Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

My guy and I recently moved to the area and chose to check out La Vita Bistro for Saturday night date night. We had a pleasant experience here and I do recommend it. Here is my breakdown on this place: Decor/Environment- Quaint is the first word that comes to mind. This place has a refreshing charm to it. It is not a large place and its sort of split into two separate rooms. One side has a handful of booths and tables as well as a small bar. The second half has more tables and a small deli (I believe it does most of its business in the warmer months). They almost feel like two different restaurants as the first portion seems a bit bland and typical of an italian place. The second side however, is very different with walls of what looks like reclaimed wood and a small assortment of old farm tools hung about. Not your typical italian restaurant decor....I like that, a lot. I wish the whole place followed suit! Service- The service was pleasing. When we first arrived we were seated in the middle of the dining room and we expressed that we preferred a booth. The hostess informed us that none were available so we begrudgingly took our seats. Moments later a woman, who I think may have been the manager, asked us if we would like to move somewhere more comfortable. We obliged and she ushered us to the far side of the restaurant. It was not a booth but was far cozier than our original spot. It was nice to feel that our level of comfort was a priority there. Once seated, our waitress arrived and was pleasant, knowledgable and swift. Everything was done in a timely manner. Food- We ordered wine and the steak bites appetizer to begin. We were also brought fresh warm rolls and olive oil. The rolls were delicious and the oil and herbs were top notch! The appetizer was quite tasty as well. I can't quite place what was in the sauce that accompanied the meat but it was so good, we found ourselves sopping it up with our rolls! I ordered the osobucco and my date had the veal Marsala. He enjoyed his and I admit a stole a few bites. The biggest reason this review doesn't have a fifth star is due to me entree. While it wasn't bad, there was something off with the flavor. Possibly overseasoned with cinnamon. It definitely needs some adjustments. The meat was tender, but the risotto was not cooked quite right. The texture was a bit too coarse. My date finished with a hot cup of fresh coffee and told me it was fantastic. Price- I have no complaints on our bill. Everything was within reason and worth the money spent, Overall, I am satisified with La Vita Bistro and will be returning. Although I wasn't compete satisfied with my main dish, I do plan on trying other items on the menu, plus, I can't wait for the weather to warm up since they have a nice outdoor patio to take advantage of!

Excellent food very friendly. Large portions. Great menu The onion leek soup was amazing and the bread sticks are delicious

Love this place! What a gem. Lemon Veal was perfect. Eggplant loved by the Mrs. And the Calamari app was insane. Must order!

Tried to like this place. Food was good, especially duck gnocchi. Service poor and unprofessional for the price of food. Bartender very very very slow. 2nd visit was worse, dessert was old. Really tried.

Such a sad story. This place was the greatest. A total gem. Delicious food, excellent service, not something you would expect to find in Pinckney. I even used the catering department for an event I had locally. 200 people. Everyone was so impressed with the food. They assumed it was catered by a restaurant in Ann Arbor, Gratzi everyone asked. We know we turned many of our event attendees into patrons of La Vita Bistro. Then one day my daughter & I came for lunch. The experience was horrid (food, service, flies) but I thought possibly it was just an off day and maybe the chef was sick or something. We returned a month later & I happened to ask where the usual manager was....he had left and so had the chef. Well Out with the manager & the chef went the amazingness of this place. Everything we've had since they left is a total disappointment. The food was bad. The service was worse. Hoping someone reads this and looks to fix what was once so amazing and exciting. If not....I give this place less then a year.

