Does not hold up to reviews. Slow service, cold grilled sandwiches, and servers that don't seem to want to be there. If you want a salad, sandwich, or soup go somewhere else in down town Rochester and there's plenty of places to do that.

Great sandwiches and salads - I ordered the Greek Chicken salad and it was a very decent portion and fresh-tasting! Small, retro location right in the heart of downtown - I would come here again!

Although my meal wasn't bad here, I'm not sure that I'd recommend coming here if you are really hungry. It's one of those places with the GIANT menu's where making a decision on an empty stomach is virtually impossible. I had one of their roast beef sandwiches and a cup of soup. The soup was nothing special at all, could have very easily come from a giant can as far as I'm concerned. The sandwich was also just average, not bad at all, but just nothing special about it either. In all honestly, this is a place that'd I'd probably come a lot more if I could order at a counter and eat quickly, but the fact that you have to sit down and wait to be served really makes this place lose its luster for me.

Main Street Deli is great. Tons of options at a reasonable price. Big sandwiches with fresh ingredients, very impressive salads, fantastic soups! Also, what they say about the strawberry chicken salad is in fact, true. And I am someone who cannot STAND fruit paired with meat. But I can stand this. Ohhhh yes, I can stand this. One minor complaint: I wish they were open later!

I love the homemade soup and delicious salads. I'm not giving five stars due to the lack of quality bread for the sandwiches. I think good bread is the base of a great sandwich and their bread is low quality grocery store loaves.

Very nice little deli! I was hungry for soup/sandwich but was sick of the chains so we dropped in on a Friday afternoon. There are dozens and dozens of options to choose from. For a sandwich place, this might have been the most extensive menu I've ever encountered. I got the beef barley soup and a ham club sandwich and both were delicious. My husband also had the soup and an egg salad sandwich and he was very pleased with his as well. Pricing is on par with other restaurants of this type and the service was top-notch. The only two things that keep me from giving this place 5 stars is 1) the overall atmosphere -- a little run-down, very bland; and 2) our drinks (fountain sodas) were really watered down. I'm serious about my soda-pop and can't stand watery fountain sodas. But both of those issues are relatively minor and would not keep me from recommending this place. Overall experience was positive.

Always have great sandwiches and salads and at reasonable prices.

Another favorite of mine! The strawberry chicken salad is the best. (they are "famous" for it in Rochester) Any anything else you could want- they have. You can make substitutions and they don't get mad! They are pretty fast too. Good lunch rush in there. Never a let down. Always a good lunch!

I never would've known about this place if it wasn't for my friend Pauline. We set out in Rochester to do some photography and ended up having a late lunch here. The menu is more than extensive, the prices are very reasonable and the help is fantastic. Their menu has an extremely extensive list of salads, sandwhiches (reubens, clubs, subs, you name it), as well as your usual burgers and whatnot. Their sandwhiches and salads, however, are the reason to go. Its a perfect place to pick up delicious food, walk to the Rochester Municipal Park on the river and have a great picnic.

I have to say, I don't think "DELI" and get a salad... so for the rest of you that claim the salads work for you, great. I came here to try them out again after years of not on account of dull foods. Only to my surprise to be disappointed again. Amy H. says "fantastic soups"? I had clam chowder that tasted like it was from last week and probably wasn't even more than a BROWN rue with caned clams to begin with. I also tried the classic deli style sandwich any deli should do well.... a Ruben. The meat was portioned nicely I guess, not too much, not too little, but the bread was hard, like two day old rye from Spartan brand bagged lunches. Although, that rye probably would've been better. What happened to the local deli's? Using the local bakery and markets for the ingredients in the product? I figure this deli will still hang on even in this economy with the few "Rochesterites" that appreciate this garbage. This particular buy of four sandwiches (Ruben, 2 Ham and Cheese, Turkey on Rye) along with the frozen deep fried mushrooms and BROWN New England clam chowder was all just under $40 with the suggested 15%/20% tip gratuity suggested underneath my total on my take out order. The worst part is I would have done better and cheaper making my own at home. To sum it up... If you feel like wasting money on poorly prepared food and low quality ingredients, this is a place for you!

Overall, not a bad place to eat. I got a ruben sandwich. It came out quick, piled with thinly sliced meat and topped with cheese. The amount of sauce on the sandwich is perfect. It's enough to add to the flavor, but the sandwich is swimming and soggy because of it. One thing they need to work on is the pickles. The taste like cucumbers and had a horrible, mushy texture. The waitress was attentive without being overbearing. I'll be back.

The Main Street Deli is a great place to go for a good, hardy, classic meal. While it can get expensive, they're food is always just plain old good! You have a good variety to choose from and the service is great. If you're looking for a good simple meal, I definitely recommend this Deli.

THE OWNER IS SO RUDE!! This place is falling apart! You can feel it when you go in there. The food is great but you can tell when the servers aren't happy. I have personally seen the owner yell at her servers in front of customers. That never looks good and you can see how that reflects on the atmosphere.

Well I can see from all of the reviews for this place that alot of people love it there. My experience was not a good experience, maybe I was just the lucky fluke that got a bad sandwich. Went there for a lunch break with some associates, the place was packed! Seemed understaffed as well, but we proceeded to sit down anyway. The poor waitress was by herself in the dining room so the 15 minute wait for service was understandable and sympathized with. Anyway order in, I ordered the reuben, hadn't had a good reuben in a while. 15 minutes later I got my sandwich, not good at all. The meat seemed really gamey, overcooked, who knows maybe marinated in the owner's sweat. I know I could have sent it back but who has another 15-20 minutes to kill when you're on a timeframe. The people in the kitchen looked old, tired, hot, and in need of some gatorade at the very least. So I'm going to have to give the place a "no" based on my one experience. I might give it another shot in the summer and keep you updated. Don't order the reuben.

Order by Number with +-'s. If you want it they will make it. Lunch hours only 10:30 to 4:00 Monday thru Saturday. I like the 55. Chicken Breast on Pita with Lettus, tomato, and Onion.

Fantastic, delicious, reasonably priced deli! Main Street has amazing sandwiches and salads and they always use fresh ingredients. The strawberry chicken salad is the best! The restaurant itself is very clean and the wait staff is always polite and efficient. Nothing but great things to say about this place!!

Great local place for sandwiches and salads! Right in downtown Rochester. Their staff is very friendly and always attentive. You can usually get in and out pretty fast too. Some things to try: - beef barley soup - strawberry chicken salad (very good) - Reuben sandwich (also very good) Only tricky thing can be parking sometimes.

Well priced, very large salads. I had The Fogler Salad and my friend had the Greek Salad w Chicken. Both were delicious!
