The atmosphere was lovely. Check out the lighted orchids on the back wall. The service was super friendly. And food was great. We ordered everything from curry puffs and papaya salad to pad thai and green curry. It was all fresh and prepared well. And the prices were on par, at about $9 for most dishes.

Amazing atmosphere and food. My sister-in-law is Thai and the food is the most authentic you will find (which is why we were trying it out, the rest of the Thai restaurants in Greater Lansing leave much to be desired). Quality is amazing with fresh ingredients and beautiful plating. The place is cute cozy.

This place put a smile on my face! Can't believe it's been here for 6 months and I didn't know about it. Everyone working was extremely friendly and the laid back atmosphere made for a truly enjoyable experience. The food was delicious and well worth the price. Highly recommended.

What can I say that hasn't been said? Not much, but adding my 2 cents anyhow. I have rarely had Thai food, so I don't know how it compares to other Thai food, but I can tell you the two times I have been here, it's been a pleasant meal and I enjoyed my food. Thai Princess is very small, although the seating is comfortable. The staff have all been very friendly, the restaurant itself seems very clean, the food is always plated very nicely with artistic touches, and I love the decor. So what's not good? Well, I liked the food...but I can't say I love it enough to come back often. My vegan/vegetarian friends love it, though, so I go with them. I've always gone for lunch, so I don't know about dinner, but I would assume this could be a very nice cozy, romantic place to take a date. To me, their food is more gourmet... I am absolutely not a professional so maybe that is not the best choice of words. Let me explain - like I said, the dishes are plated very artistically, the colors of the food are very bold, bright veggies and fruits, pleasing to the eye, not messy. I remember both times not feeling as if I got a lot of food, but maybe that is just me and my big butt wanting more. Not that it was skimpy, but not what you see in most Oriental restaurants... so big you have leftovers. I never had leftovers and was hungry again within a couple of hours. The first time we went, my mom was with us and she raved about the ladies room and said we all had to go. *laugh* So expecting something amazing ("like Heaven, it has a gold floor!"), I laughed when I went to look... I imagined it a little different... like a stripper floor...imagine gold confetti....but I didn't see a pole anywhere! The sink "bowl" was very nice and elegant though. :) So that's the only place not upscale in the restaurant...and maybe it's a Thai thing? I don't know, maybe it was just me. Sorry... I had to share this last bit because my mom passed away last year and I miss her fun spirit and it still makes me laugh when I think about it!

We'd been complaining that there was no good Thai food in the area, and then we discovered this place -- so amazing!! It's better to eat in the restaurant than to get take-out, mostly because the atmosphere and service are excellent. My favorites are the Pad Thai and the Massaman Curry, but they have such a good selection, and everything that we've gotten there has been quite tasty!

Elegant, contemporary, striking decor. Delicious, varied, inspired, flavorful, and visually appealing cuisine. Thai Princess goes straight to the head of the class for Lansing area Thai food. Very welcoming, attentive staff make you feel as if you're a guest in their home. Tom Yum, curries, pad thai, appetizers, each as good as the next. Welcome Thai Princess!

I was happy to see a new thai restaurant open in the Lansing area. The dining room is cozy and the high point of the decor is warm brown fabric used on the chairs and pillow backs on the booths. The geometric drop ceiling is kind of funky too. Our food was fresh and really well prepared. We ordered crispy spring rolls to start, and while the spring rolls were standard, the dipping sauce was a delicious spicy-sweet. For our entrees we ordered pad thai, green curry and pad mixed vegetables. All three were really good. My family found the green curry too spicy, but I thought it was the perfect amount of spiciness. The pad mixed vegetables were filled with a variety of fresh vegetables. And the pad thai was better than any I'd had in the Lansing area. Prices were reasonable and portions were big - for three large entrees and an appetizer, our bill was $34. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars was the quality of the pad see ew I ordered on a later visit - the noodles were stuck together and a little gummy, but the flavor was good.

Favorite thai restaurant in the greater lansing area. I take anyone who visits me either here or the soup spoon for dinner. The spring rolls with shrimp are the perfect appetizer for two but you could easily eat all three of them a full meal if you were hungry enough. ALSO gluten free! The entree I always get is the Peanut curry with chicken. I should branch out but its just sooo good with the egg plant, pepper, green beans, thai basil and chicken. YUM! The rice is also delivery in the shape of a heart. Nice touch. They recent expanded and decreased they're portion sizes from "enough to get full in the restaurant and have left overs" to "perfect size for dinner". If you want bigger portions get the food to go and ask for extra rice.

I am told that thai princess is one of the better thai food places around the East Lansing/Okemos area. Solid 3-stars: "A-OK". Pad thai was a difference style then west coast style, where there is an abundance of thai food. Fairly decent, but nothing spectacular that I would go out of my way for. Their 'fresh rolls with shrimp', commonly know as 'spring rolls', although they had that labeled something different, lacked a whole lot of meat. Shrimp was as thinly cut as possible, so hardly worth the $2.50 / roll price. Decor was alright for a tacky thai place, however the tables were horribly small. My knees kept hitting the table when I moved around, which, by the way, was also not bolted down to the floor. Maybe I'm just a little to big to be eating at thai princess... Overall, fairly average eatery, nothing that really amazed me yet from this place. If I was shopping closeby, I may decide to sample other things on their menu, however at this point I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here.

