I've had Thai food across the United Stares ... The people are pleasant, the price is reasonable and the food was awesome. I had the Pad Prik with Beef ... Wonderful !! If you have the means :-) I totally recommend it.

This was the worst Thai food I have ever eaten! My husband and I decided to stop by for his birthday dinner. We ordered drunken noodles, pad thai, and pad se'eh. The sauces were too corn starchy. Each dish had a freezer burn taste to it and the noodles were over cooked. The vegetables were soggy and slimy. I could not have been more disappointed. It was so bad that I couldn't eat more then a couple bites. We spent $40 and ate nothing. What a waste.

The food is great! The menu is simple to read and understand. The staff is quick to greet and are extremely friendly.

Worst food I've ever had. Overcooked, slimy food with store bought sauce dumped over top and stir fried with frozen vegetables. Bean sprouts were slimy dark brown. Thai iced tea was watery. Noodles inedible. Took a couple bites and left everything else. What a waste of time and money.

Did not like this place at all. Not the best service or the best food. Very untraditional even our server of Thai origin mentioned that he does not eat any of the food at home and that it is Americanized. Probably the biggest disappointment. Not much flavor to the food.

I just had lunch at A Thai Cafe and was pleasantly surprised. I have driven by it since it opened and never tried it because it is very "bare bones". But the food was good, if you can over look that. It is clean but plain. I hope more people eat here, since It was Monday at 1:30 and we were the only diners. We started with the summer rolls, that were filled with crispy vegetables with a good tangy peanut sauce. We both had chicken pad thai, it was good, but not much of a sauce on it. I wish I kept the peanut sauce that was leftover from the rolls. I did order it hot, it had just the right heat. I gave it 4 stars because this was good food for Portage and I happy we have it. I have had better in other cities though. The Pad Thai grew on me the more I ate it when I stopped comparing the dish to my favorites at other restaurant. I will be back soon to try the Curry's. I hope more people try it. You will enjoy the food.

Great food for sure! Had the curry pad tai, sesame chicken, and pad tai. Good service, clean, and would go back again for sure. Lots of options to choose from. I recommend the Thai sweet tea. Yum

Monday it says open but they are close. No sign indicating why it's closed... Dumb here pics to proof

Fast and pleasant service. Food is delicious. We found this along the way driving from Chicago to Detroit and will add this to our list to eat at again. Good Thai is hard to find, and this definitely fits the bill.

I use to go here all the time but sadly the food has declined. The service has always been good. Food comes out pretty quick. Very nice owners.

Five stars because of the pho. This is currently the ONLY PLACE in Kalamazoo to get pho. I was a little hesitant to try it. It is, after all, a Vietnamese rather than Thai dish, and the picture they have in the menu looks absolutely nothing like pho. The picture lies. It's totally pho. I thought it was pretty much on par with the standard pho shops that litter Northern California and was impressed. I come here often with coworkers, and the service is always friendly, the place is always clean, and everyone enjoys their food (even when they get something besides pho).

What I like: Great price. A served lunch for two for about $20. Excellent flavor. My "go to" is Chicken Pad Thai because I have the greatest basis for comparison. At many Thai restaurants this dish is less flavorful when ordered mild. It is very tasty even when served mild and a medium spice picks up the flavor even more. Other dishes have also been consistently good especially those with a peanut sauce. There is a homemade lemonade drink I'd also highly recommend. It's an unexpected sweet treat that happens to be a part of the beverage menu. What I don't like. The soup that comes with the lunch special tastes bad. I have yet to bring anyone with me who believes differently. There is no alternate available even at an up charge. You get the soup as part of the lunch deal but I'd prefer they leave it in the pot. Only one other critique. At times the place feels a little understaffed during busy periods and ordering, water refills or getting the check require a bit of extra prompting. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Today was our first time in The Thai Cafe and I wasn't very impressed with the food. The waitress was nice and answered all our questions best she could. It was hard to choose for our kids but we chose the Bangkok fried rice which was pretty good. My husband ordered the pad Thai in curry sauce and I ordered the normal pad Thai but spicy. Our original waitress was busy so another waiter helped us by bringing our food. This is where my disappointment started... The waiter brought the Bangkok fried rice but didn't bring plates until we asked for it and my pad Thai wasn't spicy and had to be sent back. The pad Thai was real sweet and sour (basically the only taste I got). I would probably go back but I wouldn't order the pad Thai again... Like is mentioned earlier that the Bangkok fried rice was pretty good so I'd probably go for that in the future.

