What an awful "dining" experience, if you can call it that. There were 8 of us, 7 adults and one child, age 10. We arrived at 6:30pm Monday night, which is "Mexican Night" at the Golden Eagle. We were seated promptly and a hostess came by the table to tell us that we could get complementary chips and salsa, so we said we'd like them. We received one very small basket of stale chips that had about 20 chips in the basket. Just one basket for the whole table of 8 to share. You can do the math... but we each got about 2.5 chips. We were told there were no refills. A server took our drink order and then it took him THIRTY minutes to come back and take our food order. He referred to the men at the table as "senor." We waited 40 minutes for our food to arrive, so during that time I had a chance to look around the restaurant. It was like going back in time to 1970. The decor is a combo of Old Bowling Alley and greasy spoon diner. Very odd. Nothing seems to go together. It's very dark and they have a big fish tank at the entrance. The bar is like an old 70's bar- vinyl bar top and old stools. 90% of the clientele is age 70 or older. In the background was music from the 1980's- Michael Jackson and the like. Cooks ring a bell when an order is ready. It was annoying to hear that every few minutes. When our food finally did arrive it was just awful. Everything was cold and tasted like it had been frozen or purchased from someplace like Gordon's Food. 2 dishes were sent back because they were so bad and we didn't order anything else. The server took them off the bill, which was nice, but hey, they were not edible! The restaurant was also very dirty and it smelled funny. There was a drink/dessert menu on the table that was so dirty and caked with scum that we put it on the shelf behind our booth. I wouldn't go back to this restaurant even if the food was free.

Consistency! Smelt, cheeseburger, filet mignon, and fried chicken - all recent selections and all very good. I had the white fish special the other night and it was delicious. Maggie is still running the bar efficiently and effectively. This should be your go to place for consistently good food, drink, and service. It continues to be ours.

My fav "must-eat-at" restaurant ever. The filet is excellent with Mario sauce. Shrimp scampi appetizer is amazing. Love the hard breadsticks with butter pre-meal. And the absolute best dessert I've ever put in my mouth is Fred's Bananas Tropical (bananas foster)! Restaurant almost has an "Italian family" decor (yes, a little dated, but very homey and comfortable).

Great food! Great service! The location is in a strip mall which normally would have a negative impact. But, once you're inside everything seems fine and the decor seems fitting for this type of place. The atmosphere is nice but you wouldn't go here for trendy design or hip new menu items. You go here for comfort food. Well prepared, great food brought by friendly servers and always prompt. I've been here often and have never had a bad experience. Consistently great!

If you want consistently good food and an extensive menu this is your hometown place. Yep, it's in a strip mall but that shouldn't deter anyone. The shrimp scampi is great, steak sandwich with Mario sauce is tasty and memorable, the spaghetti Bolognese is northern Italian so mild and comforting, drinks are good and well priced. Specials are great too! They even aren't afraid to serve liver and onions. Locals sometimes call it "the club" or "the Eagle". For good steaks their filet or beef tips with mushrooms are good also and they will make Caesar salads and bananas Foster tableside. Blast from the past maybe....but almost always great. I would have fish and chips during the week......too many orders can lower the temperature of the fryers so outside is beautiful inside maybe soggy. Their mini and full sized Hummers are WONDERFUL.

A very nice surprise. Didn't look like much from outside, but inside looks like a '70s dinner club. Bar even has short stools with padded bar. The decor is not old, looks like it was remodeled that way. Service was prompt and friendly throughout the entire meal. Everything came at a reasonable pace. The seafood appetizer trio was really tasty. The calamari and shrimp were the best we've had around here. This is a place I would definitely bring my elder parents for a "fancy" place to celebrate an occasion.

I just ate at the Golden Eagle today and I'm sorry but I can't go along with the other reviews. I just don't see what all the praise is about. The decor is very dark, and screams 70's, which I suppose suites the clientele since most of them were in their 70s as well. The food was VERY average and the French fries were what you would expect from Gordon's Food Supply (which I suspect where most of their dishes come from). Again, it wasn't bad, just very uninteresting. The price was ok, but I think I'll find some other place to eat.

The first time I visited the Golden Eagle I thought, Wow it's in a strip mall and it's one of the best known places in town for great food. They did not disappoint one bit. The filet with homemade zip sauce was one of the best I've ever had. Their tiramisu martini was undoubtedly divine. I've been going back often for the last several years and it's one of my favorite spots in Rochester!

