This restaurant is in our town and it is Fantastic! We go here when we have company in town, to celebrate a special occasion or just when we want some good Italian. We have traveled the world and this establishment is top notch. It isn't upscale Italian in is old school Italian. If you are expecting modern swanky, stay home, BUT you'll miss out on a incredible meal. The people complaining about this place should be whipped with a wet noodle. Because it just isn't right! Keep up the good work Alex and we'll see you tonight!

This is not a place I would recommend. First off they had hard breadsticks just sitting on tables that were not occupied simply collecting dust. Secondly, there was an unpleasant spider, I repeat, SPIDER in my aunts tea cup and it took a while to get anyone's attention. The food was awful and tasted so watered down. I had a dish with a spicy red sauce and it tasted just like they just watered down salsa and used it was the sauce. This is place is NOT worth the money!

    Overpriced, unfriendly, and horribly outdated.

We arrived Into Petoskey in late evening looking for something to eat. This place was wonderful, great decor, wonderful food and very attentive service. Offered complimentary spinach artichoke dip with the bread sticks and then bean spread with fresh baked bread. We had the Fetticini Carbonara and Baked Shrimp on Angel hair pasta with Pancetta, fontina and tomatoes. Both were wonderful. A little pricey, but well worth it!

Well let me start by saying that I had dinner for the first time here last night and had a lovely experience. We summer here with lots of family and expected to come back on a regular basis. Until. I called tonight to ask for take out of one menu item for my husband who unexpectedly ended up in the hospital right across the street. It was not no but hell no. The owner said he was very busy and couldn't accommodate a take out order. So goodbye and all of my business. I suggest all of my fellow yelpers boycott a place as callous and clueless as this one.

Hands down the best Italian we've had in the US. Authentic! Great wine selection. Incredible service. Worth every dime! We've considered making a 10 hour drive just to go back to this restaurant. It's that good.

We always make our own minds up...and glad we did. On a visit from Florida, we went to Villa and the service, food and wine were all top notch. We eat out regularly and the Osso Bucco was fabulous. Don't be put off, take in a visit, it will be worth it.

Food good, service poor. Had 7pm reservation and after a nice bottle of wine and dinner we were told that they didn't have any coffee made. When I asked waitress if she wanted to get out of there she shrugged her shoulders and said kinda.

I would certainly return to and recommend this restaurant. The wine selection was quite good, the menu is complete, the service was excellent and my spinach salad, minestrone, lasagne and dessert were tasty. The only drawback is that it is a bit pricey. Reservations would be advised.

5 Stars, for sure. We were a little concerned about what our experience would be like, after reading a couple of really ugly reviews on the internet. However, our experience was nothing but perfect. I really want to leave a detailed review, because this was a perfect end to our 5 days in Petoskey, and BY FAR one of the best meals we had there. We called for last minute reservations, and they were very accommodating on the phone. When we arrived 15 minutes early, they already had a nice table set for us - and I know it was chosen for us, because after we were seated. I heard the owner/manager/dude in charge ask the waitress, "Did you set up the corner table for the (our name) reservation?" It made us feel very welcomed. The decor was really cool - very "old school Italian" (or old school Bavarian?) and really suited the restaurant. The bathrooms looked brand new, and were super clean. Our waitress was friendly and incredibly gracious. She was excited about the menu, and offered to explain anything we wanted to know further about. They brought us some complimentary (insanely delicious) dips (cheese + horseradish, and white bean) and yummy bread. We shared a shrimp & scallop appetizer, and my husband had the fresh tomato pasta while I ordered the pasta alla bolognese. All three were delicious. We were going to end our meal with just a cup of coffee, but we ended up chatting with our waitress about how it was our one year anniversary 2 days prior, and how this meal reminded us of our Italian honeymoon. When she found out it was our anniversary (even 2 days prior!), she asked if we had room for a special anniversary dessert, on the house. I never turn down chocolate (NEVER) so of course we said we'd find the room - and I' glad we did, because it was a really different chocolate mousse with "happy anniversary" written on the plate. Just really sweet. All in all, our dinner at Villa was really special. We loved the atmosphere, the service was fantastic, and the food was delicious. Service was appropriately timed for enjoying a several course meal.

Wow! The Villa has got to be the best restaurant in Petoskey, perhaps the best Italian restaurant I've been to! Small and intimate is the dining room, but the menu is huge and the portions are more than reasonable. I've dined here quite a few times, and I'm glad to see they now offer smaller portions. Dinners come with a first course too, so you can have a salad or bowl of soup with dinner too! Off the menu, I highly suggest the Calamari Fritti as an appetizer, the house or antipasto salad for the first course, and for dinner, well, there is alot to look over. maybe order some wine off the list and think it all over because you will need some time to decide from all the options. Desserts are also wonderful and homemade, so try the cannoli or tiramisu. He also has a very large Grappa bar. Grappa is something made from the wine-making leftovers. Tastes alot like alcohol, but you should give it a try when you visit. They also make their own Limoncello! Staff was wonderful, and very knowledgeable about the menu. I would HIGHLY recommend The Villa to anyone that asks about dining in Petoskey!

I don't understand the negative reviews this restaurant has received. I was reluctant to go because of them but was really wanting Italian food. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the food and the service was also good. I only wish someone would have mentioned that it is not a casual dress place. Not fancy, but you should dress a bit above short and flip flops. We will definitely go back!

I would rate this a 3.5. The food is solid Italian fare. I would rate the lasagne the best of the offerings. The wine list, if you like Italian wines, is a five on the other hand and fairly priced when you consider the cellaring that has clearly gone on here. We had a 14 year old Super Tuscan for $50. A deal in restaurant terms. We will return.

Overpriced, indifferant, outdatedand and no longer one of the few options in town. I've been coming up to a cottage in Petoskey for 25 years and am glad we have so many more options these days.

This is by far the best Italian food I have ever tried. The owner uses fresh ingredients from his garden; the taste is orgasmic. My husband and I agree that this is the best restaurant in Petoskey.

Our first visit to Villa after many times driving by and wondering if that cute place would live up to our expectations. Several locals recommended that we give it a try as it's been around for about forty years. Our experience was fantastic! We were able to get a reservation on Friday night the weekend after Labor Day which is probably why they were able to accommodate us on late notice. Curious and interesting decor at this quaint spot. Almost more Bavarian feeling than Italian. Pictures and quotes dot the interior and it would take several visits to take them all in. Our experience was great in every way. We arrived a little early and we were greeted promptly and waited just a few minutes while they prepared our table. The server was a very friendly woman and she made our evening very enjoyable. Traditional Italian at its best. Many salads including the special of the evening, fresh heirloom tomato with equally fresh burrata cheese. They grow these tomatoes in their own vegetable and herb garden. Fantastic to say the least! We enjoyed wine from their expansive wine list ( many Wine Spectator awards on the lobby walls) and chose two traditional meals of fettuccine with shrimp and mussels and Limone Chicken. Our entrees were prepared perfectly and served warm and quite timely. Don't miss trying some of the house made desserts either as there is something for everyone for sure. If grappa is your thing, you won't find a better selection anywhere except maybe Italy. We really can't wait to return and try some of the other items on the menu! We now have a new "must go to" restaurant in Petoskey.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