I recently ate here for dinner with my family, we were seated in very uncomfortable booths where the seat backs are completely straight with no angle at all, also the restaurant does not have a closed kitchen door. Even though we were seated in the middle of the dinning area, we were directly across from the open kitchen which was very noisy. Also some chef was tenderizing meat for about 30 mins, we heard every swing of the mallet. When our food finally came, about 45 mins later my dish was served to me with the spoon submerged in the pasta/sauce. With no apology from the server, I had to dig the spoon out myself... I ordered the Okemos Skampi, it sounded great with some lemon seasoning but I about gagged when I tasted my food. It was sour, like grossly sour. My dad tasted it and winced, he thought it was downright nasty. The waitress took it back and I ordered something else, but she took so long 25+ mins for my dish that when it was served to me everyone else was done and I had to take it to go... My friend also ordered a medium done steak, it came out very very rare and bloody. Apparently a different restaurant manager was working tonight, because the service is usually not this bad. But service was very slow, as their was only a couple other families dining there. My food was terrible, then they took so long to give me a new dish that everyone was ready to leave. That's why they get 2 stars. For the price of the dishes I expect a much better experience.

Service was a five. Atmosphere was a five. Nice Italian music playing in the background. Decorated very nicely. Food was very good. The reason I am not giving them a 5 is because they no longer serve chicken picatta. This place is truly a gem. Can't wait to go back. I took my grandson who usually eats an adult portion but they have a great selection on the kids menu. He ate the chicken alfredo. Great portion and great taste. He gave it 5 stars.

Really great option for a nice dinner. Certainly the best restaurant in the area. The food is quite good although not quite top drawer. The Seafood Palomino is very good, although the temperature was a teeny bit off on the Luke warm side. The fettuccine Alfredo has been very good twice in a row. The chicken Marsala is consistently good too. Skip the spaghetti and meatballs; too much fennel in the meatballs and the sauce to pasta ratio is so far out of whack as to be soupy. Two orders of it at our table went uneaten. One to someone who loves that dish and will eat almost any kind. This was that bad. Desert is worth the trip all by itself. The almond cake, lemon cake and chocolate cheese cake are repeat favorites. Service is spotty but polite. Some are really good, some are in the wrong career and don't know much about service. (Removed bread plates before any food came, poured water all over the floor, checked too infrequently, left both spaghetti and meatballs on the bill despite them being uneaten and informed they were poor)

My first time was for breakfest. If you want something different from Coney island slop, this is a treat. I had this short rib egg master piece. It was very tasty. My wife had another unique dish that had smoked pastrami that was awesome. The complimentary cinnamon rolls were really good too. Loved it!!

I gave La Vita Bistro a second chance and service was exceptional, I wish I remembered who waited on us, but she was attentive and was extremely welcoming. I also ask about the dishes and she was knowledgeable. And thank you so much for the old wine list. Your clam chowder; I could live on, one of the best I've ever had and I've been to New England and Florida, they can't hold a candle to it. Thank you again
(4)Ani B.
i give it three stars, but still have that nagging feeling it may be too much. its nicely decorated, maybe the floors somewhat dirty. Only one waitress at lunch, too busy but enthusiastic. Menu NO WAY what is on line. That variety was what made me want to go. Actual number of dishes offered is less than half listed. There are no extras like a bread basket, side salad or soup, and NO fries offered with any item, i asked. Its straight cut and dry with what you order; and its over priced for the serving size. got the french onion soup which had good flavor; no sure if the piece of bread had been toasted before topping the soup with cheese. seemed mushy. mushroom pasta had a wonderful taste, generous on the mushrooms with a creamy sauce. don't think it was jarred, but if it was, let me know the brand. $9 serving quite small compared to other italian places- about 1 1/4 cups. would have liked a small side salad for some veggies. cannoli was as good as NYC, as was the price of $6. not house made, but freshly filled; catered out of Howell. But oh so good! skip the veggie tower entree. dry and fairly tasteless. can't really say i would return even with the items i did like. upon entry, a fishy odor that would not go away hits you. does have a small bar. there is only street parking, no meters to feed. the diner next door has a parking lot with a number of spots but posted its only diner parking.

Food was good, not great. What stunned me was getting the bill and finding I had been charged $1.50 for ice, in addition to the price of the drink, because I had ordered vodka on the rocks. The waiter explained that they were trying to increase the revenue of the bar. I've never seen this at another restaurant. With so many other choices, I won't be back.

