It was nice atmosphere with live music my children seem to enjoy! However, it is a restaurant after all and most of us go out for food and service. Food was just okay for the price. However the service was painfully slow. I mean it's Friday night, I feel that they should have had more than 1 server, but she was also going back and forth serving regular table and hibachi area which made it painfully slow and hard to get the server's attention. Based on the food and service, it is over-priced. Bummer.

I'm gonna keep this simple. Piss poor excuse of a restaurant. If you are going out to eat avoid this place. I have never had such a terrible service in my life. You are better off eating at a fast food joint. The food itself is nothing amazing, or jaw dropping. YOU ARE NOT MISSING ANYTHING BESIDES A WASTE OF YOUR TIME.

Worst service I've ever had at a restaurant. Came with a group of 10 friends. Waited over 30 min. after we sat down and had to complain to the manager before a server brought waters. Took another 30 min. and two more complaints to the manager before our drinks came. When the hibachi chef finally came (hour and a half after sitting down), the food was fine - but certainly not worth the wait. Despite a total of 4 complaints to the manager about the service, nothing was comped. The final insult came when they added gratuity to our bill without asking anyone in our party (they actually hand wrote the tip amount on each of our bills before they gave them to us). I won't be returning.

Horrible service and rudeness. They don't care about some of their customers just because they are so busy. This was so ridiculous excuse. My fiance and I had to sit there for about an hour. No one approached and talked to us, THERE WAS A BARTENDER AROUND US AND SOME OF WAITRESSES PAST US. They literally saw and past us for an hour. That was the worst experience ever. So we just left and decided to never go there. We expected this restaurant would run out of business in a year.

Similar to Benihana, but the two chefs I saw were much more animated and really seemed to enjoy giving the "show". Benihana chefs seem to be going through the motions.. As for the food.. It's very good.. And they seem to gladly accept special requests, like " extra fillet" (although I'm sure you have to pay extra too). The worst thing about the place is that whoever manages the little plaza\office center they are in really men's to maintain the outside better.. But don't let that dissuade you from trying it!

American comic booking loving Rob was our chef today and although he was a little quirky, the customer service was excellent and the food was even better. I would highly recommend this place and Rob as your Chef. The Japanese Beer wasn't bad either.

A friend and I came in for lunch today. The hostess was friendly and our server was both attentive and nice. Our hibachi lunch was yummy and we will definitely be returning! I'm not sure why there are so many nasty reviews... I had a great experience (especially for the price!) and look forward to returning. Thanks for a fabulous lunch!
(5)Chelsea T.
Great service, great wait staff!! I'll definitely pick Wasabi over Benihana any day! Thumbs up!
(5)Eric B.
I have deleted my original review, which was quite brutal. The staff commented on my review and is willing to make an attempt to increase the quality of their product and service. For that reason I have added another star to my rating. I can't promise but I may give them a second chance if I am in the area again sometime.

My boyfriend and I went here for dinner on a Friday night. We had bought a groupon to try it out. Overall it was okay. I prefer Sagano or Benihanas for sure. The hoods over the stove blow air out instead of sucking it up so I was freezing the whole time. The salad and soup are standard. Ginger dressing and a clear broth soup. It's nice that they don't charge you to upgrade to fried rice. But, there's no chicken in it which isn't a big deal. They do charge you $3 to get noodles instead of rice which my boyfriend did. Those weren't very good. Very bland. He would have preferred the rice even if it wasn't included. As a side note, I got a huge serving of friend rice which you don't get at Benihana. They have the standard "yum yum" sauce and ginger side sauces and those were very good. The garlic butter they use definitely has more garlic in it than other hibachi grills. They still do the theatrics of the other places which are great for first timers. We didn't try the sushi but others at our table did and they seemed pleased. The service wasn't spectacular but it wasn't bad by any means. I would come here again if a friend wanted to go. However, I would prefer Saganos where you get much more food or Benihanas where you get better quality food. The prices were pretty standard.

