OUTSTANDING SERVICE! My boyfriend and I were driving back from a weekend trip and were looking for a place to eat lunch. This place had great reviews and did not disappoint. The food was great, but the service was truly exceptional. The waitress greeted us and everything was brought to our table promptly. The best part was the involvement and dedication of the owner, who walked around talking to customers asking how their experience was and making sure everything was satisfactory. I had a Chicago dog and fried pickles, and he had Red's Ripper with tater tots. The tots we're crispy and fluffy and fresh of the fryer as were the well seasoned fried pickles. The all beef hot dogs were flavorful and juicy and very filling. Red's homemade root beer was pretty good with lots of vanilla flavor, and a mild sweetness, though not a lot of carbonation. It was served in frosted glass mugs and Red's offers free refills, even on the homemade root beer so my boyfriend was able to take one for the road. Overall, the place has a lovely old fashioned feel to it and the people are friendly and welcoming. If we .re ever in town again we will definitely be back.

Great little place. 50's tunes blasting, friendly owner circulating, tasty burgers and dogs and the best root beer I've ever tasted. A must stop whenever we're traveling 94.
(5)Kristina L.
Love Red's! This is a great locally owned business. You will not be disappointed. My son especially loves to go. We went the last day of school and Red gave a ice cream cone for being a good boy! Great place, with great people.

Saw their advertisement for a veggie dog so I had to stop in to try it! Being vegetarian I usually have to pass up drive ins like this unless I want to eat various fried sides. The waitress was super friendly and accomodating. I got "Red's Veggie Dog Basket" it came with french fries and a side of coleslaw or apple sauce. The hot dog came with ketchup, mustard, onion, and relish on it and was absolutely delicious! The basket costs a little under $7. Very well priced, vegetarian meat items are usually marked way up. Will definitely be making this a regular for lunch time!

How many restaurant have 5 stars after 46 reviews! Reds is becoming a tourist destination. I think some items could be better but this drive in is an experience. Red is sincere and his crew does a great job. This is a blast from the past, enjoy it while we still have the opportunity. Or go down the road where they assemble burger like sandwiches with meat out of a warming drawer and struggle to make change and their way of saying thank you is at best a... "There you go"!
(5)John D.
First time here at Red's and what a great experience. We got root beer , foot long beef dogs , pulled pork and a bacon cheeseburger. Sara our server was polite helpful and made us feel like a local. We opted to eat at the picnic table and enjoyed the music and the sunset.
(5)Silvia R.
We were looking for a place to eat while on the road and we decided to come here as this place had the best Yelp reviews than any other restaurant in the area. We loved the 50's theme and the fact that you can actually eat outside and not in your car if you choose not to. The wait was a little bit long but it's understandable due to the 4th of July weekend. Also, the owner acknowledged everyone and was very friendly which made the wait not so bad. We loved the food and the fact that the burgers are made with good quality meat. The fries were also delicious. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone that loves good food and good service!
(5)Dorine O.
Omg - soooo good - stopped here because of yelp reviews and they were spot on! Great food, service and ambiance (loved the 50's theme and ordering from our car window - always liked the trays that clip on windows! I had the fish sandwich, crispy fries and coleslaw and of course their famous homemade root beer. So good I do hope to drive past this area again hopefully in the future - enjoy!

Stopped here on my most recent trip back to Ann Arbor from Chicago. Service was fast and friendly, and I really enjoyed the overall atmosphere. Food was fine; nothing outstanding. I tried the chicken sandwich, and it was your typical spongy overly processed fried chicken sandwich. Whatever, sometimes that's exactly what you want. Boyfriend had the Italian beef, and while you can get a much better Italian beef in Chicago, Paw Paw isn't exactly Chicago. Fries and cole slaw were both very good. I'm not a huge root beer fan to begin with, but I thought theirs was a bit too creamy tasting, with very little bite. I think it would be great for a root beer float, though, so maybe I'll try that if I stop in again. I love supporting local places like this, so I'll definitely come back if I ever need a quick bite in the Paw Paw area.

Finally a true drive in with the 50's atmosphere and food that surpasses the ambiance. I had a true coney dog steamed bun and dog with perfect coney sauce (no beans), it took me back to the best coney dogs I've ever had. The tater tots were hot and crispy. My wife had the cheese dog with deep fried dill pickle spears. The pickles were breaded lightly and pickle was a nice dill flavor. My daughter had the cheese burger with a side of homemade onion rings. My daughter's words about the onion rings "perfect". The root beer is homemade and served in frosted mugs with free refills. The root beer float has a generous portion of hand scooped ice cream. When you go......which you should.......are you on the road yet?.......Say Hi to Red for me. Thank you Red, I'll be back. Maybe even Sunday on our return trip.