Food used to be decent so was the service. The last two times I've been there I've had really bad experiences. I got a piece of glass in my food the first time and it was uncooked the second time; and both times the food was cold. Staff is not very welcoming nor do they ask you if the food is ok or refill your glass of water and I can keep going; basically you need to ask for everything. And if for any reason you complain about your food being cold, uncooked or not good they will try to argue with you why it's fine and they can't do anything about it. Rather when I showed them that piece of glass which I found on biting the tofu he said "oh it might be from the box" and took the glass away. 10 mins later he came to me and asked me if I wanted my dish changed, after I said yes I got back a really cold dish with raw veggies in it. And the billing; they charge you for asking them for getting a little extra curry in a dish which comes to you dry and is actually is supposed to be a curry dish. I've asked them every time to make the curry dishes with a little more curry so it's not a dry dish and has some curry in it (how it's supposed to be) and they charged me $4 extra for a dish which is $11.99 which is honestly ridiculous (for some curry, rather to cook the food properly). Quality of food here is horrible, I fell sick the last time I went there and I know I wouldn't be going there again neither will I recommend this place to anyone.

If you prefer American Thai food, try Thai Princess that may "wow" you. If you like authentic Thai food or want to know how real Thai food tastes like, AVOID this place. Their food portion is getting smaller and smaller. You can tell they didn't put much effort on improving the food taste, but on the interior decoration and different ways to attract customers to earn more money.

I went here for dinner this evening. I hadn't been to Thai Princess for about a year. They have since expanded their dining area and the interior looks great. I actually got takeout. It took about fifteen minutes for them to whip up the dishes I ordered. Previously my beef with Thai Princess was that their food was never spicy enough. It was very Americanized with good flavor but not that heat. Before even when I asked for more curry paste, the dishes still remained barely spicy. Today, I ordered the red curry and Masaman curry with chicken. I wanted them both Thai hot and they delivered! Very spicy just how I like it. The food was really good and I'm glad they are now being more heavy handed with the curry if you so desire.

I am a huge fan of good Thai food and often eat it when I travel; I know what's authentic Thai (light, spice-balanced, full flavored, not greasy) and what's Americanized (greasy, oily dishes with huge portions). Thai Princess makes what, in my opinion, is the only authentic Thai food in the greater Lansing area. Ambiance is small but cozy and carefully designed with an interesting flower arrangement on the glass wall with LED's that change color and illuminate the water in the jars. Lunch is cheap and delicious. The spicy Tom Yum soup is fantastic, the Spring Rolls are delicate and leave very little oil residue - and most importantly, the veggies are steaming fresh and the outer crust of the roll is piping hot yet delicately thin when you bite into them. You can often see the team of cooks hand rolling the spring rolls and crab rangoons in off-peak hours on one of the far back tables. They're incredibly clean and artful even in their cooking. You really are getting fresh spring rolls. And then there's the Thai salad - which is crisp and chilled so the greens have that perfect crunch to them, and the peanut dressing has a slight kick, with real peanut crumbles tossed in, and nuanced oriental spice flavors that build and dance together as the sauce works its way through your mouth. The Pad Thai is light and fluffy, filled with many harmonious flavors (think freshly food processed tamarind, fresh citrus juice, homemade fish sauce, palm sugar, green onion, carrots, and freshly cracked egg), and a meat of your choice pan-grilled to perfection. As you eat, there is no oily residue left on your plate either. And to boot, there generous amounts of artfully posed vegetable garnishes that resemble delicate oriental flowers on the side of your plate. It's so beautifully presented that I often feel the need to take a picture. I almost feel bad eating it ... almost. Ha. In a word, for local Thai fans in EL & Okemos, Thai Princess is a treasure.

Thai Princess probably has the best Thai food in the Lansing Metropolitan area. It's the most authentic (by a long shot). And they make probably the best Crab Rangoon I've ever had. They just expanded the restaurant in order to double their seating capacity (which is good). That said, their ambiance is great; it's a warm cozy place with a well uniformed staff. My only complaints are that you really wind up paying for that ambiance. The bill is otherwise non-sensibly more expensive than their competitors particularly since their serving sizes are significantly smaller. That being the case I give them a 4/5 instead of a perfect 5/5.

Thai iced tea was great, just a little bit too sweet, but definitely should try. The avocado in salad was fantastic. And I tried the green curry with medium spicy, however, I want to try mild next time. Cuz I love curries with their own flavor.

My husband and I have stopped in for lunch several times. It includes salad, soup and a spring roll. It's a nice break for us for the long drive home. The food is flavorful, fresh, and well balanced. My husband who isn't a terribly adventurous eater loves it and is always up for a trip here, and my more picky, authentic aesthetic is similarly pleased. Their pad Thai is neither suspiciously pink nor gloopy, it's fresh and flavorful and the noodles are perfect and bouncy. Their curries are amazing, and their thai tea is one of the best. I've stolen bites of my husband's fried rice, which was wonderful. The cooks really have their technique down, and the cooking here avoids all the pitfalls of the usual Americanized fare. It's a definite favorite for us, beautifully decorated, great food, and wonderful customer service.

It's the best Thai in Lansing! The fried ice cream is amazing... and you can have duck as your meat!

Best Thai food in the greater Lansing area! Very authentic with a wide range of menu options. Freshness, restaurant atmosphere and friendly staff above all others in area. Price is a bit high on some dishes but it always feels worth the purchase. Try the pad thai, coconut soup and thai sweet coffee.

I ordered lunch here with a few co-workers to go a few weeks ago and the food was just "eh." The lunch entree comes with a side salad, soup, and a an egg roll for ~$9. Pad Thai-lacked flavor, no peanuts Pad See Ew- lacked flavor, dry, almost no sauce Salad-nothing special, a little gingery for my taste Soup-tom yum soup that was pretty tastey Egg Roll-standard egg roll, good The food was just not flavorful and I wouldn't come back

Chili crusted chicken with peppers, onion, and other exotic things I can't pronounce. Served with white rice in the shape of a cute heart. Nice touch. The ice tea had what I believe was sweet cream added. The cream floated at the top and when stirred made for a wonderful visual thru the glass. Different languages were spoken by the other dinners. Made for a adventurous experiance. A hidden jewel in Meridian Township.

