Greek Cuisine
Greek food is a fine melody of the finest pressed olive oil, fresh fermented bread, colorful vegetables, juicy meat, sea food all cooked in spices and fresh rosemary. The people from Greek were great scholars who aimed to excel in everything they do. The results are quite visible in their food as they are the inventors of olive oil which is beneficial to health. Greeks also made different type of wines from the best quality of grapes fermented in controlled environment.
Today, you can find hundreds of restaurants offering authentic Greek food or popularly termed as Mediterranean cuisine in New York city alone. People wait in line to taste the exotic Greek dishes like saganaki, taramasalata, souvlaki, loukoumades, spanakopita, moussaka, and many more. One thing which most people like about these authentic Greek dishes is abundant use of lemon juice, olive oil, fresh rosemary and sea salt. A smart mix of few ingredients can virtually take you on the pebble streets of beautiful city of Greece.
For those who don't have time to enjoy fine dining should try tasting the famous souvlaki with pita which is type of meat dish, also a trademark Greek fast food. For those who are vegetarian, or vegan can try different versions of Greek Salad. So, if you wish to enjoy a hearty yet healthy meal that tastes divine then try dining at the best Greek restaurant in your city. Greek cuisine not only tastes good but also help maintain your body in a natural way through healthy diet.

Love this place- the service is excellent, fast and accurate- the food is delicious- I've never had anything bad- I had the pastisio (sp?) yuuuuuum. Wanted to lick my plate. I love the red sauce. The dish was perfect- took half home- I will get it with green beans next time as too much starch with the rice. We split the tommy salad- yuuuuuuuuum! Delicious salad- finely chopped- wish I could get all salads chopped like that- hubs was disappointed with the misleading of 6 grape leaves appetizer - as it was really only 3 cut into halves- The bread is fresh and yummy

Under whelmed. The quality of the food was very average and somewhat bland. For dessert, I ordered a piece of carrot cake, for $6.35 but it was barely a sliver of a piece. To summarize, bland food, over priced and underwhelming.

It is time to get your Greek sausage on! I'm telling you, this is the best invention since Saganaki. And like Saganaki, it's served flaming, tableside. And by "it" I mean a plate full of deliciously crisp and savory sausages. My mouth is watering just talking about You really can't go wrong with any of the food here. It is all good. And Tommy's has a well-stocked, full bar, including a decent wine list. I say yay!

Salad was made with rotted lettuce. Some dishes with bland and undercooked chicken. My Mother and I used to frequent here last winter and spring. She enjoyed it so much. When we mentioned our concern about the lettuce and showed the waiter and a manager we were told it was the bottom of the lettuce. Without request or apologies she was sent a rice pudding and she's diabetic.

So I now know why this place is so busy. Before being Tommy's, this location turnover like clockwork every 12 months into a new place. We never went to this place because of the continuing changes of restaurants, and its not really near anything else. Its not like its on a dirt road, back behind the expressway, but it is along Grand River and its more of a place you drive by than a destination. OK, so this is a nice upscale diner. With a big menu, lots of options, with a greek influence, but you can get what you want, or you are not trying. Big portions, friendly staff, fast on their feet, what's not to love. Its a little noisey, but that's because its a popular place. We are coming back to try breakfast.

We ate at Big Tommy's for the first time this evening. The food, service and ambiance were first rate. The dinning room is well lit, clean, well furnished and beautifully laid out. They have a very nice bar. The food was excellent. We started with the spinach and cheese stuffed pastries and then the three of us shared the Tommy's chopped salad. Our three entrees were the gyros dinner, the chicken meat balls, and the vegetarian moussaka. They were served hot and tasty. Needless to say, there was plenty left to take home for dinner tomorrow. We finished with the best rice pudding I have ever eaten. Our waiter was super polite and was always around if we needed him. I was the only one at the table to order a cocktail from the bar and it was prepared perfectly. We will definitely be coming back.

amazingly delicious greek food with generous portion sizes. we had the little tommy's appetizer platter to start and the pastitsio (greek lasagna) and lamb chops. this was a bit too much for two for dinner but we don't regret it one bit...now we have a little something for lunch tomorrow. the greek lasagna has a bit of a cinnamon flavor which was a pleasant surprise. the lamb chops fall right off the bone-a must for all lamb lovers. of course even though stuffed to them brim i had to get a baklava to-go and i'm glad i did! we can't wait to come back and try some other items on the menu

I have been to Big Tommy's three times and have also used the carry out. So, I have a good feel for the restaurant. Big Tommy's is an upscale greek restaurant with a large menu and very good food. Do you like lamb chops? They are huge, tender and full of flavor. My favorite meal is the chicken meatball entree . . . they are not meatballs, but full flavored greek chicken patties. The Greek salads are fantastic as well. Prices are very reasonable. The atmosphere is decidedly upscale for dinner but I also feel comfortable going in shorts. Carry out is quick and efficient. Highly recommended.

