OMG this place was fabulous!!! Liz & Megan were are servers over the weekend. They served our party of 22 for our grandmother's 90th birthday and they were top notch! We couldn't have been happier with the service, the food and the location. The deck was perfect & the kids loved the beach with all the beach toys & chairs. Plenty of fish to keep them occupied while the adults got to enjoy themselves. For anyone to say anything negative about the service at Bostwick Lake Inn should be ashamed of themselves. From the servers, to the bartenders & even the manager...all were AWESOME for us on Sat, July 18th. Thank you soooooo much, you made our grandmother's birthday very special! That's all we wanted!:) We definitely will be back again!

This was one of the best dinners I've had! My sister and I sat on the patio near sunset. The view was beautiful, and I love the replica vintage chairs and red umbrellas on the patio. She ordered the veggie burger with truffle fries, and I had the "Otto's half chicken" which was absolutely perfect, smoked but not too smoky, perfect texture! It came with mashed potatoes and asparagus, and we also ordered Brussels sprouts, broccoli, and sweet potato fries. (Needless to say, we had a TON of leftovers, but I wanted to try everything!) Everything was really really good! And all that, with 2 beers, was a very inexpensive price (I could be biased because I'm from NYC, but even for out here it was very reasonable)!

Nice lodge atmosphere on the lake with awesome outdoor seating. Two bars, one inside, and one out. I had the bleu cheese olive burger, which was perfect. The pretzel bun compliments the flavor nicely. It is a good spot if you live near or find yourself on Belding Rd. The parking is limited on busy nights, so plan accordingly.

OMG.....Great food. The flat iron steak, white cheddar augratin potatoes were scrumptious. ..The brussel sprout out of this world. The service was excellent, the view superb. The salted Carmel pecan brownie to die for. First time here but think I found my new favorite place.

Great food, nice beer selection, fantastic view outside and inside. The walleye was superb and the risotto was done just right. Great place to go for a dinner for two as well as a relaxing meal with the kids.

Stopped in here for their weekend deal $5 for a burger & beer. Although they offer several different burgers the deal has a dedicated burger. I'm down with that - $5 is a good deal but I do wish the email had said that. The burger comes with sweet potato chips that were pretty tasty and the burger overall was good. I asked for medium and wondered why it looked exactly like the medium well burger until I was halfway through & realized the server gave my medium to someone else so we ended up cutting our burgers in half and trading so we had what we wanted! The service was kind of slow even though they weren't that busy but we weren't in a hurry and our server was really nice. It is winter and the entrance way/bathroom was VERY cold. I thought it was a little cheesy that there was a container of soap sitting in a gold pot in the bathroom but what do I know? LOL If you go here for their deal you need to have or sign up for a "G" (Gilmore) card!

Awesome place to grab a drink and have dinner. Ever since Gilmore Group took this place over a few years ago the atmosphere and food has never been better. The live music is awesome on Thursday & Sunday. The wait staff is always friendly and attentive. The place does slow down in the winter, because the patio is closed. If you haven't been here since Gilmore took it over you're missing out.

Great food! Can't wait until summer having drinks and dinner on their deck. Friendly staff (Robin the hostess is outstanding)

Excellent food, great atmosphere. Plan ahead, you most likely will have to wait for a table.

Great food, but meals were late and not what we ordered. One meal was brought out when the rest of us were almost finished. We had to ask for the burger to be removed from our bill. They should have removed it out of courtesy. Again great food great atmosphere but poor service.

I so want to like this place. But the other night, with a bill for $48 dollars for 2 people that included an add on of $1.50 for another little cup of dipping sauce for their sweet potato chips and $6.00 for a local beer made by Perrin along with really slow ditzy service when it wasn't even that crowded, we finally said enough. It is truly a Gilmore group restaurant. This is same formula for all their restaurants I'm sorry to say - their restaurants are about locations and ambiance and not about the food, which is way overpriced for items that aren't even that good or that fresh, and service that just isn't happy to be working there. Oh wait, and overpriced, short pour drinks. Yes, this is the Gilmore Group restaurant formula. I'm sure plenty of people will pay these prices for the lake view here and at the Blue Water Grill and at Reed's Lake. But quite honestly, why would you?

Went out to the track with some friends and found this local gem by accident. Service and food were great! We will be back!

What a bummer. This place could be so cool. We have had a few average meals here...It's a good place to bring kids because they can play on the beach. Tonight we were kidless and stopped in for a drink. The entire place reaked of stale fish. The women's restroom was a nightmare. One toilet was "out of order" the second had no toilet paper, and the third had an overflowing "lady business" bin...just nasty. When I returned to the bar table no one had bothered to take our order.... after 15 mintues we left. It's really too bad because there are no other restaurants in that immediate area.