Five stars. Service: the service was wonderful. The waitress was very sweet and nice and just wonderful even though I kept asking for stuff. Food: incredible. I had the chicken pad Thai and an order of steamed dumplings. Both were very delicious. The only thing I would say is the portions seemed a bit small for the price. But the Thai tea was very tasty and perfect! My first time coming here, but I probably will come back when I have someone to impress. Their plating is beautiful.

This place has potential. I've been here twice. The first time, I was disappointed... as an earlier reviewer pointed out, the food here is WAY to sweet. The default spice levels suit a more Americanized palate. Even the tom yum soup was weirdly sweet, and the dipping sauce for the spring rolls was viscous and sticky like corn syrup. PRO TIP: ASK if they can make the dishes LESS SWEET, especially if you like more traditional Thai flavors. The second time I went, I asked for more spice/less sweet. My red curry came out just the way it should taste: very spicy, rich, a little sweet, a little sour. If you don't ask, though, you'll get the default cloyingly sweet, not very spicy food. Also they are super nice about adjusting the seasoning it if you ask. I still think they could improve their dishes a little by giving more rice/noodles in some of the dishes and it's a on the pricey side for what you get. But I'm still really happy to see some more options here in the Lansing area.

The Thai Princess was really a nice treat while visiting Lansing. There was quick service with seating. I saw a couple people come in with the same kind of confusion I had upon initially entering the restaurant. There is a desk like area but you are approached from staff encountering you from the back of the main eating area. Kind of odd set up.You're initially left trying to figure out if you should seat yourself. The food was very good and there was close attention to refilling glasses. I had the Mango shrimp entree and it was good. I also had coconut juice which is something I'm very used to drinking. I loved the thick pieces of coconut flesh that was in my drink. The spring rolls were really good too.I had left overs and in studying the menu there was plenty of items I'd try should I have to travel to the area again. The waiter was attentive enough and provided detail of the meals when questioned. gave 4 stars because I've eaten at better Thai restaurants so I'm rating this restaurant on what I know to be my experience.

Very friendly staff (always smiling) and small size makes Thai Princess stand out. The food is top-rate Thai and is well prepared. Portion sizes are appropriate. When in Lansing, this local favorite restaurant is worth a visit.

Went to Thai Princess on Valentine's Day. When the waiter brought out my drink, there was a little heart sticker on the straw wrapper that he made sure to turn so I could read that it said "love" on it. The rice was pressed into a heart shape, and the spring roll dish was heart-shaped, too! It was a delightful experience. Great service. Delicious food! The pad thai was the best I've ever had!

Good solid Thai food if a little inconsistent. Rard Na Kee Mao: the sauce is garlicky, not as spicy as I expected - but you can ask for chili paste and that made it all better. I do so wish that they'd bake or crisp the tofu. The Thai basil was surprisingly tasteless, although there was quite a bit of it (in unappetizing clumps). There were also some random hunks of other vegetables - couple of pepper strips, couple cauliflower florets, some cabbage. I don't know whether that was intentional or accidental, as those vegetables are not on the menu description. Salty. Jungle curry: Tasty, but the eggplant was tough and bitter. We picked it out. Salty. Fresh roll: good. Lacked the avocado indicated on the menu, but still good with crispy veggies. And here was my baked tofu! The sauce tasted more like a hoisin than the tamarind indicated on the menu. Tom yum gai: Oh my, was this delicious - both times. We had takeout both times, and both times it was still nice and hot when we got it home. When they pack up a noodle dish, they put the noodles in a separate box, so they don't get soggy - yay! Overall good flavor, one great flavor, heavy on the salt, and varying attention to little details: separate noodles (yay!), but clumpy basil and stray (?) vegetables, boo. I'm not opposed to going back, but we might try the other Thai places in town first.

i don't usually like to write about a place unless i have a few photos because i think stories about food without pictures of that food is kind of boring and maybe also kind of pointless but you need to know about thai princess so i can't wait. this place is absolutely delicious. it is one of the best thai restaurants i have tried not only in the lansing area but pretty much anywhere. the first thing you will notice about this place is the awesome creative not just the basics menu. sick of pad thai and massaman curry and spring rolls? you are in the right place! here are a few examples for you: Apple Avocado Salad: Shredded green apple with cashew nuts, avocado and red onion in spicy lime sauce Peanut Curry: Red curry with ground peanut, bamboo shoot, eggplant, string bean, snow peas, basil leaves Soft Shell Crab Garlic: Crispy soft-shell crab with garlic, mushroom and pepper Coconut Noodle: Sautéed thin noodle with coconut milk, bean sprout, onion, and scallion in yellow bean sauce everything is prepared perfectly and they use a nice interesting authentic variety of vegetables. i had the pad khee mao and it came with chinese broccoli, which i love and have never gotten in pad khee mao before. service is attentive and prompt. one tiny complaint i have is that they did not ask how spicy i wanted my food and i didn't think to say and it came totally mild. so make sure you tell them what you want. even without spiciness it was still tasty. oh and you are also going to have to ask for chopsticks if you want them. the ambience is nice, the lighting is good and there are lots of pretty pieces of art and plants around. the prices are comparable to any other thai place. as for drinks, there is no alcohol and apparently lansing is not like cincinnati where you can just BYOB whenever it's not on the menu, so you are going to have to shotgun your singha in the parking lot. they do have tea though. one thing i am curious about which i am going to have to check out is whether you can get sticky rice with your meal. they have a few desserts with sticky rice so i know they have it. if i could get sticky rice with my curry i would crap myself with joy.