(5)Kira S.
I loved everything about Red's! Red himself came out to greet us and review the menu with us. He couldn't have been more friendly. I ordered the chili dog and a root beer. Both were delicious. The root beer is made fresh every morning and is so creamy and delicious. We ate outside at a picnic table but they offer car side service as well. The staff, the fun, old school ambiance and the fresh, high quality food make this the perfect stop for the Chicago to Detroit trip. My only regret is that I didn't get a root beer float to go! If you're anywhere near Paw Paw you must stop in!
(5)Ed T.
Great place to take the family! Kids loved it, and a great friendly staff made it that much better. Definately a must stop when you in the area!
(5)Chris H.
Man my son loved eating the grass-fed beef cheeseburger Red fed us. The man straight up told us everything about the menu and each item and why it's awesome. Really nice guy! Really nice food! It's a freaking great drive-thru experience and I think everyone should come here! I really recommend it!
(4)Casandra A.
Homemade chili, local fresh meat, great fried pickles, and the food is high quality! This place is a must try! The owner is the sweetest thing, he came put shook my hand, thanked me for coming, and then he realized I had never been there before he gave me a sample of his delicious chili and proceeded to tell me about all the food. He was so excited and proud! He even guaranteed satisfaction or it was free. Overall a great experience and a pleasure
(5)Brandon B.
Popped in here on a whim not knowing what to expect. Was getting out of the truck to go order when I realized it was a car hop joint, really cool. Decided on a Chicago style dog it was fantastic haven't had that good of a dog sense I've actually been in Chicago. The best part of this place is the owner Red himself came out and chatted with me for a bit so I knew the ins and outs of the menu and how he does things. He also gave me a free sample of the chili! Do yourself a favor and get the root beer he sells its homemade deliciousness. Can't say anything better about this place check it out if you are in the area it's great.
(5)Amy F.
Great for kids and grandparents. Kids root beer is free (6 and under). Sat at picnic table and Red himself came and talked with us during our meal. Waitstaff was friendly and quick. I had the Chicago Dog. It was good. Kinda messy but good. Hubby had Italian Beef which he liked.
(5)Ashley R.
Very friendly staff and the food is amazing. Everything you should expect from an old fashioned car hop place. Owner makes sure to visit with his customers and thank them for their service.
(5)Taylor G.
I just love going here. They have great food and some of the nicest staff. The fried pickles are a must eat. The owner will be there sometimes and is very friendly, giving out small samples of certain foods that are on the menu. Love that I can eat in my car. I don't drink pop but when I go here I have to have their rootbeer.
(5)Dave A.
Red's Root Beer is a wonderful root beer and hot dog stand, an old-school drive-in. You can order from the wait person and eat in your car or at one of the picnic tables. Many people call their order in and the food is ready when they pull up! There are several types of dogs. I prefer the Vienna beef dog on the poppy seed bun, but there is also a roll from a local bakery that is very good. The only place I've been that serves tater tots. They are excellent, and their cole slaw is very good, too. The large root beers in a glass mug are very large and they have free refills. My favorite dog is Red's Ripper - a Vienna dog deep-fried until it bursts open and served dressed as you like. I prefer it with mustard and sauerkraut. Wow! The mere thought makes my mouth water! Two of the times I have eaten there, Red himself is there walking around and greeting everyone and shaking hands. That's nice.
(5)Brian S.
The owner himself (Red) stopped by our table at least 2 times to chat and make sure our food and experience was good. Someone who cares about his business this much deserves the support of the community and the success that comes along with that.
(5)Kathy W.
Great service, clean tables and good food. Much better than the fast food we were going to go to. Will stop again.
(5)Tina K.
Very good food and root beer. The owner is very nice and explained everything on the menu. We tried the ripper and the foot long and both were good. They offer free refills on their drinks and samples of their chili.
(5)Steve W.
Stopped here on way Thru Michigan. Always looking for something local. This was definitely it. Don't look for the salad though. Meat for burger is local. They make their own root beer and chili. Both were perfectly done for this local spot. Red,the owner, was walking around checking in with everyone to make sure things were good. He brings the perfect dose of personality to this place. Definitely worth a stop when in the area.
(5)Brian D.
