In Northville, it is hard to find a good, un pretentious and relaxing sports bar. Most have too many strollers in front or 6 dollar beers or food on a little tinny plate and no TV . This is what you expect from a sports bar - big TV's, good prices on beer and great food served in good helpings. Food is always good, service is always good and prices are great, especially for Northville. - just a great place and what you would expect.

Decent food for a sports bar and good service and atmosphere. However, whoever is deciding on the beer selection (draft and bottle) needs to either pass that job to someone else, or get educated on what's happening. Selection is barely a notch above Buffalo Wild Wings and where did the nice Michigan craft beers go? You have lost that little edge you once had which is much needed in Northville. Take a trip to One Under in Livonia to see how its done. The people want more than Miller Light or extreme HOPS. My last visit was today when they replaced the one remaining craft with something "corporate".

My first negative review ever. I am not that guy. Matter of fact I am...was a weekly customer. Anyway I am not The guy to send food back. But I just couldn't eat the burger. It was burned. Bad. So I sent it back. 25 minutes later the waitress brings the second burger to the table. She looks at me and said that's just as bad as the first one isn't it. She apologized. I said to her that it wasn't her fault that someone in the kitchen can't cook a friggin' burger to save their life. I reassured her it wasn't her fault. I asked for the check. I needed to go home to get something to eat as I hadn't eaten since breakfast 12 hours ago. She brought the check. It was a full check including the beer I didn't order. I asked to see the manager. She said the manager was not in. I asked for the owner. She said he wasn't in. I asked who the man behind the bar in the black fleese was. She said the owner. I said that I'd like to talk to him. I am not coming back here ever but he should know that there is a recent and growing problem in his kitchen. 25 more minutes elapse. He aggressively approached the table saying who dropped the "f-bomb" to my waitress. I said to him this is not the principal's office and to stand down. He (Phil) said I'll make you a deal, I will comp the meal and drinks if you will never come in here again. I said other than being 25 minutes late on the ban (because I am never going back) that is a perfect solution. Because I am a (former) regular customer, I saw the exact thing happen last week. I thought the customer was being unreasonable...that is until last night. She said the same thing as she was walking out. That she was a sports den regular until then. Beware the kitchen is in deep trouble and the owner was condescending and ignorant to my situation.

The atmosphere is good. The food is good. The service is ok during normal days and they seem to really struggle during sporting events (ie busy times).
(3)Jeri S.
The tacos are good. I had Katie and Molly as my bartenders.

Excellent food, good specials. One caution: lunch service is S-L-O-W. So slow, I've stopped going. Can't do it under an hour, so I can't go anymore. It may have improved since I've stopped going. Dinner was also slow too, but I think that's improved slightly. They do have charity fundraiser events. I like to see local businesses help the community. Burgers come with a lousy bag of chips. You can upgrade to fries. I recommend the seasoned waffle fries. The new patio built last season looks nice. I've never sat out there because either the weather was crappy or the patio was mobbed with patrons.

The Den has treated us well each time we've went. The burgers are good, shoe string fries are tasty and the zip sauce is quite good. This was probably a poor drink choice for this type of place, but after ordering a dirty martini twice, I've decided that The Den just isn't the place to order a drink like that - stick with mixed drinks or beer. Our service was good and the wings game was on several TV's making The Den is a good place to watch a sporting event!

Good food, nice happy hour specials especially an all day happy hour on Sunday. Lots of TV's and a nice patio area. Will be coming back again soon.

I really like the Sports Den! As a HUGE spartan fan, hubby and I like to make a date of heading out to watch whatever game might be on, grabbing some beers and a bite to eat. There is another "sports bar" in this same building that I've also reviewed. If given the choice, I'd gladly pick the Sports Den any day of the week. The service is WAY better than the other establishment, and all of the food that I've tried has been good. During the summer they had 1/2 off Wednesdays, which was super nice to bring the kids up for lunch and have an inexpensive meal in the sunshine. They recently improved their patio space, and I really enjoy it out there - they have some fire pits and television as well. We watched the Rose Bowl (GOOOO STATE!) at the Den this year and it was not packed (roads were terrible) but still super fun. They turned the volume up loud enough so you could clearly hear the announcers, and they also had some beer specials - including two craft stouts from Right Brain Brewing company. Yum! Try them both if you get a chance, $4.75/pint on the CEO stout and the Dirty Girl Stout during January.

Pretty good nachos, chili is good! Cheese sticks very thick! Chicken fingers are alright not amazing, sweet potato fries met my needs. Good place to just go and chill out.. The bartenders could show a little more enthusiasm.