Besides Taste of Thai, this is the only other Thai restaurant where my brother will eat...and we have tried many, many Thai places. His standards are VERY high. I first came with a group of co-workers after a special event and was pleasantly surprised. I eventually brought both my brother and my husband for them to give it a try. Their lunch special is tasty and light and the small dining room is attractively decorated. That said, it's a bit of a drive from where I live on the west side and it's also slightly expensive, comparatively speaking. If you're looking for Thai in the Okemos area, Thai Princess is a good spot.

I ate here after reading all of the positive reviews and at the recommendation of a coworker. The restaurant itself was very pleasant, the waitstaff was courteous and attentive and there is a 10% cash discount which was very nice. Two of us dined and our dinner consisted of satay, jungle curry, and peanut curry. The portions are small and the jungle curry and peanut curry were both rather bland and lacked any sort of salt. The ingredients were very fresh though and the eggplant in my dish was cooked perfectly. I ordered extra hot, but there still was not very much heat to the dish. The satay was excellent, but a bit pricy at $5.99 for four small skewers. With all of the other options for Thai food in the Lansing area, I probably won't be back.

I had the Mango Delight with Chicken. It was fabulous! My daughter & son-in-law and two grandsons all ordered something different, and everything looked wonderful. The presentation was great, the food was fresh, hot and tasty. The service was friendly and attentive as well.

Great food & atmosphere. The food is very similar to what you get in Bangkok, tasty, just not as spicy (which is good for Americans). The menu has a wide variety. Service is good. Food comes out pretty quick, we are usually on & out in about an hour or less. Great for lunch & dinner!

Two words Mango Curry! Not that I've been to a LOT of Thai restaurants, but this is the best Thai I've ever had. If I could snort the curry sauce, I'd do it. Unbelievably good. They must not bring straws for that reason. Chunks of mango in with a bunch of other veggies and strips of beef. Had that lovely spice that sort of sticks in the back of your throat. Galangal is what it's called I would have liked a bit more rice with my meal, that would be my only quibble, yes I could have asked for more and yes, they would have cheerfully retrieved it. But I didn't so I'd have something to mention later in a yelp review. Thai Princess just went into my 'heavy rotation' for great dining in Okemos!

This is just what the area needed. A small, yet sophisticated restaurant with character. Their tagline is "We are the same old Zabb Thai Manhattan, Queens, and Astoria in New York!", which I definitely believe after my experience at Thai Princess. To be honest, I did not particularly feel like Thai this evening, but happened to notice the restaurant driving by. Feeling up for trying something new, after dinner with a friend did not work out, I ended up at Thai Princess looking for a table for 1 at about 6:00pm on a Saturday. The seating is limited, probably 4-5 tables on two walls that can seat 4 and a center row of two 2-tops, plus a single, which is where I sat. I do admit, it wasn't ideal, but I wasn't feeling picky. Atmoshpere I was surprised at the sophistication of the decor, something I have yearned to see in the Greater Lansing area. It was simple, yet chic. The chairs were nice and comfortable, seemingly with a halfway decent leather and with dark-glittery backs, certainly befitting Thai culture with the 'gold' elements. The table was simply set up with a white plate, paper napkin and water glass. It would have been nice to have real cloth napkins, as the paper napkin didn't quite fit with the rest of the decor, but I am giving them the benefit of the doubt that it will be a future upgrade. Due to the small space, every time the door opened, it let in the cold, which is something I think can be remedied. In the meantime, make reservations and ask for something either on the left wall or towards the back. Price The appetizers ran from $3.99 to $7.99, which is hard to justify for a single person dining. That being said, seeing what was served around me, you certainly would be getting enough for the price of the appetizer as all seemed to be sizeable enough to share between 3-4 people. The prices for main entrees is extremely reasonable, most around (or less than) $10, with only very few dishes surpassing the $10 mark. Service The servers/host were very welcoming and warm. Having grown up in restaurants (4-5 restaurants owned by extended/immediate family) and worked in the restaurant industry throughout college, I have a certain tolerance and understanding for waitservice. Being a low-maintenance single diner, I was not often looked after, meaning my glass of water was empty for quite a while until I was ready to leave before being asked to have it re-filled. But, to their defense, there was significant traffic, people around me waiting to be seated and others higher maintenance than I: those asking for specific tables and otherwise being very picky. Welcome to Okemos. It was evident that most of the patrons entering the restaurant had come upon recommendation and they were coming in consistently. Food Starting of with a Thai Iced Tea, which was delicious, I did end up ordering an appetizer: the Fresh Roll, which was essentially a fresh spring roll. It was very nice, large and cut up into four pieces, just right for two or four people as a starter. I didn't finish, nor intended to spoil the remainder of the dinner. For the main entree, I went with the suggestion of my server/host, who I suspect may have been the manager and possibly even one of the owners. I typically love Pannang Curry, but the suggestion was for the Drunken Noodle (Pad Khee-Mhow) and for the meat I opted for chicken. I asked for it 'medium' spicy, though knowing that most mediums in Thai restaurants is pretty spicy, even for me. The dish was excellent. It was simple, yet sophisticated. It was a wonderful blend of sweet and spicy (yet a hint too spicy for me). The spices and elements of the dish seemed almost perfectly balanced as a whole, yet your tastebuds could experience each flavor as it was intended. Summary I do enjoy other Thai restaurants in the area, but this restaurant is on a different level. They seem to have the big-city experience of knowing you can't just be another 'acceptable' restaurant and have the sophistication in their food to keep the people coming. I foresee this restaurant doing well, even for the dinner period, which is not always easy for Asian establishments in this area. It has a chic atmosphere, almost making you forget where you are, the food is sophisticated and unique compared to the pricier establishements in the area, and the price is more than acceptable for the quality you receive.

