We visited Taits on a cold Saturday night in December and we had the place pretty much to ourselves. The service was great and the food was OK. We tried the the baked brie, the millennium soup, and the crab bisque, the fried perch and prime rib. I loved the millennium soup and the prime rib. My husband enjoyed his bisque but was a little disappointed in the perch - it was a bit too heavily breaded for his taste. The portions are HUGE! It was enjoyable but not spectacular. The real winner is the service.

If your travels take you to Oscoda, then I would highly recommend a stop at this gem of a restaurant for lunch or dinner. Our dinner party of four arrived at 8:15 pm on a Saturday Night. We were promptly greeted at the door by the hostess and sat immediately. Our Server Amber was at our table within one minute. She was one of the best servers we ever had. She explained the specials that night and took our drink orders. She was very knowledgeable about that night's specials and made recommendations regarding our wine selection. We ordered the home-made Campanile for an appetizer, which was eggplant and olives with toasted pita chips. It was delicious. Three of us ordered the prime rib special, and the fourth person ordered the ribs. All dinner entrees come with soup, salad, bread, green beans AND your choice of potato. We all had the Millenium soup, which was a white cheddar base with a dollop of black bean soup in the middle. We all agreed it was one of the best soups we ever ate. Salads arrived next, which consisted of spring mix greens, two tomatoes, cucumbers and grated cheese. Most of their salad dressings are home-made. Three of us had the Parmesan peppercorn, which was outstanding. Our entries arrived timely and everything was hot. Our Server Amber made sure everything was cooked to our liking and she made several trips to our table to refill our water glasses. The prime rib was delicious and was a generous portion, especially since we had also eaten soup, salad and bread. The green beans and potatoes were cooked perfectly. The ribs were also very good. For dessert, we shared a slice of their lemon mousse, which was light and favorable. When we left, the Owner walked us out and we thanked him for a delicious meal. We were very impressed with Tait's and will definitely we back again soon. The service and food were excellent. Their prices are very reasonable too. They are also known for their chicken and perch dinners. Their lunch menu had everything from pita wraps to burgers too. All in all, a great dining experience at Tait's. Well done!

Celebrated with a gift certificate to Taits last evening. My wife had the perch dinner . I savored the prime rib special. We arrived at the peak of Saturday night serving and in the middle of a banquet next door of 40 people.. Once that sorted out we settled in for a fine meal, cooked to perfection with a bottle of Merlot accompanying. Waitress was appropriately apologetic , food was excellent. We'll be back.

We came here with screaming kids for lunch and the owner was super accommodating and helpful. He pulled out a bag of crayons and toy cars to distract them. Meal was excellent. My wife ordered the beef sandwich and it was delicious. I had the the club sandwich with kraut on it which was great. Definitely come back here.

Located in downtown Oscoda, Tait's Bill of Fare looks like one of those places that has been there forever, and with no offense, the décor of the restaurant shows. The carpet was dirty, and the décor is super dated. My coworkers and I went during what normally would be the dinner rush, yet when we got there, there was only 1 extra table of guests. Seeing that it's not busy at all, I wasn't surprised there wasn't a hostess at the front foyer waiting to seat us. But I know the bartender saw us, because the bar was in a separate room, closer to the door, and we made eye contact with a bartender. You'd think she would tell someone there are guests in the front waiting to be seated. After waiting for about 10 minutes in a more or less deserted restaurant, we were finally seated. The fresh (albeit not hot) bread was served very quickly. I ordered the Millenium Soup, which is a white cheddar soup with black beans. Even for a person that doesn't like beans, such as myself, the soup was actually quite good. My dinner was the Chicken Especiale. Apparently that's the house special. The server certainly didn't steer me wrong when I asked for a suggestion. It was 2 pieces of fried parmesan crusted chicken breasts that were super succulent, served with a choice of potatoes/rice and veggies. The mashed potatoes were "real" and yummy. I hate it when it's totally obvious that the mashed potatoes are made with fake potato flakes from a box (i.e. school cafeteria style). Eww! Other than the service mishap at the beginning when we weren't seated right away, the service was great. It was definitely worth the extra 13 miles drive away from East Tawas to go there. Although I really don't care about the décor of the restaurant because the taste of the food matters so much more to me, I know other people would. To the restaurant owner - It may be worth the time and money to jazz it up a bit. Just sayin'.