Very pleased with our dinners. Bistro salad was excellent with a tender cut of steak. Chicken Limon was also tender and flavorful. Service was friendly and attentive. We will be back.

Went here the other night for an attempt at a local romantic dinner. Upon entry I was hoping for a more intimate setting and ambiance...luckily, they were just dimming the lights for the evening because it was quite bright. Additionally, the booths seemed rather large and not very intimate but, we made do and sat off to one side. I don't know about other people but, those fake candle lights don't do it for me either..just takes away from the ambiance effect. Anyhow, it is a nice place...looked clean..just not what I expected. We ordered our meals from the specials menu because they were fairly priced and salad and sorbet came with them (I love a package deal!). I inquired about some lobster ravioli that I saw on an online menu but, didn't see on their actual menu..apparently they don't sell them anymore. However, they just so happened to be on the special menu for the night...bonus?! So, needless to say I was excited to give them a try. Much to my disappointment, they were not that great..maybe it was the lobster, maybe it was the seasonings, maybe it was both. I have had a lot of lobster in my time...some really good, some really bad, some mediocre...I would say this tasted maybe like it was frozen...just not totally fresh, fresh and off. Additionally, I don't care for a sour/lemony flavor when it comes to my lobster...I would prefer it with a cream sauce of some sort..maybe alfredo..the flavors were a bit overwhelming and not in a good way. Presentation was very nice and I liked the sundried tomatoes on it. We also ordered a pork tenderloin meal that was on that menu..again the presentation was beautiful and I really tried hard to want to like the meal but, it was not good..the tenderloins tasted like they may have been stale or maybe just laid around, or been frozen too long? I don't know...I really tried to like it but, the taste was just really off..and it had curry flavor and some other spices that really didn't help it any (and I'm a fan of curry...maybe not on porK?). On a brighter note...the server was super accommodating and offered to help and take it off our bill. It wasn't that expensive and I don't like them taking things off the bill but, what can you do really if you don't like something, other than maybe replace it with something better? So, she suggested to bring the 3rd entrée that was on that menu and I was not only skeptical and hesitant but, kind of full with what I forced myself to eat since I figured I'd eat what I could if I was going to pay for it (before we realized she was going to take it off). The 3rd entrée was a noodle with cheeses and very well seasoned with a poached egg (which I love) on top...and although I can't eat cheese too much...it was the best dish and almost reminded me of an adult mac n cheese style dish. Lastly came our dessert that was included in the meal...and since we were having an off night, of course that would follow suit. It was a blood orange sorbet which was very sour (I haven't really experienced that before) and really puckered us up. Me and my girlfriend just looked at each other, puckering and gave it a chance...it wasn't bad just summed up the entrée meal deal...on a sour note. lol. I was determined to have something that ended the night well, so I went out on a limb and ordered tiramisu...and let me tell you it was awesome! So, the evening as a whole... ended on a sweet note. I appreciate the server for putting up with us and trying her best to explain what the issue was but, I just don't think their food is that great and I would have been super upset if I had paid full price for something I did not like. At least this way you can see what they have to offer for a seemingly fair price and if you don't like it you can go on your way and call it a day. I do like their beer selection and apps and desserts may have to be the thing with this place because they have what looks to be a really nice patio for the summer! :)

In the last 6 months the food went from a waste of money to utterly fantastic. I've been eating here since it opened and if you haven't been there lately GO BACK. You won't believe how amazing the food is. Me and my wife loved it! We also had breakfast there a few weeks back and it was also delicious. The environment and service is superb. The chef Eirik Kauserud is filling the seats at night. You won't regret this! Check it out.

We went to La Vita this Friday for dinner. Sometimes restaurants aren't consistent but this little place continues to deliver! The in-house wine expert is more of a "wine goddess" - as she for the 3rd time turned us on to an exceptional wine that we'd never tried before...at a reasonable price. She knows her stuff. She asked us what we were ordering and paired it with a lovely wine. The Scottish salmon was prepared perfectly atop roasted root vegetables. Yum!