If I could give half a star I would. 2nd time, last time I will come here. Both times! Strong fish odor when you first walk in. Horrible service, they were extremely slow when the place was very empty. Waitress forgot to bring orders. Changed order without telling anyone. The sushi was definitely NOT fresh.
(1)Michael M.
Fried rice and Mahi Mahi hibachi: Very good but slightly salty. Cooked well and show very cool. Great date place. Sushi: Good Chicken stir fry: Very good
(4)Michael P.
Good sushi. Super slow lunch service. We were two of maybe 12 people in this moderately sized dining room. Took 25 minutes to make edemame and two rolls. Our waitress was busy talking to other customers that it looked like she was friends with so she never brought the bill. We want up to hostess and told her. She let us pay and discounted our meal for the lack of service. If they spruce the place up and tighten up service this could be an alright place. 2nd visit update. Brought the wife and a daughter for dinner. There was a two piece band that was okay but ridiculously loud. It took 35 minutes to get our sushi. Ludicrous!!! I won't come back cause they have no respect for people's time.
(2)Sara G.
I had been here for hibachi a few times before, and service was ok...food was pretty good. Came for sushi and sat on the restaurant side...service was horrendous, sushi was not great. Had to ask for a water refill four times before getting it, they forgot to place order, served us something wrong twice, and didn't seem to think it was a big deal. Once they finally got our order right it took another 40 min. to come out (on a slow Tuesday night). We grabbed our own soy sauce bowls from an empty table near us. Overall, poor experience, poor service, and enough to make me not want to come back...even after previous decent experiences. Oh, and there was a faint weird smell lingering especially in the bar area. will not be returning
(1)Erica O.
The only redeeming quality about this place is that the sushi is pretty good.... but it's not worth waiting over 40minutes for it. I went there recently with 2 other people and we waited FOREVER for our food. The server wasn't apologetic or even stressed about it. He seemed like it was all normal. The other tables seemed to be just as annoyed. We would have left if we weren't so hungry. I will never go back. Horrible service and long wait times. Also, the fish tank in the front of the restaurant is disgustingly dirty. I cannot believe that they have fish living in it! I feel terrible for them. Very trashy. Boooooooo!

Date night with the bf on a Friday, and we had a good experience. We found a coupon on valpak.com for 2 hibachi dinners at $30, so we decided to check it out. We got there pretty late around 8 30pm, and it was not as packed as you would expect for a Friday evening. Service: slow but friendly. We waited about 3 minutes at the front desk before the hostess came back to her station. Chef: Lots of energy and fun! He was generous with the squirts of sake, and the show he put on was fun to watch and be a part of! Might I add that I caught both of the pieces of broccoli he tossed for me? That was fun! Food: Solid. Bf had the steak hibachi dinner and I had the chicken hibachi dinner. Drinks: Get the Volcano for two! It comes out with a little fire in the center, and after you blow it out, you can suck up the 151 that was just on fire. Overall, we had fun and ate some solid food here despite the slow service. The valpak coupon definitely helped! This certainly beats waiting 1.5 hours at Benihana on a Friday night.

I have experienced many teppanyaki type restaurants. This meal was one of the worst. The portions were very small and it was clear that they were trying to charge the most amount of money for the least amount of food. The chicken breast, for one adult, was a half of a split breast. It wasn't seasoned and it was very tough. The amount of vegetables and what was offered was boring and small. They charged extra for even white rice. The meal didn't even include portions of bean sprouts. The service was decent and the atmosphere was pleasant. But, I would not return.

