I've been coming to this restaurant for years, Food is always great! I have noticed the last year that service has gone way down hill. I was there during the lunch hour and there were only a few people in the restaurant. I'm on a special diet for my health and requested a hamburger patty grilled on flat top (no oil), fresh tomato slices, and orange slices. I had an ice tea no sugar. Bill came to over $9.00. I could have a full dinner for less than that. If you are looking for good omelettes and service isn't so important, this is your place. But I will never go back.

Friend advised about the place so we decided to go. Surprised found a seat when walked in the door on a Sunday at 10 since it is known for breakfast. Place knows what they do and they so it well as theplace is not fancy but was clean. Ordered the southern omelette which was great. They do have 3 sizes and be aware for the medium is plenty big enough and that is the one I choose. The large I did see someone order and all can say is be prepared for a to go box. All in all everything was perfect and at under $10 with beverage value is great.

The food here is great. Everything else leaves little to be desired. Unless you're a regular do not expect a friendly greeting or any pleasantries. The lettuce on the side is weird, but sometimes you have to be unique. Then again if you're going to do that, make sure the lettuce isn't brown and soggy. WARNING: If you like cream in your coffee, be sure to ask for the creamer from the fridge!!!! They keep real milk creamer warm and out on the tables and it is often spoiled!

One of my favorite breakfast joints in Metro Detroit. huge, AWESOME omelettes! My girlfriend and I usually share the crepe combo which gets you 2 of your favorite crepe style omelettes. Food - I've not had an omelette that I haven't liked but my favorite by far is the Polish omelette. Kielbasa, green onions and mushrooms with sour cream on top. Nom nom nom. The Deli omelette with corned beef is also really good. Price - We usually leave pretty stuffed after spending less than $15 for breakfast. Awesome. Ambiance and service - Nothing special. It's quite a dive really but considering the price and quality of the food I wouldn't complain. The service can be all over the place. You occasionally need a wait a bit to get service. This is my only gripe about the place but given the awesome food, I'll still keep coming back...

Gest Omelettes is our go to breakfast place. Everyone we have ever taken here has like it too. The omelets are yummy. I usually get the Popeye and have them put the ranchito sauce on it instead. I get the crepe style because it is huge and comes with hash browns, if you get a 3 egg then it does not come with them because the omelet takes up the whole plate on its own. The Mexican Revolution is also a favorite of mine. My husband has had quite a few different ones and has liked them all. For those of you who aren't breakfast/brunch fans they also have a lunch menu. The layout of the place is a bit odd and really nothing fancy. Parking can be a bit of a pain if they are busy but we haven't had too many issues at the time we normally go. The facility is nothing to write home about but the food sure is!

I will preface this review by saying had I reviewed this place under previous ownership it would have gotten 5 stars. I loved it. It was responsible for my cholesterol spiking. And I didn't care. Now, not so much. The food is still pretty good. The same guy works the grill, so there's that. But the portions are smaller, the prices are higher and the service is TERRIBLE. On a busy-ish Sunday it took 45min from the time we ordered to get our food. We had a toddler with us who was beyond patient, but I nearly lost it. We walked right in and got a table right away, so it's not like they were completely jammed. And it wasn't just our table. Lots of other people were waiting as long as us. Upon paying our bill I discussed this situation with the "manager" who couldn't have cared less. Her response "we had a lot of carry-out orders." I repeat...."carry-out orders." I told her than why not tell them 30min instead of 15 and serve people that are actually in your restaurant and pay your servers wages. She looked at me as if I was speaking another language. She then said "well we'll be remodeling soon, so maybe that will help?" Wow!? Clueless, careless ownership and terrible service will doom this once great spot. Too bad.

1st first comin here since all my other breakfast places were closed for Easter Sunday. ( gest-omelettes.com ) I actually didn't really like it... maybe it was the fact that it took 15mins for someone to greet me and take my order or maybe it's because they charged me a service fee to use my debit card. (Whatever happen to greeting a customer at the door?!) Anyways....this is a small mom-pops diner! It's a little small; something like your neighborhood coney island place which can on fit between 30 to 40 people. Since I was craving breakfast -- I decided to go here! Of course, you have to go with an omelette (Farmer omelette) which was crepe style which means only two eggs and the weirdest thing they asked if I wanted lettuce on my omelette. (Ewww!) Unfortunately I wasn't pleased -- matter of face, I saw the manager omelette and he's was totally better than my omelette. I might give them another try but no time soon; especially when you spend almost $8 for it.