The "Den" is one of the established bars in Northville, there are a couple of them. It's been around for a while, and it's a decent place to hang out, especially in the summer and their patio area. From the patio, you can do a fair amount of people watching. It's a bar, with about 20 beers on tap, with a decent selection of bottled beers. Good size menu, dominated by burgers and sandwiches. No sandwich is that outstanding, but nothing to complain about - solid food. Decent happy hour specials, Drink and food. This is also a decent football hang out place, pro and college. This is a local place, a little of the beaten path, but a place I would go back to, if I was in Northville looking for a beer.

Horrible place, although the decor is great and at the right location the food is overpriced for small portions, and on top of that the food isn't even good. Your best bet is to go to Coney, the food is 10x than this!
(2)Katherine P.
Great service and food! I also really enjoyed the atmosphere :)
(5)Debbie P.
Love coming here to watch a game. Food is usually pretty good. Had the chicken enchiladas tonight. Not recommended! Very dry! They never checked back to see how my food was. I left 3/4 of my plate and she just picked it up and took it away, not even asking if I wanted a box. She must have known it wasn't good. Try the pizza, it's great. Also, the ribs are some of the best I've ever had.
(4)Lynn H.
Good food, decent service, and a great selection of beer makes this a solid choice on any night. I especially like their sweet potato fries.

Best parts about this spot are the location and number of TVs for a sports bar. It's one of the more busy bars in downtown Northville. The patio is large and shady with a TV mounted on the outside wall, making it the perfect setting for lounging on a nice weather day during a baseball game or any other big televised sports event. Another good part about this business is the amount of food and drink specials, especially during Happy Hour. Selection on tap has enough variety and all are $1 off during Happy Hour, along with a certain amount of apps priced down to $5. However, the worst part about this place is the quality of food. I ordered the Chicken Chunks and my friends ordered the Sliders. I know what you're thinking: a) I shouldn't expect much with bar food any way and b) The titles of their dishes aren't appetizing so I should have predicted the quality of food that way...But the menu descriptions that followed made them seem at least edible. The Chicken Chunks were supposed to be a "healthy alternative" to chicken wings. These haphazardly cut-up pieces of chicken breast sat in a pool of poorly seasoned oil and came with browning celery and what tasted like bulk/grocery store pre-made cole slaw. It was one of the most unappetizing looking plates I've ever seen. The Sliders looked like something that had been frozen and then re-heated, very plain- just thin patties on generic buns. If I had to do it all over again, I would have just come for the drink specials and ate dinner somewhere else.

Good food for a good price! Ordered the Den Special, and my burger was cooked just right! I was also given plenty of fries which was awesome. Our waitress was on point with humor and friendly good service. I will definitely be returning sometime in the near future. I've never been disappointed by this place.

If you are looking for a bar that serves food, then the Sports Den is a decent fit for you. Excellent selection of drafts and bottles and reasonable prices. Food menu is as yelp says it "Meh, I've experienced better". Varied menu items, but the few times I've been there, the food is so so. Had sliders and mac n cheese last time I was there, the sliders were over cooked and the buns dried out by the heatlamp. The mac was nothing special.... lots of processed american. Atmosphere is fun for what it is, a sports bar. Good place to hang with friends, have a few beers and watch the Tigers.
(3)Lori G.
Update on the food...pretty decent bar food. My husband loves the pizza. It looks like and he's says it's an above average bar style. I've been getting the ribs. They always fall right off the bone. The sauce is pretty standard, but tasty nonetheless.

"The Den" as we like to call it has pretty good food and a fun atmosphere for watching sports. When the weather is nice (so maybe July and August) there is outdoor seating with heaters for those of us who get cold easily. If i don't care about calories that day then I get the fish n chips. If I want to be good, then I get the salmon salad. They have a decent kids menu too. If it's not too busy and you have kiddos with you then head to the back room where there is a pool table. It's worth a few minutes of cheap entertainment for the kids and a break for the grown-ups.

Stopped in Labor Day weekend Sunday after golf for dinner and a drink. Ordered spinach dip appetizer. Pita came out fried. Sent back for baked pita. Kitchen then closed early - customers still coming in on an extended weekend. Cooks running the show l???? Not smart!

We went to The Den for my wife's birthday to play pub trivia. It was the first time my wife and I and our friends had been there. I liked it! The beer selection was very good for a sports bar and the food was good, too. I had the Juicy Lucy and it was good. My wife had the Pizza Burger and only wished there was more sauce, but she likes lots of sauce. The wait staff was pretty good. We did have to wait quite a while for our server to come back after she brought us our bills, but other than that drinks were kept filled and plates were cleared quickly. If you're in the Northville area and looking for a cold beer and a good burger you can't go wrong at The Den.