Me and my wife decided to go here for dinner on a Sunday evening. The restaurant was fairly empty being Easter Sunday and we were seated promptly. We had a Groupon, but weren't allowed to use it since it was EASTER SUNDAY. We ordered the Spicy Tuna dinner combo along with Novi Special roll (Both come with salad and miso soup). The salad didn't taste fresh and the miso soup tasted like the cheap instant powdered miso soup. The tuna and other fish in the rolls didn't seem to be fresh either and had a peculiar chewy taste. My wife's roll had a red filling and she didn't eat more than 2 pieces of that roll. FAIL The staff was also gathered and talking at the bar and suddenly their manager literally yelled at them, asked them to stop talking loud and shoo away since there were guests (Only us) present. However the server who was serving us was very nice and kept asking us if we needed anything. Overall the quality of food sucked and overpriced. Its only worth it if used with Groupon, Valpak or any other deal, otherwise, DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY. You can get much better sushi at various small stores across the street.
(2)Michael H.
Good Sushi, but a disappointing experience. I recently took my date out for introduction to sushi, but Ajishin was lined up out the door, so we came to Wasabi. The food was acceptable, and they had a good selection of sake. But the staff, from hostess to server to the bar tender seemed to be playing on different teams. Every element of the service moved dreadfully slow, and every person we interacted with seemed to be either frazzled or irritated by something known only to them. I don't expect a world class experience from a restaurant that is essentially a strip mall them restaurant, but I would expect it at least be as good as the other restaurants in that category. Wasabi - take a happy class folks! I don't expect staff to fawn all over me, but just that little extra bit of courtesy and attention to detail would make a huge difference.
(2)Brystol B.
1) I was told it would be a 15-20 minute wait when the restaurant was empty 2) the restaurant smelt horrible - like rotting fish 3) the waitress didn't come take our drink order for another 20 minutes 4) The cook didn't start our meal until after the whole table finished eating the soup and salad, so that made our entire dining experience last well over two hours. Overall I had a horrible experience, which it seems to be the case for a lot of people since everyone at our table used a Groupon. I'm always up for giving second chances, but it's kind of hard to when the custom service was so poor.
(1)Christopher D.
Awful udon...friend ordered sushi which came out 20+ minutes after my dish. Would never recommend or return.
(1)P B.
Like so many other Yelpers we came here on a Groupon. We chose to have hibachi for dinner and were very pleased. Now there were a few issues, even though it was a good experience overall. Minor issues can be forgiven with delicious food and strong drinks however. Get the Volcano drink. This drink is intended for two people to share, which makes it perfect for one after a long week. It was delicious and strong. I used to get something almost identical in Shelby Township at a Chinese restaurant. Give this place a shot. I'm definitely going back.
(4)Dipti R.
The waitress forgot our appetizer, the food was okok and the price was too high. We had expected more. Will not visit the place again.
(1)Toni B.
Just walked out after waiting 45 minutes for sushi - still nothing! At least the waiter comped our miso soups and drinks...
(1)Haans249 H.
This place is a joke. $10 for a pineapple and ciroc, when their specialty drinks are $8. We then proceed to wait for over an hour while other hibachi tables got waited on. Got here at 6:45 and its 8:20 still no chef. Its 8:30, we now have a chef. Got the bill. We had a groupon which we paid 15 for 30 dollars off. We got the 30 off as expected, but they couldnt even comp the edamame. Thanks but no thanks.
(1)Zeid S.
Disagree with previous reviews. The food was very good and so was the service. The hibachi was fun, but could've had more stunts. The filet was well cooked and tasty. 4 stars easily.
(4)Layan A.
Great food. I disagree with reviews above, the service was wonderful. It wasn't like other hibachi restaurants that take forever to make the food, it was all timely. Will definitely come here again.
(4)Christina K.
I hate to write bad reviews for restaurants but it needs to be done! We decided to come here on a whim on a Sunday around 7pm. The interior of the restaurant is a little schizophrenic...it's been so many restaurants in the past so it looks like each restaurant added a little something to the interior...I just don't get it. We ordered from the Hibachi and Sushi menu. We were really hungry so decided to put in a couple of sushi rolls in first as an appetizer and ordered chicken and steak hibachi. As a note of caution they drown your plate in a sweet teriyaki sauce and the food was just warm. It definitely wasn't worth paying $22-$27/dish. Our sushi rolls came out 30 minutes later which were pretty good...hence the two stars and not just one. I always think to myself that if you open a restaurant shouldn't you serve good food? Don't you test of the menu first? Isn't this what's going to keep the doors open to the restaurant? This place is definitely not authentic Japanese food, if that's what you want you should go to the plaza right next door and eat at Ajishin.