It's always nice to see a new Thai restaurant in the area! The Yelp reviews were so good, and I'd been craving Thai, so we stopped in a few days before Christmas for dinner. I think the interior is really cute - it's not a huge restaurant, but it's cozy and they have some cool decor consisting of glass vases that are lit up and change colors through the evening. We started with the curry puffs, which was a pasty/empanada/samosa like appetizer of spiced chicken in a pastry. They were hot and crispy, and pretty yummy. Then we split Pad Thai, Masaman Curry, and a Mixed Vegetable stir fry. Everything was "fine." I was a little confused about why this place received so many raves, since it seemed quite average to me. I wasn't crazy about the pad thai - I was hoping for stronger flavors. The Masaman curry was tasty, but I've had better incarnations of the dish. The mixed vegetable stir-fry was a pretty generic mix, reminiscent of what you get in Chinese restaurants. It was all satisfying and we finished our meal happy, but I wasn't really taken by anything. We did enjoy learning from one of the women who works there (possibly an owner or cook?) that Thai people use chopsticks for noodles but NOT rice dishes. She thinks it's funny that Americans who want to be "authentic" use chopsticks with rice - she herself said she always uses a fork! People in other countries, China and Japan I suspect, do use chopsticks with rice, but apparently that is not Thai custom! Anyway, I think I've actually had better Thai food in other parts of Lansing, though I forget where, so I probably wouldn't be super eager to return here - it's nice that it's close to home, but other than that it seemed like an average offering. Lansing just needs better Thai! I feel like if you put this restaurant in Chicago, the food wouldn't hold up - this may be some of the best Lansing has to offer, but I don't think there are a lot of super options. I'm being too mean. It's totally fine. It just wasn't much beyond that!

My favorite Thai restaurant in the East Lansing area. Have liked everything there. Friendly service and appealing atmosphere. Only downside (maybe it's changed) is no beer/wine sold there.

  • Nora M.

The good-the decor and atmosphere is very nice. The food contained many fresh vegetables and was artfully presented. The not-so-good: my curry was too sweet and somewhat grainy. I had massaman and it usually is more coconut milk/less brown and somehow this version lacked the flavor depth I wanted. The Tom Ka soup was ok, a bit too sweet for me. Same with the pad thai. One of the things I think was missing here was more herbal freshness--cilantro, basil etc. . I may go back and try some of the stir-fry's that would play more to the restaurants strength in fresh veggies. I still miss Thai Kitchen (now closed) and even that was just the thai food I was used to for Lansing. Next time I want thai I'll probably just go to Asia's Finest on the southside of Lansing, the atmosphere isn't like Thai Princess, but the food is better and cheaper. Still searching for a great Thai restaurant in Lansing.

Excellent Thai restaurant. You'd have no idea this strip mall would have an excellent restaurant with a very well done interior, comfortable seating, and an awesome waitstaff. Their lunch offerings are a real bargain. $8 something gets you an entree with meat, soup, salad, and a spring roll. I've done quite a few lunches here, done takeout, etc and I've always been pleased. It's rare for me to be so consistently happy with a restaurant, especially in Lansing. I brought friends from Chicago here, and they remarked that Thai Princess could easily compete with the Thai restaurants they frequent. The good: Cheap, excellent food. Great waitstaff. Nice decor. The bad: Seating is rather limited. Favorite dish: Pad Thai Chicken

Best Thai lunch spot in the Lansing area. I love that they include salad, soup, spring roll, and entree with the lunch. It sounds like a lot but the portions are the perfect size and most entrees are light and loaded with veggies. Super good!

If this the best Thai restaurant in the area, then I'm definitely disappointed. All in all, the food was ok and I would come back to try other dishes. The prices are good, mainly around $10 and you get a 10% discount if you pay in cash! They have so many dishes to choose from! They don't use msg so that's good. I asked the waitress what she recommended from the stir fry section and she said hands down, the cashew chicken. She said many customers order that and it's not like Chinese cashew chicken. It seemed similar to me. It was ok but not something I would order again. My boyfriend got Pad Thai which was ok also but just not the best. We just came back from Thailand a few months ago so we are comparing it to what we've had there. Maybe that's not a fair comparison! They didn't have mango sticky rice since it wasn't in season =(. I was so excited when I saw that on the menu.

Seriously awesome. Best Thai in the area, hands down. Just moved to Lansing, was dying for some good Thai food, this does the trick. I've lived in Chicago, DC, Michigan --- this is as good as anything I've had. Don't deny it, try it! (And the decor is actually really cool for a strip mall.)

I'm a Southeast Asian who grew up in Southern California eating tons of Thai food. This is my perspective: One star for the nice decor. One star for a $7.99 (limited) lunch menu that comes with a spring roll, salad with peanut dressing, and tom yum chicken soup. One star for decent Pad See Ew (stir-fried wide rice noodles with eggs and Chinese broccoli). However, for my tastes, all the dishes are too sweet. Unfortunately, the American palate favors overwhelmingly sweet flavors rather than a perfect combination of sweet, sour, salty, and savory. Some spice would be nice, too! I can make better curry at home, so I won't be ordering curry here. Despite these shortcomings, we will continue to patronize the restaurant because my daughter loves their noodles (and their name).

Friendly people, good food, good prices ($10-12 for dinner, $3-4 for appetizers). Perhaps my favorite restaurant in Okemos.