Been to the Den a couple times. Typical sports bar, so nothing out of the ordinary to offer. They have lots of TV's, beer and food, so it's not ground breaking. Only ate there once, so I can only comment on the pizza. It was actually pretty good for bar food, but the waitress couldn't have been any less friendly or engaging. She could have been having a bad day. I can't imagine her working in customer service very long with her sour attitude. She didn't do anything directly to us, as far as being rude or anything, just had an incredibly salty look on her face and sat food and drinks on the table with little to no interaction. Not even an "enjoy your meal." I live in Northville so if I want to a sports bar to go to, this will probably be it, but there are other choices that are just as good, if not better. It is a nice, clean establishment though. UPDATE: Have been here several times since the initial visits. Things were better. Upgrading from 2 stars to 3.

If you take it for what it's worth, you will be satisfied. It's a comfortable place to watch a game and have a few beers. The owner Phil is a great guy who continues to put good investment in to the place. Service could be quicker but the staff is friendly. Pricing matches the quality and value of the food. The new patio is a great place to hang out in the summer. Good casual hangout spot!

Updated -- 9/22/15 I'll keep this short and sweet.. if you want to watch a game this is a good bar for it, they have a awesome patio with tvs on it. You can sit outside having a refreshing beverage, people watch and watch the game on tv. I used to highly recommend it because of the specials, affordable pricing and great staff but now it's on par with pooles tavern and everywhere else in northville, specials are mediocre and staff turnover has been high the last few months. I am..was..a regular here but now I find myself not wanting to go there and going to other bars for after work happy hour or a night out and having a better experience. They recently revamped their daily specials. Not so much for the better either, basically they just raised prices and took away some really delicious food specials. Daytime bartender is fantastic, attentive, personal and polite. Evening servers are hit or miss now. They used to have phenomenal waitresses then let some of them go and hired some meh servers.

Ordered wings and salads from the Sports Den for take out tonight for the Super Bowl. Got home and found the wings didn't have any buffalo sauce on them. Called back and the hostess volunteered to make new wings for us. When I arrived back at the Sports Den the manager came up to me. Instead of apologizing for providing the wrong order, he asked me where the original wings were. When I told him they were at home, he told me that he needed those in order to know for sure that they had made the wrong order. (Really?! ) He then proceeded to explain to me (over and over and over for ten minutes) that his cooks had said that they made the right order but that he would give me new wings anyway. Ultimately I got new wings but only after withstanding10 minutes of being accused of stealing them. Yep, that's what I wanted to do during the Super Bowl - spend my time driving back to steal wings. Geez.

Good place to grab a drink and watch the game. Decent food.

My wife and I went there on 9/5/2013 with a coupon from the Entertainment book. The server said that they quit taking coupons from this book in June. Sounds like a "Bait & Switch". I will give it one star because my draft was $2.50.
(1)Chris D.
Great place. The inside is a little dark for my liking but the real gem is their massive patio. Mixed drinks are a mixed bag, some a pretty good but others are pretty darn bad (worst mojito ever!). You are always safe with beer though and their patio will keep me coming back.
(4)Fred M.
Prices are high like other places in downtown Northville. Food is poor to nothing special, service was slow. My wife's chicken sandwich was clearly burnt and we choose not to seek a replacement menu item as the service was slow, we did not have the time to wait around for the replacement item. Next time we will go back to Poole's the prices are the same and the service and food is much much better.

Friendly, good, and fast describe the Sports Den. Great location. Good food, EXCELLENT burgers, and really good pizza. Menu variety is great, with new specials almost every week. The waffle fries are excellent! The waitresses are fantastic and friendly. Just got back from there, in fact.

The Northville Sports Den has certainly accumulated a following being in a somewhat awkward spot of downtown Northville. I give it 2.5 stars, but don't get me wrong - I do like it. It's just not my fave. I've got to start the Yelp curve somewhere! I've been to The Den a handful of times now, often on Sundays. The bloody mary isn't bad, and it's only $4 during football games. The Juicy Lucy - two slices of cheese encased inside a burger - has never failed me. The burgers come with a lame bag of potato chips which has always irked me, and while the shoestring and waffle fries aren't too shabby, they're pretty pricey hovering around $3-$4 for a side. That being said - the burgers are always juicy and quite big for less than $7. To wrap it up: The parking situation is ample. The bar is open late. There's a good mix of a crowd. The bathrooms are decent. They even have live music and trivia, which I love. Overall, the place just doesn't call to me. The specials are never amazing. The only reason we keep returning is because they have some fantastic TVs outside, which makes for a fun football-filled afternoon! The beer isn't cheap, but I've had a Den bartender tell me the Northville crowd is willing to pay more. Even so, Miller Lite is Miller Lite and fried mushrooms are fried mushrooms. The menu, service and atmosphere are simply decent. I'll return because I love supporting Northville business.