What can I say about Red's. The food was very good, nothing fancy, but good quality dogs at a fair price with homemade root beer. Yummy! I also appreciated how hard the staff worked to make sure we enjoyed our visit and had everything we needed. We went to Red's with three small kids and they provided us some sidewalk chalk to use while we waited for our food. Cute place and if you are in the neighborhood definitely worth a stop.
(5)Jade T.
I have only been here once, but it was a 5-star experience! My boyfriend and I always stop by the Arby's next door on the way to Port Huron. There wasn't much on the menu I could eat, so we were going to find some veggie-friendly grub afterwards. 'Lo and behold. Red's was next door and they were advertising for their veggie dogs. I ordered one and the owner, Red, stopped by, offered David a sample of their delicious chili, and spoke to us. He is a very friendly guy. He seems to care about his customers a lot. He told me that the veggie dog has gotten many rave reviews, despite skepticism from omnivores. The veggie dog was DELISH! The bun was steamed soft. The veggie dog didn't taste like the ones I've had from the grocer. It was actually kind of juicy. The traditional hotdog toppings (relish, onions, mustard, and ketchup) made it taste like the real deal. I could salivate just thinking about their veggie dog. If you are ever in the area, Red's is definitely worth stopping by. There are many other things on the menu and the service is very friendly (not only Red). It's a drive-in style (think Sonic) establishment, so you don't even need to get out of your car!
(5)Nessie V.
A nice little drive-in and drive-through. Great root beer. Great fries. Great onion rings. The root beer had a nice deep flavor. The o rings had a great batter that was nice and thin. I too, met the owner, and he was SUPER nice and friendly. Said he owned the place for two years, and worked hard to make each item the best he could. I believe it.
(5)Tobin h.
First impression? Great service with a wonderful Family owned atmosphere. Stopped by this drive-inn with a recommendation in hand on our way home from K'zoo and we were happy with the suggestion. The entire family loved the experience and thought the food was good with solid value. We mixed a couple chili dogs with chicken fingers, fries, and house root beer. The waitress on Sunday 4/14/14 at 11:15 Am was awesome and makes it easy to post a positive review. If there is one concern, it would be the quality of the actual hot dog. Seemed as if the hot dog itself was bought from a cheap vendor with only profit in mind. The flavor of the chili and cheese covered the mediocre quality of the hot dog but the experience in it's entirety will make this an easy destination on our Sunday morning trips back to Chicago (from the Detroit area) after visiting Family. Nothing wrong with hitting Red's before a stop at St. Julian's winery for a few bottles of wine and a handle of the Grape vodka.
(4)Tj S.
Loved the Chicago dog! Well worth the price makes the root beer stand in kalamazoo look really bad.
(5)Alex R.
Great food, great atmosphere, friendly staff, and best of all--the best root beer I've ever had. Everybody should stop here!
(5)Brenda D.
My Husband and I just moved into the area. We have always enjoyed finding new restaurants, so, this move presents an awesome opportunity!! We were in PawPaw to do some banking, and, decided to get lunch before heading home!! Even though there were plenty of chain restaurants available, keeping to our tradition, we chose Red's!! Boy, were we glad we did!! The dogs were amazing, and the rootbeer was served in a frosty mug, and, was delicious!! We definitely plan on being repeat customers!!
(5)Klo J.
Hot diggity dawg! It's especially easy to ignore the surrounding chain joints when you see this menu - dogs galore, homemade root beer,deep-fried pickles, yummy burgers and more! It's mostly all local and all-natural too!!! Red is out there bustin' his buns for you everyday! It's refreshing to see such a passionate businessman n' chef care so much about his customers. Red for President!
(5)James C.
This is the best drive-in option in the area. Chicago dog is great and I appreciate the diet root beer option. The owner is usually on site and cares that his customers have a good experience.
(4)Stephen Y.
Ended up in Paw Paw while visiting the South Haven area and just found Red's randomly. So great that Red was introducing himself to the customers (as cited in many other reviews) and we were very happy with our meals. Root beer had a wonderful vanilla taste (didn't miss the 'bite' of most commercial root beer) and I really appreciated that refills were free (had a few mugs, then was offered a to-go cup when we were ready to depart). Was it the best meal I've ever had? No, but the ambiance, service and food quality made it a must visit whenever I'm in the area again.
(5)Dale H.
Better Chicago style hot dogs than I can get in most places in and around Chicago! Root beer is delicious, service was awesome! Another must when I make my annual trip to Paw Paw!
(4)Bruce S.