Thai Princess is a small but elegant restaurant. The decor is dimly lit wih warm browns with a dark laminate wood floor. It's amazing considering the previous restaurant to occupy the space -- Scalliwags Fish and Chips. The owners redid everything, from the ceiling to the walls, to the floors. It easily has the best ambiance of any Thai restuarant in the Lansing area. Service was prompt, our server did not have the best english, but refilled our water several times and boxed up left overs at the end of the meal. We started with the Thai Salad, which was pleasant with sprouts, carrots, daikon , cold fried tofu and an excellent warm peanut dressing on the side. The chicken in the pad thai had a pleasing charred flavor betraying the hot wok it was cooked in. Overall however the pad thai was too mild for my taste, lacking spice, peanuty sauce or a hint of fish sauce I was expecting. The portion was huge however and the noodles were cooked perfectly, not a greasy lump like Taste of Thai's. My wife ordered Sam Rod (see photo). She enjoyed it, it even had some exotic green papaya which was a nice touch. She did say she preferred the sauce of Taste of Thai's Sam Rod over this one's. Overall the food was excellent, with modern fresh ingredients just not quite as dynamic as we had hoped. We'll definitely return to try out more of the menu. The prices were spot on, our check with two meals and an appetizer was $24. It's very nice to finally have a Thai Restaurant that's elegant and nice to be in, something that you find in Thai places around the rest of the country. This is definitely a place you can take a date to and a cozy place for a night out.

I travel A LOT. Including many trips to Thailand. I can honestly say that Thai Princess is hands down the BEST and most authentic Thai that my wife and I have found. Every time we come to Lansing we make it point to eat here. The food is excellent and the staff is always courteous. You should be able to quench your Thai thirst here. Who knows...if I keep asking for coconut ice cream they may get it someday. :)

The pineapple curry was really delicious. Who would've thought pineapple could go so well with shrimp! The jungle curry, fried fish or spring rolls did not disappoint in the least. One of the best Thai restaurants I've eaten in.

Best Thai restaurant in the area! Soft shell crabs and tom yum soup are my favorite appetizers. Their red curry is really good if you like the sweeter side of curry. BTW they have a really cool looking bathroom!

This is likely the best Thai restaurant in the area. Service is good. Ingredients are fresh. I love the green curry. Spicy dishes are actually spicy here not Midwestern bland. Prices are a little above average for the area but still reasonable.

I used to be a strict Thai Kitchen goer for years, but let me tell you that Thai Princess beats them on all levels, hands down! From the beautiful interior decorating to the spring rolls, pad thai, and thai tea. And don't even get me started on the mango sticky rice dessert. Sheesh louise, so delicious. On top of everything the service was wonderful. We got there 15 minutes before they closed and they were so friendly and accommodating, it was really a lovely Thai food experience. Go here and you will leave full, happy and wishing you had leftovers to carry you through until the next time you visited.

This place has been open for a little over a week. Beautiful cozy restaurant with 14 tables set up. Service was good enough to keep up with a brisk lunch business. For $7.99, I got a lunch special shrimp and chicken pad thai. Included with the lunch entree was a very generous serving of tom yum soup, crab rangoon and a salad. Everything was excellent. Pad thai was the best I've had in the city!

I was hesitant to try Thai Princess, I usually go to Thai Kitchen. But, I walked by the other day and decided to order out. OMG is the food very fresh and light. Made to order. This is by far the best food I've had in a while. The fresh rolls are out of this world.

Thai Princess is special because it's the only Thai restaurant in Lansing/Okemos area that has a very nice decor and atmosphere. The service is very good, too. However, the food was very average (although the presentation is super nice). It didn't feel authentic at all. The taste of the curry dishes were not distinguishable from one another. The price is a bit high but it's maybe fair considering the nice decor. If you want good Thai food, go somewhere else.

Good bargain, nice atmosphere, average food. For the most part I like the Thai Princess. The atmosphere is nice, modern and clean. The service is very good. Additionally, the food is a bargain. My issue with the Thai Princess is the taste of the food. Rarely do the vegetables in the entree match the menu description. They tend to over-use green, red and yellow bell peppers in all of the stir fry dishes. The taste of many of their dishes are hardly distinguishable from each other (obviously curry is different than oyster sauce, my comment about the dishes not being distinguishable is more when comparing curries with other curries, stir fries with other stir fries, etc. ) Thai is one of my favorite cousines (when I travel abroad - which I do all of the time - I always look to try Thai restaurants), and there are not many (if any) good options in mid-Michigan. I believe this allows the food to be average yet receive such good scores from others. If this was located in a larger city with more competition, I fear they would not last long.

Fabulous. I've been craving Thai for weeks and have been disappointed in my other attempts. The crab rangoon is the best I have had in the area. The balance of curry spices in my dish is perfect. Sometimes you have to let a dish "age" for a day for the curry to really settle in, but not here. Love the soothing atmosphere of this unassuming little restaurant. I will be back often.

I've tried most of the menu and everything is fresh, tasty, authenic, and priced right. I like the curries and all the apps are yummy. Kinda pricey but the wonderful decor and quality of ingredients is worth it.

I have only tried Taste of Thai, and Thai princess. The latter is much better and I recommend Mango Curry and Peanut Curry. I don't quite like those kinds of fried rice, which is not very "technique" and easy to be made as far as I am concerned. Nice decoration as well!

Beautifully done insides despite the strip mall facade. Wonderful food with beautiful presentation at reasonable prices. What more could anyone ask for? With so many Thai restaurants way overpriced and offering indifferent food carelessly prepared, this is a gem. The real thing. And while not inexpensive the food and ambiance is worth the money. An unexpected pleasure.

