This is my most favorite sushi restaurant! E-V-E-R-Y-THING I have tried here is amazing. You have to get the Mountain Roll there's is nothing like it I swear to you. The Sunday Morning, Caterpillar, Green Dragon, and Hawaiian rolls are also delicious. The sushi rolls are not too expensive. The inside of Koji is very nicely decorated and clean. I love the picture of all types of sushi next to the entry way. The chefs and staff greet you when you walk in and thank you when you leave. Everyone who works here is very friendly and the wait staff is very quick with service and drink refills. I discovered this gem when I moved to Northville and now make the drive from Detroit (20 mins) for dinner here on occasion. Or order take out on my way home from work. Or find any reason to eat here :)

Getting better all of the time. Fast service, great location. Walkable to all of Northville. Teriyaki Salmon is excellent. House specialty rolls are very good.

KOJI is an old favorite of mine and my families! We used to frequent KOJI! One of those places that I am not sure why there was a break in going there, but glad we revisited yesterday! We had a very delicious meal. We started off with some tasty apps.. The agedashi tofu, the gyoza, the shrimp shumai and the spicy ramen. The spicy ramen had a kick, which I liked! We also had the tempura California roll. They were all prepared with care and presented well. We didn't get overly adventurous with our meals, as we both ordered the chicken Katsu. But, it was juicy, cooked just right and crispy. The meal was very good! The service was top-notch and the seats were comfortable and I liked the surroundings! I will be back again soon!! It is close to home and they do things right!

Haven't had any sushi here yet, but the donburi here is great! We came in on a snowy, cold winter day and some hot tea and miso soup was just what the doctor ordered. Going from there I had a tough time deciding between sushi, donburi or something tempura'd in a bento. Picking lunch is never a straight forward thing for me. Eventually my husband picked for me (ha) and I ended up with unagi don. Props to him for picking something I completely missed on the menu, and for him knowing my deep love of unagi/eel. The eel was broiled, served with skin and that ever glorious sticky sweet eel sauce. Served over warm rice and pickled veggies, this bowl made me very happy. My husband chose the beef teriyaki don for himself and enjoyed his meal. He did note that the sauce was overly sweet for his taste, but after stirring the meat around in the rice it got a little better. The ambiance of this little place is cute, by the way. The bar has a small shingled roof over it and soft music plays in the background.

Koji's sushi is the best I've had in Michigan. The quality & freshness are noticeably better than other places, there's a ton of special rolls to choose from, & the staff are really nice too. I get carry out all the time from Koji and I've never been disappointed. If you're looking for sushi in the area, just come straight here, you won't regret it.

First time at Koji and I have to say, I love it! I typically find that Japanese/Korean restaurants don't have a large variety of vegetarian options, but this place nailed it. The vegetarian udon was fantastic, with flavorful veggies and noodles. My mom got sushi combo 2, with an eel roll and tempura California roll. While I myself didn't sample it, she said the rolls were flavorful and delicious! I will definitely be back.

Very good sushi in Northville. We stopped in here early on a Wednesday afternoon. Place was empty at the time. Service was prompt and the two rolls we ordered were excellent. Would give it 5 stars, but pricing seemed a bit high, so 4 stars. Two rolls and two Sapora beers totaled over $40. Seems a bit steep. Definitely recommend the sushi, though, as it was very good.

Love this restaurant. Food is great, customer service is great. We especially love Grace. ( our favorite waitress) We eat here at least once a week.

We love it here! Everything always taste amazing and the service is always consistent good. It's reasonably priced with great lunch specials. I love meeting friends or my husband here it's a great atmosphere to sit and catch up with your favorite people. The spider and caterpillar rolls are my favorite.
(4)Ashley L.
The bibimbap is the best here. The staff is very nice and welcoming. The sushi is also always really good here.

