Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

It's hit or miss. The fajitas and the flautas are always very good. Tried the enchiladas last night and they were pretty gross. My husband always gets the wet burrito and he really likes it. Go on nights when there's margarita specials so you can at least drink while you're eating average Mexican food,

Best Mexican in town. I have eaten here for years and I have only had good experiences. And margaritas!

Tastes like microwaved Mexican food. Bright side...okay margaritas and the green salsa is really good. That's pretty much where it ends, though....

I sat, and sat and no one in the restaurant. Finally I had to ask someone if they could take my order, and then "its not my table", etc. Very poor management to ever let that happen. I had to ask for water and a beer and celery (twice). It was an horrible. The food (Chicken wings) were undercooked. Thing is this was my favorite restaurant growing up (Chicken wings). Hopefully they can get it together.

The best, non-authentic, mexican food ever! I hate the real stuff. I love the Americanized version. This place is the best. Food is wonderful. Big portions made hot and fresh. Prices were in line with what you get. Manger came to our table to inquire how everything was. He showed up a couple of more times to help clear dishes. Our waiter was fantastic, he was fast and funny. Joked around with our kids. We never felt rushed in this place. We took our time and never felt like they wanted to push us out the door. I've never seen a restaurant where they clean so much. They just constantly cleaned. It was almost a little too much, dirt doesnt stand a chance in this place. Cute mexican cantina decor in the place. I look forward to my next trip there. Just wonderful!

Really bad food!!! Great service but I was there to eat and it was really bad. The taste of the food was totally off and the chips were stale.

This place is terrible. I can understand that Northern Michigan probably isn't the best place to taste exquisite Mexican fare, but this isn't rocket science, guys. -The location: This is a convenient spot with ample parking on a corner. The building itself looks sorta authentic and kinda 1987-ish. -Food: Awful...stale chips with what seemed to be Kroger-brand salsa to start. So so guacamole (hand mixed at table by server. The fajitas were complete crap...no peppers, few onions and the beef looked like it was meant for canine consumption. -Service: Our waitress was great and friendly, but her kindness couldn't help cover for other issues. -Price: Average, I guess...felt a bit ripped off after our meal. -Would I return? No

We went in to celebrate my parents anniversary and it was one of the best experiences we have ever had there. Justin was our server and he did a fantastic job. The food came out in a very timely matter and was good.

We were headed for The Side Door Saloon, but found it closed on Sundays, so stopped at La Senorita. Used to come yearly while on vacation when the kids were younger. Agree that the interior doesn't look like its been updated over the past 20 years. The special Mojitos were just OK. Neither of the two served were made with spiced rum as ordered and both tasted different. My seafood quesadillas were fine -- alot of fake crab and teeny shrimp; no seasoning to speak of. Miniscule portions of sour cream and guacamole in little plastic cups. What is it with northern MI and the plastic cups? Every restaurant we visited served something in these tiny plastic, portion-control cups. My niece had the salmon dinner which looked great, but the other meals at our table (burrito, enchiladas, shrimp tacos) looked average at best. Salsa is fine and the server brought refills without being asked. Tortilla chips were the best thing on the table.

First went to La Señorita about 25 years ago, probably haven't been there for at 8 years. It was one of our regular stops after skiing Boyne Highlands or Nubs Nob. Tonight was kind of disappointing. The interior doesn't look like it's changed at all during that time. The food was mediocre to average at best. Taco Bell food probably has more flavor. Service was ok, nothing spectacular. It may be another 8 years until I'd consider going back.

This place is exactly what it seems. It's a chain sit down Mexican restaurant in the esteemed history of ChiChi's and Don Pablo's. If you've been there, you've essentially been here. It won't change your life, but if your expectations are basic Mexican, it won't disappoint you either. Pros: quick seating, chairs with wheels(!), super friendly service, great chips and salsa, comprehensive Americanized Mexican menu, good drinks. Also, on several items, they offer a "smaller" size, which is a welcome addition to most Mexican restaurant menus. For people with kids, they have a cheap kids' menu on Sunday nights. Cons: the food is serviceable, but it's not going to blow you away. The ambiance isn't great (but are you really coming here for ambiance or for cheesy/fried things?)