Does not disappoint, this is the real deal! Old Fashion rootbeer stand. Dogs, Burgers (local beef), daily made beef chili, car hop waitresses and soundtrack from late 50's thru 60's. You will not be disappointed.
(5)Anita S.
Stopped in on our way home from Detroit. This place is right off the highway, which is always a plus on longer trips. Red, the owner, greeted us, was very personable, helpful, and full of stories about his place (he took over 4 years ago). This is a drive-in (think A&W Root Beer) where they put the trays on your window of your car. You can also sit outside at picnic tables. The whole area is very clean and crisp. Our waitress was very nice, and our food arrived in a short time. We had the pulled pork, Red Hots hot dog, and cheeseburgers. All were excellent. We definitely will be stopping by here on our way through.
(5)Jack K.
Good root beer &the pork sandwich was pretty good. I want to come back &try the olive burger.
(4)Foodie M.
We stopped in for a quick snack while on a short weekend trip. The rootbeer was only okay -- like another review I didn't feel it had enough bite. I had it as a rootbeer float and it was still yummy, though not my favorite rootbeer ever. Having said that, their onion rings are awesome. Way better than anything you'd ever find at a chain fast food place. We were also impressed because Red himself stopped by the car (it's a drive-in) to introduce himself and tell us more about Red's and their commitment to quality. Then he insisted we try the chili, and brought us out some samples. We liked his vibe and will be back when we're in town again!
(4)Doug M.
4.5 stars out of 5. The root beer is alright, but is lacking a bite. The chili or coney island sauce is really good. Like the best around. Friendly service and generous portions Stop in if your in Paw Paw. Just off the highway so its convenient. Nice old fashioned drive-in service, almost like Dog-N-Sud's if you know what I mean.
(4)Ron K.
I don't get the opportunity to patronize this joint very often but anytime I'm passing Paw Paw and I'm ready for a meal, I stop in and say hi to Red (he actually roams around the serving area saying hello to all of the customers). Good food, fair prices. Fantastic home-made root beer. Very personable owner with a friendly attitude. Stop in and say hi to Red & the girls.
(5)Ryan G.
Stopped in Paw Paw to grab a bite to eat. Saw this place and had to try it. Got the Chicago dog, fries, coleslaw and root beer. Chicago dog is authentic and was amazing. The hot dog itself is top notch. Good fries. Homemade root beer was good and had an old fashion flavor. If I lived close I would eat here often. If you ever stop by Paw Paw check it out.
(4)Patrick A.
Really good root beer and the BBQ pulled pork sandwich is killer!
(5)Neil R.
Truly outstanding! Just a few feet beyond the typical fast-food garbage is this oasis of excellent food and service like you wish you could always get. A true family operation with customer service that goes above and beyond. Red himself offered us tastes of the chili, onion rings, and sweet potato fries (all excellent) - then he pardoned himself to go jump-start another customer's car. "Happens all the time" he explained, since people at the drive-up love to play music or run the a/c. He returned to us, saw our kids, then took off back into the store only to emerge with a hot dog, ketchup, and mustard costumes! It became a highlight of our road trip! The food? The home-made root beer was creamy and delicious, an and my cherry bratwurst was sweetly flavored, perfectly cooked, and served with grilled onions topping off a sandwich I wish I could eat again. You must stop here!
(5)John T.
To hell with all the franchise establishments that surround this jewel. The service and food is amazing and the root beer is the best I have tasted.
(5)j i.
johnsonville brat basket homemade root beer. awesome. old school drive up with window mounted food baskets. the waitresses don't have roller skates, but I'm glad to see that an old classic is kept alive.
(5)Rachel D.
Food is very good!!! Very friendly and personable. Highly recommended!!
(5)kelly w.
when you wish upon a star... you best be wishing for finding a place like this old school car hop. Some have even been quoted as saying, "After visiting the rootbeer stand, I wouldn't care if someone just told me my dog died." The rootbeer is delish, but ask for ice if you want a frosty one. I also never knew someone could make such a magical experience from a crinkle cut fry.. the grease, the spice.. it was all perfect. This place puts Paw Paw on the map as far as I am concerned.
(5)Chris H.
Found Red's while on a road trip with a bunch of family to a wedding in Paw Paw and boy what luck! Super cool drive-in, tray on you window, root beer coney dog joint. We sat at the picnic tables under the big awning and it was just perfect. The staff was friendly (we met a few too!) the food was picture perfect very tasty. I had the coney basket and loved it. They make their own root beer that has a slight vanilla taste that is also delicious. Our whole family had fun and enjoyed.