It pains me to write this 2-star review after dealing w/ the manager (Robert) who was so nice and did his best to make my first visit an excellent one, but in the end things happened that were out of his control. 2-stars means "Meh, I've experienced better" - - and that's a fair and accurate account, Robert's courteous service prevented a 1-star. This place has the potential, but change has to start from the top. I'm half Jap so I know the cuisine, and so does my Tokyo mom. As you can imagine we can be somewhat critical of the food, and her more-so than I since she's cooked it all her life. I found this new place exploring Novi on my way home, I wanted to surprise her w/ a quality dinner. The Yelp reviews were less than stellar, but it's Christmas Day so you gotta take your chances. The place is quiet, clean, has a nice ambiance. I'm greeted by Robert (manager) who gives me a menu and even offers me green tea (which was excellent) as I ponder on my to-go order. So far things are looking great. The menu has the usual offerings but the item "Unagi Don" catches my eye. It's eel over sushi rice, comes w/ a sauce. I ask if they have "Ten Don" (shrimp tempura instead of eel) and he says "no", so I ask if we can just replace the eel w/ tempura shrimp instead - - so he thinks about it and agrees. Then the conversation evolves as I scan over the menu and see "Shrimp Tempura Dinner" - - it's only $4 more ($16) and comes w/ a soup & salad. How about this (I ask) - - I'll order the Shrimp Tempura Dinner, don't give me soup & salad, just give me extra bowl of rice and an extra cup of the Ten Don sauce (tempura dipping sauce)? Robert ponders- - so I sweeten the pot and even offer to pay a couple bucks (couple = 2) more for the sauces - - he says not to worry, he will make me happy and put it together. Awesome, so far so good! Robert leaves, and unfortunately that's the highest point of this experience. It's all goes downhill from there. Robert runs into the owner (younger Japanese man) who's eating a meal. I see them talking and knew something was up so I walk over to check in. The manager says he is being told to "charge me $3 for the sauces because it's expensive". I'm thinking I'll get 2 extra tempura sauces for $3 so I agree with it. Basically the (greedy) owner got wind of our already agreed-upon deal and cancelled it out. Okay, I'll let the "made agreement-with-customer-and-then-refused" thing go, it's Xmas. Advice: Honor your commits Food took a while, I'm now in a rush and don't bother to look in the bag, but the bill comes to nearly $27! I'm like how did we get from a $16 dish w/ $3 extra for sauce to $27? Turns out the (greedy) owner charged me $3 for EACH sauce, and $2 for extra rice - even though the manager said he would give it to me. How nice. And to make matters worse I get home to Mama-san and take out the items - it's the WRONG SAUCE! I was given 2 extra "oyster sauce" and 1 half-filled tempura sauce. The oyster sauce is not what I wanted in the first place (it's thick & sweet like molasses - don't care for it) and I'm so upset I paid $6 for 2 of them!! The tempura sauce is what goes w/ Ten Don! Next observation - batter used for vegetable tempura was fine, but they used a different tempura batter for the shrimp which she said is incorrect and not authentic. The normal person may not recognize but Mama-san knows the Real McCoy, she was not happy w/ the shrimp batter. She was also not impressed w/ the quality + taste of the tempura sauce saying it was too thin and lacked umami (flavor). She let me sample some of her tempura sauce - - WHOA! Mama-san was RIGHT! Her tempura sauce was AWESOME! Sorry, she has no plans to open up a Japanese Restaurant in Novi - much less give out her recipe which is da BOMB! Wasabi, you're safe (for now). And to add more salt to the wound I paid extra for everything yet didn't get the soup & salad that comes w/ the meal, so overall the customer is shorted. Once Mama san found out I paid $26 for this meal she got mad and said it wasn't worth it and I had overpaid. Mama-san was so disappointed she took a bamboo stick to Chris-san's butt. I couldn't sit for days. Steve Jobs once said: "give the customer what they want, make them happy, and in return they'll give you loyalty and keep coming back." How true - it's called "Customer Equity". If Robert was running Wasabi I would have left a happier man and would likely come back even after the oyster sauce mistake. He flexed and was eager to please, but the owner's obvious #1 priority is money (greed) and upcharging everything as opposed to making customers happy w/ a quality experience. He's thinking short term (i.e. Wall Street) while Robert is thinking long term stability. So what do you think is the recipe for success? Short term gratification or Long Term stability? Just ask Kiichiro Toyoda & Ritz Carlton. Thank you Robert, I really appreciated your effort!

