Craving Thai food and saw the high stars on Yelp and UrbanSpoon. My friends and I split three dishes - red curry with tofu, shrimp and veggie fried rice and chicken pad see ew. HUGE portions and delicious! The veggies in the fried rice were crisp and fresh; the shrimp were huge and cooked perfectly! Loved the bit of sweetness in the pad see ew. The red curry was really good and while we got it mildly spicy, there was definitely a kick! Very reasonably priced and lower prices for lunch.

Dinner was great tonight. Our group had Crab Rangoon's, Pad Thai, Drunken Noodles, Ginger Stir Fry and Coconut Cups. All the dishes where excellent, the service was friendly, attentive, offered suggestions, reasonable prices and quick to get order. Definitely will come back! It's a little hidden from the road in a strip mall. Signage by the road would probably help attract people.

My family and I visited Mr. Thai for the first time last night! What a great find. Food and service were terrific. Being the first time, we tried all te basics - Pad Thai, Satay, Tum Yum, Masaman. The Tum Yum is one of the best we have had around the USA. Satay was good; the Pad Thai was average and the Masaman was good. What I look forward to is eating some of their wonderful specialties. I would highly recommend this over New Bangkok in Northville. Aside from a far more friendly personality (sorry New Banagkok your staff has gotten too arrogant!) and the food is better. Although some of New Bangkoks dishes are better - i.e. Pad Thai. I hope the location does not kill this great restaurant. If you Thai food lovers want to keep it alive, let's get the word out! I for one plan too!!

The service was fantastic, friendly and the food was very authentic tasty Thailand style cuisine . I would recommend Mr Thai as it is hard to find good Thai food in the area. The portion and price was great as well. Thanks for a great meal : )
(5)Drew B.
Very friendly staff. Large portions. The pad see ew is very tasty.
(4)AJ C.
Nice and clean on the inside. I've had better Thai, but not in Northville and the fact they deliver is a huge plus.
(4)Nicole R.
Yum best Thai I've ever had! Love the pad Thai and Tom yum soup! Big portions and good prices also :)

This is one of the best Thai food places I've ever been to, bar none. Amazing food, very friendly staff, and reasonable prices. Can't be beat!

Mr. Thai is a local place that I've never considered eating at mostly because I know the calorie count of a plate of my favorite, Chicken Pad Thai ( yes, I'm boring). But during the holiday season, I rarely feel like cooking any more often than I already am, so we decided to give it a try. What a nice little cozy place. I was not a fan of the tables they have in their establishment, they were impossible to cross your legs under, but otherwise typical decor and feel for a family owned restaurant. Friendly service. Menu was not overwhelmingly large, but they did have a unique twist on the classic favorite- the curry pad Thai which was good. Wish it had even more curry flavor. The spring rolls were excellent- fresh, full and crispy with just the right amount of oil. Hubby was happy with his dish as well.

My favorite Thai place in Detroit. Metro. Try the choo chee fish, the curries (yellow, red or green), and the fried rice.

My fiancee and I decided to give Mr Thai a try after hearing some good reviews from friends. The restaurant is clean, the owner friendly, and the service was prompt. We decided to start off with the Tom Rad, which are little fish cakes and with a side of sweet chili sauce. They were pretty good. Next, we moved onto the entree ($10/dinner entree) which consisted of Pad Thai and Pad See Ew. Both dishes were generous in portion size but a little too salty for my taste. Overall, the service was good but the saltiness of the food won't be bringing us back.

I am a huge fan of the pad thai curry with chicken or shrimp, medium spice, at this restaurant. I have also enjoyed all of the curries on their menu. I've also ordered and served the pad broccoli with chicken and beef, or no meat for my daughter and other friends that are more picky.
(4)Patrick G.
Honestly, this is one of Northville's *best kept* secrets! Courteous and timely service, inexpensive and delicious dishes (I've every entree and enjoyed them all). If you're adventurous, ask the owner to recommend something and you won't be disappointed. I only wish the menu had more choices! Take Out is also available.
(5)Nathaniel M.
Since moving to Northville my wife and I have been frequenting Mr. Thai every once in a while. She loves the Pad Thai and I am a big fan of the curries and soups. The Basil Fried Rice was also very good. The only recommendation I can give is to watch out for the spice! I normally am a big fan of spicy food, but the medium spice almost made my food uneatable. I now order mild for my dishes and it is just the right amount.

