, atmosphere and staff. The restaurant and bar are decorated nicely, very comfortable and welcoming atmosphere especially with the live music on Saturday nights. The staff was very prompt and friendly and we where seated quickly to a nice table on the heated patio. Our server was also prompt, very freindly and seemed knowledgable about the menu and beer and wine list. I would give the atmosphere and staff a 5 star rating. However, when the food was delivered is when the rating began to go down. Food is certainly not terrible, but is not special either. My French Onion soup for instance was so salty that I could not eat more than a couple of spoon fulls and then sent it back. My mife had the Seafood Chowder which was good, but not great. As for our entrees we could say the same, decent bordering on good but nothing special. Overall: If they could raise the level of their food offerings to match their atmosphere and staff they could really have something here. Until they do however it is not some place I would avoid, but I will not be in any rush to return either.

Grill 111 is one of the nicer downtown Rockford restaurants we frequent. Service is always good, not great though. They could step that up a bit which is why a 3 star rating and not a five. Regarding the food itself the Marsala is outstanding and the Filet is one of the best around (3 consecutive times having the filet and great every time.). I would recommend the Gorgonzola added to the steak. The calamari and stuffed mushrooms are also great appetizers. Skip the salads, nothing to rave about. I've had better at the D&W salad bar! Charging for pop refills and a bread basket is ridiculous with the prices they charge in my opinion which also brought the rating down. Also not a big deal but for a fine dining restaurant they use paper napkins. Atmosphere is great and upstairs is my favorite spot in the place.

While I do think they are a bit over priced the food here is really good! I have the panko crusted salmon sandwich with saffron aioli nearly every time I go because I just can't get enough of it. Definitely worth a visit.

umm... dont get a refill on your pop... They charge for each one and wont tell you.. Bring a family of 5 and get a few refills at $2.00 each and then look at your bill.. Food isn't worth the price or the pop. Of course, if you want to pay for their building and decor, go there and enjoy~

Grill One Eleven has the ability to reach a crowd that doesn't want to pay the price of going to Red's, but is looking for a step up from the Corner Bar in their dining experience. We've been to Grill One Eleven multiple times because it is close to where we live. I have to say that I've not been super impressed. I took my wife there last Friday evening. There is not a lot of seating, but they make it work between the tables down and upstairs. We were seated upstairs and I noticed right away that the table was still dirty and needed to be wiped down. When we received our silverware, both were dirty and had to be replaced. Service was ok, but nothing outstanding. There are a lot of young people working there and I'm under the impression that they don't have good management overseeing the operations of this restaurant. We both ordered the Salmon off the "small plate" menu, which came over roasted sweet potatoes and veggies. The Salmon and the veggies were very good, something that I would order again. The waitress told me that they have a full dinner portion of that item that is a 7oz Salmon instead of the 4oz Salmon we ordered. I asked her where that was on the menu because I'd been looking for Salmon on the dinner entries and she explained that it wasn't on the menu, you just have to request it. While I enjoyed that meal, I would've ordered the full dinner entrée if they had it listed on the menu that way. I was mildly disappointed that I missed out on the larger Salmon. Anyway, that to me is how this restaurant runs, just slightly off from where they need to be. I think they have the potential to be a great restaurant in Rockford, but again I'll go back to my suspicion of weak management and lack of attention to details.

Gave this place another try and what once had great food is now awful. Thoroughly disappointed! Out server was lovely and I felt bad for her. Spinach dip was like soup, the side salad had brown lettuce that I would have thrown out days ago. Then the main course served frozen vegetables. To top it all off as we were leaving my wife slipped on grease that was on the floor outside the kitchen and hurt her knee. It is fairly safe to say we will not be returning which is a real shame as we live down the street. Stick to Reds on the River!!

I normally like the food here but tonight the salt content was overwhelming. The service has always been sub-par with high school students as servers that haven't been taught some of the basics of finer dining service. You can plan on being there for a long time with a dry glass and no chance of getting that steak sauce or your steak cooked better because they never check with the table after food is delivered. With a little server training and oversight they could easily turn this around.