Chicken Pad Thai. I ordered their standard spice level. Place is quiet and clean. Ordering was easy. Overall I was disapointed. It seemed to be made fine. It tasted ok, not bad. It was a large container of egg nodles, maybe 2 eggs scrambled into pieces, some bean sprouts, and a white onion slices, and chicken. Egg noodles, egg, and onions are three of the cheapest ingredients. For what I got and the expertise in making it seemed like it was stupidly overpriced. The taste was not worth ever getting it again. Also got the Thai Iced Tea. Again overpriced and defintely won't order again, but it was ok. Taste like an iced tea float after the ice cream melted and then it was re-cooled and had some ice. I didn't finish it, but it wasn't bad.

Yet another delicious meal. Went for dinner this time with my mother and brother. I tried their Pad Pak with chicken. My brother had their sweet and sour chicken and my mother had sesame chicken. We each shared. Since the sesame chicken is breaded with corn starch my brother who has celiac could eat it. It kept its crunch so well. The pad pak was so good and so was the sweet and sour chicken. I have yet to have any thing there that I dislike. Everything is worth having at least twice.

I frequent this establishment on a regular basis. The food is good. The pho is good for southwest Michigan. There is no other place that serves this. The curry fried rice is good. Mild recomended for those who cant take spice. Not a lot of people like pineapple in their fried rice but the combination is actually pretty good, a little bit of sweet with spicy. The pad prik is good and flavorful. The bankok fried rice is good. My kid #2 is picky and he devoured it. It can get pretty busy during lunch time so I advise going before or after. Never been there during dinner time.

Great food, great service and always quick! My favorite is the Chicken Massaman curry.

The environment is laid back but a little too laid back. I've been in several times and more so than not there is a young toddler running around often unsupervised. I have had to pull him away from the front door a couple times for fear he was leaving or going to pinch his fingers in the door. I also watched him play with the clean dishes stacked to serve people only to have them taken away and put back on the clean dishes. The food however is very good. I really enjoy their Tom Kha soup. The charge too much for a small side of rice and beverage refills are not free. That is a little off putting. The bill kind of gets nickle and dimed to a pricey meal. Worth trying as long as you don't mind babysitting while they make your food.

Best Thai restaurant in the Kalamazoo area. When you order your food traditional and traditional means hot, it's actually hot. Sure, it'll make you sweat a bit, but the heat doesn't overpower all the other, more subtle flavors in the dish. It takes someone with talent and experience to do heat properly and A Thai Cafe has yet to disappoint. That said, heat isn't a signature of all Thai food and those dishes that aren't traditionally spicy are just as complex in flavor and well done. I start my meal with a summer roll and it is always fresh tasting. I've never had the Pad Thai, but a Thai restaurant shouldn't be judged based on Pad Thai alone. I've had several of the curries, several times each. All are excellent and all were excellent every time I had them; consistent quality is a better measure than a single dish. The staff is friendly and helpful. Unlike corporate American restaurants (and those that attempt to emulate corporate America), the manager doesn't feel the need to stop by your table just to see how things are going. Your water or waitress takes perfectly good care of you at A Thai Cafe. Finally, the price. Tough to complain about the prices so I won't. Given the portion size and the quality of the food, A Thai Cafe is VERY reasonably priced.

I loved the Thai green tea. It's so good. I've been craving it ever since. The masaman curry was the best dish I tried. The pad thai was also very good. I got chicken on the masaman and shrimp on the pad thai and I felt those were good combinations.

Best Asian food on S. Westnedge....no need to drive to Mattawan anymore...at least not as much.