Been there once and I will NEVER go back. Both food and service was bad. If you looking for authentic Japanese restaurant then this is NOT your place. It is rather Chinese restaurant... I ordered their lunch special which was a set of sushi roll and Udon. Sushi roll was just OK but the Udon was not cooked properly. Their soup taste just like boiled water. Owner should to the Ajishin and try their Udon to see/understand what is Udon.

We stumbled upon this place because I had a half off groupon. When we first came in I was unimpressed by the peeling pictures on the wall; they could use a nice picture frame. Then I was hit was the odor- they need to clean their fish tank, it was very unappetizing. We waited about 15 minutes for the table to see the 'show'. We were seated with a family of six so no personal date talk at the table allowed- we whispered during dinner. The service from our chef was great. Server? Not so much. I could never find him to order appetizers or drinks and when he did get my drink order I didn't receive it until our food was done and we were the only ones left at the table. Buzz kill. The main course q's good- the shrimp had no taste whatsoever. Would I return? Probably not.
(3)C P.
Not sure what all the complaints are about. Had a great meal tonight. Steak and salmon. Table was full and all were happy. Chef was exceptional and had some great egg tossing and spatula work. Price was average for a Japanese steakhouse. Sat at the hibachi grill but by the sushi bar and everything being made there looked tasty. Service wasn't fast, but it's not McDonalds and it was nice not to be rushed like at Benihana. I would return for another meal without hesitation.
(4)Susan Y.
let me preface my review with this. the restaurant is relatively new so they are still working out the kinks. Keeping that in mind, I gave them 4 stars out of 5 and have been here twice. Once for the hibachi side and once for sushi The decor - compared to what this place used to look like as the Italian epicure and mezza, it's fantastic!! There are two parts to the restaurant- the hibachi side which is well lit and really nice with granite table tops around the grills and the sushi side which is really the bar area which is equally as nice. The bar has a neat translucent look to it which makes for a nice focal point. Food- despite previous reviews of the food, I've been pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food. When I got the hibachi, I had the filet and lobster. Both were cooked really well. The dinner came with soup and salad and some shrimps of the grill as appetizers. When I got the sushi, it too was delicious. The yellowtail jalapeño appetizer was ridiculously good- fresh, light but tasty. I highly recommend it. Overall, two great meals. Service - yes service was a bit slow but I attribute that more to the normal operational woes of a brand new restaurant. It should get better as time goes on Overall- it provides a nice addition to the plethora of japanese restaurants in the area. It's a little more upscale and has a full bar with need cocktails. It's worth the visit if you like Japanese food.
(4)Tracey W.
This place is exactly what you think it's going to be going in....but for me, a little bit better. Most of us have visited it's more famous synonym, the chain restaurant Benihana and menu wise there is not much difference. The big difference is seen in the interaction between the hibachi chefs and the guests. Imagine sake shots in a ketchup bottle squirted in your mouth until you can't breath....yup, it happens regularly. We went for a family birthday dinner and even my more conservative parents were covered in sake drippings by the end of the night. If you want to have good food and a lot of fun, I recommend Wasabi.
(4)Angela U.
Pretty mediocre food it is not worth the price. I would actually go elsewhere to eat that much better for the same price. One thing about the hibachi is that it's the same tricks that they always do and after a while its really boring and I would rather just have food than watch them cook it. The service from the chef is good but the service from waitstaff is horrible. They just take the order and don't bother to check on you after that other than to give you your check.
(2)My H.
The atmosphere was very romantic and relaxing. It had a nice ambience and felt cozy. I love the food and I definitely will go back! The price was not too bad, I went at lunch time and had a great meal for a reasonable price!
(5)Monisha S.
I came here with a few friends after reading other Yelp reviews. The food is good, especially the sweet potato tempura rolls. But, the service was so slow. The place was almost close to empty yet we waited over 20 minutes for a single roll. Overall, food was good but service could definitely use some work. Recommend this place if you have time to wait.
(3)Lynn H.
First, the good: My vegetarian hibachi dinner was outstanding. The way the tofu was cooked was *perfect"! A solid 5 out of 5 stars! Next, the bad: Service was friendly, but slow. Very slow. The restaurant is surely losing money from the slow drink service. A shaky three minus for service, rescued from a two because our waitress was quite personable. Finally, the ugly: The hibachi chef shot Saki into our table-mates' mouths while plugging their noses. I didn't ever need to see grown men get drunk this way. Puh-leeze! Zero stars here.
(3)Andrew K.
I just went there today (4/27/ 15) it took them over an hour to bring out my food with about 6 people in the entire restaurant at lunch! Very poor service.
(1)Kelly R.
Was seated for an hour and 15 minutes- of that time, it took 20 minutes for our order to get taken, and another 45 minutes for our food to even come. Ended up asking for a box because I was so sick of the non existent service. The waitress also never came by to apologize or explain the wait. I would NOT recommend this restaurant to anyone. I would recommend, however, Samurai Steakhouse on Haggerty. It's close.
(1)Misty M.
Service- Awful. Not only that but our server could not speak English very well. On top of that she was very very slow, and even got offended when we asked the other service for cheesecake tempura! Well of course since she was no where to be found! Food- Not very good at all. There wasn't much rice on my shrimp tempura roll. There was more seaweed. The cheesecake tempura was covered in some type of disgusting cream with sprinkles, so much to the point that I thought the waitress brought the wrong item! Not only that but it was a tiny sliver, and wasn't very good either. There was no soup or salad offered like there is at most Japanese places. This place was empty on a weekend night, which speaks for itself. I wouldn't go back if you paid me. I think this place needs to shut down already. Maybe they can open a Chinese restaurant. If you're looking for real Japanese food, Aji Shin is close by.
(1)Jodi E.
We only had the sushi. I was with my hubby and 10 year old son. It was 6pm on a Monday. We were greeted and sat right away. We ordered the Gyoza as an appt. The waitress came back with our drinks and helped us order. She was super knowledgable. Everything she recommended was fabulous. It was really fresh fish. I'm a fan of white tuna and theirs was sooooo good. I also thought their ginger salad was the best I've ever had. Usually they're all the same, but not here. I'm not a miso fan but my guy loved it. We stuffed ourselves with delicious sushi, the waitstaff was helpful and friendly, the place was cozy and clean. What more could you ask for? We will certainly be back. I love this place. Service is sometimes slow, but food and ambiance is great!
(5)Ornella B.
Came here for a dinner with a friend since the wait at ajishin was over an hour. Well this place was nearly empty when we walked in but it still took about an hour to get a couple of rolls!! Good food but the service is soooooo slowwww. Next time I'll just wait for a table at ajishin than giving this place another chance..meh

