The was my best find yet in Northern Michigan. The DLB has great food, I have yet to find something I didn't like. The Ribeye is amazing, the Salmon is awesome, if you love Carrot cake, you have to try theirs. It is the best I've had. Just don't wait too late to go. Th kitchen closes around 9 or 10 depending on the day of the week.

The "Lenny" is delicious. The service is average. Both steaks were ordered medium and they brought them rare - poor execution likely due to the popularity of this place on summer weekends. They don't have to pay attention to detail. $135 for two should yield steaks the way they're ordered. We won't be back.

This out of the way 'log cabin' restaurant is definitely worth the drive. Located on the lake with unobstructed views from the verandah, lends itself to a lovely evening. My husband and I have taken many out of town guests to dine here this summer '15 and we have never been disappointed. The seafood and steaks are very popular and the serving size is large. I had the wedge salad last night and was a little disappointed with the lack of tomatoes and bacon accompanying my half wedge (which was way too big). Other than that small complaint everything was wonderful. The staff are very accommodating and knowledgeable. Reservations are strongly recommended during the summer and if possible, request to sit out on the verandah. Bon Appetite!

Food was excellent. Best around service was awful. We were there for 2 hours. Got our first drink within minutes of sitting down and was not asked again if we wanted a drink. Waitress didn't ask us any questions. After we got our to-go boxes. It took another 20 minutes to get our bill.

Very hard to find. If you're not looking for it you'll probably never find it. We were tipped off by our hotel staff claiming this was the best food in northern Michigan. Cute restaurant right by the water with great views. Good wine selection and the staff is very helpful. I had the garlic chicken which was so moist and flavorful. Co worker had the bbq ribeye which was different but he seemed to enjoy it!

The DLB is rather overpriced, but it is a beautiful spot on this earth. Sit on the porch if you can. I must say up front that I have not had the steak, which many rave about, but as its $40 or so, I've just shied away. Best value by a long shot is the hamburger, which was both big, but delicious and nicely prepared medium rare as I ordered. I've also had the shrimp, cedar plank whitefish, perch, a seafood pasta, and a few other things. Soups are edible, but none have been a special standout. None of them were what I would call "good", or even something I couldn't make much better in my own kitchen. Had a seafood chowder a couple years back which was just plain bad, thick as paste, fishy. The whitefish, however, was the victim of a blast furnace, dried out and completely unseasoned. Why people flock to this dish, or to this bland fish in general is beyond me. The perch was just as boring and under seasoned, the shrimp buried under a hollandaise (or similar), and applied so heavily I slid it off to minimize the saucing of the also overcooked prawns. Seafood portions are small. Salads are fine, Midwestern. The DLB is basically an OK restaurant in a beautiful and historic building, which I'm very happy is still operating. I do miss the old DLB, an unpretentious bar with Ms. Pacman, foosball, beer and popcorn, but I can understand the need to operate as a restaurant and make money. However, if you're going to charge Chicago prices in Pellston, you had best serve Chicago caliber food, and in this, the DLB misses.

One of our very favorite places to eat!!! We have done 3 NYE dinners here after this year and everytime delish!! Last year we were downstate and paid a pretty penny for our meals and the restaurant royally messed up my steak which made the decision to do New Years upnorth again very easy!! We love eating here in the summer! Blacked chicken pasta is my guilty pleasure! My family loves the perch and the whitefish. We love this place so much we had our rehearsal dinner here!! Don't forget to order a hummer at the end of your meal... worth every calorie! They do them perfect!

Had a great evening at the DLB with my husband. Friendly service and enjoyable atmosphere. The seafood Douglas was delicious and my husband enjoyed the walleye. Would definitely recommend!

Our new favorite restaurant in the area. Order the Ribs, they are delicious and filling!

Fabulous evening at this new found lakefront restaurant. Everything the six of us ate and drank was marvelous. Short ribs, ribeye, sirloin steak, perch and walleye. Fabulous . We sat on the porch overlooking the lake. Such a peaceful setting. Will go back whenever in the area

Usually our favorite restaurant! Tonight was okay. Steak and white fish were good. Potatoes on planked whitefish were overdone. Almost burnt and dry. Carrot cake is one of the main reasons we come here. Disappointing tonight. And after we bragged to all of our guests.