We recently made our 2nd trip to the BLI, and it was a great as the first. Right off the bat, the only reason it didn't get 5 stars is because the bar area is a bit cramped ( I love sitting at or near the bar...) and the stools on the high-tops are a bit uncomfortable. I may edited this to five stars after we have a chance to sit on the deck. That being said, my GF and I's food was delicious. We both had the Flat Iron Steak, which came with a small (perfectly sized) salad, crinkle fries and yummy grilled asparagus. Our steaks came sliced, making it easier to deal with and allowing me to know right off that it was cooked to temperature. My GF's only complaint was that it cooled faster this way. I didn't even try toe homemade steak sauce, as I thought everything was seasoned very nicely. The fries were crisp, the asparagus delicious and well seasoned, and the steak was very tender for the cut. The overall portion was a great value, and the service was pleasant an prompt, even though they we're very busy in the bar because of a basketball game. And they poured a decent drink.

This place is great. I have just been there one time but I plan to go back soon. We had dinner with a large group and the staff handled everything perfectly. The service was friendly and the food was excellent. We went after dark and noticed the great indoor atmosphere but I want to go back during the day to enjoy the lake view too! The food was delicious, its the service here that lacks. I went here with a group of four. My wife orders the BLI Mac and Cheese, and I order the Italian Sausage Pasta. Our entrees arrive and my wife quickly notices that her entree is not correct. They sent her their blackened chicken pasta. We notify the server who tells us that she will have the item removed from our bill and can make her the dish she ordered. My wife states that since that would be a waste of food and time she will just eat it. I then notice that there is ZERO Italian Sausage in my pasta. The server simply states that the meal I have is correct and walks away to get the Manhattan that my friend ordered. Surprise, surprise.... there is no vermouth in the Manhattan!! Low and behold, the server did not give me the pasta I ordered, but a lesser priced dish which I did not know until I looked at the menu to write this review... We end up ordering dessert and getting the check. Once the check arrives, she notifies us that the MANAGER will not be comping our meals but is instead just giving us a free dessert. Which the price of the dessert does not even cover the upcharge of the meals we ACTUALLY ORDERED AND PAID FOR! She apologizes for this and tells us to please not tip her! Unbelievable! The food was really good, but the management and service really needs a lot of work. This was our first Gilmore Group experience since moving to GR, and I will definitely avoid them and support smaller restaurants that actually want my business.

We had the shepherd's pie (which was on special) and 2 appitizers to share Dip and Brussels sprouts (while the dip was very good, the glazed Brussels sprouts are what I am raving over...the best)! There was a good selection of beer, wine, and cocktails. I really would have liked to try a dessert, but I was too full. They have an outside deck, which I'm looking forward to trying in warm weather. The restaurant is right on Bostwick lake. Overall, a very pleasant experience!

A great place for good food! Service was good, lots of friendly people. The food was fantastic. I would highly recommend the crispy brussle sprouts. Even if your not a fan of brussle sprouts, you gotta take a risk! The walleye was cooked perfect. We will be back very soon. I

Cold food, not cooked right, poor service, no drink refills, sitting in a cold corner. Tried this place twice. I'll never go back

We've been to the "New" Bostwick Lake Inn 2x now and each time has been excellent. The first time my wife and I went over to the restaurant late and enjoyed one of the pesto chicken pizza's, which was excellent. Most recently we went again with my sister and brother in-law and had one of the most amazing meals I've ever had in Michigan. The trout dip appetizer was phenomenal, absolutely fantastic. Then I ordered their filet tenderloin with creamy cauliflower. It was outstanding. Our service was excellent and I can't think of a meal I've enjoyed more in recent memory. Bravo to the new owners of BLI, I'm looking forward to enjoying another outstanding meal soon!

Food was excellent, service was poor. This was the first time I had been to the new Bostwick lake inn, and I love the interior. I had the salmon special, part of the three course special which was great value and very good food. Back to service, we had to wait 15 mins for a drink when we sat down and it wasn't very busy. That's one of my pet hates and then when the salads did come, they were immediately followed by the main before we had time to eat them. Overall I will definitely go back for the food as that was excellent!