With the fall of the Melting Pot in Novi, my wife and I had to find a new location to celebrate our anniversary. Since it was on a Friday and my wife had to work until 7:00pm, I decided to pick her up and take her for an anniversary lunch. She has been raving about this place on a regular basis, so I decided to bring her here. She said that we had to make a reservation to sit by one of the grill tables, so that we could watch our food being made. The only downside to the whole experience was that we had to wait over 30 minutes before the show got on the road. In that time we were given a tasty salad and delicious soup, but 30 minutes was still a little excessive. Once the show started, it was a lot of fun. The griller/cook/performer had a lot of energy and a good sense of humor. He made a few minor jokes and showed off his handling skills with a set of spatulas. It was a lot of fun to watch him cut up the vegetables, meat, and make the fried rice. They add a lot of showmanship, including turning the onion into a volcano, just for entertainment purposes. For this meal, my wife ordered chicken and shrimp, while I ordered the filet mignon. All three were really good, with the filet being my favorite. All in all, it was a fun and novel experience. With the lunch special, we left paying just a little over $30 with tip. We will definitely be returning to enjoy the delicious food and the fun atmosphere.
(4)Ernie M.
Even though the ratings for Wasabi were low, most of the poor reviews were for unacceptable service and not food related. Since I love Hibachi cooking and I had a lot of time, we decided to try this place. I think they have resolved their service issues. The service was more than adequate. Our initial drink order came out in good time and they took our dinner orders promptly. Our teppanyaki chef was very entertaining with the onion volcano and the hat tricks. If you wan,t they will squirt some sake into your mouth. I passed on this, but the guys next to us didn't and they said the sake was very good. The food was excellent. The soup and salad was very tasty. I ordered the shrimp and steak habachi and it was excellent. My daughter ordered the vegetarian habachi and the soy cakes were cooked perfectly and really yummy. THIS PLACE IS A SOLID 3* AND VERY CLOSE TO A 4*. We will definitely go again!!
(3)Sue W.
Had a Groupon. Ate on bar side because there was a long wait on grill side (wed night). Service was very, very slow. My steak was grizzly. I gave it a 3 instead of a 2 because the seafood sauce was amazing. I am still waiting for the bill. After using this Groupon, we will not be back.
(3)Rachel C.
Terrible place. Awful service. Chinese owned Japanese restaurant so it is not authentic. Its basically trash here.
(1)Loooking F.
I came to this places many times before, and I can tell the service is going downhills. Though, I didn't want to write a bad review when ppl kinda of know it is not a famous place to hang out. But This time I feel like I should say something. Last weekend we had hibachi , and our food was over cooked. They were actually burnt, and taste bitter. The shrimp, and the scallops. They were All burnt! What a waste of the food! This is the worst we ever had for hibachi.