Big tommys is the best Greek food that I have ever Tasted and the owners are first class owners And the employees are are great I love going there to eat
(5)Jeanine C.
Very good food. No wait. Our server, Dan, was very attentive and provided exceptional service!
(5)Krystal R.
Yummy food, I like the Cajun rock shrimp pasta and Vegetarian duo. Drink prices average? ($5 blue moon) Prices a bit higher than what you might expect for a greek restaurant (like a coney island I guess I mean) but you will likely have your lunch for the next day due to leftovers. We will be back.
(4)Roni C.
The food and service are wonderful! I absolutely Love the Big T's salad, it's Awesome!!!
(5)Kristal R.
Exceptional! The food lingers on your lips. The service is not only friendly but family. I could only pray for a place like this is Vegas!
(5)Christine F.
The Greek Trio was awesome! Service was prompt and friendly. Will definitely be going back!!!
(4)Eric G.
Great selection, Lamb with Rosa Marina is exceptional. Great atmosphere, Sunday brunch one of the best in town and for a great price! Owners are very hands on, always available and extremely friendly
(5)David A.
We have been coming to Big Tommy's Parthenon since it opened, and the food is as fine as it gets and as authentic Greek as you can find anywhere outside of Greek Town in Detroit. The management and waitstaff cannot be more professional and courteous than they already are. We continue to go back over and over again!!

I was told by a friend that Big Daddy's is back. The Big Daddy restaurant on Orchard Lake rd was one of my favs. Took the family their last night and I thought I was on Orchard Lake except when I was ready to drive home. We had Lamb Chops, Chicken Lemonato and some fettuccine alfredo for the kids. The Chicken Lemonato was identical and delicious. The greek yogurt desert was the best I've had. Great Job to the team there.

First time trying Big Tommy's, even though it's just down the street from the house. When my husband and I walked in we were warmly greeted by Elena, although she mistook me for another patron, she was very kind and we had a good laugh. We ordered the saganaki to start and it was perfect. Elena brought us 2 pieces of spinach pie, for mistaking me and for welcoming us for our first time. I ordered the gyro platter and my husband ordered the lemon rice soup & lamb & rosa marina. I don't know what the reviewer was talking about with the dry, bland, gyro meat, but mine was flavorful and tender. The lamb was excellent and falling off the bone. The rosa marina was over cooked and bland, but seeing as we loved everything else, we took it as a fluke. The soup could have used a little more lemon, but that was easily remedied. Our server was also very delightful, and provided us with fast but efficient service. We will be coming back!

I went there for the first time to this place with my teammates, lot of options with Chicken, Lamb, Fish, etc. I ordered Chicken meatballs with green beans and rice. Green beans and rice came with red sauce on it, they were ok not great but Chicken meatballs were great. I would recommend to try it, shape of the meat balls were flat but shape doesn't matter right? For desert, I had the Greek pudding. Not too much sugary but it was ok. My friends tried chicken kabob and Gyro they were good too.

Great Brunch on the weekends. When we go for dinner we always seem to get a sample plate of something
(5)Karen C.
My niece brought me to Big Tommy's for lunch while I was visiting family & friends in Michigan. The staff & food couldn't be any better. Our waiter Nick was working so hard, all the while he kept smiling. & suggesting. It is definitely a family restaurant with lots of atmosphere. I wanted to try dinner so we went back for dinner last night. The Big Tommy Salad is awesome, great lamb chops, (don't get Greek Style if you don't like your chops pounded flat .) My cousins had fish & the chicken lemonata which they loved as well. They brought us rice pudding for desert, yum. And...not on the menu are these wonderful lima beans in a red sauce. I wish they would open in Los Angeles...I would go all the time in a heartbeat.