I loved my fish taco and the service was great! My husband had a wet burrito and had his taste buds ready for a different taste than he received...so I think he was a bit disappointed. It was a good experience on a Sunday night.

If you're expecting the version of Mexican that appeals to mainstream Americans, you will probably be satisfied with this place. Burritos, chimis, fajitas, quesadillas and the usual meals composed of the same ingredients in slightly different arrangements. The booth was comfortable and the waiter was attentive. We got enough food for our dollar. I appreciated that most menu items come in a "smaller" size, which means you won't have to bring home leftovers, unless you want to, in which case, get the regular size entree. The chips were OK, but the salsa was ... weird. The red tomato-based picante had an odd sour lilt that reminded me of spoiled tomato taste. The salsa verde was much better. My smaller size wet burrito was delivered hot hot hot with beans and rice on the side, and everything tasted OK. Hubby got some quesadillas that seemed pretty good - spinach and chicken. Watch the plates - they're hot from the oven. I'd rate this as better than "meh" but not quite "A-OK," so 2.5 stars is my vote.

The food is so-so. I have to say, every time I go there I remember why I don't. Bad service, okay food...over priced drinks. It's a shame that such a great location has a bad reputation. I kept hearing the waitresses apologizing to guests about slow service. Stop apologizing and do something about it. No drink refills, well done chips. Yeah, I'm not going to this place any time soon.

Living in the area, I've been to this restaurant many times over three decades. It is SO bad. The food is always sub-par (think cheap ingredients thrown together, frozen, then microwaved), and I hear nightmare stories from former employees about restaurant conditions. You deserve better, so please go to one of the other two Mexican restaurant in town.
(2)Bryan B.
Yuck! I did not check for myself, but there must be no authentic mexican chef on duty in this mexican restaurant, because the food is just bad......not good mexican flavor, not good flavor period. Try taco Bell for better mexican food. The building was nice and service was satisfactory. ....but would never eat here again.

Awful service. Not only were we asked if I was set when our food was served, but I couldn't even grab the waitress's attention as she ran away till halfway through the dinner. The chips and salsa were below average and oddly difficult to eat. The seafood quesadilla.... The waitress actually recommended this shit. It tasted like imitation crab meat from Walmart and Kraft cheese. Soooo gross.

I don't recommend this restaurant. The service is slow and the food is not worth the wait. The tortilla soup looked and tasted like vegetable soup from a can. The queso dip tasted like grocery store queso from a can too. Free chips and salsa were good but I'd recommend not going beyond them.

I should have read reviews before entering this place. Lesson learned. Paid $17 for 2 " top shelf" margaritas that tasted like lemonade with no alcohol. Waitress assured us that the bartender put alcohol in it. The food was not expensive but it wasn't that great either. Bland and very well could have been prepared in a microwave. If you are in the area and craving Mexican food and margaritas I would suggest looking elsewhere. Oh yeah...the place didn't smell very good either.

Free chips & salsa, decent Mexican food and crazy low prices! I try to go here whenever I am in Petoskey.

Not my favorite for Mexican as the quality just isn't there, HOWEVER, they have my favorite wings in the world. Not breaded, great flavor. We often get their branded chips and a large green salsa with the wings to go. Perfect sports watching food.

We were driving around looking for a place to dine in for Mother's Day. Their sign outside the establishment said, 'Bring Mom Here'. OK. Well, we should have continued cruising past. We ordered the chicken enchilada platter, quesadilla platter and from the children's menu, chicken fingers ($0.99 Sundays). Chicken Enchilada Platter - Dry, unmarinated chicken; refried beans were flavorless; Spanish rice was mush and oily. Quesadilla Platter - Beef tasted like powder marinade Taco Bell and was too salty; guacamole did not taste freshly-made. Chicken Tenders with Fries - They were actually good and moist.

The food--before the sauce is put on--seems to be mediocre. The chips are heavy and the salsa isn't anything great. When my enchiladas, beans, and rice came out, I was disappointed. The enchiladas had a weird sauce on them that tasted a little sweet (almost as if someone had put a sugar substitute into the sauce mix). The beans looked as if they had been sitting out for a while, as the top of 'em was crusty. My sister ended up vomiting up her meal due to its taste...actually, she's thrown up after eating here twice. We came here because it seems to be the only Mexican joint around.