I came in about an hour before they closed for a late breakfast. There was literally one other person in there with his food already. I ordered a crepe omelette and it took about 25 minutes to come out. I really didn't want to be that asshole that was there after close but they seemed more preoccupied with closing than being fast with the food so I could get in and out, and I got the vibe from everyone there that they didn't want me in there. Aside from that though, I got the vegetarian omelette and the whole breakfast was delicious and perfectly filling.

I have been going to Gest Omelets for over 30 years! They had a change of owners recently and this was my first visit since the change of hands. It was freshly painted on the outside and looked nice when walking up! I had my usual- a name your own ingredient omelet with delicious Bernaise sauce and I have to say it was as delicious as it has always been! The service was fast and friendly! I was very pleased and happy that it was still as good as I had hoped!

I have been coming here for years. It's a nice little breakfast restaurant and a real hospitable feel to it. As soon as I walked in I was greeted immediately by a very good looking waitress, that's always a plus. She was very polite and explained all of the specials in detail. If your a fan of Omelettes this is the only place to be. They have many different choices but the best of all is that they have homemade sauces for each individual omelettes. They always use fresh ingredients. My friend complained that the restaurant was a little dirty for his liking. I do agree that the tables seemed a little sticky and wooden part of the tables were dusty and grimy so thing I suggest is that they clean just a little bit better. But the food is fantastic and they really do have a great reputation for their omelette's.

If you are looking for a great breakfast place and a great omelette, Gest Omelettes is the place to go! My sister and I enjoyed a mid-morning breakfast on a Saturday. We both had the Popeye Omelette which was great - it was topped with Bearnaise sauce which we've never had before, but made the omelette even more tasty. And, depending on your appetite, they give you three different size choices for your omelette. My Mom, Grandma and I used to eat here when I was younger and I'm glad they're still making great food! BTW, their coffee is excellent!

I finally made it in here for an omelette after years of driving past it thinking "I wonder how their omelettes are". I didn't really read any of the rest of the menu as I was solely focused on the omelettes & I ended up getting one with sausage & cheese & veggies & sausage gravy on it I think...it was good but it was a little too salty for my liking. I was only able to eat about 1/2 of it & had to scrape off a lot of the gravy as it wasn't helping the salty factor & there was just too much of it...I think I'd get sauce on the side next time. My friend got an omelette that had ham & veggies in it with no sauce at all & when the omelette came out it looked funny (like a pancake wrapped around the filing), granted there was no sauce on it but most omelettes don't have sauce & they still look like eggs, not pancakes. The service was great, the server was funny & was chatting us up about other places to eat & other items they have that are worth trying & you could tell that they get a lot of regulars coming through which is always nice to see. The restaurant itself is a bit of a dump & could use a remodel but if you are just looking for a quick bite rather than fancy decor then I would definitely suggest checking this place out.

My parents were raving about this place so I had to check it out. The menu looked awesome and I was really excited about the Greek omelette because it came with gyro meat, feta and olives. When I got it it seemed like the meat was just ground beef. It was still really good, but I was kind of disappointed that it wasn't what it said it would be. Their rye toast is excellent. The coffee was kind of cold. The hash browns were good. The service was fast and the waitress was attentive and she was funny.

I hadn't been to this restaurant in a few years. Unfortunately for the restaurant there are new owners who do not believe in customer service. I waited 45 minutes for my order...45 minutes!!! The food was not nearly as good as the previous owners, and when I complained about my food the owner told me their was nothing he could do for me. The previous owners were very kind, hard-working and it was always a pleasure to go there. Now, it is definitely not worth the drive. I would never go there again. There are plenty of other restaurants that care about their customers and cater to their satisfaction.

I saw the sign and thought it read "Best Omelets". Then I thought to myself "wow that's a bold proclamation". So my wife and I decided to give it a try. If the name of the business was actually "Best Omelettes", they would have been sadly mistaken. If they would've named the business "ehhh, that wasn't the worst omelet I ever had but far from a good omelets ". That would be a more accurate name.