Me and two girlfriends decided to go out to dinner before the big snow was to arrive! So, we decided on some good old Greek comfort food. Yum! Went to Big Tommy's, which use to be the old Manhattan Club and a few other restaurants since then. Walked in and it was familiar because I had frequented previously the Manhattan Club! The exception was that it was nice and bright, had around 8 televisions - quite large place, and was very clean! Sat down and the waitress came and took our drink orders - I noticed that they had drinks for adults and of course I order my favorite cabernet! We decided to order a salad to begin with - a chopped one, I believe it was called . OMG that salad was amazing. Had some sort of Greek creamy dressing on it and was very delicious. Ordered one salad and the waitress divied it up into three and we all had generous amounts on our plate! One of my friends ordered the lamb chops and me and my other friend decided to split lamb and peas. Now, we are all quite particular and know how Greek food should taste. Well, we were not disappointed in the least bit! The one plate that we split I was able to take what was left for today - lunch & dinner!!!!! The owner's father came over to our table, who happens to be the previous owner of Big Daddy's Parthenon. He sold and moved to Manhattan - has to be rich to live there! Anyway, to get back to the review - he said that he would send us some of his Greek yogurt and a few other specialties! I cannot tell you how remarkably delicious his yogurt is, they make it right there in the restaurant. He stews grapes and drapes the sauce over the yogurt and adds the grapes on top of the yogurt - OMG, I think I am in love again! Then he sends over some rice pudding, ahhhhhhhh, the best I have ever tasted. Cooked remarkably and just enough cinnamon on top. Then some sort of cake comes over which sort of reminds me of a Tiramisu. Taste that and by that time if I take another bite I will explode! All I can say is this restaurant is remarkable! Got to meet the owner, her son and her father - a wonderful family and they take great pride in their restaurant. Definitely I will be back and if you can go sometime soon you will not be disappointed!

Ahhh yes..... If you can't cater to customers for a comedy show and your restaurant... Don't do both. If you are going to the show, eat somewhere else beforehand bc you will not get any food or drinks. Worst service ever. Will never go back for the show. Food is good. But what good is that when you don't get the food.
(1)Gloria H.
excellent server & delicious, flavorful food. Friends suggested Big Tommys after upon hearing our complaint that the metro are & Detroit lacked an authentic Greek restaurant (only Tarpon Springs Florida competes with Greece). Our entire family was amazed at the entrees. The lamb had incredible flavor and the green beans are thick and the sauce is just right...not salty, tomato based. The pastisto had many herbs and wasn't smothered in tomato sauce. The lemon soup was the true broth-like soup with out the added thickening agent. The Galaktabouriko dessert used the rosewater and didn't taste sugary. An amazing place! Very large pportions and attentive service.
(5)Gillian L.
Wonderful service and fantastic food! We also were given complimentary rice pudding when we asked about it! We will be coming here again for sure!
(5)Erin F.
Love, love, love Big Tommy's!!! We try to dine here at least once a week! Food is simply fantastic, waitstaff is great, and the owners are wonderful people who make you feel like family! Best gyro meat in metro Detroit! Lamb chops are to die for! Don't forget to try their desserts, especially Tommy's homemade Greek yogurt!!! Try it, you won't be disappointed!
(5)Joshua B.
Owner is pretty surly. Service was good when I was there last but food is just so mediocre at best. You are a "Greek restaurant". Why is your "greek food" so bad? Gyro was dry and bland. Coneys tasted microwaved. Don't get me started on the salads. Blah.
(2)Russell H.
Save yourself the hassle of going downtown, this is better then anything I've had in Greek Town. On a recent trip to Big Tommy's I was thoroughly impressed with the quality of Greek food that can be had in the Novi. We had the lamb chops, and a trio of moussaka, patisio, spanakopita. The flavors were spot on, and everything was delicious, and prepared to perfection. My only minor complaint, is the lack of Greek ambiance, the inside looks more like a modern traditional diner, then an ethnic eatery, A little Greek music would have gone a long way, in what was a very quiet restaurant on a Wednesday evening.
(4)Jessica M.
I was seated right away by friendly staff and ordered the vegetable plate. The waiter brought us extra goodies and was dead-pan funny & enjoyable. The food itself was perfectly fine, as were the options.
(3)Philip I.
We got the buffet and it was amazing! Great food! Big verity! The staff was friendly and quick with drinks! The price for the buffet was $10.99 and they also had breakfast and dinner food on the buffet. They even had a man making omelets and waffles.
(5)Crysta D.
Amazing experience. I went with my mom we sat down by a very nice hostess and 2 minutes later the owner brought us free spinach pies.... DELICIOUS spinach pies we ordered and had our food very fast which was delicious as well and enough for 2 people. The waitress came back and asked us if we wanted dessert we saod since we were going to a movie after and she brought us a free rice pudding. The food was amazing so was the service. I highly recommend it. Ill be back for sure!