In town where the taco bell is getting 4 stars and the majority of resturants have take out windows Tait's is a nice suprise. The food seems to be fresh and not frozen or prepackaged. I went thier twice over a long weekend and wasnt disapponited either time. The first time I got the pork tenerloin which had a nice flavor from the marinade and wasnt dried out. The second time I a filet and it was pretty good. I critical about getting steaks at restaurants becuase I feel I can cook a better one at home for half the price, but this really wasn't bad. The prices are reasonable. For oscado this should probably get 5 stars. If your in town and looking for a meal thats you dont order by number, check out Tait's

I gave three stars only because of the good food. The waitress was just ok. While there only a few minutes the owner came up to our table and told my two year old with a speech problem to use her inside voice. Considering she has no clue what he is asking her i was already annoyed. But just to basically imply to tell my child to shut up was more rude. The prices are over priced for the area, sorry my child ruined some ones dinner by wanting to talk in a restaurant. I would never go back.

Very good food! Small, Northern Michigan town restaurants do not tend to be as updated as metro-Detroit area restaurants. But this one was nice and had very good food. The salad was delicious - mixed greens and no iceberg. Prime rib was good. The ribs were delicious. The crab soup was excellent. Bread was plain, but warm. A good choice.

Staff and owner are a joke. But the food is not and keeps it somewhat respectable. Good choice for lunch, 50/50 on dinner if you can tolerate idiots. Especially the dumb blonde waitresses..

Obviously other reviewers have back woods taste. Tait's is by far the BEST restaurant on the sunrise side. I can't believe that anyone could have had a negative experience here because we've only ever had excellent ones. The food is delicious and very reasonably priced. The service is stellar--friendly and attentive, and the owner personally checks on all the tables. We look forward to visiting every year. Don't miss Tait's!

I have been to this restaurant many times over the years, and it never disappoints. I have recommended it to others and always get rave reviews. The decor is classy, but hasn't been updated since it opened and could use a little sprucing up. The service has always been top notch. But the important thing is the food. The food is wonderful. The Millennium Soup is creamy and delicious. I've had fish, steaks and chicken dishes here in the past and they were always delicious. Definitely want to stop in here if you want an upscale dining experience.

Went here for dinner on a quiet Saturday in late October, after a fine autumn drive along the AuSable. Located on a side street just off the main drag through Oscoda, we did have a bit of a problem finding the place, but probably only because we aren't familiar with the town. We were seated in one of the private alcoves at the back of the dining room. Nice! Would be a good spot for a romantic dinner. The waitstaff was in costume, due to the approaching halloween holiday. Our waitress was friendly and took time to explain the night's specials to us. I opted for prime rib, the wife had salmon with a peach buerre blanc sauce. Salads were large, fresh and crisp with a variety of greens and veggies. House made dressings were also excellent. A fresh warm bread loaf with whipped honey butter was also served. The dinners themselves were very good, the prime rib cooked exactly as ordered and some pungent sharp horseradish sauce on the side. Vegetables served with dinner were done to perfection and there was a wide selection of accompanying starches to go with. My mashed potatoes were good. My wife was very pleased with the salmon entree as well as the risotto potatoes. Desserts looked scrumptious, but there was no room! Service was attentive and friendly, and the manager was circulating the room, stopping to chat at each table, making sure all was well. This restaurant was a pleasant surprise and not at all the typical "up-north" type dining experience. We will certainly return whenever we're back in the area. Be sure to drive the few blocks down to the Oscoda beach park after your meal. You may just get to see a spectacular Lake Huron sunset as we did. The low sun setting to the west was illuminating the stormy October clouds above the lake in every imaginable shade of pink, purple, and orange! Pure MIchigan and a sublime alternative to the dessert we skipped at the restaurant!

