I must say that I'm definitely with Liz W. & Janis C. right on spot with their reviews today! I feel badly becauseI had hoped to write a great review full of nostalgia and wonderful food and good drama! I regret to have to write this review today because I will always be truthful and I wanted this to still be one of my favorite places to visit with my daughter. We have so many wonderful meories at Sweet Afton's! Well first of all, when we entered the Tea Room, it was almost empty. My daughter was parking the car and so I entered first. As I waited I looked at some of the tea cups & saucers near the window and I looked over the "souvenir items"! I was stunned. The price for four little magnets was over the top, @ $9.95! Then I thought I'd buy a birthday card for my friend in Scotland!. They had the cutest cards with teacups on them and a real tea bag stuck into the cup rim! They were so darling ...but they only had Christmas holiday cards! They weren't even marked down or discounted in any way!! Yes, this was January 18, Christmas had been a month long gone and they didn't even have one regular card. From my memories of taking my daughters there when they were younger, the staff seemed more engaging with the customers to help make each experience a special memory. Well they were engaging all right....but mostly with each other! Our waitress was pretty much consumed with another lady customer, and we found out that this was because the woman was a "regular"! Many of the employees Were kind of communicating back & forth with their "regular" customer.....whom they also gave a free container full of their soup for her to take home "on the house"! Well, goodness.if you're going to give one customer "free" soup, it's very hard for the customers who witness this, when we had to pay about $5.00 each for a small cup of the same soup! By the way, we had to even send our soup back because it was cold! We did get it back ....but I'm just saying! Spending time with my daughter is always a fun & wonderful thing to do! But when you go back to recapture some of those memories, its a bit sad when things aren't as they once were. One last thing I'd like to add, is that I'm a bit finicky when it comes to cleanliness and every seat cushion, at the table we were assigned, was full of stains and dirty, dingy looking! I really didn't want to ruin it for my daughter's sake, but I thought to myself "the place is about 87% empty and they sat us at these dirty chairs?? Well....maybe they're all like this now?

It was always a tradition for my mom and I do go here after my first day or school or a day off. She tried to start the tradition with my daughter who is almost 4 years old. My mom took my daughter about a month ago and my daughter loved it. My mom went to take my daughter today and was turned away. There were two tables of customers and plenty of open tables, which of course led my daughter to ask, why can't we eat here, there's room...Not very friendly to young children. Time Well Spend in Hartland was much more pleasant. So much for carrying on a tradition! I'll drive to Hartland from Plymouth instead I guess. I was considering using it to host my daughter's 4th birthday in January, but looks like I'll take my business elsewhere!

Held my daughter's 10th birthday party here. It was adorable! They had a special "High Tea" for the young girls with their own pots of tea, special shapes of cheese and crackers, etc etc. The girls all loved it and had a wonderful time. The owners came by and introduced themselves (very friendly people).

I visited this adorable tea room a while back with one of my best friends. She lives about an hour away now, so we set up food dates every now and then to catch up. This time, we went for lunch. It lived up to my expectations, with a variety of food options for main course and dessert. I had the shepherd's pie, and was thoroughly pleased. We got an amazing custard for dessert to pair with our lady gray black tea. I certainly would like to go back soon, but will wait for a friend date, as my husband unfortunately doesn't share my affinity for dining at tea rooms.

Many years ago, my mom mentioned wanting to take me to a tea room, but by the time we got around to it, that one had closed. I had that in mind when she & my sister asked what I wanted to do for my birthday this year. Having only tv and movies as a reference for what high tea should be, I didn't really know what to expect. And I also didn't realize that it is the new "thing" to do with little girls. When we got there, there was, indeed, a table full of little girls, all dressed up in their finery. They were adorable and very well-behaved. But there was also a large party of women on the other side of the room, and they were very loud, so that was unpleasant. I loved the decor -- teapots and other fancy knicknacks on high shelves, an old buffet, and my favorite, chandeliers made out of teacups! I thought the menu offered a great deal of choices -- things you don't get everywhere else. Traditional British fare like shepherd's pie, beef wellington & chicken pot pie. But, we were there for High Tea, so High Tea is what we had. We liked that each of us got a full pot of tea -- in different teapots -- to ourselves. These were not the little personal sized pots, but the size you'd serve for several people. Their choices were so many that it was hard to choose! But, I would hazard a guess that they use tea bags rather than loose tea. The High Tea fare seemed rather redundant: sandwiches and scones and quiche and tarts (served on the traditional tiered platter!), but it was quite good. And the Devonshire cream and lemon curd are not to be missed. However, at $17.95/person, it was rather overpriced; it was nothing you couldn't make at home for a lot less. But, as I explained to my mom when she said that, you're paying for the ambiance. Our waitress was very good, and very apologetic for the fact that it was taking a long time for our order to be brought out. But, I think that in a place like that that's trying to show the elegance of the traditional High Tea and British fare, it would've been appropriate for the staff to be dressed more in that style. If I return to Sweet Afton Tea Room, I will probably try some of their other offerings.