Service was good ... Sushi rolls were EXCELLENT... the service and food was very prompt and amazing. Recommend the French kiss roll and the volcano roll !!
(5)Andrea B.
Let's be honest, when you dine asian you should not expect the same type of service you would in asia. I have experienced this first hand after spending a few months over in east asia. And being completely honest, and saying this as a brit, I don't enjoy being bothered when I'm eating my food. I like how they serve you only when needed. I come to Koji frequently and always enjoy what I eat. There is never too little or too much food!

I came here for a weekday lunch with my coworkers. We were the only Asians in the restaurant. I can't comment on the sushi but it seemed like the typical offerings you would see in an Americanized Japanese restaurant. I ordered a chicken teriyaki don and I give it a solid "meh" rating. There isn't too much you can mess up with this dish, but the sauce was a little too sweet and it was served on top of vegetables on top of rice, which just seemed strange. This place looks to be Korean owned based on the Korean items on the menu, like kalbi and hae du bop. If you're looking for huge special rolls like dragon rolls and volcano rolls, then you would probably like this place. If you're looking for some good Japanese food, be prepared for an average experience.

I am not a sushi connoisseur, but everything here is good and fresh. I also enjoyed the other menu items and so did my guests. I like the atmosphere of this restaurant, and am glad it is as good as it is because I loved the restaurant it replaced. They serve bento lunches, too.

I have been to Koji many times, and they never disappoint me! They have really good deals for lunch, from bento boxes to sushi combos, and the prices are very reasonable! Yesterday I came in during my lunch break and ordered a salmon teriyaki bento box for the first time. It came with a miso soup, ginger salad, assorted tempura, 4pc california roll, a bowl of rice, and of course, salmon teriyaki. My stomach was full and very happy.. and it cost me only 9 dollars!! You can't beat that! I know other sushi restaurants have their bento boxes around like 13-14 dollars or so. The service here is great also. Your tea cup and water glass are constantly refilled. I was actually in a rather crappy mood because of what happened at work, and the young waitress working there yesterday sensed something was up and helped cheer me up. She was super friendly and nice. I definitely recommend this place! Oh, and make sure to try their Northville Fire Roll! You will be amazed.

So I recently moved to DC and was disappointed to learn that there are relatively few good sushi options in the area despite the massive population and the proximity to the Atlantic (can you believe it?!). In fact, I spend many sushiless-nights (and some bad sushi-filled nights) lamenting DC's sushi options and feeling nostalgic about the Michigan sushi I had never truly appreciated until I left town. Upon hearing this tragic tail, one of my friends drags me out to Koji for sushi, insisting I won't be let down. Glancing over the sushi menu full of glossy photos, one roll catches our attention: the Northiville Fire Roll. Not only is the roll huge, it is stuffed with seafood goodies and cream cheese. Our eyes widen in anticipation as the waitress bops up to the table, pulls out a lighter, and promptly lights the roll on fire! At this point, we are like kids in a candy store. Purple and orange flames lap up the sides of the foil-wrapped sushi, cooking it ever so slightly and infusing it with a sizzling smokiness. Delicious and exciting (not only for us, but for everyone else in the restaurant who at this point is also watching the flaming sushi light up our little booth). We also order the sushi combo with 7 pieces of nigiri (the fish is extremely fresh and buttery and the cuts are ample--in other words, the nigiri is the bomb...or is that the Northiville roll?!) and a tuna roll (also tasty). All in all the combo is a great deal. Of course we can't stop there, so we throw in a caterpillar roll (also massive): fresh spicy tuna and veg inside covered in more than enough avocado on top (if you are an avocado lover you have to get this one!). On top of the great food, the staff are extremely friendly and all greet you as you walk in and thank you as you walk out. Plus Koji itself is actually kind of small, making it cozy and intimate. Oh and by the way, our total: $40. What a steal! I'm definitely going to hit up this place as much as possible in the next three weeks!
(4)Vance P.
The sushi was pretty good, the service was "meh". I was surprised there were no Asian customers, like there are at Sanpei, Fumi or Hanzo. Also, Koji doesn't come up when I do a search on here for Japanese. I even tried a search for Korean b/c the owners are Korean, but that didn't come up either. Weird. Anyway, I'd go back. Maybe try the flaming Northville roll next time.