Food = 3 stars, Service = 5 stars I went to Mr. Thai the first week they opened. Their menu is not very extensive, but I think it is all right since they are a smaller restaurant. The portions were pretty good, but the food was okay. I'm gonna give them 4 stars, because the service was great. They kept on checking on how we were doing, and even offered to pack me some more rice to take home with my left overs. Maybe they were being really nice to us because it was their first week, but the service was good nonetheless.
(4)Robert K.
This is my favorite Thai place right now. Great food! Good people!
(4)Patricia P.
I really, really like Mr. Thai. The people who own the restaurant are very nice, the food is delicious, and the prices are reasonable. We have never been disappointed, and we have become steady customers. Try the Panang Curry with Beef, it is fabulous.
(4)Catherine H.
By far the worst Thai place I have been to. My food was just mediocre. I got chicken kow pad and it was simply OK. I was not a huge fan of the Tom Yum soup. My husband was very displeased with his shrimp Kow Pad. The shrimp had not even been deveined, yet it was mixed in the fried rice for the unsuspecting diner. So he was quite disgusted when he got a mouth full of shrimp tails and shrimp poop. blech! The atmosphere was super quiet and uncomfortable as well.
(2)J Scott F.
The food is excellent. Fresh, hot, and authentic. And no the prices aren't too high. They do things like roast their own peppers.
(5)Katherine P.
Love the Laad Na! It's hard to find a place that can make it this good. Very fast service no matter how busy and always friendly! :)

The 3.5 rating for Mr. Thai is pretty appropriate. Three dinners, a side of soup, and an appetizer ran $42 before delivery and tip. Others here have said they don't have a delivery charge, but I guess they've changed that, because it's $3 now. We (me, my sister, and her boyfriend) ordered at about 7:30 on a Saturday night and got our food almost an hour later. When ordering on the phone, the guy on the other end spoke slowly and seemed to be very meticulous so as to not make a mistake, which I'd normally find a bit irritating, but given what others have said about them messing some things up, I was alright with it. Turns out, nothing in our orders was messed up. I had the drunken noodles and thought they were pretty tasty. The menu says they have jalapenos in them, but mine didn't -- which turns out to be a good thing, because as others have said, the medium heat level is really pretty spicy, and I love spicy food. I really can not imagine eating hot comfortably at all. So, make your spice level one down of what you'd expect. The crab rangoons were actually some of the better ones I've had anywhere, so that was a pleasant surprise. Again though, the menu says they have celery, but I didn't see or taste celery at all in them. The Tom Kha seemed to be loaded with coconut milk, so it was heavy and artery clogging... but delicious! While I've still yet to find drunken noodles that are better than Hot Pepper Thai in Waterford, these ones are still very good. The chicken at Mr. Thai seems to be unseasoned and possibly even frozen (very slight strange flavor to them), it was cooked fine. Being one of the (if not the only) delivery options in the area that isn't pizza, I can see myself ordering something from here again.

Very friendly owners! She is always nice to see.. Food is very tasty! We are fans of the hot & sour soup.. Chicken pad Thai, curry is good... Springs rolls a winner.. Always quick & easy to get in & out without a lot of wait! So far this is the very best Thai near me... & I love Thai & that's NO lie

With 5 Thai places between Northville and Downtown Plymouth, I think this is the best. Food is great and the owner is always nice and friendly. Food comes out fast and fresh. My all time favorite here is the Yellow Curry but all the noodle dishes are good. I don't know what the other reviewers are talking about re: the Tom Yum soup. I love it. Very gingery, nice complex spice, and is my go to when I'm feeling a bit under the weather. The reviews here are mixed because it depends on what your cup of tea is. I love the place as do several others that I've taken to here, but at the same time, my buddy thinks they are only okay and he loves the Thai Place in downtown Plymouth, where I was not a fan of that one at all (all heat, no spice/flavor). Best idea is go here and try it for yourself. At the very least you won't go home disappointed.
(5)Jim G.
I agree with the reviewer who said she didn't like the tom yum soup. There is something different in it and I don't like it either. I didn't even finish it. My entree was OK, but nothing special. The tables were unusual because they were made of glass and the menus were on a platform underneath the table. I guess it saves space and they don't have to keep handing them out for each customer. They just stay with the table. I will probably not go back because there are several better Thai places near where I live.