I don't know why I see some bad reviews, some people are such winers!! We had an excellent meal, we had filet, lobster, shrimp and it was delicious!! The chef was very friendly and energetic! Loved the ginger dressing on salad too! And their dinners include the chicken fried rice (unlike Benihana). Would definately go back!

I've been here 4 times in hopes that it will get better b/c it is fairly new. It's only gotten worse! Back to Benihanas we go. We went on Valentines Day so you think they would be ready. There was no bartender! Then at our hibachi table the server took 10 minutes to greet us. The chef came and was very boring! We ordered sushi and they brought it after our entire meal was done. I asked for water 4 different times and never got it. Our bill took 15 minutes after we were done to even come to the table. It's very sad I heard everyone around us say they will never be back. I'd say service prior to this last visit was good but I'd be lying. The food was decent but nothing like other hibachi places. The sushi...awful (I never say awful)! We are big Japanese food fans and this place isn't even close. Sad really.

Okay let's just get right to it. Service is horrible. Food is wonderful. The service was so incredibly slow. It seemed like they had one waitress waiting on the whole place. Plus we had to wait almost thirty minutes before even being seated. We even saw people who were seated after us get served and leave. Just so slow. The show they put on was actually great. They were lots of fun. They tossed food into our mouths and set things on fire. The kids loved watching them cook it all. The food was actually great! Everyone loved their food. Steak and lobster were the favorites among the group. Overall, fun place once you're actually being served.

The sushi is good the menu stinks it's like to many pages and heavy like a dictionary. I see customers enjoy the hibachi entertainment i haven't tried that as of yet. The owners don't trust there employees or managers / I've seen several new managers. And employees . Owners finally sent their kids home who only confused all with what they didn't know. Hostess doesn't host managers aren't allowed to manage owners try to influence employees of changes every day . No name tags to get to know the employees , they charge exorbitant price for a small cup of coffee . It's so confusing the bar person reaches into the sushi table the busboy makes the sushi the waitresses do a nice job but also reach into the sushi bar for the bottles of enhance on the rolls of sushi. Not professional I think they need a Gordon Ramsey to wake owners up. Anyone can buy a restaurant to watch the stars fall .