If you are looking around northern Oakland County for a great out of the way restaurant....This place is for you!!!!! Hidden in a strip mall at the corner of Tienken and Rochester Rd's in Rochester Hills is a gem of a restaurant. Not only is the food amazing and staff very helpful and courteous, you dont have to withdraw from your kids college savings to pay for it. When you first walk in you will feel like you time traveled back to 1975. The decor is a little on the dark and brown side with the exception of the flat screen TV's over the bar and in the front area. DONT let this fool you. Once seated they have specials of the day written out for you and phenominal fresh bread. EVERYTHING here is good. I get the Filet Mario which is one of the best steaks time and time again I have ever had. The Mario sauce is also fantastic. I also like the Calimari, Chicken Picate, and Shrimp Scampi. The veteren waitstaff are professional and friendly. There are coupons in the local POST paper and in ValPak. The Filet is only in the lower to mid twenties for a good size steak and everything on the menu is priced below that. BEST DEAL: SURF and TURF, words cant describe how good that is!! Overall you will not be disappointed!!!

We love this place every time we walk in it's like walking into the 70s but it's a good thing the owner always is there which is great to see the waitstaff have been there for years which is a great thing.... Food is yummy the shrimp scampi and filet yum... Service is great and it's family owned I love this place

Hate to admit this...But we have been going to Golden Eagle for over 26 years. But I am happy to admit. We love it. Love the table side Cesar Salad. The zip sauce is really good. Bummed they charge extra. They have to have the smallest kitchen in Oakland Co. But they can put the food out. We love the ranch dressing there too... I must say the owners/hosts are not friendly at all. Thank God the food makes up for it..

Great place for a variety of foods in Rochester. Form burgers to filets I love them all! My personal favorite is the twin pork chops! Ps: Fred the owner is a great host!

Ambience has a 70's feel. Could really use some updating. The bread basket was a dollar store wicker basket with packaged breadsticks and some freezer to oven rolls. Seemed to be an older crowd of patrons and a very Rams Horn type quality of food. If you like Rams horn, you'll love this place. For us foodies, this was not a winner!

This was a hard review to give - because it is one of those places where you would like to give 4 stars, but I just don't know. So I'm going to give them another shot sometime soon - and update this. My experience: - muscles appetizer was good! - salads were good - pan fried lake Perch was just ok. Not the best Perch I've had. And I kept finding something that looked like a "fish scale" in my mouth - like if part of it hadn't been cleaned very good. - chicken picante was pretty good - we also tried a couple deserts and they were all pretty good One issue is that we thought the $$ was a little much for the overall experience I think most people in there focus more on "drinks" versus "food". Unfortunately for me, nothing makes up for the food - that's why I'm there.

Closer to 2.5 stars. Would have been three stars if the Fettuccini Fruttee de Mare didn't have mussels that had gone bad. I haven't had a seafood pasta anywhere since. The service is consistent and the other food has been good. Maybe it was an outlier of an experience?

Very disappointed in my last visit. I had a reservation for 8. When we arrived the reservation had been given to someone else. We walked to our table in the back only to be told it was given to another group. Therefore had to walk back to the front which is not a big deal unless you are 72, 88 and 91 yrs old. The "manager" just kept telling us it would be 5-10 minutes - which was the part I disliked the most because I know it would be longer (which it was- closer to 30 minutes). I understand situations happen but don't lie to me after they do. Give me a real time the table will be ready especially if 5 of the party are over 60 yrs old. We deserved at least that much. The wait staff did their usual good job. We've been going there for many years but again very disappointed in the last visit.

I didn't have high expectations, when I went to the golden eagle. I knew the decor would be dated. I expected a diner experience from a local favorite. My wife and I arrived at 6pm. We were able to step in the door, but could not get to a hostess to give our name. After watching people come and go, I stepped outside and called to make a reservation for 8 (thinking we'd go kill some time at local shops and come back). I was told they did not make reservations for small parties. After 15 minutes, I identified who the hostess was and gave her our name. A few minutes later I was a couple empty stools at the bar. We ordered the chocolate martini, and a scotch on the rocks. They were promptly provided along with a glass of water. Shortly after that we were seated at a table. This was just before 7pm. I had planned on ordering the night's special - prime rib. I was told they were out. That was it for me. I was disappointed. I won't return. The food I did eventually get was ok. But it wasn't what I was interested in getting.

Always quality food for reasonable prices. It reminds me of the 70's dinner club. Darkly lit, lounge look. Looks like you'd expect Bill Murray to come out singing in his light blue tux. They have their regular crowd which goes back to the 50s. Excellent service because the waitresses are well seasoned. They still do the table side ceased salad! It all good.

This almost hole-in-the-wall place has some of the best drinks and food at reasonable prices in metropolitan Detroit. The owner, Fred, personally greets all the customers, and most of the staff has been there for years. Don't be turned off by the older crowd that usually packs this place in, they're mostly regulars! The Steak Sandwich with extra mario sauce, or the Friday Fish & Chips are some of the best items on the menu, but everything is good! Classic American fare, with strong drinks. Definitely come during the holidays!

This place answered the often thought about question, "where did all those blue-hairs go after bill knapps went under.? The answer, my friend, is the golden eagle tavern. Here you can find them, scrunched over their haddock and baked potato, discreetly gumming their fodder.