Fancy Breakfast Thursday was at Gest Omelets. I'm still wondering how you pronounce the name. Is it pronounced like "guest" or like "jest" or another way? Either way, the menu said that they were the "world's best omelettes" and sadly I will disagree. In total, the breakfast was good and filling but I would have preferred an omelet from another place. The omelets are served three different ways: crepe-style, two egg or three egg. The crepe-style is thinner and is served with hash browns, lettuce and sauce. The two or three egg omelets are just served with lettuce and sauce. You may choose from several specialty omelets or you may build your own. There are several ingredients and cheeses to choose from. In addition, several sauces are available including, Bearnaise, mushroom, and rancharito. I chose the Crepe Combo which is where you can choose two crepe-style specialty omelets. I chose the Popeye and the Greek. The Greek Omelet comes with ground beef, feta, olives and green onions and the mushroom sauce. The Popeye is served with spinach, mushrooms and jack cheese with the Bearnaise sauce. The omelets were large and cooked well. The Popeye had A LOT of (frozen) spinach in it and was pretty good, but way too much spinach. The Greek was ok but was pretty bland. Eventually, I just chopped up both omelets with the hash browns, drizzled them with the Bearnaise and Mushroom sauces, sprinkled some Frank's Red Hot on it and mixed it all up. It was actually much better this way as a Hot Bernieshroom Greek Omelet explosion. The service was good. The waitress was nice and was fairly attentive. The coffee is served in a carafe on the table so you don't have to wait for refills. The decor was a pretty standard diner-type atmosphere. One wall is all mirrors which makes it look bigger than it is. The restaurant seemed pretty clean but was nothing fancy. The reason for the three stars is that the omelets lacked a cohesion of flavor. It was decent but the omelets could have had a lot more flavor and could have been presented in a better way. The servings are large, but I would prefer an omelet prepared by a chef with the right balance of ingredients and sauce. Definitely an interesting experience, but I don't know if I'll return.

I had a western omelette with rye toast. The eggs were bland and filler ingredients were plentiful but with little taste. Their rye toast was probably one of the worst tasting breads I have ever had. As I write this I'm wondering why I gave them 2 stars but the waitress was nice and maybe the waffles are good? Anyway, I would not recommend this place unless but it's better than McDonald's next door.

Five stars because their omelets are the bees knees, the bears honey, the anteaters ant hill. Real good

I've been here twice now. Both times the place was almost full but we were seated quickly. First visit the server was attentive. Second visit we waited ten minutes after being seated for a waitress to come over. First time I ordered ham and cheese omelette. Nothing remarkable, but I think it's pretty hard to mess that one up, especially since omelettes are their specialty. Second visit I had the Crepe Combo. I ordered one sweet and one savory. Good flavors, satisfying portion, but again, not remarkable.
I cannot remember who recommended we try Gest, but I probably will not take their word as Gospel again in the future. The thin crepe-y omelets were strange to me, and the lettuce underneath really threw me for a loop. The restaurant was packed (we went on a weekend morning). Coffee carafe at the table was nice for me, but Ken, who doesn't drink coffee, sat with an empty water glass for most of our time there.

Omelets - crepe style. Sounds gross, it's not. This is a classic blue-color Detroit area joint. Great food, great prices, friendly staff. This downriver kid is thankful for the frost delay on his morning golf round and a brother that used to work in the area. We did breakfast up right.

The portions are sized well. The staff and servers are very friendly and everyone there before us seemed to be regulars on this Sunday morning. I had the crepe-style omelette with farmers cheese and strawberries on top. It seems a little weird ordering eggs with sweet ingredients but it was delicious! My fiance ordered a large make-your-own omelette but was pretty disappointed when it came out and the ingredients inside were uncooked. Raw mushrooms, raw green onions.

It's always nice to have those mom and pop restaurants around. You know, the ones that sell good dinner and great breakfasts... This is definitely one of those places. Nice, small, quiet, and homey with service that makes everyone feel like they know everyone. You get nice large portions and everything comes hot.