We were here a couple weeks back for my grandma's birthday. It's more for an experience than a place I would visit often. My grandma loved it! They have a large tea selection and the food is just filling enough. Good place to experience something new.... now if only the workers all talked with British accents.

Had a great time visiting for high tea. The hostess explained each course to us and she was very attentive, making sure we had enough tea at all times. I loved the tea-themed decorations, especially the chandelier made from cups and saucers. This would be a great place for a baby or bridal shower!

This past Sunday I attended a lovely baby shower at Sweet Afton Tea Room. I had been there once before for a bridal shower so I know the menu and the service. BUT since then I was diagnosed with celiac disease and must eat GLUTEN FREE (GF). The shower hostess had not realized that. As a matter of fact another attendee had a similar problem. After watching the ladies eat the lovely, and stated tasty sandwiches and scones a waitress brought out a house salad, freshly prepared for me. when it was dessert time she gave the other GF lady and myself GF desserts, in fact the other lady needed dairy free, as well. This tea room deserves GREAT kudos for being flexible and understanding when the party menu had already been set!

Adorable! We happened upon this lovely tea house by accident and we're impressed with the attention to detail for a tasteful and tasty high tea experience. Delightful mismatched china, fresh flowers and sugar cubes on each table. The scones and lemon curd are worth the trip alone, and the licorice spice tea was lovely.

Ah memories always seem sweeter than the reality of a place. I went back to the Sweet Afton this week with my mother for a bit of nostalgia. It was nice enough considering. The owner was on hand and asked after us and I feel like we should have said something to him but we refrained. We were overall just disappointed with our visit. The service was oddly unfriendly and felt odd. Despite arriving at just after noon on a Tuesday they only had one shepherd's pie left. That shepherd's pie was dried out, even HP sauce could not save it really. There are no longer any veggies in it and not much gravy to be had either so you are just eating a pile of hamburger really, the mashed potatoes on top were cooked to crumbly and underseasoned. We split it and both of us just found it meh, we were glad there was only the one in hindsight. The soup we both had was great. The cream of asparagus was full of green goodness and herb punch. I wish I had gotten a whole bowl of it frankly. The cheddar muffin that came with was ice cold in patches, warm in others. Clearly nuked. I kept hearing the microwave door slam as we ate so I am sure I am right in my assumption. Served with a pat of ice cold *dilled butter*, dill of which I saw nary a sprinkle. My mother told me later she heard the cook ask if something was thawed before being served to the waitress, ummm not all the way thanks. I should have sent it back but again I felt weird about it in the room full of quiet ladies. The tea sandwiches were nice. Split happily. A bit overpriced for what you get but I still liked them enough. I prefer my cucumber to be peeled for sandwiches but it was still good tasting. The strawberry and the veggie cream cheese varietals were a delight. Our mini lemon tarts were same as remembered, nicely done and delish. The butter tarts though were dreck. Odd flavor and just not tasty at all. The scones were heavenly, honey pecan with a bit of Devon cream and extra lemon curd. Just perfect. It made me happy. The tea was perfectly brewed. We had to ask for more as the waitress was far from forthcoming. When asked for sweetener we were informed the tea was already sweet. Ummmm I know, I drink it daily in my own home thanks. I will decide how I drink it thanks. I see a sign in the window that they are looking for help. I hope they get it. I just felt like my whole meal was premade and nuked or rewarmed. At these prices that is just not acceptable frankly. If I come back I will be sticking with tea, tea sandwiches, soup and scones, nothing else is worth the prices.

Such a cute tea room. Love how everyone at the table gets their own unique teapot. Lunch was very tasty - quiche was good, and love the cheddar muffins. Also attended their special Christmas tea with family and friends - loved it! Almost too much food. Will be back!

I would actually give Sweet Afton 3 1/2 stars, as 3 just doesn't seem sufficient. I have a soft spot for this place as I discovered a hidden love for sweet gherkins here. Weird, I know. But I ordered the HIgh Tea that had cheese, bread, sweet gherkins and a few other things (tea snadwiches and pastries) all on a plate and fell in love. They also have THE most delicious blend of black tea I have ever tasted- Cinnamon Orange Spice. It is perfectly sweet without adding sugar and slightly spicy from the cinnamon. The decor is totally cheesy and victorian-esque, kinda of like your great aunt Mildred decorated it. Fancy china tea pots and cups are all over the place, but it definitely keeps with the whole "tea" theme. Its a great place to take a little girl or an old lady, but somehow skips every age in between.

