Guernsey Farms Dairy Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

I love ice cream - like, creepy love..and most would say my ice cream palate is well-developed. Guernsey, you're not all that. First, the consistency is all wrong with the hardness and gritty feeling (blech!). Perhaps their goal was to create a wrestling match in my mouth; if that's the case, they win. Next is the flavor, which leaves so much to be desired. I tasted three different ice creams before throwing in the towel and picking a totally different flavor so I wouldn't hold up the line - landing on egg nog. A descriptive word for this particular scoop of frozen mess is simply "ugh". Maybe they're trying too hard, maybe they have missed the whole point of keeping things simple and letting the natural flavors shine...maybe I'm trying too hard to give them the benefit of the doubt. Oh, and their service is horrible. Dropping $30 on ice cream and being told we cannot eat it at a table (for real?) is bizarre. We ate our "ice cream" AKA frozen nastiness on some uncomfortable chairs near the entrance, literally feet within the table we had requested to eat at which had maintained its vacancy until we left. Custard Time is still my Northville gem!

Guernsey's is a Novi/Northville institution. This is a great place to come for an awesome broasted chicken meal or just a delicious scoop of ice cream. The broasted chicken is the best I've ever had. Big, juicy pieces with crispy skin. Go with the broasted potatoes too -- lots of flavor. If it's your first time trying their ice cream definitely go for the butter pecan. I also recommend ordering a glass of their chocolate milk to go with your meal.

I feel like a traitor because I have known this place for 40 years. I love how Kids eat their ice cream on the big rock. The little store/grocery is great. So is the ice cream, but I don't think their chicken is good at all, it tastes, mushy and bla but it just might be me. They are always busy and they have been around forever.

If you want delicious ice cream and a TON of flavors to choose from, this is the place to be. The portions are very generous. I have had the majority of flavors at the place, and I have never been disappointed. In the summer, there's always a line out the door, but the wait it worth it. Take a friend, a date, or your family to Guernsey's for a great dessert, and a unique local experience. Be sure to sit on the rocks under the giant tree and enjoy your treat on a beautiful summer day. This place truly is a gem of the Novi/Northville area. There is also a restaurant, which has decent food. Nothing out of the ordinary. People come for the ice cream, not for the food. You can also get Guernsey ice cream in half-gallon boxes at a lot of local stores.

Warning - huge serving size for ice cream! I get single-scoop in a cup, which is like a small soup bowl over-filled with ice cream to the top and hangs over. Enough flavours to thoroughly confuse you, but the staff are friendly and happy to recommend or let you taste. Probably wouldn't recommend this place to someone who wants "light" fruity type frozen treats, but for flavourful ice cream YES go there. No place to sit inside the ice cream shop. On a nice-weather day, the big rocks under the big tree outside of the restaurant is apparently the gathering place; people hang out there to eat ice cream and chat. Very cool.

Ice cream and broasted chicken. Those are the reasons you come to Guernsey Dairy. The ice cream part is cash only (or maybe they just don't take Amex), so hit the ATM before coming in. Then purchase your scoop, or two or three, from the cashier and proceed to the ice cream line. Ask for as many samples as you think you can get away with before settling on the birthday cake or mint chocolate chip ice cream. Sure, you can order other, inferior flavors, but I wouldn't recommend it. Once you have your cup or cone, go outside, sit on a rock, and enjoy your treat. If you actually came to Guernsey to eat dinner, then ignore the entire menu except for the broasted chicken, which is amazing. Crispy skin, juicy insides, everything chicken should be. Also, you can pick up Guernsey Milk cartons here cheaper than at local grocery stores, so that is another plus. Please note that my 5 star review is based on the birthday cake ice cream and broasted chicken, order differently and your experience may vary.

Not an easy place to review. There's a restaurant included on this, and it feels like an afterthought. The food was merely "meh". I mean, nothing special. A LOT of food on the plate for a breakfast, but still... meh. plain old frozen susages, eggs that tasted powered. BUT... their ice cream is stunning. I could roll in a batch of Pistachio on a warm summer day and be completely content. Delicious stuff. Their Butter Pecan is the standard.