Went for breakfast about a month ago. Outside of the restaurant looks "ok", inside looks like it hasn't been updated since 1947. Carpet, booths, tables, pretty much everything looks old and really dirty. For that reason alone I probably wouldn't have ever returned, but there's more. I ordered an egg white omelette with spinach, tomato, mushroom, and light feta and also a side of turkey sausage. The eggs come out very fluffy and about an inch thick, a little too thick for my liking. The vegetables and cheese are simply placed directly onto the plate and then this thick egg patty thing is plopped on top. It was a little difficult to try and get vegetables and egg in one bite. Not a fan of this omelette design. The spinach that they use in the omelette seems to be the frozen kind, it was wilted and dry and clumped together, in other words, it was gross. I asked for light feta and got a lot more than what I consider "light", but no biggie, I can deal with that. The turkey sausage was pretty good, they did a great job opening the package it comes in and warming it up. The waitstaff seems to be pretty friendly. I highly doubt I will ever try this place again.

We have been going to Gest for over 15 years and we love it. Now, we haven't been on a busy weekend in quite some time but when we have the occasional day off mid-week, it is a favorite breakfast stop. They leave a carafe of coffee on your table which is always a plus for me. The omelettes are delicious. I have never eaten anything else at Gest. I usually get the Polish (kielbasa, mushrooms, onions and cheese) and my husband gets the Deli (cheese and corned beef) and both of those are topped with sour cream sauce. The Farmers omelette was my previous favorite and is also very good. Crepe style is plenty big enough and comes with hash browns, although they offer medium and large (previously 2 or 3 egg) as well. These omelettes don't taste like the ones you get at the coney island down the street - but they are excellent. Lettuce comes on the side, which I ignore, and they are topped with a sauce which is a nice touch. Breakfast for two with coffee is about 15 -16 dollars with the crepe-style sized omelettes (bring cash - there is a small surcharge for credit or debit cards).

Gest Omelettes in Redford is a local breakfast joint. Don't expect dinner. Three egg omelettes are pretty large. For some reason, they serve their omelettes on a bed of shredded lettuce which I find slightly strange but no big deal. I've tried many of the omelettes, I would honestly say the best thing to do is build your own. Some of their combinations are a little off, in my opinion. For example, you order the Spanish omelette and it comes with diced celery on top and the celery is usually raw. Not bad, just strange!! Like I said, build your own is the way to go.

In the past going to Gest Omelettes on a Sunday morning was an endeavour. Usually there is a wait to be seated because its a small place with a huge customer base. When I pulled up today and seen only a couple of cars in the lot my first thought was "Oh oh, somethings not right, or somethings gone wrong." I walked in and seated myself in one of the many available tables. My waitress immediately brought me a menu and asked what I was drinking. I ordered coffee and it was brought to me in a karafe which I love. Now theres a huge breakfast menu to browse from, but of course they are known for their omelettes. They have different sizes to choose from, crepe, small, medium, and large. Believe me folks the large is HUGE! I usually get my favorite the Polish omelette, filled with keilbasa and cheese smothered in a sour creme sauce. This time i differed for a large spinach, mushroom and cheese omelette, covered in an abundant amount of bernaise sauce. Appropriately this omeltte is called the Popeye. It was very good except I wish the shrooms were cooked and not raw. For the most part I enjoyed todays experience at Gest Omlettes. The servers are freindly just a little rough around the edges. There was a couple of small things that bothered me, one being the waitress brought my check with my food and never returned to ask how anything was, or if I needed anything. The other thing was be prepared to pay with cash because they charge .50 cents for a credit or debit card. Regardless of a couple of flaws I will return to my favorite omlette place soon. Oh by the way, by the time I left the resteraunt, they were packed. So much for my paranoia upon arriving here this morning.

Yummy omelettes! Whenever I want a good omelette, I come to this place. I always get the mushroom and swiss cheese omelette crepe style with mushroom sauce. Crepe style comes with hash browns and fills me up. I see a lot of other reviewers do not like the lettuce that comes with the omelettes, but I think that the lettuce goes great with the omelette (maybe I am weird). The lunch selection is decent from what people I have came here with say but I always stick to the omelettes since I believe this is their specialty. I would recommend this place to anyone.

