YUM! I've been coming to the Bangkok Star since I was 18 and 13 years later - this place still rocks!! I stick with the menu item NS9 Chicken with Medium Spice and Crispy Wonton as an appetizer. Always a great value and the dinner portion is plenty for 2 people - just make sure to order extra rice. Happy eating!

The spring rolls here are very special - have had Thai springs rolls at nearly every Thai restaurant that I've ever dined and these are in a different league than all of them. I have dreams about the Steak Pad Ped. I order this extra hot (don't do this at OTHER Thai restaurants!!) and I soak up every drop of the coconut-curry sauce with the rice. Add a Thai iced tea and this is about the best meal I can imagine - ANYWHERE, not just in Port Huron area. Why am I not here every day?!! My wife usually gets the carrot salad (greatness in it's own right) and Pad Thai (equally great version), but the last time we went she got the veggie fried rice. I tried to talk her out of it (because she shares!), but I'll be damned if it wasn't GREAT !! Very unique taste - hard to place the spices, which are subtle but add to a perfect rice, with enough vegetables that you can have it as a meal.

Great food with authentic taste. Chicken satay and vegetable curry were excellent. The portion size of the vegetable curry could have been a little more. I'm excited to return to try the other menu items.

We may have caught them on an off night, but they may be relying on being the only Thai option in the area. While the spring rolls were good, their interpretation of Pad See Ew was unique and not in a great way. The magic of the typical preparation is the balance between the sweet soy and the smokiness of a good sear. In this case, it was all sweet and salt also prepared with a this rice noodle instead of the broader variety, which were improperly cooked. Also, they don't offer tofu or a vegetarian option and actually charged more for subbing veggies in for the protein and a lame amount at that. Again, a unique method of service. We may be back, but with much trepidation.

I don't know how authentic it is since I've only had Thai one other time but it is good. Staff is very helpful when helping you pick a spice level - medium is pretty hot. The spring rolls are so yummy I always order an extra to take home. Entrees are small portions though & the staff isn't very attentive.

I've never concentrated so hard while eating at a restaurant because I was trying to decide how many stars to give them. I was wavering between 2 and 4. I know that's a big difference but the fact is that it's not that the flavor is bad, it's that it's just... off... They've got the right profile but it's either too salty, too sweet, too sour, too... too something. As others have said, their portions are pretty small generally but the pad se-ewew (that's what it says in their menu) was quite large. The tomyum would have been better if it was in a regular bowl rather than what it is traditionally served in (a bundt pan looking pot). The fire they attempted to light under the pot lasted all of 2 minutes and was out by the time any of the other dishes arrived. With all of that said, I appreciate that the restaurant is unpretentious and unpresumptious. It's good enough for the town it's in. Not that I've got anything against Port Huron, but it doesn't strike me as a place with a place where the best chefs would go. Oh, and the food took a little longer than I expected, and the servers were not super attentive. But once again, it's fine. It's A-OK.

I've been coming here for years, and like it a lot. Just a step behind Great Wall in many arenas (speed, specifically), this is a really good sit-down asian restaurant for the area. The guy who says you've gotta make your point if you want a hot dish isn't lying. That's the case in most of the US outside of places that specialize in hot dishes, but it's worth making that case. The atmosphere is comfortable, the wait staff is generally on the ball and the price is right.

This is one of my favorite Thai food places ever! It is family owned and tastes that way. Their spring rolls are amazing and so is there Pad Thai! I have been going here for over 8 years and I can help but get the Pad Thai! It's so good. Highly recommend restaurant if you are looking for Thai food in Port Huron.

I am more than willing to give most Thai restaurants a try, even in a small town like Port Huron. (The best Thai I've ever had was in Williamsport, PA. Which is almost in the middle of nowhere.) I was looking forward to dining at Bangkok Star. Who knows. Their quality may be better than the Thai restaurants in Chicago. Unfortunately, that was not the case. While the menu features many authentic Thai dishes, from Tom Yum to Pad See Eew to Pad Kra Pao, the flavors were not even close to the "real deal". My boyfriend had the Pad Kra Pao and his grandfather had the Cashew Chicken. The sauces were almost identical. My vegetable noodle dish was simply stir-fried rice noodles with mixed vegetables. Maybe the flavors were slightly reminiscent of Thai cuisine, but not really. Overall, our dishes lacked freshness and vibrancy that are characteristic of Thai cuisine. I give them props for having a separate section for vegetarian dishes (only four dishes, but surely you can ask for other entrees without meat) and a section for non-spicy dishes. My boyfriend's grandfather is sensitive to spicy food, so it was convenient for them to list the non-spicy dishes. Speaking of which, be wary of asking for your dish "extra spicy". My noodle dish made extra spicy was overwhelmingly spicy. Don't get me wrong. I thrive on spicy foods, but it was almost overkill. Bangkok Star is perhaps one of the worst Thai restaurants I've been to. Although, my boyfriend and I had a discussion later that night. It may not be great Thai food, but it's decent food. I would not recommend coming here if you know a thing or two about Thai cuisine, but if you are in Port Huron and looking to try something new, then Bangkok Star may be a fair option. Update: I added a star because I did not write this review in context. For a small town non-Chinese restaurant, the food is above average and the prices are moderate. Three stars.