I was surprised. Very decent Thai food. The yellow curry is very tasty! I think it's called gaeng garee. I liked the Thai red bull. What ever you do, don't sit near the door on a cold day. That was not pleasant. The servers were nice and the lunch had pretty fast service.
(4)Sam S.
I'd miss it if I didn't go to Sam's Club across the way (that's how I spotted it). Thought it was a coffee/tea/snacks place as it looks really small, but looked online and had to try it. Yummy, tasted almost 100% authentic. Good service. Def will return.

I thought the server was very friendly (female) and she offered her opinion on the dishes. I went with the Pho and had the appetizer platter. The Pho was pretty good - but you wouldn't expect Vietnamese Pho to be "incredible" at a Thai Restaurant in Portage MI - still, pretty good. The appetizer platter was very good - the spicy mustard sauce they serve with it is the bomb. They have only been open a week (I am sure the reviews on 3/7 and 3/6 are friends or family), so I was ready to give them a pass on service, but it was good. The place was clean with bright lighting - that helps. Support our local restaurants in Portage or we are going to be stuck with boring chains!!!! I will definitely go back, next time I will probably try the Pad Thai or some other traditional Thai dish instead of the Pho.

Surprised by the reviews. Service was poor. Soup of the day not worth a try. The waitress failed to get instructions right. She was not pleasant either. Food was alright. Overall they need a lot more finesse.

I first ate at A Thai Café just days after they opened and then again a couple of months later. Both times I enjoyed the food enough to keep me interested. The first time I went I got the eggplant curry with fried tofu dish which was delicious and the second time I got the curry pad thai with fried tofu which was also delicious! I've had their Crab Rangoon appetizer and their mango sticky rice dessert. The crab Rangoon are fresh made at the restaurant, no pre made frozen rangoons here. I personally was not a fan of the mango sticky rice due to the mango's not tasting ripe. The prices are awesome for the amount of food you receive. Depending on how much you consume, I always leave with a second meal worth of leftovers. The second time I went I noticed how much they had updated the décor of the facility. They obviously are reinvesting their income into the restaurant for décor improvements! This place is delicious and the staff are super friendly. Also, the food comes pretty quick so it would make for a great lunch date spot.

Wow! I really liked the food, service was great and place seemed very clean! We went for lunch and the dining room was 3/4 full at all times. No problems with food or waiting. Decor is strip mall, but that is ok. No alcohal, so dinner might be good as take out. The menu had may optins that I would like to try and i will!

We just left the restaurant after having lunch and we are fairly unsatisfied. The dishes we ordered were all really oily. The soup broth was okay but there was so little chicken it wasn't worth it. Not only was the food average but the service was terrible. The kid who served our table hardly spoke and when he did it was so soft we could hardly hear. We asked for brown rice with our dishes and did not get it. When we pointed it out he just shrugged. Not sure if he doesn't speak English or just doesn't care. Giving them 2 stars since the food was edible and on time.

Finally a real Thai restaurant in portage! Great authentic flavors as good as Bangkok flavor or Thai cuisine. Really recommend it
(5)Kari C.
Came here for lunch, it was great! Had the 3 flavor noodle which was ok- a tad strange but I'd definitely come back and try another dish. We had summer rolls for an appetizer which were good and the peanut dipping sauce was super delicious.
(4)Jason C.
Excellent Pad Thai (lame right?). There's not much to say about Pad Thai...unless you screw it up. Which they didn't. I recommend it.
(4)Scott S.
I went here for dinner alone since my wife doesn't like thai food. I asked the waiter for a recommendation for dinner. He suggested the peanut curry noodles which were very good, and perfectly spicy. The waiter was very good and helpful. Would definately go back if I am in the area.

Best Thai food in Kalamazoo, hands down! The decor isn't much to look at, but the food is excellent. The Gaeng Garee is what I ordered and it was just perfect (and significantly less expensive than the Thai place on Drake Road). Also get the coconut ice cream for dessert, super good!

So glad I found this place. Apparently it only opened last week. Food was great, very authentic. Will definitely go back - no more driving need from Portage to Bangkok flavor to get thai food.