(5)Dawn W.
The food here is very good. We just came back from a trip to Chicago and felt this food was just as good without the drive. They have homemade rootbeer which is fun and the owner even came to our car to check on our service and make food suggestions. It was busy and hopping for lunch. We were so glade we stopped here and not the chain restaurants next door. The only negative is the price. The dogs are about twice the cost of the famous ones in Chicago. I guess with no local competition they can charge customers more.
(4)Shawn B.
Considering I live only a short drive from here it's really unbelievable that this was my first visit. It's actually my daughter who's been begging for me to take her after she stopped with friends once before. So after a day at the beach we be ventured over for lunch. Service was very quick and friendly, all the servers looked to be younger high school age kids which made their service more impressive. Friendly, attentive, and always buzzing around clearing tables, trash, even sweeping in the lot. Kids had hot dogs, fries, and onion rings, and they enjoyed every bite. I tried the diet root beer, very good, and a Chicago Dog. It was fantastic, just the right amount of everything with a very delicious poppy seed bun. The menu is huge and we'll be back again to try more. I highly recommend giving Reds a try!
(5)Alexis B.
Awesome old fashioned hot dog stand! Drive up and dine in your car or sit at a picnic table in front of your car. 50s music, cold root beer mugs, and truly good hotdogs and fries. I got the Chicago Style pictured. Yum! This will now be a must on our trips to Chicago!
(5)Josh P.
Reds is a great hot dog stand, just a little pricey for hot dogs. Service is excellent, and the homemade root beer is very good. Just need to restructure the pricing.
(3)Jonathan R.
Believe it or not, Red's in Paw Paw, MI deserves the 5 stars! How rarely have you seen, or eaten at, a YELP! 5-star restaurant? Face it America, a great hot dog is every bit as satisfying as a gourmet meal. So especially if you limit hot dogs, and no doubt if you live on 'em, if you are between Chicago and Detroit on I-94, stop at Red's Root Beer in Paw Paw, and you will have a special hot dog occasion. Throwback to old-fashioned drive-in hospitality and energy is a given. But the food is king here, too. Grew up on Chicago dogs and always start there, and have lived in Michigan with good Detroit and Flint Coneys. But decided to gamble, and won with the house special Red's Deluxe. This is one dog that is not only delicious, but different without trying too hard. Just try it. A different take, but true to heritage. And, one of the best buns I've seen to carry the load, including a great smoked Vienna dog, shredded pickles, diced tomato and onion, mustard and a little bit of mayo. Also: Home made root beer, check. Fries are crispy and hot and stay that way. So while Red's may be in the fruit belt of Michigan, don't forget the food group that includes hot dogs.
(5)kristina S.
Loved this place! We were driving through Michigan and I saw this stand. The food was great and the service was amazing! My mom was visiting from Europe and she definitely enjoyed the experience. Even my dogs got to try some delicious hot dogs. I would definitely stop by there again! Just feels authentic!
(5)Michelle O.
Always great food and outstanding service. Fun family atmosphere with good oldies playing. We enjoyed sitting at the picnic table with the whole family.
(5)Daniel W.
Excellent food and service. We had a cheeseburger and chilli dog which was delicious, the root beer float is loaded with ice cream. Red personally came out to greet us and thank us for coming. Five Stars!!!!
(5)Rachel L.
Very cute spot. Being originally from Chicago I am going to obviously be critical and the food here is good. Doesn't remind me of an Italian beef or hot dog I'd get in Chicago but it's good all the same. The owner is the nicest person on the planet. Very hands on. Introduces himself to every car and will explain everything on the menu. The reason this place gets 2 stars because they always forget something in my to go orders. I have a big family and usually order 6 meals. They always forget a hot dog, burger or something. When I call and notify them they are very apologetic but sorry won't feed my starving 5 year old. They also offer a credit...again, not helpful in the moment. What I want is for people to check the order and make sure it's complete before bringing it to me. Also, very expensive. Over $7 for a Chicago dog, fries and drink??? Can get it for $4 in Chicago
(2)Patrick J.
Awesome place. Stopped in to grab a quick bite before hitting the road and was pleasantly surprised. A very nice Waitress came right up and we placed our order, shortly after we met red. He is the nicest guy. It is refreshing to meet someone with that much pride in his business. Food came quick and was delicious. The fried mushrooms were the best I've had. Perfect chilly for a nice thick hot dog. My daughter ate all her chicken strips with out having to tell her so I assume they were good. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone in the area and I will for sure be stopping in again next time I'm driving through.