This was our first visit and what an amazing hidden gem tucked away in Pinckney! My husband had the short rib and I had also Ossobucco for the first time! To DIE for! Handcrafted cocktails, outstanding service, fabulous sommelier Shannon! Thank you! Well be back!!
(5)John U.
After a very nice response from Judy(owner?),after my last review, I decided to give La Vita Bistro another chance. That was a mistake! Poor service, uninspired food, poorly stocked bar(they didn't even have a lime in the entire restaurant on a Thursday). New manager Shannon! I wonder if the last place she worked is still opened. MF review is spot on. Even on the La Vita website, the most recent review is more than 2 years old. Save yourself the drive. However if you do decide to come out, I would suggest you call first, just to make sure they haven't shut the place down.

Back again. Took relatives. Best pasta anywhere. Great service. The pear and blue cheese salad is memorable. Relatives coming again and want to go back. It's actually their first request of things to do. Did I mention the blue cheese stuffed olives in the martinis? Yum.

My husband and decided to kick off celebrating our five year wedding anniversary at La Vita Bistro last night after reading the reviews. We were not disappointed. I have to say this is the best meal I have eaten in awhile. We ordered the baked scallop appetizer and a bottle of syrah to start things off. The scallops were perfectly cooked, and the béchamel sauce was very tasty. My husband ordered the rack of lamb and I decided on the Duck breast special. The duck breast was wonderful, tender and crispy skin. The small bite my husband offered up of his lamb melted in my mouth. We finished off the meal with cannoli, and I'm not embarrassed to say I would have licked the filling off the plate if I could have. The noise level was a little high, but I take that as everyone was having a great time and enjoying their food. I am looking forward to the expansion and the deli/takeout counter opening soon. We will be back!

This place gets better each time we come. Great menu backed up with excellent food. Very good whiskey selection
(4)Mandie C.
Excellent food and a good brunch menu. I had the stuff French toast (not your traditional fair) and the hubby had the eggs benedict. The French toast was done open face with maple sausage and cheese and a side of whipped cream with tart apples. The eggs Benedict was served on slices cibata bread and panchetta was used vs Canadian bacon. Mimosa for me, coffee for B and our total was 28$. We love our food and will be back!

My husband and I ate here for the first time this evening. We met up with a friend who recomended it. I don't know what people expect for ambiance in Pinckney, but in my opinon it was great. Elegant without being snobish, comfortable without being hokey. I do agree with one other reviewer, it was quite warm in the restaurant. My face felt hot, and it was not because I had drunk too much wine. I also thought the music was a tad loud and at times it was difficult to carry on a conversation. The food was outstanding! My husband had a ribeye steak that came with a choice of salad or soup, mashed potatoes and green beans. I had the vegetable arribiata pasta which also came with soup or salad. Both meals were delicious and the portions were huge. I also had spumoni for dessert, which was excellent. The wine selection had a vary nice variety of whites and reds from various locations. They also had a full bar. My understanding is that on Wednesday nights they have 25% bottles of wine. Service was outstanding. Our waitress allowed plenty of time for us to review the menu and make our selections. She wasn't overly pushy on asking us if we wanted appetizers (as someone who rarely orders them, I was appreciative). The food also came quickly, but not too quickly. Given the size of Pinckney and the selection of resturants in town, this venue is a rare gem. I hope it continues to be succesful and I will be back again! P.S... I apologize to the owner. He kept walking through the restaurant and I kept staring at him. I swore I had seen him before, but halfway through dinner realized it was because I saw him on Fox 2 talking about the restaurant. Duh, Margaret!

Another fantastic dinner at La Vita Bistro! Had friends join us for dinner and were extremely impressed. Calamari appetizer, Lake Trout special and they knocked it out of the park. Keep up the good work
(5)Katie B.
We love going here and we frequent the bistro often. I have had almost everything on the menu and it has all been amazing! I am really looking forward to their expansion and deli.
(5)Shawn S.
I love the all the soups! Several of us miss the roasted potatoes, salmon with cheese risotto, duck, filet (plain) and pork tenderloin. The new menu is a little to foo foo (items with words unknown to many) for some of us who use to go twice a month for dinner and drinks.