One of the few if only non-chain ethnic restaurants in the Port Huron area. They make a good spring roll and actually know how to cook tofu. If you want something spicy you really have to make your point when ordering because Port Huron has a very bland pallet. A good choice for veggies from out of town to get a good meal cheap.

Take note Yelpers: Never eat asian food in a small town unless it is endorsed by a city slicker. Bangkok Star is now endorsed. Excellent authentic Thai food in a small town. In addition, it is unbelievably cheap. I had the basil rice with chicken, and my friend had Bangkok chicken. Both entrees came with soup. The bill, with a generous tip was $15. I will be back!

I've been to many thai places in the country and this is still my favorite. I usually order the vegetable fried rice or one of the curries. You HAVE to order a thai iced tea, the best I've ever had! Also get an appetizer I would kill for a crispy wonton (chicken and onion in a spring roll wrapper) or spring rolls. They are delicious and get better when you dip them in the sauce! It's been a really long time since I've gone where they've done it, but they used to give this amazingly unique and delicious soup for free. I don't know if it was a lunch or dinner thing but I miss it.

Meh. I've experienced better, and at this restaurant too. This one kinda breaks my heart. Here is my old review: Owners are cool. Spring rolls are AWESOME. Portions are SKIMPY especially compared to other Thai restaurants. Presentation is not always great. Competition is far away otherwise this place would be in real trouble. Shrimp chips are frequently unavailable. Go during lunch its a better value. Unfortunately from there its gotten worse. Change of ownership / management. Here is my new review: Bad news. This place is sinking, last time I was in it was stinking. Then some of the food smelled like sewage, in fact when I asked my room mate to smell one of the dishes, it literally activated his gag reflex. It was horrendous. if you feel like rolling the dice you may still get a decent dish, or you might get a veggie dish that smells like sewage or maybe a beef dish featuring gray beef. Spring Rolls are still solid. My advice pick up 6 spring rolls and go somewhere else to get an entree, almost anywhere else will be more satisfying. The only reason they get more than one star is because of the excellent spring rolls, and honestly I question the cleanliness at this point to the extent that I may never go back. Bummer for desperate Port Huronites seeking Thai deliciousness, for we used to be able to find it here. Tsk Tsk.

Ate here again for lunch. It looks like SOME of the people of Port Huron have figured out that this can be a nice place to go on their lunch break (as this place was fairly busy on a Thursday around noon). Had their "spring roll" again as an appetizer. It LITERALLY is the "Best" spring roll that I've eaten at ANY Thai restaurant that I've been to (and I've been to over 10 different Thai places throughout the greater Metro Detroit Area). I'm not sure if it is the actual spring roll itself that is so good, or perhaps it is the dipping sauce that really makes it all come together. It seems like every Thai place serves up a slightly different sauce for their spring roll... but, the Bangkok Star's is the TOPS in my book. Sooooo tasty!! Ya, the Bangkok Star is really only a "three star" kind of place (sometimes, just barely that), but because it is the ONLY Thai place around (perhaps, even in ALL of St. Clair County) I'll give 'em that extra star. I'm glad that Port Huron has this little gem of a place. I know that I'll continue to eat here... perhaps you should give it a try sometime too?

The food is great! Awesome and authentic Thai food. Will cook to order. The atmosphere is not so good. Every time I eat there I just keep thinking about how it could be improved. How the food would just taste better with some better paint. For P-town it is a keeper. Get it to go.

Where else are you going to go for Thai food in Port Huron, or decent Asian food in general? Bangkok Star of course. The Pad Thai is plentiful. The yum yai salad is very light and refreshing. The satay and peanut sauce is always well made. My only complaint is that they don't appear to use actual fresh Thai chilies, and instead use a dried house spice mix, making all the dishes a little one-dimensional, i.e., if you want it hotter they simply use more spice mix in the dish. Some of the other dishes may be a little light on veggies and meat making them a little on the soupy side. But all the flavors are robust, and the cooking techniques are spot on. It gets a little pricy for us because we order a la carte, and tend to buy many items, but you can definitely feed three people on one order of Pad Thai for $7 so in that regard it can be a great deal.

There is much better thai food out there, though not in Port Huron since it's the only thai restaurant in the area. The dishes were drowning in heavy, cornstarch thickened sauce. I couldn't see the noodles of my noodle dish when it came to the table there was so much sauce. And food seemed to be spiced with only dried red pepper flakes. If you wanted it very spicy, as my dining companion asked, it just had a whole lot more flakes in the sauce. It isn't restaurant quality fare to me. Redeeming qualities - really yummy thai iced tea and crispy wonton appetizers which are made in house.