Our hostess asks if we would like to sit outside. No way! It is too darned hot. Despite my protestations, she leads us upstairs and opens the balcony door to see if we like it. I refuse to go out. I said no once, and I have no intention of sitting outdoors in that stifling heat. Finally she gives us a table near the back. To begin, we order White Cheddar Fondue and Marinated Stuffed Portabella. The fondue is pretty mild, served in a rye bread bowl with pita points and herb bread for dipping. I expected some veggies to dip into the cheese as well, but the bread is nice. I'm not a huge fan of the stuffed mushroom, though the roasted pepper and craisin tastes fantastic, especially when the whole thing is drenched in pepper coulis. The portabella just exudes a dry kind of liver taste, which I don't find appealing but everyone else seems to love. Before the appetizers, I ordered a sparkling water. Once we are done with the apps, I wonder where the water is. Our waitress completely forgot! No worries; her protege (trainee) retrieves the bottle of Voss for me, then departs. I pour some into my glass of ice and peer suspiciously at it. There are no bubbles! I examine the bottle and discover she had brought me still water instead of sparkling. Thankfully another waitress notices my vain attempts to get our server's attention, and she takes care of me. As it so happens, I also hear that other waitress as she tells the table next to us about the night's dinner special--Ahi Tuna. It sounds pretty good but I don't catch all the details. Why hasn't our server related the special to us yet? Strange, but here she is, ready to take our dinner order. "Have you decided on dinner yet?" she asks. I ask what the special might be. She pulls out her notes and relates, "It's a cajun salmon steak seared..." What? Salmon? I tell her that I overheard another server telling other customers that it's tuna. "Oh. Well, maybe. I wasn't here last night. Let me go check." Between the sparkling water mishap and relating the wrong special (what would have happened if we ordered that?), I'm losing faith here. Eventually, we get the right information. I know Juliet would love the tuna and, sure enough, she orders it immediately. (My nibble off her plate later tells me she made the right choice; the tuna is amazingly prepared.) For my course, I opt for the Roasted Pesto Pasta. It's vegetarian but I can use a break from meat. The portion is a bit small for $15 but I'm not super-duper hungry so I let it pass. Unfortunately, the pasta itself tastes like...nothing! There are some nice Kalamata olives and feta cheese, but the basil, roasted garlic, and shallots don't do much to elevate the pasta itself. It's very weird. I keep diving in with my fork, hoping I'll discover a flavor profile that never really materializes. I have no interest in dessert at the end, but Juliet wants the carrot cake. I'm glad she orders it! Looking nothing like traditional carrot cake, it's more like an oversized Little Debbie treat, topped with cream cheese icing and strips of roasted sweet potatoes. Wow. In just a couple bites, it nearly erases all the other errors of the evening. When we settle the bill, our server asks, "Ok, time to fess up. Which of you had three glasses of wine?" Turns out, none of us had three glasses. And just like that, the sweet memory of the carrot cake dissolves. I won't be back to Grill One Eleven.

Our group of 10 (plus 2 young kids) came here last night for my mother-in-law's birthday. She has come here before and has loved the pizzas they had that night, which was a pub crawl special event. To start off we ordered the Mediterranean pizza, cheese fondue and the Three Happiness Spring Rolls. The pizza was really good. I kinda wished I had ordered it as my entree. I personally didn't care for the cheese fondue, it was too rich and comprised fully of cheese and no extra flavors. The spring rolls were decent, the peanut sauce that it comes with was a hit, but 1 order was definitely not enough. So after hearing her rave about the pizzas, I was excited to order one. One problem, they do not have pizzas on the menu. I guess for the pub crawl event they have them brought over from next door. Lame. I ended up ordering the Roasted Chicken Wellington. This had a lot of flavor, but didn't seem to have much chicken in it. The filling was mainly composed of the mozzarella and bits of veggies. The risotto that came with it was weird. I tried to describe it as sour, but that doesn't hit the mark. I am a huge fan of risotto, so when that went into my mouth I was disappointed. My husband and his uncle, both got the Fish n' Chips. Both said the same thing, it tasted weird. According to the waiter, the cooks might have used a different beer or seasonings that night. Both men did not enjoy their meal. Other than those weird dishes, the rest of the group seemed satisfied. The birthday girl said her steak was great. Will I come back? Nope, but our server did great with our rambunctious group.