My first time dining here...Will not be the last ! Excellent food I was in East Lansing visiting my MSU student daughter, I asked her where she would like to eat and I got the standard "anything that does NOT taste like dorm food" I had gotten Thai Princess as a recommendation from a co worker so off we went ! Lunch time on a snowy Saturday and we got the last table. Not a large place, but very comfortable. Nice selection on the menu. I wanted to start off with some pork dumplings... but no..all out So we each selected an order of spring rolls... When they came out I we were surprised that each order had five spring rolls.... not a problem because they were excellent. We finished 7 of them saving room for the main course. I ordered the Ped Basil Beef with med spice. It was very good. a light sauce with a little heat. The beef was very tender and the vegetables we cooked perfect. Warm but still with a little crisp to them. My daughter ordered a noodle dish with chicken, no spice. It came with a light sauce, very delicate and a green vegetable on top. She loved it and offered a sample to me. It was very good and I looked again at the vegetable and what I though were green beans were broccoli stems carefully cut and trimmed. I am not a big broccoli fan, but these were tasty. An excellent meal for $32.00, very good service and we will be back

Went there last night. The wait staff was really friendly and helped me pick something I would like. Loved it. I will be getting a menu and crossing off things as I try them so I can eat the whole menu! Very cool ambiance and decor. I will be taking all of my friends.

Sooooo disappointed! I was excited with the prospect of having a good Thai restaurant closer to campus than Bangkok House, but, alas, looks like I will have to keep making the trip to the downtown Lansing area. I read the reviews here and was enthusiastic. I ordered lunch to go, red curry with vegetables (not a huge fan of fried tofu). I asked for it to be made extra hot, I'm a pepperhead. What I got was a container of very bland curried vegetables. Aside from the fact that the heat level wasn't even up to a mild at Bangkok House, the curry itself is bland. No flavor of galang, lemongrass, garlic, etc. The curry sauce is incredibly greasy, literally a pool of oil on top of the vegetables. The vegetables themselves were overcooked and mushy. The only thing that saved the dish is that they were generous with the holy basil. The salad and spring roll were nice. The soup had big wads of meat in it, so I passed.

My husband and I tried Thai Princess a couple of weeks ago. Since then both of us have been back with friends. It is a small & cozy restaurant decorated with nice taste. It doesn't feel at all like a take-out place. The service was pleasant and the food was very good. The menu has a really nice variety of authentic choices and we liked everything we had.

I ordered drunken noodles and the spring rolls. I got a laugh when the waiter was surprised that I wanted the spice level of my drunken noodles to be hot. What can I say, I love spicy food. Every thing came out piping hot and the food was delicious! The drunken noodles were spicy enough that they didn't burn my mouth, but made my nose run instead. I had to get a to go container because I was so full! The staff was very friendly and attentive. I will definitely be back again!

I've been to many Thai restaurants and almost all of them try to cover their favors, or lack there of, with heat. It's a fine line where heat compliments flavor instead of burning your palate to a frizzle.Thai Princess is a wonderful exception to the local rule. Of course there's heat...when you need it. But if flavor is what you're looking for, look no further than the chef's special Kao Mok Gai. The staff is genuinely friendly and typical of a good Thai restaurant, you'll never be mistreated. The food is the freshest and prepared to be the healthiest Asian cuisine you will find.

I've been here twice -- though I have nothing to compare it too, I like it. My only complaint is that even the "non-spicy" food is quite spicy. I don't mind and I know that's how Thai food is. Waitstaff are friendly and attentive. The Thai iced tea is yummy, basically, a dessert!

Best Thai food in area coupled with wonderful service and staff. Very clean and great atmosphere. Pad thai, basil chicken and curry beer are among the best dishes. If you like it spicy, you can ask and will be happily pleased. You will join the land of 10000 smiles with this solid Thai choice spot.

Best thai food in the area for sure. It's rough because it's in Okemos which unless you take the bus or have a car isn't conducive for the MSU student but if you can make it there, it is awesome. I will start off by saying I love the decor there is a wall of colored glass bottles as soon as you walk in and the seating area is beautiful. As far as food goes, I absolutely recommend the peanut curry with chicken. It is the best thing on the menu, but you can't go wrong with a red curry or pad thai. the portions are a little smaller than most thai places I've been to, but still, when you need your somewhat quality thai fix nearby, this is the place you should go.

Friendly staff. A decent deal for takeout at lunch time. I've been there a half dozen times and while not the absolute best Thai food I've had, it is solid and tasty.

I go here for lunch every once in awhile. With the lunch specials comes a chili soup w/chicken and mushrooms, a small salad with a great peanut dressing, and a small spring roll...all served on the same starter plate. Very nice and tasty combination. A nice assortment of choices after that including pad Thai, curries, etc, with choices of pork, chicken, shrimp, etc. Exceptionally fast service. Not sure how authentic this all is, but it's good! If value for cost is considered, it gets 5 stars.

THAI PRINCESS IS THE BEST EVER. I've had Thai food in lots of major cities including NYC several times. I'm obsessed with Thai Princess. It's the best. The waitstaff is super friendly and wonderful and everything on the menu is delicious. Like, crazy delicious. Way better than you think. Like, I get chills when I eat the mango curry. If you want "giant portions" or your order custom-made to be spicy or mild, go to Wendy's and get a spicy chicken sandwich (not that there is anything wrong with Wendy's). Don't go to No Thai or Taste of Thai or any of that other ersatz Thai food. The food at Thai Princess is made by masters, and it's prepared to perfection. Really good Thai food isn't about spice, it's about complex, rich, herbal flavors and mingling of sweetness, creaminess, and spicy notes. The presentation of food is always top-notch--extremely artful, colorful, and tasteful. The attention to detail is astonishing. THE RICE COMES IN THE SHAPE OF A HEART. I just fainted. Also did I mention it's delicious? I go here every time my best friend visits from Utah, and she also agrees that it's the best Thai of all time and place. One time they mixed up our order and brought us the wrong curries BUT IT DIDN'T MATTER BECAUSE IT WAS ACTUALLY MORE DELICIOUS THAN WHAT WE ORDERED. I would drive two hours to go to Thai Princess, and sometimes I do.