Easily my favorite sushi place in the area, I frequent Koji on my lunch breaks and I am always sure to get great food and service. I rotate between bi bim bop and sushi and I'm never disappointed. My favorite rolls are the Northville Fire, Spider and Dynamite but I think they are all great.
(5)Steven J.
I had sushi from Koji for the second time last night. The first time was carry out and it was superb. The dining experience last night was relaxing and the sushi was once again top notch. They opened recently and just got their liquor license so we were able to enjoy a selection from their considerable list of wines. I plan to return to this restaurant frequently.
(5)Christina K.
We had dinner here Friday night and it was actually really busy! There were only two servers for about 15+ tables so we did have to wait about 10-15 minutes to get our drink and food order in. But everyone that worked there was very friendly. I think this place was ok. It wasn't anything spectacular. It is helpful that they have a picture menu of the different sushi rolls and what ingredients are inside of them but all the roll combos I've seen before but with a different name. Overall the sushi roll menu is lacking in creativity and the rolls are on the smaller side. The fish are fresh but I've had better!

This spot is located in cute downtown Northville. Upon entering everyone was friendly and welcoming. It's a pretty cute atmosphere and they have pretty good sushi. I liked the lobster roll and spicy california roll.
(4)Nikki M.
The atmosphere is good, i liked the music, very hip but... the portions were small especially for the price! $4.75 for 6pcs of a california roll, give me a break. I got another roll to help fill me up, i asked the waitress how many pieces it was and she said 6...it was 5. OHHHH and none of the rolls came with miso soup which a lot of places give you free soup and/or salad. Ive been looking for a good, fairly priced sushi place but this is not it. Too much money for way too small of portions!!
(2)Kristi C.
Great prices, speedy service, and a pleasant waitress are getting top points from me. I'm very pleased to have a great sushi place right in downtown Northville as I would prefer to spend my dollars on local businesses. My husband and I have been dining at Koji weekly since they opened. Booths are on the small side, but the seating is comfortable, the atmosphere is pleasant and inviting, and the sushi is super fresh. I just wish we would see this place with more customers! Hand rolls are wonderfully crunchy and fresh.

I heart Koji :) I have been waging a constant battle not to drive to East Lansing to get sushi every time I want some, because I am so addicted to SanSu. I have finally found a place that has great sushi I want to eat again in the Metro area and is conveniently close to work and a bestie's house...YAY! I was kinda surprised that there was not a huge selection of rolls, but nonetheless, what they did have to offer was awesome. I will def be back to this place...asap :)
(4)Lynus P.
Typically, my rating for Koji would be 4 or 5 stars, but my experience yesterday left me a little flat. Slow to greet, close to 20 minutes to deliver sushi. Quality was off on the rainbow roll, fish was not really the sushi grade and the pieces of fish were small and broken. The unagi was really fatty and the dragon roll was poorly put together and we left with no good ROI, as we typically leave feeling good with our $50-75 investment....not yesterday. I hope they were just off last night as I enjoy this sushi stop.
(3)Drew B.
You can't beat the lunchtime Bento boxes here. Eight bucks for a nice amount and variety of food. Much cheaper and tastier sushi than most places in the area. The dragon and caterpillar rolls are the best.
(4)Mark K.
Perhaps not destination sushi. But worth a visit if you are hanging in Northville and in the mood for sushi. I can't attest to Julie's complaints except perhaps the sushi rice's sauce needs a bit more of the sticky icky or actually whatever gives it the attributes to hold together because a couple pieces that I picked up required some decently fast chop stick skills. However, the consistancy of the rice seemed fine. Upon arrival, the place did encompass a scent of a small restaurant serving fish related cuisine, but I guess that's what it is. The raw fish was fresh and we ordered the rainbow roll to be sure. Not to mention, the prices are nice. Approximately three bucks less for each of my favorite speciality rolls, Dragon included. I'll save the most endearing characteristic for the end: Koji epitomizes service with a smile. Although, if you are looking for a bustling environment this place will not suit, but then again, neither will the quaint downtown Northville.