Kerrie, I second that completely. Unbelievable. They have lost our business months ago, for the exact same thing. We got wrongfully charged for delivery, I had to call several times to find out what was going on with my food (I finally got my order after about 55 minutes, living 2 miles away) as the delivery was promised within 20 minutes. To top it off, when we received our orders they were incorrect. I called back, and was promised the right food delivered in (again) about 20 minutes. After about fourty we got fed up waiting, called for an update and were told they were "not bringing it over anymore" for whatever reason!?? What?? So we are talking to the lady, all of a sudden a stranger comes on the phone... A customer of the restaurant decided to take it upon himself to tell us to leave the restaurant owner alone and tell us how unfair we were requesting our money back.... What??! Seriously Mr Thai. For real? You let a customer speak to another customer in the middle of a conversation? This whole situation left a disgusting flavor in my mouth and understandably got us extremely teed off. Now seriously upset we got in our car and drove over..and would you know we arrived in under 55 minutes. Turns out we live seven minutes away. When we arrive the same lady continues to argue with us and damn nearly refuses to refund our money. Absolutely pathetic customer service. Sadly, as their food is enjoyable.

I'm from out of town and ordered delivery. After 45min they called me and said there would be an additional 10$ charge because I was over 10miles away. I googled the distance and it was 5.6 miles. I called to tell them and they argued with me. There were 3 options to use in google maps they choose the 10 mile one to charge an extra fee. Poor customer service....

I've eaten here a few times now and the food is good but not great. For one, even the mildest dish is still very spicy and it's not possible to make it less spicy. Second, if you order a dish with chicken, meat, shrimp etc you won't get very much compared to other restaurants. The spring rolls, on the other hand, are about the best you will eat. Very good and generous portion.
(3)Abraham P.
The food was okay, but I was double charged and that's on top of the food already being overpriced to begin with. It's just not worth the hassle.
(1)Mik S.
My favorite Thai food in the area. If you like it spicey, this is the place - as a warning medium is quite spicey. You wont go wrong with the pad cashew.
(5)Amanda P.
This is an adequate Thai restaurant. I do prefer Bangkok Cuisine right down the road though. The fried rice dishes here are good, and I highly recommend the Massaman curry. The other curry dishes and the Pad Thai I have found just mediocre. The atmosphere and service are nice, but just not quite up to par with other area Thai restaurants unfortunately.
(3)Justin P.
Good food. Small inside. Nice for takeout or a casual outing
(4)Miike G.
Hot and sour soup was average but their chicken pad Thai was slightly above average. Nice lunch deal under $9 includes pad Thai plus soup carry out. Much better than the other two Thai places in Northville
(4)Kerrie M.
Well Mr. Thai, you blew it!!!!! It was a perfect day today to order Thai delivery.... freezing cold, a ton of snow, horrendous roads and an empty fridge..... The delivery girl showed up to tell us that an extra $3 had been added to our charge card for delivery. (Apparently, we live .8 miles over the 3 mile FREE delivery radius.) Funny, we have NEVER been charged for delivery the other five times we have ordered from Mr. Thai before?? No worries, right? I will just call and explain the situation.... I was expecting to be reimbursed the $3 for the mix-up. Not the case. With gas prices being high, I am very understanding of the need to charge for delivery. But I would have liked to have known ahead of time!! Especially since we have been used to getting free delivery from them all along! After having a conversation over the phone, letting them know of my disappointment, the woman refused to refund the $3.00. Unbelievable. I hope they are happy that they just lost a valuable customer over a measly $3!!!! The whole hook of that place was the FREE delivery, now that it is no longer available, I will be driving my lazy ass to New Bangkok which is 2 minutes from my home or my favorite place in downtown Plymouth! Ha! Take THAT!