Like this place a lot. The food is good, mid-range prices, and the owner/staff are nice. I talked a little with the owner (friendly) and he was from NYC where there is a lot of food competition. One of the better options in the area. Generally ok for young kids also if you go at slack times since they have a lot of room in a divided setup and they will let you sit far enough away so you do not bother other patrons.

Don't be thrown off by the modern decor. Their food will wow you by its freshness and flavor impact. Don't get me wrong, the atmosphere is very nice and it doesn't look like your typical mom and pops Thai restaurant. Enough about the setting right, I came to eat. I started with the Apple Avocado Salad. The ingredients are very fresh along with the ripeness of the apples and more importantly the avocados. The salad is lightly dressed with their house dressing flavoring the ingredients well, but not over done. If you like either of the two main ingredients, add it to your order. Their Red Curry With Tofu and Vegetables is done very well. The star is the curry sauce with it being full with flavor and rich in its viscosity. This is not some watered down dish. It's thicker and deep with flavoring. This sauce is worth the drive from any direction in the area

OK Thai food, however one of our dishes was not made correctly. The wait staff remade it but never apologized or anything. Fast service but lacking in friendliness. Not sure I would go out of my way again just for Thai food. Too bad because we eat Thai all over the country. I gave it a 3 but my kids said it was only a 2.

I'm still trying to decide whether or not I like Thai food in general but Thai Princess is the best Thai cuisine I've experienced in my travels so far. Not for just the food, but for the ambience (especially in Lansing), the large but thoughtful menu, and the very friendly staff. From the outside Thai Princess doesn't look like much (strip mall location, small worn sign) but the interior takes you across the world and is exotic and earthy at the same time. It has a slightly upscale feel without being upscale. All of the staff we encountered were very helpful and everyone had a smile on their face at all times. There was an upbeat and positive vibe in the air. We ordered the chicken pad Thai and the chicken pad spicy, level 3 as well as some a Thai iced teas (a must). There were so many intriguing options on the menu that it was difficult choosing the basic pad Thai, but I wasn't feeling as adventurous. My pad Thai smelled off putting (is that typical for pad Thai?) but tasted great! The flavors were all there, the noodles were perfect, and the chicken was very quality. The portion was large enough for left overs. My friend's pad spicy was just barely too spicy and she decided she should have gone with a level 2, but again the meal was better than average. The meals are pretty to the eye and the ingredients are memorable and fresh. Thai Princess is probably one of the best restaurants in the Lansing area. It's a great spot for guests or an intimate date.

We tried this place tonight and I'd give it a thumbs up! We had egg rolls for an appetizer. It came with five and they were nice and crunchy. The plating was beautiful. I had mango curry with shrimp. Relatively small portion, but the flavor was just great. They have somebody in that kitchen who knows what they're doing with spices. They got the hotness level just right. I asked for medium heat, and that's exactly what I received, which is very unusual! It's pricey though. My dinner ended up being about $20 with tip and tax and I'm still kind of hungry. I can eat a lot though so others might feel fuller!

I gave it 2 stars, but it's more like a 2.5. I'm convinced that all these super positive reviews are either shills for the owners or just don't get around much. Let me clarify: Thai Princess isn't bad Thai food, but it's not remarkable, ESPECIALLY for the price. When my coworker and I told another coworker we were going there, she said not to as their portions are small, the food is bland, and you don't get to choose what type of soup comes with your meal (which is a non-issue, since 99% of places don't let you choose). We don't tend to take her opinions too seriously, but we should have this time. We got there at 11:15am and there was only one other table when we arrived, but two additional by time we left at 11:45. The interior was pretty nice and decorated in a simple but cute manner. I got the dinner portion of the Shrimp Pad Thai and asked for a spice level of medium + (they have Low, Medium, and High according to our server). The server was very friendly and I have no gripes there, but when my food arrived I was irked. For being a full sized dinner portion, it was VERY small and about 50% of what WAS there was just "artful" garnish consisting of julienned carrots and purple cabbage, neither of which belong in Pad Thai. Then I begin the search for the shrimp as only one was visible, and it was small at that. After digging I found 5 petite shrimp. Frankly, for $15 I was a little pissed. Digging in didn't elevate my experience, much either as it was rather bland and on a scale of 1 to 10, I'd say the spice level was about a 3. My coworker was unimpressed by his Basil Fried Rice, as well. While Thai Princess might be on the better end of the scale of Thai places in Lansing, it's far from amazing. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention: to add insult to injury, we never got ANY soup before our meal came.

I'm going to have to agree with Mitch W. here...unless these reviewers have spectacularly low expectations or are, in fact, employed by/stakeholders in Thai Princess, there's no way this restaurant warrants more than 2 stars. I have been a few times, most recently out of sheer desperation because Bangkok House STILL has not reopened. I ordered pad kee mao with tofu. The sauce was bland/greasy, none of the noodles survived in greater than 1 inch lengths and were overcooked to the point of being mush. I mentioned at the end of my meal, which I couldn't finish (not because the portion sizes are generous, rather the opposite), that the noodles were very overcooked. My server told me that's it's because they're FRESH noodles and they're supposed to be that way. Uh, no. I cook with fresh noodles and don't boil the bejeezus out of them. Please Bangkok House, reopen soon!