This place is a gem! We are so thrilled to have such excellence in Pinckney! We discovered La Vita in the summer and have since made it in at least once per week. It just keeps getting better. The food is outstanding, everything from their eggplant parmasean to the salmon. The wine selection is awesome. Prices are very reasonable for what you get. The staff is incredibly friendly and they all do very well in tolerating young children. We can't wait to try the weekend breakfast sometime. This place is the BEST!!
(5)Tiffany L.
FYI- Bobby is a fucking awesome waiter!!
(5)Traven P.
Ate here last weekend, super cute place, a little small and loud, super nice staff, very accomadating, awesome bread, bolognese sauce was the saltiest I have ever tasted, meatballs were good, pretty decent food dressed up to be fancy - will come again but not often.

Great place to eat! Atmosphere is nice and food is amazing! I had the scallops and they were the best I ever had! Highly recommend this to anyone!

Yes, this place really is about as good as it gets. I was among a party of 13 on December 28, 2011 and heard no complaints about either the food or the wine or the service. My entree was the Wild Mushroom and Chicken Penne, featuring a goat cheese sauce. It was heavenly. A friend had the Marsala entree with veal, which I sampled; and it, too, was delicious. (The serving size could have been a bit larger on the Marsala.) Loved the presentation with the crisp white dishes. The bottle of merlot from the selection of house wines was very nice and well priced. Our server was also exceptional. She handled our table alone the entire evening and did not miss a beat. (Yes, I am one of those people for whom bad service can be a deal breaker even if the food is good. Sorry.) Although I no longer live in the area, La Vita Bistro will be on my list of places to visit on a Summer's Sunday drive.