First time in the door was about a week after they opened. All I wanted was a carry-out menu so we could peruse it at home. Well they were so busy, plus it was during mid-lunch rush, the hostess simply was to slammed to accommodate my request. Now lets fast-forward to last night. Took a dear friend to Big Tommy's for a little test run. Tommy & Angelo seated us in a booth and Lucky our server stood by to take those all important beverage orders. So moments later, Angelo reappeared from the kitchen with 2 Spinach pie triangles - 'Try these on the house and let me know what you think'. Apparently being a Greek guy makes me more of an expert. B.T.'s hit a four bagger with the Spanakopita! Next came the standard Yasoo cheese (just average in my book) and some hand rolled Grape Leaves (lemon sauce had broken with visable lumps and lacked that signature 'Lemony' edge I expected). She ordered a huge salad (must admit I liked the pinch of dill they added) and opted to take half home for today's lunch. I on the other hand went with the Roasted Lamb with Okra entree-du-jour. It was absolutely fall-off-the-bone-tender with sweet, young, tender Baby Okra. The Chef had just the perfect pinch of Cinnamon in his tomato based sauce! It seemed almost criminal to leave that last slice of tasty Greek bread in the basket so I worked the sauce in my plate like a man with a squeegee - the china looked like it had just been washed (lol)! Ok I'll admit I felt like a BFP (Big Fat Pig) when Lucky dropped two creamy sweet rice puddings on the tables edge. After all this descriptive narrative the question remains; would I return? Hummmm - yes tonight with family visiting from Cleveland! Figure we'll ride it out with Lucky again - very colorful topical Greek waiter!