Visited with my wife last weekend and look forward to another visit soon. We're downstaters with a rental in the area and discovered the DLB thanks to Yelp. Started with drink at the pinewood bar and the service was bustling - it was a Saturday night -and friendly. The wine list looks OK and the selection of tap and bottle beers was interesting. We saw several very nice looking cocktails go by us and will definitely try those next time. We were seated in the middle of the dining room with views of the lake and the porch seating. This is white table-cloth service and the waitstaff was friendly and seemed to be pretty well dialed-in. We started with the Shrimp Lenny - crab stuffed jumbo shrimp wrapped in bacon. Oh my it was good with a nice hollandaise sauce to compliment. My wife had a Steak salad that was very generous with the steak and otherwise straightforward - fresh greens and not over-dressed. I ordered the small Ribeye and was very, very impressed with the skill of the grillmaster. I will be trying to replicate the seasoning of this steak at home. It was nicely balanced with a little heat and not too much salt. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium with nice grill marks and caramelisation. The entree also came with garlic mashed potatoes and vegetable of the day - asparagus in this case. Nice homemade rolls came on the side as well. We were too full for deserts (again a reason for another visit). There's a definite lake vibe happening which lends a casual air to the DLB but the quality and execution of the food raises it up a couple of notches. It is off the beaten path but I find that endearing as it seems destination restaurants are becoming extinct.

Happened upon the DLB&S three years ago and each time we return it is better than the last! It is definitely our favorite place to eat when we visit Northern Michigan.

Excellent food. Beautiful view with attentive service. Steak is always cooked to perfection. Seafood tastes fresh and the seafood douglas is well mixed with noodles and seafood. Would recommend the Parmesan cream sauce. Would highly recommend. One of the most beautiful sunsets from a restaurant

Everything you could ask for in a restaurant up north. - Scenic location next to a lake off the main road. - Rustic "up north" decor. - Lots of freshwater seafood on the menu To start, we ordered the mussels as a starter. It was a solidly prepared with a nice broth that I was more than happy to soak up into the garlic toast they came with. For my entree I ordered the perch dinner. 5 or 6 small fried pieces of fish, served with rice and green beans. The little pieces of fish were perfectly seasoned and had just enough of a hint of fried crispness to it. After eating this dish, I came to the conclusion that I've probably never ordered perch in a restaurant before. Good thing I ordered it, because I definitely want to order it again. For desert we split a carrot cake, which like the rest of the meal was excellent. Too bad this restaurant is so far from Downtown Minneapolis.

I agree with Jess. Almost don't want tell folks how special DLB is to all of us in N. Michigan. Upscale dining in a lakefront log cabin. Steaks, fresh walleye, perch, scallops, you name it, it's all good. Service is outstanding and the view is terrific. Last year we were thrilled to see a float plane land and taxi up to the dock. Great place, don't miss it if you're anywhere close.

I almost don't want to post about Douglas Lake Bar. It's a bit of a treasure in this part of northern Michigan, and the tucked away location adds to the feeling that it's your own secret gem. The DLB is hands down the highest quality casual 'fine dining' establishment in a 20 mile radius. Sure, the atmosphere is cabin-esque, not chic and contemporary, but it's well-maintained and purposeful. It's a relaxed, summertime-in-northern-Michigan vibe. Plus, the food is just plain solid. Prior to our last visit, I had never strayed from their steaks because, well, the DLB knows how to prepare a steak. This time I tried the peppercorn-crusted pork tenderloin and it exceeded my expectations, really delicious. Order it medium, as the chef recommends. The French Onion soup is the best in the area. My husband appreciates the option of whole anchovies with the caesar salad. Everything else we have tried (planked whitefish, walleye, several homemade desserts) has been consistently satisfying. Service is competent and friendly. Peaceful lakefront setting with private dock for boat accessibility.

Great place, wonderful people. Went there for our wedding annivserary had a great meal. Were seated in front of fire place with fire burning was very cozy on such a chilly rainy night. Would recomend it highly.

This place is great. We found it through doing some google searches on best northern michigan restaurant. The restaurant is hidden gem with amazing food. I got filet mignon and it was unbelievably good. Also the ambiance is excellent. Highly recommend this place!

Quite simply, this is the Up North place that sets the bar for the competition. It is like an old time supper club with a log cabin exterior, knotty pine interior and really good food. Great Whitefish pate', great fresh water fish and some very impressive cuts of beef. They pour a good drink but the wine list is a tad pedestrian, but deal with it...I do. The servers are pleasant and knowledgible and have names like Billie Jean...who's a great server. A wonderful place. Don't tell any of your friends about this place.

One of the best places in northern Michigan. Will drive 1.5 hours just to eat here! It is just good, no-frills food in a great atmosphere with excellent service.

In the middle of nowhere, but worth the drive: the food, service, and patio view are all very nice.

The drive from Petoskey is killer, but this place proves there is a light at the end of the tunnel. of course I ordered the peppercorn filet, and it came grilled to perfection. Make sure you call for a reservation because although out in the boonies, it still brings a crowd. ask for a table with a view. make it around 8 or 8:30 and you will catch a lovely sunset over Douglas lake. to finish off dinner, order a hummer (ice cream, rum, and other delicious-ness).. complete utopia.

I have eaten here and liked this before. The menu is expensive and I know this coming in, but if the food is good enough (as it was) it is justified. We had a table of 6 later in the evening. Great service and everyone LOVED the food. We also had a great sunset over the lake. I will be back next summer.