We were looking for something to do while hanging out in Northville and this place looked like something to do. Not quite what I expected as it is just a ice cream shop and restaurant. Anyway, I had a chocolate chip ice cream sandwich that was to die for!! If I lived anywhere close to here I would be having at least one a day! Currently looking into dry ice shipping! LOL

I've been coming here since I was 3 years old. Every time I step in this joint it's like a time warp. All of a sudden I feel like I'm in my KEDS light up shoes, rainbow suspenders, and neon green twirly skirt. There's something about getting a big scoop of your favorite ice cream and sitting on the rocks outside. Very comforting... and delicious. I'd like to consider myself an ice cream aficionado. Their ice cream is seriously top notch filled with fresh ingredients straight from the family farm. No artificial crap here. No marble slab $7 creations for 3oz of ice cream (Give me a fucking break Coldstone). And no singing when you give them a tip. Thank God for that. Some of my favs are: Moose Tracks, Pumpkin, Grandpa's Blueberry Way, Lemon Sorbet, Novi Mint Chocolate Chip... I could go on Bubba Gump style, but I'll spare you dear YELPer. You're welcome. Their restaurant also dishes up some of the best fried/ broasted (whatever the hell you want to call it) chicken I've ever had. If you live in the area, Guernseys is definitely a place you'll want to check out. I heart you Guernseys.

After trying out Custard Time, I wanted to hit up another ice cream shop in Northville. This place is a restaurant and an ice cream parlor. You pay before you order. The girl working behind the counter was very nice. She let me sample 5 different flavors and gave me recommendations based on my preferences (I like fruity and not too sweet). Although I really despise chocolate chips in my ice cream, I ended up choosing Grandapa's Way Blueberry Pomegranate Ice cream with chocolate chips. The fruity tartness tasted amazing with its milky creaminess. Although I would have preferred to have a chocolate ribbon running through it, the chocolate chips added the right amount of bitterness to bring the entire scoop together. Yum yum yum. I would save a trip to Guernsey's for a night when you have plenty of room left for dessert. The single scoop is gigantic. PS. Keep an eye out for coupons. I had one from ClipperMagazine with a BOGO free waffle cone. Not a bad deal at all.

Love the serving size and absolutely love the variety of flavors. It's a bit overwhelming, especially if you've never been there before, but this is a definite place I gotta go back to!

In all my years I have never eaten the actual food type food here but I have certainly had more than my fair share of the ice cream and dairy products. I love their eggnog. If my mom is not making homemade I will grab some of this. Throw some Vernors in (about 1/3 of the glass and yum-my!). You can also lace it up with alcohol of choice but you did not hear that from me. Their milk and other products are very good too but for me it all comes down to the ice cream. My father loves their butter pecan above all others. My husband is a chocolate moose tracks, strawberry cheesecake or chocolate peanut butter guy. My mom loves the choco malt chip and pistachio. I am a dulce de leche or caramel macchiato girl or I go old school for my nostalgic cherry vanilla, which reminds me of my grandfather as it was his very fave. Crowded at peak hours in season, it is very family friendly and always a hit with people of all ages. The ice cream is creamy and tasty with plenty of flavors to enjoy.

Delicious!! The broasted chicken is so, so, so very good. My 1.5 year old scarfed it down. And the ice cream. It's heavenly. I've never had chocolate milk so good-- I seriously think they just melt the chocolate ice cream & put it in a carton. Also, kids eat free with purchase of an adult entree on Mondays & Tuesdays from 5pm-9m. Heck yeah!!

The boyfriend took me here over the summer and they had my fav ice cream flavor, blue moon. :-) Yummy ice cream, a cute store that we didn't really look through, and the rocks in the grass outside make great seats to people and car watch. And lucky for me, the boyfriend is moving back to that area from Cincinnati, so whenever I visit I get yummy ice cream.

I swear I used to have my own personal stash of Guernsey's ice cream in my freezer. That is, until my roommates decided that the freezer had uses outside of ice cream storage. But really. This place is good. Try it.

  • John W.