First off, we went here because I love supporting local businesses; however, I don't think we'll be coming back... The food is pricey, the service is simply okay. The waitress, who was an older lady, was warm, friendly, and inviting; however, the kitchen staff and younger servers leave allot to be desired. The food wasn't very good in general and is pretty pricey given the local economy and for its quality. The atmosphere is okay; however, they seriously need a better HVAC system; it's hot in there... Overall, it's a small mom & pop type restaurant with pricey italian food; it could be better, and it's a really shame that their outside dining area isn't larger and more inviting... All that said, it's Pinckney, I should really have expected much and this why we generally travel to Ann Arbor, Novi, and Lansing...
(2)Emily J.
I've been here twice, and both times I was underwhelmed by the quality of the food. This restaurant has great ambiance and a friendly staff, but the food was nowhere near the quality I was expecting. It's great to see a restaurant like this in Pinckney, and I can only hope they'll improve their menu as time goes on.
(3)Jennifer U.
Very impressed with the food here! I had no idea that there was great Italian food in Pinckney!!! My dish was simply amazing and my kids loved their food as well! I tried one of their Pino Noir's and that was great too! The price point on their wine is not too shabby I must say. The service was excellent...very attentive to your needs. I totally recommend this restaurant..2 thumbs up!
(5)Michael S.
SUPERB!!!! One of the finest dining experiences I have ever had!!! A Caesar Salad from Heaven! Veal Piccata that was out of this world. The wine selection is superb and very reasonably priced. We are going back this weekend to try something else! Service was very good. Knowledgable wait staff was really on their toes. This is a very small, private and intimate place. Do yourself a favor and stop in for an excellent dining experience. Please leave room for desert!! You will not be sorry!
(5)Pierre G.
My wife and I have eaten hera a few times and we found the food good and prices reasonable.
(4)Jason M.
Tony and his staff are welcoming and hospitable. The food was excellent quality and reasonably priced. We love the call ahead seating option. We will definitely be back!
(4)Marc L.
Excellent dinner. Filet was cooked perfectly and was approx 8oz. Wifey had the chicken Marsala which was served with two breasts and while grain pasta. Two entrees drinks and salad 'upgrades' put us back $72 and we had leftovers. Pretty good for a great meal.
(5)Chris G.
It's sad what's happened to this place. It was once so good but has gone way down hill in the past year. Their prices were once very fair and portions generous. Entrees used to be fantastic and the service was once superb. We were always asked how our meal was by a manager and the answer was always excellent. After dining at La Vita dozens of times since it opened, I'm sad to say I will not be returning. I kept coming in hoping to relive the experiences we once has there, but I leave frustrated and disappointed each time. Here's a list of what has happened in the past year and I hope the management/owners take note. I've talked to many other loyal customers who feel the same way: 1. Prices have gone up but portions have gone down. I ordered lasagna a few weeks back for lunch and paid $13.00 for a 2 inch by 2 inch piece of lasagna with no soup, salad, drink, or bread (yes, not kidding). I explained my disgust to the waitress who brought me out another piece. They did their best to fix the situation, but that should have never happened to begin with. If I was a first-time diner I would have never returned. 2. Entree quality has gone down. Cheaper ingredients are being used and the same cheap sides like cabbage are incorporated into several entrees to save money. Trust me, I know food and can understand what they're trying to do. I would not be as mad about it had prices not gone way up and portion sizes down. 3. 4/5 salads I order are now regularly loaded in dressing. For a high-end restaurant this is not acceptable. I stopped ordering salads a few months ago due to this. 4. The bread has been changed. It is okay, but there are too many spices on the bread and it's actually hard to eat more that 1-2 pieces now. (Maybe that was the goal). Bring back the old bread recipe. On three occasions the bread was brought to my table rock hard. Mistakes happen, but it should not happen more than once. 5. Service is not as good. The waitstaff are by no means bad, but I often leave feeling unimpressed after paying $70+ for a dinner date. The only thing that kept me coming back at lunch anyway was the great waitress I usually have. Middle-aged with red hair and glasses. She is truly the best. Also, when Tony managed the place he was always interacting with guests. Since he left I have not been approached by anyone asking how my experience was. The charm of the place has gone out the door because of this. The female manager and male chef constantly tromp through without batting an eye, even if my party and I are the only ones there. I would have given them valuable feedback had they ever actually asked how my meal was. Whenever I brought up issues with my meal (which I did sparingly) there was never a chef or manager involved, just the waitress. I feel like they are not open to improvement because they keep messing the same things up over and over again. 6. The menu is very inconsistent and always changing. Some of the original entrees such as the pork tenderloin are now covered in a thick sauce. Many entrees have been turned into this model. All dishes are now very high in calorie content because of this and it is a turn off to anyone trying to take in less calories and hate rich entrees. They need to stick to a reliable menu and stop changing everything up. Don't turn good entrees into a soupy mess on a plate. (Side note, my crab cakes a few weeks ago were plated in such a way that made it look like someone had vomited on my plate. It was the running joke of the evening with my dinner party. The vomit-looking stuff was actually not bad but the crab cakes were so-so. La Vita, I hope and pray you fix this restaurant. I've tried almost everything on your menu since you opened including all of your desserts (which are made off-site which is why they are still good), seafood, steaks, appetizers, drinks, and pasta. The only thing I still really like that you have is your Italian sausage penne (which would be better if you kept the old tomato sauce. Yes, I know you changed it). Many of my friends have stopped going for these reasons as well. I hung on way longer than I should have, but I kept hoping my favorite restaurant would come back. I'm sorry to say I had my last meal there at lunch yesterday when my pasta was floating in about an inch of heavy mushroom sauce, not good. I've celebrated many special occasions there, including two birthdays. You were once a world-class restaurant that has descended to a subpar and overpriced dining experience.

Hostess Heather was a sweetie! Server Jennifer started out good but ended on a bad note. I am getting ahead of myself though. Calamari was outstanding for an appetizer! Salads were mediocre. Entrees were adequate mine was shrimp scampi. Espresso machines broken so had irish coffees which were luke warm and then our server lost our credit card which she first nally found under some one elses table ..... really? One time here was enough for us!