While visiting my family in Michigan, I decided to take my younger cousin to tea and found Sweet Afton. After being greeted by the cashier, you step into a traditional english tea room, quite dainty. We ordered lunch with tea and crumpets and left very full. The soup (beef vegetable) was delicious even on a summer afternoon. The quiche lorraine is the perfect beginning to a nice pot of tea with scones and tarts. This is an excellent place to treat yourself on a nice day off or take a friend for a nice chat. In addition, the owners are very friendly and believe in what they've created. Speaking with both owners [at different times during the visit] and hearing their story made Sweet Afton even sweeter. I live in NYC and am an avid tea house attendee here in the city and Sweet Afton measures up. I look forward to my next visit when I'm in town and if possible a visit to their new location. Well done and continued success!

It's very cute and cheesy, I love the high-society atmosphere in here. It's fun! They have a small gift shop when you walk in the door to the small dining area. The tables certainly are decked out. And they have the finest china all laid out with fresh flowers on the table. I ordered scones (you just can't NOT order scones in a tea room). My friend ordered English custard bread pudding. We also had a pot of afternoon tea. My scone was served with Devonshire cream, lemon curd and preserves. I thought the scone was delicious but I was not at all pleased with the lemon curd. I couldn't bear to try my friends pudding, it really didn't look pleasing (wet and mushy looking), topped with spray on whip cream. The tea, however, was good. I would come again, I love the atmosphere. I'm told that you can have baby showers or bridal parties in here. I think thats a great idea!

Quite a disappointment. I took my girls there for a treat when school was out this week and we were greeted by a hostess who snarled at us, told us we should have had a reservation, then found us a table out of the several open ones. The waitress was nice enough, but very inattentive and brought one of our meals after the other two were done. Having done tea at Greenfield Village before, we had high hopes, but it was not the special experience I'd been hoping for and we will not be going back.

Out and about this afternoon, shopping and then realized we needed a teaball for our purchases from another establishment in Ann Arbor on 4th Street. Hint, hint! Already in Plymouth, I said "the tea room" and then we can also have a spot of tea. First thing in the door I noticed indeed there were accessories available for purchase, as I scanned the shelves. I spotted one lone teaball and asked the person at the register if there were more somewhere. I was shocked by this individual's response , who appeared annoyed to say the least. "Nope, what is there is what is available". Absolutely, no eye contact whatsoever!!! I then attempted to purchase this item, the person was abrupt and pawned the "chore" onto another person. I truly hope this person is not one of the owners. The "new" person was a trifle more customer oriented. Then, I spotted an entire huge bowl full of balls on a lower shelf on some sort of table. At least the "new person" grabbed the bowl and placed onto the counter for me to choose another ball. I did purchase two balls, needless to say we did not stay for tea and I seriously doubt if I will ever return. However, the haus on 4th street in Ann Arbor will receive another visit and my patronage.

This is the only tea room that I've ever been to but it really is so good I cannot imagine any other place being any better. I've only met one of the current owners and he was a very nice guy. The food is high quality and so are the teas. I usually order an English or an Irish Breakfast Tea but if you like flavored teas, then the orange cinnamon tea is very good. I've tried all of the tarts and they're very flavorful, especially the lemon and the pecan. For my main entree, I usually get the quiche but the Shepard's pie is also great. I'd definitely recommend the Cheddar muffins; they're out of this world.

What a sweet little find (no pun intended)! I was in Plymouth for the afternoon with a girlfriend and our moms, looking at things for her wedding, and we stopped at the Tea House for lunch. It was incredible! I don't think I have ever been to a tea house before but it's exactly like I think it should be: very cute and a large selection of teas. First of all downtown Plymouth is adorable, I had no idea. The owners were there and extremely personable, Al stopped by our table to chat and tell us about all the movies that have filmed in the area (Scream 4 is currently filming!) and the celebrities who have stopped in. It was really nice that the owners and employees seemed to genuinely enjoy being there. The tea and food were outstanding. Our moms each had the "high tea": 4 tea sandwiches, 2 mini quiches (very mini), 2 generously sized scones and 2 little tarts (plenty of options to choose from for each though). That also came with a pot of tea. It seemed like a good amount of food but the price ($15.95) seemed a bit steep for lunch (the only reason I had to deduct a star...). I had a lovely piece of zucchini, ham, cheddar and dill quiche and my friend had some delicious pot pie. We each also got cream of asparagus soup which was way more yum than I would have thought. Everything on their menu looked good! The decor was very...well, girly. Floral everything. Mismatched and charming tea cups. But the owner said that he added "man friendly" items to the menu, such as beef wellington. So guys, don't let the flowers scare you, the food and service is quite amazing.