This is a nice little establishment that shares the same entrance as the Marinades pizza place. My mom stopped by, so we were going to take her out for some pizza. The pizza place was pretty busy so we ducked in here instead and didn't have any trouble being seated, around 6pm (I think..) on a Saturday. Over all I was pleased with the place, but I think there is some room for improvement. There are a few things that are incongruous - a nice menu, nice atmosphere, but paper napkins?! Things like that.. Anyway, the decor is very nice. Most of the seating is upstairs as the main floor is largely consumed by the bar (and some night I hope to find my self at the bar consuming!) but there are maybe a dozen tables to be had. Upstairs has much more seating, sofas, a fireplace, and an outdoor covered deck that looked like a nice place to dine. Our service was fairly prompt, but the extras were routinely forgotten about - extra lemon for an iced tea, extra dressing - so we'd have to remind her. Our meals were ok to pretty good. We had an order of the bruschetta which was pretty tasty and had a very nice presentation, the only drawback being the tomatoes. Of course, its far from tomato season so I know I shouldn't be too picky about this. Frankly I think they were pre-diced tomatoes from a can. Hopefully when the farmers market is in full swing they can use some local foods. (Oh yeah, and put some nice fresh basil on there too. mmmm...) I had a bowl of french onion soup that was also a mixed bag. The broth and onions were very good, but the cheese seemed like a thin slice of kraft and slide under a broiler. I could be wrong, but either way it was not the best cheesy crust. I had the special of the day, which was grilled salmon, green beans, and rice. This was a fine dish and I would order again. Everyone else had sandwiches which they raved about. I ate part of a ham and cheese melt and it was very good. I'll be back to give it another go and see if they can improve on some of the details. Must be someone likes it, because the place was pretty swamped when we left.

Grill One Eleven is a great little place in Rockford. It's definitely a new favorite spot of ours. We were there on a night that they had some entertainement, which was very good. We started with the buffalo dip appetizer and we didn't even finish it. I wouldn't get it again, but I think maybe it just wasn't up our alley, period. Not sure it's an enjoyable appetizer anywhere unless you absolutely love buffalo chicken wings. We also had some homemade chips at the table, which were fabulous! We moved on to the clam chowder, which was out of this world!!! Very rich and a meal in itself. My husband had the prime dip sandwhich and I had the portabello wrap. They were both okay, but could have had some more meat and some more mushrooms and then they may have been super good. Their grapefruit martini was phenomenal and I will probably be back just for more of those. Service needs improvement, but overall we had a good experience at Grill 111 and will be back again.

This is another time that I wished that Yelp would allow us to give halfs. Our food was great. It was the best risotto I have ever had and an interesting medley of vegetables. My husband had a fantastic seafood dish with a wide variety of seafood. I enjoyed my chicken, but the Marsala was thin and appeared that it was a broken sauce. I feel that the price of the food is too high for what you get. Sure, it is excellent "fancy" food. But the ambiance of the restaurant doesn't fit that. It looks like a foodie place, which would have the prices a couple dollars lower or included a salad with the entree. Honestly, this is a 3.5 starts.... but I gave it 4 because it was the best risotto I ever had. Service, by the way, was very good. But, we were the only table there (we went at a weird time).

Great food. Consistently slow service at lunch time. Count on it taking more than an hour to get from sitting to getting your credit card back. But dinner is better (maybe because you aren't rushed). In nice weather the balcony out back (second floor) is nice (though small).

I really wish I could write a great review of this restaurant, being a rockford resident. We visited three times and each time was nearly identical: by far the slowest service I have ever received at a restaurant, and food so greasy that it made me nauseated. The experience is ruined when you are stuck waiting and looking around for 10-15 minutes for anything to progress, multiple times throughout the meal (service, food, water, bill..) and the food is so greasy that oil is running down your arm off of the burger you ordered or steak that is not marbled from start to finish but rather grisly, and very evident a steak from the market would be double the quality and a quarter of the price (and maybe double the size too..) The atmosphere on the upper level is nice, and the servers seem friendly. But it is just not up to par with what I am looking for in a dining experience, especially for the price they expect. If wait times improve, and food quality and portions improve, I would consider redining.
