Great Pasties, a must try.

I love UP North. The pasties and gravy are amazing. We used to get pasties all the time in Grand Ledge from an authentic pasty shop and unfortunately they closed. I thought I'd never be able to find authentic pasties again. They are just the right mixture of vegetables and chicken or beef. The gravy adds a lot of flavor. I also love their sandwiches and soups. One of my favorites is their broccoli and cheddar soup. Also, their beer battered cod is amazing! The fish is cooked perfectly and is just the right amount of fried so that's it's crispy and delicious but not overly greasy or fatty. If you haven't tried the food yet here, you're missing out!

Just down the street from work and easily my favorite lunch spot in Richland. BBQ briscuit sandwich is my favorite but all the sandwiches and soups I've tried are good. Cheesesteak and cudighi are great, too. The bread is fresh and awesome. I rarely get sides because they seem expensive and sandwiches are huge anyway. Pasties are good and some people swear by them, but they're not my favorite. The dessert case always looks good, but I've never ordered any...I mean, who gets dessert with lunch?!?

I had a really great turkey and provolone sandwich today. I was seeking an alternative to typical Subway nonsense... UP North really came through with a fresh and delicious hoagie roll, great real turkey, fresh jalapeños, and good cheese. The staff is really friendly, and supporting a local business where the money stays in a community is always a good idea in my book.

Excellent waffle fries and fried mushrooms. Only order one side if you are going to with two people hough as the sides are large portions.

Well, I USED to like Up North. Unfortunately, two of the last 3 meals I've had from there were, well, barely edible. First there was the ham sandwich....with Kraft singles for the cheese. Really??? FAKE cheese??? I pulled off the cheese and ate the (boring) remains. Next I had the chicken salad. It was fine. Today I ordered a French Dip and onion rings. I received a nice, large order of onion rings. Too bad they are inedible. I took a bite of one and ended up spitting it out. It tasted STALE. How the heck do frozen onion rings get stale?? Anyway, I thought "ok, maybe it was just that one." Nope. After taking bites out of 4 more, with the same result, I had to throw them out. The French Dip was large. Large does not make up for blehhhhh. No flavor. Just sliced beef, overcooked, on a white bread baguette with melted cheese. No onion. No flavor. The au jus was luke warm and likewise, had no flavor. I did finish most of the sandwich because I had had no breakfast. Now my stomach is decidedly upset. I think I am done with Up North, at least for a while. Hopefully their pastys haven't gone downhill....they have been a winter staple for me.

Wow!! Came in on a Saturday and was told they had no pasties! What? UP North no pasty shop.

Recently opened and the second site for an established Allegan restaurant. Very friendly, fast service. Large portions for the price. We don't eat a lot of pasties but they have the best we've tried. We enjoyed the homemade soups and pastries.

Easily a five star! The best roast beef patty melt I've ever had. The dressing was out of this world. The meat, so tender and delicious! Then I tried the "red velvet cheesecake"!!! WoW! If you haven't tried UP North sandwich shop in Richland, MI you are seriously missing out!

I love this place. Tasty, affordable, local establishment. It is my go to in Richland. The pasty with gravy is delicious. I also love the chicken salad croissant sandwich :-)

As a life-long Detroit east-sider, I found myself recently semi-chaperoning a student trip to Gull Lake High School. My semi-chaperoning trip was designed in part to allow me to complete a paper for grad school, so I escaped for a few hours to work at the local library. And what do you do when you're starving and working on a grad paper in the middle of a town by Battle Creek where you've never been before... ask the librarian for a lunch recommendation, of course! The very nice librarian sent me a stone's throw down the road to UP North. I have never really considered myself a pasty connoisseur, but I drove the .14 miles down the street from the library and meandered in. The place is really cute with lots of small town/UP charm. And they have a large case of pastries to taunt you as you stand and wait to order. I was originally going to be a good Catholic and stick with meat-less something for Friday.... but temptation got the best of me when I discovered they had Chicken Gnocchi soup on the specials. I caved... sue me, I'll make it up. I ordered a bowl of soup and a chicken pasty with a side of gravy. The lovely lady at the counter handed my ticket to another girl an gave me my cup and table number... I had barely enough time to put my change away, grab my Diet Pepsi, and take my coat off at the table and my food was there, warm and delicious smelling. The soup was incredible - I know, now I'm a sinning Catholic who is elated by soup, but it was AWESOME. The gnocchi replacement of the noodles may, in fact, be the best food substitution ever and is going to be implemented into my own recipe. It was very obviously homemade, had great depth of flavor and came with a nearly upper-peninsula-sized hunk of fresh bread. I gobbled it. Not ate, gobbled. I'm only here for two days and I'm tempted to go back and get more. And more. And take it home. And try to replicate it. The pasty was VERY good, root veggies weren't total mush, chicken was flavorful...if I were a pasty expert, I'd call it pasty perfection. I would have eaten more if I hadn't been so full - damn that giant hunk of bread... On the up side, I have half a pasty for later. Just another example that the smallest place that you'd drive past and never see or think twice of is usually the best find! Dear UP North, please open a location in the Detroit area. K, thanks :-)

Yummy chicken pasty.

Chicken Pasty with gravy, this is their Signature Special! We really love their taste, but also good "pasty" portion size ( we shared as small snack lunch), reasonably priced for $4.89 + 79c gravy gave us a hint of why the original Allegan restaurant is successful and build a new place. It is located in downtown Richland Village, at first we thought it is a cute sweets store, but it is "Pasty" - steak or chicken ( like chicken better), potato, rutabaga and onion wrapped with pie like crust store! It is from Up North Michigan copper and iron mine's food. On their menu: ($5.49~5.99) Roast Beef Sandwich with Au Jus, Cheese Steak, Chicken Cordon Blue, Dirty Reuben, Pecan Chicken Salad Croissant, Greek Salad, Italian Sub, Veggie Sub, Chili and Soup of the Day etc. We tried some of sandwiches and many more Pasty, was all good taste always. We wish to have regular and large sandwich portions for bigger appetite! It is very exciting to see a new small restaurant in town which offers such a fantastic taste and excellent menu. recommend it! 4.5