I grew up eating Greek food in Chicago. Now, living in Texas it's not as plentiful. While in Novi for business I saw this place on drive by and yelp. As good as the reviews. I had the gyro plate with the sausage appetizer. Both were well flavored with plentiful portions.
(5)Karthik P.
We had the spinach pie and vegetarian moussaka. Both were delicious, will definitely come here again.
(5)Allison B.
This review is for brunch. Really a less than average quality brunch buffet with a higher than average price. I might return for regular service but definitely avoid the brunch buffet.
(2)Laura J.
Sunday brunch with friends. Great breakfast buffet with both breakfast items and lunch items. Maybe this wouldn't be a plus for someone else, but I'm all about scrambled eggs, bacon, steamed veggies and rice pudding all in the same meal. The food was very tasty and the buffet seemed pretty clean and well maintained which is important for me. I thought the price was also extremely reasonable. I'll be back.
(5)Tracie F.
Um...only the BEST food ever!!!! If I could give 10 stars I would. The food, the service, the atmosphere and Big Tommy are spot on! The portions are HUGE!!!!! I highly recommend the village salad and the lamb. It was so tender it was falling off the bone. The rice was great as was the saganaki. Truly nothing was disappointing. On one of our visits we had a large group of people and Big Tommy treated us all to dessert. I really felt like family when we went. This is our default place for the best Greek food ever when in the area.
(5)Hannah H.
100% PERFECTION. Everyone there was beyond hospitable and the food was SO delicious. My boyfriend is from Detroit but we live in Texas and wanted some good Greek food and randomly came across this place. Joe the bartender is awesome and gives exceptional service. We had the saganaki, the flaming sausage, the gyro platter and the octopus appetizer and they were delicious.
(5)Gennifer C.
Went for the lamb shank and was not disappointed. It was so tender it fell off the bone. The sause it was served with was perfect not overpowering. Ordered a mix drink and loved that too. Definitely coming back.
(5)Joe S.
Service was great. Food was good. Nothing really popped out at us that we absolutely loved, but nothing was bad. Large selection of food and interesting beer options.
(4)Secret A.
After a 3 year string of inconsistent food and service, the other day was the last straw. Can you believe the Manager tried to purposelessly short change me $1? Not only did they over charge me on a menu item, they acted like they were doing me a favor buy paying me back the difference. He goes on and on about how he knows the menu like the back of his hand and its been the same forever, etc. Even though I order the SAME THING every time I go there, he acts like I'm the one mistaken on the pricing. Then he doesn't even pay me back the whole difference, thinking I won't notice. I called him out on it in from of the customers. I WILL NEVER, EVER go back to these rude, disrespectful, batch of scammers with substandard food. And the bartender, with the dark hair, I deal with almost every time I went there is useless as well.
(1)Eric Z.
I ate here once and the staff was friendly and the food was adequate but nothing amazing.
(2)Austin D.
We went for our first time last night on the recommendation of some fiends of ours that are greek and we're very happy we did. We usually go down town Detroit to greek town but decided to give them a try and the food and service were outstanding. Big Tommy ' s was a keeper, we will be back again soon.
(5)Carolyn E.
I'm sorry guys, I don't know why this place is getting good reviews. The food was terrible and over-priced. I LOVE Greek food, and often try to find places that serve quality homemade faire. Big Tommy's did not deliver. We ordered the Greek Trio to start, thinking that was safe, as it IS a Greek restaurant. It was $15 and I was absolutely not impressed. I ordered the Tabouli Salad for dinner, and it was OLD. Clearly, it had been sitting all day, possibly longer. It was wet and flavorless. Lastly, my husband ordered the capellini and cajun rock shrimp pasta which tasted like jarred alfredo sauce, and contained what looked like "bait shrimp". For $15, that is unacceptable. I would NOT recommend this restaurant. If you're looking for good Greek, head down the road to Plaka Cafe in Plymouth; it's amazing and less costly.
(1)Alice C.
I came here for lunch takeout one day, wanting to branch out from the standard work lunch places. I got the big t's Parthenon salad (small is plenty by the way) with gyro meat. Who knew dill can make a salad so amazing! The salad was crisp and flavor. Would have liked a some more beets but great nonetheless. Also really like their dressing, tasted a bit like Italian but tangier. I was looking forward to the gyro meat, and found it was average. The gyro meat here has nice flavor, but I would have like it more if it was crispier like the meat at Coney Islands. Maybe I can ask for it grilled further next time (blasphemy?). The pita bread that came with the salad was fresh and tasty. All in all, it's a place I would keep on my lunch list.
(4)Samantha R.
Wonderful from top to bottom. Beautiful interior, wonderful and friendly staff and the first good home cooked food I have had in years. The flavor is out of this world and delightfully authentic. I have not been this pleasantly surprised in a long time. The manager already knew me by name after one visit and gave us a free desert for returning. .. they also have a comedy club on the weekends. Great people, great food, great experience
(5)Brian R.
Old school Greek Food, It was like being at a Coney Island. I just expected it to be great , service was slow, took a long time to get our drinks and appetizers; lamb chops not very tasty and over cooked. I told the server and they NEVER OFFERED TO RECOOK THEM!!!!!! It only went down hill after that, like I said old school greek place. ONLY GOOD IF THEY KNOW YOU!!! Other tables around us got treated like special guest and us like we didn't matter. All though the greek yogurt was very good I think I would only go back for the yogurt as a carry out. It seemed like they tried to copy the Tommy Salad from the original at Little Daddy's. Doesn't even seem to compare to Little Daddy's.
(1)James M.
I was surprised. This spot on G.R. was always a loser location to me, restaurants came and went. For some odd reason we pulled in...well, actually we had to 'cause I had the hunger shakes. I'll omit the hyperbole and just say the food was authentic Greek (like I would know) and the service was fun and engaging. I had their featured salad and finished my partner's chicken meatballs. Both dishes were marvelous. I will go back.
(5)Renee A.
I was pretty impressed with the atmosphere, staff and let me tell you, the octopus is out of this world! Ive dined in some pretty fabulous 5 star restaurants and this is the best octopus ive ever had! My 9 year old niece is the most finicky eater omg she loved it. And if you aren't a seafood eater you will be once you have it. Omg, delicious. I can't wait to go back lol. I have two babies one is almost 14 months and the other almost 4 months.....if I had more freedom lol I would be there weekly! Service is also great.....