My husband and I started out with a tempura shrimp roll which was good but our main course was delicious. We got the Korean dish bim bim bop. A nice main course on a cold day. It was very flavorful. Their menu is a combination of Japanese and Korean. Friendly staff, clean restaurant, good food, and decent prices. We'll be back!

My 10th Japanese restaurant in Michigan to write a review. First time here on Monday and it was not bad. Sadly i can't remember they precut on fish or not anyways i ordered Sushi combo regular with Sea Urchin and Fantastic R. Sushi combo regular and Sea Urchin tasted fine just Tuna nigiri tasted frozen one used. But when you think about the price for that wasn't bad at all. It's hard to keep good quality with certain price so I can't really complain for nigiris. Sauce they used on Fantastic R was just tasted slightly spicy from Sriracha sauce and tasted sweet from Tomago and in my personal opinion it didn't had any unique flavor and stuff that was inside this roll wasn't match to each other. Service wise i was little disappointed. When you go up to customer you normally ask whether you want to start with any appetizer or start off. Also she handed water like 30sec after you handed me a water and expecting me to get ready to order... If i was regular here I would probably ready in that short amount of time. She went back to the seat and kept eating her lunch. I understand they have no lunch break in between working hours but you shouldn't push customer like that. Even if she didn't meant to make customer feel like that way she did wasn't friendly. Some people might think i'm just over reacting but I'm just writing my review of how i felt which not being welcomed in that time. I don't know how others felt when they came in here but for me decor inside the restaurant was little far from Japanese style. Nigiri is reasonable for that price but Roll is pricey for that quality.

This place is so good and I come at least once a month to replenish my sushi cravings. Its never usually that busy so you know you'll most likely be seated when you arrive. If you like something in rich tasting, please go for the Northville fire roll or like me if you like more of a fresh taste, rainbow or michigan will surely do the trick.

The Wife and I have sampled many Sushi places in the Metro Detroit area and let me tell you how fortunate we are to have this GEM so close to home! Let me start by saying the product, ALWAYS fresh, succulent and prepared with soul. We frequent there quite often and have been since it first opened. The waitstaff and Chef always greets us with big smiles and a genuine courtesy that can be hard to find in other places. The Salsa Roll is our absolute favorite (be warned it can be uber spicy;-) Sashimi Yellow Tail is my favorite ending note even their specialty rolls have filled my belly with joy and fullness to the brim. All for a reasonable price given the quality of the product. Oh, and the rice is always spot on. All in all, some dang good digs.