This place has a lot of character and is certainly a notch above your typical ice cream shop around town. We did try a sample of the Blue Moon but instead went with a chocolate fudge brownie and pumpkin spiced ice cream for our first visit. One unusual thing about the store is you pay for you ice cream inside at the front register (right when you walk in the door) and then you take your receipt over to the ice cream counter and choose what flavor of ice cream you want. The single scoop is a BIG single scoop, I wouldn't get more than that! I went here thinking ice cream only but I should have read Nathan's review a little more closely. I was unaware they also had a sit down diner type of shop connected to the ice cream store. I'll have to head over here again and try that chicken dinner Nathan mentioned. This place also has a small shopping area that has some of their own farm-fresh milks, ice creams, etc to take home along with other treats. You can find things like small crafts, unique cards, special spreads, dips and other harder to find type of items. Many are Michigan produced products so that was nice to see. That big oak tree out front along with those giant rocks are a great place to hang out and have a heck of a tasty ice cream! Two thumbs up here for the Guernsey Farm Dairy!

I just went to Guernsey for ice cream for the first time in 10+ years. It was a staple of my childhood - it was a big deal when you were big/strong enough to climb on the giant rock outside to sit and eat your ice cream. The interior hasn't changed - they're still using the same cash registers from the 70s, it seems. Nostalgia aside, the ice cream is as delicious as ever. Period.

Stopped in for a vanilla malted after the Red Pepper Deli to make sure I had enough fat in my diet. I've been meaning to try it. It was very good. It wasn't jaw dropping, but good and made with their own local ingredients so I'm rounding up from 3.5 stars.

can't be sure if you will get a good day or bad for the restaurant food. This week it was good; has been iffy in the past. Menu is nothing spectacular, sandwiches, usually a dinner special, and a breakfast i've never tried. Service is always good give the menu a look before heading here. and the ice cream will never disappointment. most items on the menu is $6-7 average. add fries and coleslaw it will be almost $3 more. maybe a little steep for what you get...

Typically we love the Guernsey ice cream run..... However, tonight they fell short as we paid for 3 x single scoops Nd when we went to order the pistachio, they were out, followed by by the almond joy, out and finally the praline and caramel, also out. I am typically pretty easy going, but c'mon, really, 3 best sellers, all out.....really. Enjoyed the time with my family despite having to settle for some other flavor tonight.

Going to Guernsey for ice cream has been a family tradition every since I can remember. My grandmother likes to tell me stories about how when I was 3 I knew the directions to get there from my house in Livonia (a girl's gotta know where the best ice cream is from a very young age!), I have fond memories of sitting atop their famous boulders licking blue moon or superman ice creams. Shoot, I remember when this place was essentially a truck stop- that was before they added the restaurant and grocery area. The ice cream at Guernsey is what has drawn me (and everyone else) to it for all of these years. Rich and creamy, with unique flavors like Creme de Novi (creme de menthe), Lemon Custard, and of course, the best blue moon and superman ice creams on the planet. While I whole-heartedly give the joint a 5 for the ice cream and nostalgia factor, the restaurant leaves a lot to be desired and I would only give it three *** stars. It's kinda out dated, and the food is like what you may be served at a hospital cafeteria. The broasted chicken, however. is the only exception to this. But who wants to go to a restaurant and only eat chicken? The sides are sub-par, and that's being generous, Mashed potatoes are most definitely instant, green beans over cooked. Chicken is great for carryout, and then you can supply your own sides! You have to try Guernsey's ice cream, just pass on the restaurant.

I've never really had cravings for ice cream until my girlfriend introduced me to guernsey ice cream! Now all i can think about is an over size cup full of thunder bay cherry or cookies and cream when my sweet tooth kicks in! I just like how the texture of the ice creams are so soft and creamy. They offered plenty of flavours so don't hesitate to ask for a sample. You pay at the counter and turn in the recipe for your ice cream. Don't pay for a kid's size as it is only 25 cents cheaper then the single scoop and its a way smaller. Only complaint i have is there isn't any proper seating inside. When ever i bring my little cousins here they end up running around until i threatens them this will be their last trip here unless they behave! Ice cream = powerful stuff to make little kids do stuff. Hahaha...

This place is great for ice cream, but everything else on the menu is meh. Guernsey's is family-owned, and not necessarily in a good way. Sometimes the service (from family members) is downright atrocious.

  • Bob M.