What can i say!! This small little place can provide me the best i could have!! I had the curry pad thai there and it was amazing!! Friendly staff and good options!! This new place is definitely worth the drive!! if you never had thai food, i suggest Mr.Thai!! they have the best you can get!!

Northville's new alternative too the death grip New Bangkok has had on the town for 10 years. Reading all the positive reviews I decided too give it a try for take out lunch. I ordered the generic Pad Thai, Pad Kra Tiem (Garlic stir-fry), and the Pad See-Ew. All lunches come with Hot and Sour soup, an added bonus! The Pad Thai and Pad See-Ew were pretty good. The price and the portions were reasonable and generous respectively. My only small complaint was the similarity in taste, but they are basically the same thing anyway. I always go for something different every time I go out too a Thai restaurant. I love everything about Thai food and am always looking for a new favorite dish. The garlic stir-fry was lacking in both garlic and original flavor. Similar to a sweet soy and chili sauce. The dish consisted of meat and tofu pieces with no veg what so ever. A generous helping of very tasty sticky rice made up for the small portion of the main dish. I enjoyed my food and will go back again for the Pad Thai or curry dish. I guess I was just expecting something more special than I could make in my own kitchen from the stir-fry. A nice alternative too New Bangkok's anti-curry menu. Bonus: Free delivery within 3 miles

I was delightfully surprised by the quality, quantity, price, and speed of delivery. They have gotten a repeat customer.
(4)Lynn H.
Mr. Thai is owned and run by former Thai Basil employees, and the quality of food and service is just as good, if not better. For those of you who aren't familiar with Thai Basil, what this means is the food is excellent and the service is friendly.
(3)Christie M.
I really wanted to love this place. The lady was so nice...especially to our baby. I just couldn't. The food was lacking for me. True the portions are huge but it wasn't tasty enough. I rather have quality over quantity. I still have leftovers from here and its been a few days already. :( I don't know...the decor was ok. It was really the taste that killed for me. On the plus side...they have an awesome fish cake appetizer that was really yummy...the highlight for me. Pad thai and pad se eew was blah. :( springroll too. :(

Great food and reasonable prices! We tried the Tom Kha soup, rangoons, green curry with chicken and drunken noodle with beef. Everything was perfect! My wife ordered the green curry with a medium spice which was about all she could handle. The waitress kept asking her if it was too spicy and offered to cool it down with more coconut milk. My soup and drunken noodles with medium plus spice were the best I've had here in MI. I asked if they ever serve larb (one of my favorites), which is not on their menu, and she said they will but you call and order it ahead so that they can have time to make it. It's nice to have found a great Thai place in an area where their are plenty of mediocre ones to choose from.
(4)Dan N.
Ordered delivery, got the curry fried rice and pad thai. I asked for medium on the curry, mild on the rice. The medium spicy curry fried rice was inedibly hot, and I like my food spicy. The dishes had no depth of flavor, just one single overpowering taste to each dish. I don't think I would try it again.
(2)Jake S.
I've only had their pad thai and green curry but both are deeeelicious. The green curry uses fresh thai/sweet basil and there were big pieces of fresh cilantro in the pad thai. Fresh spices are always good to see :) I was hoping for some dishes with some kaffir lime leaf or holy basil in them but I'm probably asking too much for the location. If you live in any of the surrounding cities I'd definitely recommend going out and trying the green curry.
(4)HJ L.
I was hoping to find a good Thai restaurant nearby since moving to Northville a month ago. I stopped by on the way home and ordered Pad See Ewe (sp?) and house fried rice. The owner seemed nice, but I was quite disappointed with Pad See Ewe, which I frequently get at my other favorite Thai restaurants in Plymouth and Livonia. My husband liked his fried rice, but he's not that picky when it comes to fried rice. I might give them another chance and try their Pad Thai and a curry dish.
(2)Jay W.
For my first visit I got two staples at least for me chicken masaman and fried tofu. Fried tofu was good and a large portion. The masaman was a medium sized lunch portion. The chicken was overcooked a bit but still edible. All in all not a bad experience but not a great one either. Ill give them another chance.