(Current info about this restaurant is wrong. Former owner closed, and it is now being operated by The Gilmore Collection.) Under normal circumstances, Gilmore Collection would automatically mean 4-5 stars. However, don't plan on coming here with all your closest friends! On Saturday, May 26, we called at 4:00 pm to say that we had a family group of 11 (7 adults, 4 children) coming in at 5:00 pm to celebrate two birthdays (one was our daughter who know lives and works in Chicago and was eager to see the new BLI). However, we were told that the restaurant policy was a maximum of 6 at a table on the deck, and 7 at a table inside! She they would not allow two tables to be pushed together. In short, don't come in unless you want to sit in separate groups, which of course we didn't. Lots of disappointed folks. Not a good policy, nor a good way come into the neighborhood. So, if you plan to come for the ambience, great views, good food, and excellent service, come early and expect to wait, especially on weekends. However, you will apparently have to limit the size of your group.

Went to the BLI for Fathers Day and what a Disappiontment! Food took aver 45 minutes to arrive after ordering. Waiter and Manager appoligized and gave us 20% off the meal. Claimed the kitchen was slammed. Funny thing was there were only 4 other tables with people on the inside and less than 2/3 full on the deck. My son had the Breakfast Pizza and it looked like it was done first. The cheese was cold and hard. There were 2 little pieces of bacon about the size of a postage stamp on a 12" pizza. My daughter had the quiech (SP) it was raw and runney on the inside. I had the blue chees burger, I ordered it rare - it came just pink, medium at the most. My 6 year old grand daugher did not get her food until 5 minutes after everyone else. Her chicken strips were so hot she burned her fingers picking them up. I think that the server was a bit embarased because after a while he started to avoid our table. The Glimore restaurands generate a lot of hype but Their food and service at the BLI do not live up to it.

Love the new BLI! The larger deck is fantastic and the updated menu choices are great! I've had the mac and cheese, shrimp and risotto, and whitefish...all are great! The little shop up front serves great, cheap ice cream, too!

  • Joe J.

Rather overpriced for what is offered. Also, we waited over an hour for a table when there were numerous tables open...at least 10 tables open in the restaurant should not constitute over an hour wait. The fries, regular and sweet potato, are the exact same fries you get from the frozen section at Meijer which wouldn't be an issue if the prices weren't bordering on "premium". Beer selection is incredibly disappointing for being in a beer rich city like GR. You are paying for the atmosphere and nothing else really. Staff is really nice but all in all I just don't think it's worth it.

Stopped in for a 4th of July dinner with our extended family. We were hoping to sit outside on the deck, but it was a beautiful day so they couldn't accommodate a large party out there. We checked out the deck afterwards, and it looked very cool. We sat at a table with a great view of the lake. Our server, Linnea, was super friendly and efficient. All of the food looked great and everyone really enjoyed it. We started with the Brussels sprouts and they were really good. The rolls and garlic butter were very tasty! A couple of us had the risotto with shrimp entree and it was outstanding. One person tried the pizza, a couple had burgers, a couple had Mac and cheese and one had the quesadillas. Everyone left happy and full! We would definitely return, anytime of year, but particularly in the summer!

I must admit a mixed review is coming. The food was excellent and appropriately priced. The atmosphere is lovely and cottage like, exactly what I was hoping for! The bar and brew selection was great! I especially enjoyed my Atwater draft which was an amazing double chocolate stout! Here is the downside! On a beautiful sunny Spring day when Michiganders are reminded why we choose to live in this state, the customers crawled out from under their rocks and headed to BLI for dinner! Our bartender was exceptional, he was talented, attentive and helpful without being pushy! Qualities that are greatly appreciated by patient but hungry diners. After we had enjoyed our first drink and the house made sweet potato chips and warm goat cheese dip, he asked if we were still waiting for a table. When we replied yes he was on it! We had been lost in the shuffle, this wasn't a surprise because the hostess was in and out, not sure what that was all about. Once seated our server, was attentive but also spread too thin as other reviewers had noted. Entrees arrived in a fairly timely manner but my husband's coffee came about 15 min. After my dessert, might as well skip it by then! It was my birthday, but after a couple of Atwaters I was pretty chill, and then when my hubby mentioned it was my birthday and we found out that my entree was free! Well, heck it was all good! Definitely visit Bostwick Lake Inn, but go patient because it could be a long leisurely night. Love that cottage atmosphere, but the service is killin' this place. This place is a gold mine but it is totally missin' the boat with regards to utilizing their potential. There were empty tables everywhere that could have been full of happy patrons. Bottom line, they need more staff.

