This is really 3.5 stars. I'm loving it! Yes it is in the mall. Yes the sushi is just ok. But boy do they have a decent bibimbap for the price. Loved it. One of the best (only place in the mall) I'll eat a meal at. I'm not saying all their food was good. Tried the kastu don and it was pretty dry. You just can't go wrong with bibimbap though. Fresh veggies and yummy spicy sauce! Loved it. Plus my one yr old loves the miso soup! I just add in a few scoops of rice and he's a happy camper.

Highly recommend! The twelve oaks roll is delish! The sushi chef is super fast and the place can get busy. The only thing that bothers me is the paper plates but what can you do

I was told it was supposed to be cheap. We still paid $13 per person for lunch while choosing cheaper options. That would be a moderate price range. Seating are is very anti-climatic. Everything's served on/in styrofoam. I might be very picky (I'm quite a sushi connoisseur) but to me it was grocery store sushi when it comes to flavor and quality. Tuna was rubbery, rice wasn't rolled properly, nothing seemed to have flavor. The upside was in portions, they were rather large. Sorry, I don't share the enthusiasm

Accidentally posted a review for this place and tell won't let me delete it! Guess I'll be trying it this weekend!

Sushi was fresh, but cut very thin, similar to the thickness found in your local big brand grocer. Also, surprisingly pricey given so many comments from others saying they were cheap, as well as the single ($) review. My two rolls, a rainbow and a dragon, totaled $24. I also have a condo in downtown Chicago, and $12-$14/roll is common.....but not in metro Detroit, especially given how thin the cut of fish. Perhaps it's because I ordered something not on the normal menu?

Best sushi in town. It used to be Ann Arbor too but it seems like the Ann Arbor store is closed. Food quality is too notch and service is so nice.

Even though the reviews said this place was pretty good, I was skeptical. However, they were right! This isn't going to be an experience in fine dining but a great meal after some shopping. I got the spicy tuna roll. It was flavorful and the spicy mayo had enough kick to it. My order was ready in 5 minutes so I didn't have to sit around very much. I do wish they had put some sesame seeds on the rice. I missed that added flavor. Like others have said, the environment isn't the greatest. It's a mall so you're probably going to overhear teens on group dates like I did. It's pretty entertaining to me so this could be a plus. Everything is served on paper goods so it looks kind of sad. But other than that, pretty good sushi. Definitely will try again.

Don't let the mall location fool you, I travel far and wide for their udon noodle soup. It's probably the best I've ever had. If I'm really hungry, I'll also get the Mexican roll but I can't finish them both. 10 bucks a piece, plus they bring it to your table. Free wifi and a cozy little corner booth seat for a group of 3. Consistently good food, this place is great!! :)

Really, its better and fresher than most all other places in Novi. It's deceiving because it's in the mall and it's very food-court-esque. But don't be fooled this place is a little hidden diamond! My mom and I get take out sushi from here 2-3 times a week at least.. the owners are so sweet, they know our orders by heart. I am moving our of state soon and I am so incredibly sad I will leave this amazing cheap sushi place behind!!

a very, very, very solid 4 stars. the spice tuna roll is good, but i thought it could use more fire and more tuna. i am spoiled by my seattle spice tuna rolls of all kinds... the mexican roll had good fire and good ingredients. my bro-in-law really liked it. the udon broth was good, by the time i got some it wasn't hot, and there were no noodles left, but i got the remaining floating fish cake, shrimp tempura, and crab. pretty darn good. i also had the bul-go-gi dish. when it came out the meat looked really good. and so it was! my bro-in-law said it's a little on the sweet side, but i didn't mind that at all. i'd say it was very slightly on the sweet side, but it was very, very well prepared. it's nicely lean, but still got some gristle in there to make it tasty. the rice was pretty much steamed perfectly. pretty picky about my steamed white rice i am. writing and thinking about it now is when i realize how well it was prepped. and they do a very nice trick where they put a heavy duty piece of aluminum foil underneath the bul-go-gi. it pleases the OCD side of me that wants food to stay in it's place on my plate. no mixing. i'll control the mixing, please. cuz otherwise all the awesome juices from the awesomely made bul-go-gi would spread underneath the steamed rice, and the rice would absorb it all and leave the meat less juicy. not good. if they served coke products i would probably give them 4.5 stars. that pepsi stuff is for the birds. i was weak and i got a diet pep for the carbonation. and i didn't get a chance to try the complimentary barley tea, but i suspect it's pretty good. i think my sister's fam comes here to the mall to eat korean food prepared by koreans in a japanese them restaurant fairly regularly. and now i know why!