Today we started off 2010's Fancy Breakfast Thursdays with a meal at one of Metro-Detroit's highly recommended breakfast establishments, Gest Omelettes all the way in exotic Redford. Since after breakfast were plans for Ikea shopping it was more or less on the way, or at least not out of it coming from Oak Park. Prior to dining I read many reviews online and even talked to friends who have previously dined here so I was a little excited to see what all the muss and fuss was about. Gest Omelettes has the typical greasy spoon decor. There is an entire wall covered in mirrors much like a fun-house or rec-room of the 1980's. Coffee is served in a decanter per table akin to the style of IHOP. The menu is pretty encompassing featuring many traditional displays of breakfast offerings and a large list of specialty omelets including the Coney Island which sounds pretty meaty with its inclusions of hotdogs and chili. Also to note, the omelets are served in three ways: Crêpe Style, or with 2 or 3 eggs. If you select a specialty omelet substitutions are not allowed but thankfully you can concoct your own customized creation with many fun and tasty items. I decided to design my own omelet with 3 eggs and spinach, mushrooms, and feta cheese. Omelets are also served with a sauce ranging from Rachito and Italian to Mushroom and Bearnaise, and a side of iceberg lettuce and toast. The final product was rather spinachlicious to the point that I didn't think I was ready for that jelly. The mushrooms were fresh and the feta had a nice flavor. I had the Bearnaise sauce since the Mushroom sauce is kind of bland, so sayeth our server. On the tastyometer, I would say it ranked in at a 64.8 (18.2 C for our Canadian friends, eh?). The Bearnaise sauce was nice and tastyish. I added ketchup but then again I add ketchup to everything. I also added the leftover sauce to the side of hashbrowns that I ordered. I probably didn't need them but generally feel that there should be a potato element to a eggy breakfast. The food could have been hotter. Maybe it was all that chilly iceberg on the plate that brought the temperature down? Probably not. Then again, wasn't it an iceberg that did in the Titanic? For value there was a lot of food. Granted, for the same price I could have eaten at the ever uber-tasty Toast in Ferndalé or BBC in Berkles. I don't know if I would return on my own accord. Redford isn't right around the block and the breakfast wasn't anything super special. Though we were privy to a card trick on the way out the door from another patron. I suppose we earned it because that patron was having a business lunch with kept on talking about what sounded like the world's largest story problem. . . something to do with shipping every 60 days but getting paid every 40th day and a train leaving Tacoma and the square root of X. I think the answer was 4 or false. Maybe d) all of the above? Bottom line: if you're looking for a big breakfast in the greater Redford domain, look no further. Come hungry. And if you're paying with a credit card, you'll be charged a $0.50 handling fee.

I will preface this feedback by saying that I typically dislike eggs. Gest Omelette is the only restaurant that I crave an omelette from. They offer a crepe style omelette, a single egg omelette that is always light and fluffy - perfect for someone who doesn't LOVE eggs. The added bonus is that hash browns are included with the crepe style omelettes (2 or 3 egg omelettes do not include hash browns - can be ordered a la carte of course). My boyfriend and I decided to try the 2 crepe combinations. I chose the Vegetarian (veggies, Swiss cheese, topped with Béarnaise sauce) and the Deli (corned beef, Swiss, green onions, topped with a sour cream sauce). Both were awesome - veggies crisp and not overcooked, corned beef is chopped/shredded so it's easy to eat - highly recommend both. The boyfriend ordered the Coney Island (hotdog slices, jack cheese, green onions, topped with chili) and the Greek (ground beef, feta, green onions, topped with mushroom sauce). The Coney was disappointing - the chili tasted like Hormel with some cumin added and the hotdog slices were a little tough - would not recommend. Mustard may have helped. The Greek was very good also, although probably wouldn't order again because the Veggie and Deli are better (and there are others to try!) I love that they garnish their omelettes with lettuce, breaks up the egg. Potatoes and toast are standard - good but nothing exceptional. Have not tried anything beyond omelettes here so can't comment on their other items. Pros: Unique - above and beyond the typical omelette offering; inexpensive - (single crepe omelettes are about $5-$6 - you don't need 2, we just wanted to try several); good service; crepe style omelettes Cons: interior could use some 'sprucing up' - it doesn't bother me at all, but some people might think it looks a bit run down. Some of the waitresses are a little 'rough around the edges' (or look like they could kick your butt in a bar fight), but they always do a great job serving you so it works ;)

Average breakfast joint.

Huge portions and always crowded. Try one of their signature items.

HUGE omelets! It is a diner atmosphere, but the menu is pretty interesting.

The omelets here are amazing. And AS BIG AS YOUR HEAD. Come hungry, is all I'm saying.