Always a great casual dining experience. Relaxing sitting in the deck. Looking forward to some lake perch

Atmosphere is nice, service was great. The food is okay. As I always say, the Gilmore Collection has perfected mediocrity. I have never left one of their establishments in shock and awe but also have not had a truly disappointing experience. Love the deck and the mini beach. Pretty cool.

Was in Rockford and a pal took us here, dining on the lake is usually fun. Well BLI was truly fun & very good! The locals tell me this was recently taken over by the Gilmore Group, which improved & enhanced this place . Walked in at 6pm on a Saturday & were seated by 6:20 on the deck, which has great views of the lake & comfy seating. Our server knew the menu quite well, down to the ingredients, extras & favorites. I ordered the blue cheese flat iron steak. which came with grilled asparagus , a tangy sweet sauce & sweet potato fries All were very good in taste/flavor. The flat iron steak though was a tad bit tough-stringy Flat iron steaks basically remind me of fajiata meat. I saw tray after tray of AMAZING desserts go by.. too bad there was zero room to try any, especially the creme brulee

Slow service, too much noise to have a conversation, and only partially air conditioned! The Alaskan Sockeye Salmon was excellent! It earned back two of the stars lost for ambiance. The Potato Chip Corn Crusted Walleye was even better! Brought BLI nearly back up to five stars! But the Beef Tenderloin was very disappointing and New York Strip was full of gristle. Started this with four stars because I loved the salmon, but with everyone's disappointment, I need to change it to three. So sorry because we like to eat here - my wife and I both ordered fish! But next time we will plan to wait, and eat outside. Definitely Salmon and Walleye. Too late now for dessert.

It's really a great place to eat. The staff is awesome and the food is excellent. Parking is kinda odd but the food and atmosphere make up for that. Make sure to get the Truffle Fries.

The overall experience here is excellent. I could nitpick a few things such as having to walk against the crowd waiting to be seated to use the restroom, a less than world class beer menu or the slightly slow service at less than super busy times. However, the overall experience to me with the vintage cottage lakefront atmosphere plus the first rate Gilmore Group food brings me to five stars without hesitation. I love the mushroom chicken pasta, the wings, the Italian sausage pasta and the French onion soup plus so much more. Maybe it's actually a good idea they don't have more top drawer beers because it could become a beer geek flophouse very easily. I've noticed the other Gilmore Group restaurants keep only two or three world class beers on tap, and that's probably not a coincidence. If they had 20 top flight beers, the cooks would be playing on their smartphones waiting for something to do. With the wonderful atmosphere and lake view, there are a lot of beer geeks who would love to pass a few hours drinking four pints of world class beer tying up precious table space, hoping to see a drunken mariner accidentally drop their Rolex from a pontoon boat. That is a perfect Michigan afternoon. Regarding the Gilmore Group restaurants, If you want a slightly fancy dining experience, try the Blue Water Grill or Rose's, if you want a rustic and woodsmoke filled ambience, try the Flat River Grill and if you want a cottage on the lake atmosphere, try the Boswick Lake Inn.

Always wonderful service! Always great food. A little bit smaller portions. But everything tastes great. Some of my favorites: shepherds pie, sausage pasta, and BLI Mac n cheese, and of course the Spanish Coffee after church on Sundays! It's great to sit out on the deck in the summer to be by the lake.

I really love this place. It's near the Grattan Raceway, which my husband and I frequent during the summer. So we stop by here for dinner on the way to our hotel. First off, there is always a wait that we've been. Always. It's always crowded, but the hostesses do their best to get you seated as quick as they can. One of the times we went was Mother's Day weekend. We were seated in an hour, and we arrived unannounced with no reservation. Luckily we arrived almost at 5pm exactly. People who arrived after us were greeted by a 2 hour wait. But it was Mother's Day and none of these people had reservations either and they complained about the wait! It's one of the biggest restaurant days of the year and you're complaining because you didn't make a reservation and there's a wait? Ugh. Anyway, the food has always been really great. We've been here twice and I've had their smoked chicken (good, but the breast was a little dry) and a seasonal pasta dish (AMAZING!). My husband has gotten the burger both times (very good, but a little overcooked). The food is always the highlight because it's always good, it's always decently quick (even with huge crowds), and the price is decent. The only downside is the service. Not the hostesses, they're great. But our waitresses have always been crazy, insanely rushed and their service suffered for it. Getting refills was pretty difficult and we actually had to flag down our server to pay. They were usually fairly friendly, just insanely overworked. I think management needs to give them smaller sections at busy times and hire in a few more to lighten the load. The service experience would go up for customers. But the food? Delicious.
