This review is not based on the food, but the following: We stopped to eat there for the first time ever, but decided to go to the store next door first. This was probably around 8:30 pm on a Thursday evening. Store hours list closing at 10 pm but when we went to go in at 8:57 pm they were closed. Ridiculous and very poor way to run a business!

It's exactly what I expected, and subsequently exactly what I wanted. I came in to make a takeout order just after lunchtime. The restaurant was clean, but unfortunately empty! (you should go there.) The gentleman behind the counter (the owner?) was very nice and took time to explain to me what all was in the "Jim Shoe. I ordered a Gyro and the Jim Shoe, and my order didn't take long at all (5-8 minutes or so.) My Gyro tasted exactly like a Gyro should, and I had a few bites of the delicious meat monster known as the "Jim Shoe." If you work around the area, or you just really appreciate shaved meats, this is definitely a great lunch time spot to hit.

Can't say enough about how cool this place is. I've been looking for a good gyro and sick of the diner style stuff you get elsewhere. This place has Kronos products which is a plus for me. A nice variety of "street" food like gyros, hot dogs, etc for pretty reasonable prices. Place has a fun sandwich shop vibe to it and the owner does a lot of the cooking himself. Very pleasant guy and he's usually around in case you need any questions answered. Best gyros in town for sure.

Being originally from Chicago I had high hopes for the food. The owner/cook was a nice guy. Restaurant was clean and food was brought out quick and hot. I got 5 wings and my daughter got fried shrimp. Both were pretty bad. The chicken was not fully cooked all the way through and the shrimp tasted frozen. The fries were good. I might go back and try the Italian beef or gyro.

I went to Food Street for lunch and had the Gyro Sandwich combo. The restaurant is orderly, clean, and the staff are actively engaging and friendly. The food was very good, the fries are standard shoestring kind, they have Heinz Ketchup available, which is nice to see as it's not the cheapest condiment choice that some other restaurants in the area seem to cheap out on. The Gyro was packed to the top of the pita, the pita itself was fresh and warm, everything was presented very well. The only thing that would have improved upon it would be a touch more onion and a little more tzatziki sauce. The price for what was provided was very fair. I'm looking forward to coming back again.

I came here the day before Christmas (Christmas Eve day, if you will), and it was pretty quiet. I had never been here before, and the guys working were extremely helpful in making a selection. I was really craving a gyro, and ordered one of those. The boifran ordered a Gym Shoe sandwich, after being talked into it by the staff. He did not regret his choice one bit! My gyro was also very, very tasty. Price quality balance is on point. We will definitely be back.

I don't think I have ever been treated as nice and felt so welcomed. The jim shoe is the best!! I go to Chicago just for this sandwich and now I can get it at home. Very clean, and owner is awesome!!! Try this restaurant out you won't be disappointed.

I've been wanting to check this place out after reading the positive reviews. It has definitely earned the good buzz. I had the Jim Shoe sandwich and it was excellent. Based on the tastiness of the tzatziki sauce and the corned beef, roast beef and gyro meats involved I would venture to say any of the sandwiches would be winners. Really great place to get a gyro or Italian beef sandwich.

I noticed this place a couple of weeks ago and decided that I needed to try it for lunch some time. I finally made the trek in and ordered the Jim Shoe & fries. The Jim Shoe is Roast Beef, Corned Beef, and Gyro meat along with an assortment of grilled veggies. It sounded amazing and it surely didn't disappoint. The sandwich was extremely flavorful and left me wanting more. The only reason it doesn't get a 5-star rating is the fries. They were just so-so. My suggestion to them would be to make your own fries instead of the frozen ones. Those are so much better. If you could combine Food Street's sandwiches with Five Guys' fries, that would be the perfect combination.

I live in Portage and was looking for a new place to have lunch. After combing through yelp for something new, I saw this place with it's 5 star rating. Since I love a good philly, I decided to make the order. I had the Philly cheese steak. It came with mushrooms, peppers, and tomato. I asked for no onion and got it that way. I was very pleased. The meat was juicy and the bun was fresh. My sister-in-law got the gyro and my buddy got the gyro salad. Both said their meals were "really good!" Both the gyro and my philly came with fries which were kind of soggy. That may have happened while in transit home as it was a to go order. I also ordered a pizza puff. It was ok for a couple bites but didn't really care for it by the end. It's almost like a deep fried hot pocket. The owner/manager whom waited on my was very polite and nice to converse with. After it all I will definitely be heading back there. It was very tasty and the service was excellent.

We order delivery frequently from this company. The service is amazing and the owner has called us back a couple of times to make sure we were pleased with the service. We order from them about one to two times a week. The food is to die for! The italian sandwiches and cheesesteak are wonderful and perfectly sate the pregnancy cravings for Chicago over here!

I walked in here having no idea what to expect - it's a pretty secluded place and figured it would just be average, greasy food. Thankfully I stood corrected, because while some of the food is somewhat greasy, it more than makes up for it in taste. Everything tastes high-quality - I was expecting everything to taste like it came out of a freezer and thrown in a deep fryer, but everything here just tastes excellent. Unlike a lot of places that have fries, they don't try to make up in grease and crisp for what they can't in taste. Granted I've only had their Gyro, but every time I went it was delicious. I recommend eating it inside, it's nice and quiet.

Being from Chicagoland, I've long since given up on finding a "real" beef sandwich in the kalamazoo area. A friendly conversation with the owner(who also prepared our meal) revealed he has all the goodies shipped from the big city, including proper bread and giardiniera! Alas, there is hope! A few min later my perfect beef was in front of me. Don't forget to have them dip the bun! My date also had a beef but later went and said the gyros were spot on as well. Great service, authentic food. WILL return soon.

I've passed this place a few times in the past, meaning to swing by some day. Well, today was that day! I must say, the food I got was EXCELLENT!!! I ordered the Jim Shoe sandwich with fries and a drink to-go, as I just live a few minutes away. The smell coming from the box on the short drive home almost drove me crazy. I had a few fries, and yes as others pointed out, they are on the soggy side, but I'm ok with that, they weren't awful. The sandwich though, was amazing! I couldn't believe how good it was actually. The veggies were crunchy, the bread soft, the meat was perfectly cooked. It's been a while since I've had something that good. I will definitely be stopping back to try something else!

The gyro was one of the best I have ever had! A lot of dinner for the money, and the owner was very friendly! He recommended that I try the Philly on my next visit...I will definitely go back!!!!!

Only real gyro in town... Not sure about the rest but as s Chicago native that's all I'm there for. The fries are great as well.

Owner is awesome!!! Extremely caring!!! You have to try the Jimmyshoe, it's way over the top. Maybe have a veggie burger available so I can bring my wife and come more often!!

Very friendly people. The food was awesome. Spent $30 for 1 gyro meal, 1 chicken cheese steak meal, 1 hamburger kids meal, and a 5 piece chicken strips.

Just tried this place for the first time. Owner/cook was quick to greet us and explain the menu...nice to not feel awkward on a first visit! We both had the gyros......and they were hot, fresh, and delicious!! Portions are over the top, fries were crispy and yummy....definitely will be back. This restaurant deserves your business.