Meh. This place has some good reviews but in all honesty it was OK at best. Not to sound like a sushi snob but having lived on both coasts of this beautiful country. I have had the pleasure of eating some amazing sushi. Yes there is more to it than the fish, like the rice, the ingredients and etc. But I think i've eaten enough sushi to know what's good and what sucks. Does this place suck? No, not at all. However it is not the best. I came here with my best friend when we realized we had nothing to eat in our fridge. We were both in the mood for sushi and decided to give this place a try. It was steady but there were a few empty tables. We got seated and got our drinks. As we were looking at the menu we began making our choices. We ordered a few rolls and an order of sashimi. The wait for our food wasn't long but what made it longer is the fact that they put all of our sushi on one plate. Never in my life have I been to a sushi place where they put ALL of your sushi order on one plate. This was very lame. I could have had about two or three rolls while we were waiting for the other rolls to be made. For instance, we could have had the easy stuff like sashimi and the tuna rolls on our table within minutes. While we were waiting for the more labor intensive rolls, like the rainbow and other specialty rolls. Every other sushi place I've been that's how they do it. They bring you the stuff that's ready as it's ready. Never have they waited to put it all on one plate. To me that's lame. While one roll is getting made your other rolls are just sitting there losing their freshness. Hopefully they don't do this all the time or read this shit and change it. Seriously. Now for the worst part. There are two things here that really need to change. One are the chopsticks. I'm no karate kid but I know how to use chopsticks. The chopsticks here are to bulky. They are rounded instead of the cheap square ones and that makes them a little harder to grip. They're almost like drumsticks. The second part is the rolls themselves. Every roll I picked up fell a part or was on the verge of falling a part. I thought maybe I didn't know my own strength but my friend also had the same problem. What good is a sushi roll if the shit falls a part? They need to roll the sushi tighter. From the simple tuna roll to the specialty roll, every piece I grabbed was loose and was falling a part. The ones that didn't fall a part were the ones I rushed into my mouth. This is a serious problem. It's the equivalent to a burrito bursting in half. I hope the nice old lady that was there reads this and tightens up her sushi staff. Rolls that fall a part on the plate are not good for business. I might return but for now I'd rather try a new place.

After a much anticipation, I finally tried Koji tonight. Overall, I was very impressed. Now that I know I have a very acceptable sushi joint within walking distance of my house, I can definitely increase my sushi intake... this makes me happy. The service was great (but there were only 2 tables with customers sitting at them), the food was fresh and very satisfying, the prices were moderate, and I loved the picture menu that explained the rolls. The one thing that threw me off was that the overall sushi menu wasn't as extensive as other places that I have been. Koji gets a thumbs up from me and will definitely make my wallet happily a little lighter!
(4)Liz W.
I like this place. Its very friendly and the sushi is very tasty. They have good deals at lunch which is nice. I stopped in with my usual sushi partner in crime, my mother. I had the chirashi as that is a big thing of mine. Something about a little container filled with a variety of different sashimi on sushi rice makes me happy, I thought 12 bucks was reasonable for what I got. My mom went with a bento box with four pieces of nigiri (the usual suspects), a california roll, assorted tempura and a salad, it was ten bucks. They had a nice little selection of luncheon things for around the 8-11 dollar mark. We also had a tasty phoenix roll which was tempura shrimp roll topped with spicy tuna and sauce. I really wanted to get the black dragon roll with the eel on top instead by my mom was paying so I let her get what I know she likes, besides she's my mom. I thought the miso soup was nice here. The tea was hot and kept filled and fresh as were our water glasses. Service was pleasant, they seemed eager to please. They were not super busy but we were at the tail end of the lunch period. I would be more than willing to give it another whirl. It's very convenient from my parent's place.
(3)Amy G.
I would love to be able to write two reviews for this place. I would give Koji 5 stars for take-out and 4 stars for dine-in. Take out is fast, efficient and delicious. Eating at the restaurant is really hit-or-miss. Most of the time the service is slow and lacking in general effort. It often feels as if the dine in customers are a pain in the rear to the wait staff. Koji offers beer and wine. The wine is terribly overpriced. Their 3 red wine selections start at $7.25 a glass and go up from there. The wine is good in quality, but not $25 a bottle good. The sushi is obviously the main focus, and they definitely deliver in that category. We tried the Koji Crunch roll on our most recent visit and it was delish! If you love fresh sushi- definitely give Koji a try- but consider taking it to go.
(4)Megan C.
The sushi here is pretty decent. I wouldn't go out of my way to go here (I prefer Shiro), but if I'm around downtown, it hits the spot. Also, Koji is open all day as opposed to many sushi places that are closed for a few hours between lunch and dinner. So, if I'm craving sushi at an odd hour, Koji is my go-to place.