Food is great, no denying that. My service has been better than most of the reviews but I normally go during lunch. It is slower than most places, and the drink orders are almost never right. I ordered 1 drink and was brought 2, let the server know and he was great to take it away, but still charged me for it. And the sushi is above average too, when it comes. About half the time I order a roll with my hibachi lunch they never bring it. Too bad.

My boyfriend and I love this place. We order here often, people who complain about the decor, really? Are u there to remodel the place? Who cares if its been several restaurants, its nice inside and it's been remodeled. Despite the price being a little high on some things the service is a little slow but the sushi is great and the hibachi is very good. We usually get take out but we have eaten inside before and the staff is very friendly. The sweet potato roll is amazing btw! Never had it before but it's great!

Worst sushi in Metro Detroit!! First of all, I still can't understand how we ended up in this place without reading reviews first. From the minute we walked in the place seemed a bit off. Dark with a slight musky/moldy smell. We sat in the sushi section as opposed to the hibachi section. The night started off with a Mojito that tasted nothing like a Mojito. Perhaps the old, slimy black pieces of mint leaves floating in the drink were to blame. The drink went back and we went with a decent long island iced tea instead. Then it was time for their appetizer sample. Deep fried shrimp, chicken breast and spring rolls. Shrimp and chicken were decent, while the spring rolls were basically sponges soaked with oil. The highlight of the night was supposed to be the sushi. As you can probably guess, it wasn't. We had the Godzilla Roll, Black Dragon Roll and and I forgot the name of the third (bottom left corner of the specialty rolls on the menu). One of the rolls was topped with crab meat which was very rubbery. This was the first time I ever had a sushi roll that took such a long time to chew. Weird... The other roll was topped with eel. This one was decent. The third roll was so salty, that we left it after trying a piece. The waitress was on par with the overall quality of the restaurant. Not once did she ask "how is everything?". I guess she already knew the answer? We left the entire salty roll (minus 1 piece) and we weren't asked if we want a box to take it home. Once again, did she already know the answer and did not want to go there? Lesson learned - do your research. There is no excuse for a restaurant to have less than 4 or 5 stars across all review sites. At least not the ones that I want to spend my money at...

I started going there as soon as they opened. It is good food, no complaints about it. But terrible nasty service! Both times it took forever, even though the restaurant wasn't packed. But that was not the last straw. Once I went there and they REFUSED service and told me to leave because they don't serve hibachi to people alone!!! This is absurd, specially, because hibachi houses have the habit of putting people they don't know in the same table and it is fine, so I had no issue in sitting with strangers (that's actually pretty usual for Japanese steakhouses). I have stopped completely going there. Saying they won't help people alone is just absurd.

The sushi is delicious here if you have two hours to wait around for it. A girlfriend and I went to wasabi on our lunch break. We walked in and there was one couple in front of us... no one else in the restaurant. We ordered 5 total rolls. 45 minutes of waiting later we began to wonder what was taking so long and asked. They assured us that our order was coming up. An hour in we started getting antsy because we had an hour for lunch. They said the chef was making our sushi and it should be out soon. At ONE HOUR AND TWENTY minutes still nothing and we had to leave. The waitress handed us our check.... before we got our food!!!! Absurd! Finally we got our sushi after and hour and a half and she gave us her apology and $4 off total. WHAT!?!? Do not go here if you have any plans at all the rest of the day. I had to eat my sushi on my cubicle and didn't even get a good discount for waiting an hour and a half for it.... so upsetting.

Just took the wife and kids there today. Surprisingly the sushi was great. The spicy California roll was so good we ordered another one. The habachi was amazing. The chef had a great personality, seasoned the food to perfection, and even played games with our kids. Had a groupon for Thursday thru Saturday only but they still honored it. Great food and service. I read the previous comments, sorry to the previous yelpers who had a bad experience here. We would definitely go back and would highly recommend this place!

I love the american dream roll here. The sushi here is awesome. However, when we tried a few other things from the menu, the food wasn't so great. Service is a little slow like the other reviewers talk about.

The new management has got it right. Go back and try it yourself. You won't be disappointed.
