LOVE this place. Great food, especially the tamales and the chips and salsa (which I usually fill up on first, oops), but my husband loves just about everything he's ordered here. We're usually here Saturdays for lunch and have not had an issue with the service.

Los Amigos is very inviting and very festive. Since I'm not from the Portage area, I'm not sure why it moved. I'm glad I called before we went, because if we didn't do it, we wouldn't have known it relocated to its current Westnedge location. The menu is huge and it has some pretty unique items. The menu online doesn't do it justice. My bf's entree was served in a dug out grilled pineapple. I had the Burrito California, which was covered in a cheese sauce. It was so huge and I couldn't finish half of it. I love the grilled steak inside the Burrito California. I think the only problem with a burrito that big is that once you start eating it, everything started to mix together and I couldn't tell what all I was eating after awhile. The service was great. It's definitely a place I'd visit again.

If you are shopping in the Westnedge area and looking to eat authentic Mexican, Los Amigos is about as good as it gets. I personally thought the salsa was great, pureed to a pulp with a slight smokiness and peppery flavor. The bean dip is pretty standard for a Mexican restaurant of this caliber and I am rather surprised another reviewer was so displeased. I opted for a three chicken soft shell taco combination dinner (#7) on the back of the menu served with beans and rice. It was fantastic, as all the ingredients were very fresh with tons of flavor and had a healthy serving of sour cream on the side. I washed it down with a Pacifico, a must if you are looking for a crisp & clean Mexican lager to pair with your meal. The service was some of the best I ever had at a restaurant like this. I believe our server set a Guinness record since we had our meals within three minutes of ordering them; either the staff is clairvoyant or the kitchen is just damn good. It's no secret that most Mexican dishes use the same five basic ingredients that are presented in dozens of different incarnations. Nonetheless, if you are not that hungry and/or in a hurry, you may want to wait to order your entrees until you are ready.

In the mood for Mexican food before we left the area yesterday and this happened to be the first place that caught our eye. The parking lot was full, which is usually a good sign, so we decided to give it a try and were pleased with our choice. Huge menu with lots of choices, and since we were there at lunchtime, we were able to take advantage of their lunch menu ... awesome prices for large portions. The only complaint on food quality from any of us was on the enchiladas - my son thought they had a bit too much sauce on them, but he still cleaned the plate. Service was OK ... we've had better, we've had worse. We didn't see much of our server. He showed up when we needed him, but other than that, he never stopped by to see how our food was, if we were doing OK, etc. We got what we needed from him, but nothing extra. The host who seated us seemed a little put out that he had to take us to a table, and he spent much of our meal seated at a table near ours talking loudly on his cell phone ... not the end of the world, but a little bothersome. All in all, a pleasant experience and if we're back in the Kalamazoo area, we'll stop in again.

They have good food and reasonably priced for what you get. I just don't enjoy going there much because the service is very odd. Sometimes we've gotten a good waiter but more often than not I've had waiters are lingering around talking to other waiters by the bar. It's not my first choice, I'd rather go to Taco Bobs.

It is with great sorrow I have to update this place with only a one star review. As my previous review conveyed, this place had good Mexican food for a good price. That all changed tonight. My wife and I decided to get take-out and Los Amigos won our heart for the night. After calling our order in, giving my name, and being told it will be ready in 15 mins we excitedly headed over to the restaurant at the appropriate time. We walk in and let the host know we called a to go ordered in under my name. He looks confused. After a lot of clueless looks and rushing around he informs me they don't know who took the order and it was, therefore, never put it. Let me say that again, THEY DONT KNOW WHO TOOK THE ORDER AND IT WAS, THEREFORE, NEVER PUT IN! My jaw dropped. This is restaurant 101. You take the order then put it in. WTF!!! At this point I was pissed and frankly didn't want to wait for the food so we decided to go somewhere else. I will not be going back there any time soon as they are obviously unable to take a simple order or keep track of whom is answering the phone. Ugh. Good luck if you venture into this place.

When they first opened at their original location, Los Amigos was good. It has steadily gone down hill since. First of all, if you're looking for REAL Mexican food. Authentic Mexican food, this is NOT the place for you. They very much cater to the "gringo" crowd that likes their Mexican food Americanized. My last visit was met with much the same complaints others have had. Waiting forever for your food, slow/awful service, food is cold once it arrived. They simply don't care anymore. They have expanded to three restaurants (Riviera Maya is the same place with a different name) and are adding a fourth out on Gull Road. Evidently, the demand is high in this town for mediocre food with terrible service. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere.

The refried beans were VERY dry and the salsa did not seem fresh. Informed the waiter, then the cashier but neither seemed to care. The waiter even asked a second time if everything was ok and we again reported the very dry beans and he again just walked away. We have been here before and it was better. Doubt that we will go back.

This was a hard one for me to rate, but the more I thought about it, the easier it was. I took my wife and 18 month old so. Here for dinner. We haven't been to a Mexican restaurant in awhile, so we were excited to try something new. We arrived at about 5pm and the dinner rush had not started yet. Only a few people in the whole place, yet we waited for the host to seat us for a solid 5 minutes. Normally not a big deal, but it wasn't bust at all!!! The host was not very friendly and when I asked for a highchair, he just pointed to the corner where they were stacked up. Out waiter greeted us within minutes. That said, we put a drink order in and it was nearly 10 minutes before we saw home again. At that point brought our chips and salsa and informed us the blender was broken. Considering most of their specialty drinks were blended drinks and took that long to inform us, it was a bit off putting. After sitting for a solid 15 to 20 minted we finally got our order put in and had to ASK for waters as we were never given anything. Food was quick and was decent. By no means authentic, but we didn't expect that. If the service could have been better we prolly would go back at some point, but for now we will go to other places.

Food was awesome. Service was annoying. I came for lunch. The door man was on his cell phone negotiating some big deal with chicken. It took a while for the waiter to help me, but he was a gentlemen. What I thought was irritating was watching all the staff eat lunch talking and make a fiesta out of it. My food though was amazing so I will just come for dinner next time

Came in on Saturday for lunch and ordered the special on the whiteboard,,, when we got the bill we were charged for dinner prices. We were told the specials are for weekdays only. Erase the board then guys! Food was just ok and a side order of sour cream was $2 for a few tablespoons. Will never go back here!!

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Good and reasonable. Not outstanding. I would personally like something a little more authentic. Really good quality.

Host could not even get off the phone long enough to talk to us.