The food here is great and very fairly priced. The wraps are my personal favorite. They have good drink specials!

This place went to hell in a hand basket since we were last there a month and a half ago. The waitstaff is now a bunch of kids. When we walked in we stood at the entrance for a couple minutes- the greeter was too busy flirting with a busboy to acknowledge us. Finally, the busboy runs by us and says "it's not my fault." When we finally seated, rather than taking a few seconds to wipe off a table at a window, the greeter sat us in a dark corner seat and threw the menus on the table rather tan hand them to us. Our waitress was prompt with our drink orders, but didn't bother telling us what the specials were- even though the restaurant was near empty at 6:30 on a Saturday evening. The menu was extremely lacking on their past specials- the only specials were a Slider plate and Coney Dogs. I was hoping for Lake Perch or Fish Tacos- two items they use to have on the menu regularly (come on, a pub in Michigan that doesn't feature Lake Perch in the summer???). Our food arrived quick enough- I opted for the shrimp and chips, my partner a burger. The shrimp was WAY over-cooked and sitting on a bed of old, wilted brown iceberg lettuce and the fries were tepid, limp and greasy. My partner's burger was chewy (ordered medium rare) and dry and his fries were the same as mine. A manager walked by and asked us how our meal was and we told her exactly as I reported above. She apologized and sent our waitress over, who offered to get us more fries and a free dessert. We declined. The head manager then came over and offered the same- we declined again and she said that they recently hired new cooks, would report what we told her and gave us 20% off our bill. Complimentary drinks would have been a better offer... Next time we have date night in Northville and want Pub faire, we are heading to Pooles.

I will for sure return here because it's a local place and it's actually kind of cool. Plenty of tvs and plenty of seats. The happy hour and food specials are a good deal. Got a burger one night for $2. It came Ron Swanson style which is how I like it. None of that stupid ass gorgonzola shit. Just a simple burger that's just right for when it's beer thirty. The service was on point. Bringing beers and food out when they were ready. I had the wings here and only ordered a small order like six or something. They were really good and some of the better wings in the area. I like my wings crispy and these were plenty crispy. Not spicy but could eat fire so your experience my vary. I liked them and should have ordered more. I say this because I had a few beers while hanging out with some bad ass chicks. This led me to order more food cause I was also hungry. I had the chicken tacos. I know this is a bar so you should stick to bar food. But being a Mexican American I always like to try Mexican food no matter where I'm at. The taco shells were flour tortillas that were deep fried. This was cool as some place don't usually do that. The chicken was hot and nice with the melty cheese. But overall they were just ok. Not much flavor in the chicken or the rice and beans. But like I said it's a bar. The wings and bar food is where it's at. Good for drinking and drunk food. Cool little local place, can't complain!
(3)Nycole K.
Not a bad little spot for watching sports. I've only been the one time and it was late at night on a weeknight, so not exactly crowded, but we wanted to watch some football and it certainly did the trick. They had really great "happy hour" specials, and this particular night there were 1/2 off appetizers and drink specials that made it a very affordable night out. There are already a lot of sports bars nearby that are a similar caliber, but if you lived close by this wouldn't be a bad little spot to frequent. The food was just fine for a bar and there were lots of HD TV's on which to watch your favorite game.
(3)Kristin D.
This is more a 3.5 star review. I like this place. Maybe I'm partial because it's walking distance from our apartment but I enjoy the food much more than Pooles Tavern down the block. This is a great place to come for affordable drinks and decent food. I tend to stick to the burgers, appetizers, and sandwiches as opposed to the 'dinner' options. They have a ton of beers on tap- including seasonal Michigan brews. Mmmmm Oberon.... *Homer Simpson Drooling Noise* It looks as though they gave their patio a makeover offering fire pits with cement block seating- very cool and perfect timing for summer. They even put a flat screen TV out on the patio so you can enjoy the Tigers games while relaxing outside. They also have TONS of specials- one being a medium 1 topping pizza and a pitcher of beer on Tuesdays for $14.50. Suck on that Little Caesars. A nice no- frills local bar with decent food and ice cold beer.
(3)Jay G.
Ducked in to this bar to catch the Lions game. Food was good, as expected for a sports bar. Service had been excellent! Very attentive and nice! We spent a couple of hours there and never felt pressure that we had to leave or keep ordering. Jenna was great and If it wasn't so far from where we live (Troy) we'd come back for sure.