Certain establishments within a mall (Twelve Oaks) are frowned upon, a sushi spot being one of them... When I walked in it reminded me of one of those corny restaurant scenes from a 1990s sitcom. There was a lady behind the counter dicing away, extremely soft spoken & mumbling with her head down. After I finally figured out that she was trying to take my order There was also a few guys off to the side partially concealed behind a curtain who also appeared to be madly preparing food, but the place was completely empty... Even though the place had that cafeteria feel of serving trays and styrofoam dishes, she told me to be seated and that she would bring the food to my table. Whatever, lady...First she brought my salad and the dressing spicy as hell! I wasn't expecting that. It was the typical Japanese-ginger dressing, but I have never experienced it spicy. My throat and the outer edges of my mouth were on fire (I'm kind of a wimp with spicy). A short while later, she brought my Philadelphia roll. By this point I just knew it would taste like grocery store sushi, especially since it looked all congealed. Surprisingly it was great, very fresh! Pricing was reasonable; roll was $5 and some change, that hot ass salad was around $3. I was also a little less than thrilled that the same woman who was preparing the food was also handling the register, although she did clean her hands before returning to prepare food. I wonder hat was with the guys behind the curtain and why couldn't they help... Another customer placed in order in the midst of her preparing mine & so she had to stop mine to tend to the next customer. Seemingly, not vert efficient... On my second visit there was a chef and a second person to take orders/handle the register, so a better experience. Despite my initial skepticism due to it being within a mall and its general appearance, I would return here and recommend trying it. Great lunch spot for pricing and speed of service :-) 3.5 stars as a whole, 4 for quality of food...

Surprising good for a mall sushi restaurant. Not top notch but better than I thought they would be.

Absolutely delicious. I drive to the mall almost 3 times a week for this sushi. It is so good. I wouldn't ever think to have mall sushi.. but I decided to try it and fell in love. The A.C.C roll is my favorite. Everything is fresh and it's the same husband and wife every time. I strongly recommend.

Yum yum yum! I gave it 5-stars because I think it's the best place in the mall to eat and is better than Ajishin, a sushi/noodle restaurant in Novi. The owners are friendly, and they treat their regular well, often giving free soup and/or salad! Many people balk at eating sushi in the mall but Sushi Cafe has a great selection of rolls, which are always freshly prepared and taste great. Their rice is always perfectly cooked and seasoned, and they give a pretty generous amount of fish, whether you order nigiri or a roll. Their spicy tuna/salmon is delish because they add just a perfect dollop of spicy sauce on the top rather than mixing it with the fish. I particularly love their Udon because of all the great veggies they add in it. The soup is perfectly salted and piping hot, so be careful when you sip! If you're in the mall looking for food, or even looking for a quick and inexpensive sushi place for dinner, I highly recommend Sushi Cafe. Their service is ALWAYS quick, and they make sure to pack everything tight if you're getting your food to-go. Love this place!

I hate to downgrade this place but lately any sushi I get here is mediocre at best. I think the "mall food curse" has caught up with Sushi Cafe. The staff and sushi chef are still super cool but the rolls are not. On my most recent few visits, I have felt that the fish and other ingredients aren't up the freshness and quality standards one should expect from a sushi place. And today, I even thought the miso soup was off. (how can miso soup be bad?) It's sad to see this place's quality decline, I'm not sure when I'll return.

I can't believe I found good sushi in a mall! I wouldn't have even tried Sushi Cafe but a coworker recommended it and gave it her endorsement. I tried the Novi Roll which is a tempura roll with crab and cream cheese topped with eel sauce and another light colored sauce which was extremely good. I also had edamame and some salmon nigiri. The edamame was very good and salty and the nigiri was fresh. The service itself was brusque but I attributed that to the fact that there were several customers in the cafe. I gave Sushi Cafe three stars because although the sushi is good and I will go there again it stops just short of totally delicious.

Probably one of the best sushi cafe's in the area. Always fresh, never tastes fishy or bad. Very friendly, and very fast.. This is btw Sears and pet store in Novi mall. I am so hooked every time I go to the mall... Thier house dressing is very good, and I loved their Miso soup. Very tasty. I also get the #25 Shimp tempura. Its always made perfect.....