My husband and I thought dinner here was very good! We had a cheddar & black bean soup which was just incredible! The salad dressings are all homemade. I had London Broil, which was awesome...he had fish, which he thought was great! Do not miss this jewel!

Very Pleasant place to dine. My only complaint is to think the menu/specials would have changed after a year.

Your choices are limited in oscoda. It is quite a challenge. Pick the ribs. I had a sampler and it was great. I selected cod for my dinner with breadcrumbs. No go. Select ribs. The salad dressings are homemade. I had ranch it was good. I also had a soup and that was pretty good. My husband had London broil. No go. Get ribs. My son had kids hamburger and this was ok. Service was awesome. Friendly.

Not bad. Went for lunch with a big group. My Paul Bumyan was ok, we also had the French Dip which was excellent. Kids liked the burgers. Service was good.

You can choose anything on the menu and have a great meal at Tait's. My personal faves are the Chicken Marsala with baked sweet potato or the Ribs. Best soups are the house soup Millennium or the cream of crab. Most of their salad dressings are house made and service is always great here.

Our favorite restaurant in Oscoda!! We have enjoyed many meals here, never disappointed! The decor is nice and the staff very friendly. For a good meal, including soup, salad, and bread..very reasonably priced. Every time I visit, I must have the Millenium soup...incredible! A cheddary soup with a dollop of black bean soup in the middle.....don't mix, as the waitress will tell you..just let each bite give you a taste of both. Yum! Their salads are always crisp and fresh, homemade dressings delicious!! For entrees, I love their chicken especialle, their whitefish, anything!! I also love to try their specials of the day. Every time we have been there, the owner has stopped by the tables to make sure everyone is enjoying their meals. Nice touch!! Like them on Facebook, you can get their daily lunch specials!!

The food was very good and the service was excellent. My wife said that she cannot remember when she had Prime Rib that was that good that night. It is an older place with no "Sports Bar" atmosphere, but if you are looking for friendly service and good food (like we were), I would recommend going there. We went to the AuSable Inn the previous night (where we had been going for many years) and was very disappointed with the overall experience. The bartender was very rude, the overall service was below average, and the food was OK.

Wonderful restaurant. Today was my second time here. Had the perch which was very nicely prepared and served with fresh veggies. My friend had a wonderful chicken dish with risotto potatoes. Both dinners served with delicious house soup and mixed green salad, none of that iceberg junk. All dressings are homemade. Finished dinner with a smooth cup of fresh coffee. Price for 2 dinners and 2 drinks apiece was reasonable. Will be back again! Best restaurant in Oscoda.

Very good lunch spot in lovely downtown Oscoda. The soups alone are worth the trip! I had the Swiss onion with a basil chicken sandwich. The other two soups looked amazing, as well. The service was very good. The owner was there to ensure everything met expectations. After reading some earlier reviews, I wasn't expecting the great service. A little quirky, maybe, but not bad!

This is a wonderful little restaurant in downtown Oscoda, a town with few good choices of eateries. I started out the meal with a delicious cup of tomato soup and had to refrain from licking the cup clean. My fillet was melt in your mouth delicious! I chose the baked sweet potato, which was also good, but could have been a little larger. I loved the salad, a fresh mix of greens, cukes, & tomato with a tasty balsamic vinaigrette. The green beans did not impress. My husband had mouth watering and meaty ribs. We really enjoyed the fresh bread with honey butter that accompanied our meal. The menu had many delicious options which we will definitely go back to try.The specials sounded great and were reasonably priced. If you enjoy fine dining, this is the place to come.