I'm sorry. Maybe it's just me...but in most cases (the Peppermint and Peanut Butter Iditarod ice creams being exceptions...) I find Guernsey's products to be bland and lacking. Blue Moon is my favorite Ice Cream. And Guernsey's "Blue Moon" is inexcusably bland. I swear they just added food coloring to Vanilla. The sandwiches I've had here kinda sucked too. All in all: over-priced, over-hyped, and underwhelming. If you want a good creamery, let me recommend Zingerman's Creamery in nearby Ann Arbor. For ice cream, better choices abound.

This past Saturday evening, ate some great pizza and antipasto salad at Buddy's, and decided the group of us would head on over to Guernsey for some great after dinner treats. And for me, it gets no better than this place! Like Liz, in all the years I have never eaten real food here, but I have heard its great! The ice cream is as fresh as it gets...they make all their own and go through a lot of it, so it is on constant rotation. My group had everything from the sherbet to the NY cheesecake, and I had the malted chocolate chip. It was creamy, cold, sweet and great tasting. I got it in a cup with a cone then which worked a little better in the extreme heat, but a straight up sugar cone would have been fine. I had the single scoop which is like a double anywhere else, which is to say they do not skimp on serving sizes. Its a great little place to hang out with friends and family and lounge on the boulders while enjoying the ambiance of this neat place. Once your done you can browse the little shop/market if you are so inclined, for me I only do it when I am dragged in there, but some of the crafts and knickknacks are pretty cool. Have been a bunch of times before, will certainly come back a bunch more, and heck...one day I may just have the chicken in the restaurant, they say its pretty good!

Ok, so - I moved into the sub across from this restaurant/ice cream place. My coworker raved about going there as a kid. I was skeptical at first, thought that only old people frequented the place and I envisioned the stench of old lady perfume and bus loads of "elderly care" facilities packing into the place. Boy was I wrong.....I started going because my 6 year old daughter begged me for ice cream one day. The cool thing is that their motto is to the tune of "try as many flavors as you like". The staff never seems to be irritated no matter how many flavors a 6 year old wants to try before she can decide on her favorite. :)) Next, I tampered with take out (as I was being lazy) ordering the broasted chicken, salad, coleslaw and mashed potatoes. YUM! That chicken was so juicy it melted in my mouth. Next, I got crazy and decided to step out of my comfort zone and sit down for a breakfast meal. I have to tell you that is the food you want to get there! Either broasted chicken dinner take out or breakfast. You cannot go wrong. Also, kids eat free Monday and Tuesday's. HOW COOL IS THAT!!! Just sayin.......... Go get you some!

WARNING: If you're not from the Midwest, your eyes may pop out of your head upon your first encounter with a Guernsey ice cream cone. This is not Tasti D Lite and it's not some prissy L.A., I'm watching my figure, ice cream cone. It's the real deal. Having lived in various cities and traveled quite a bit, I must conclude that Guernsey is summer lovin' at its finest. Rich, buttery and full of flavor, Guernsey ice cream is simply delicious. Being a Michigan girl at heart, some favorite flavors include Mackinac Island Fudge, Moose Tracks, Peaches and Cream, and Blue Moon. Even the sugar free varieties hold their own. Needless to say, Guernsey is still a favorite haunt when I find myself home in the summertime. Even though they're not exactly around the corner from my parents' place, they're definitely worth the drive to Northville.

  • Brenda M.

I have to piggy-back on Liz W's wonderful review. I have been meaning to write this, but forgot until I saw hers. Ice cream is wonderful...if it's crowded it might take a second to figure out how to order. You stand in line to pay first, then go over and stand in line and get your ice cream from the kids scooping out of the cooler. After you get your cone, walk over to the little store (in the same building). They have Sanders cakes (yum, caramel tea cake!) and all kinds of Michigan made products, along with their own dairy stuff. If you grab a Sanders cake and a 1/2 gallon of Guernsey chocolate milk to go with it, you'll probably end up in a coma....but what a deliciously happy coma it will be.

Chicken and Ice Cream in the same fucking place... fuck yeah. A bucket of chicken here by far exceeds the quality of any chicken place I've ever been. It's broasted, not sure what that means exactly but it's fucking good. It's crispy yet moist and flavorful. But enough about the chicken the best reason to come here quite possibly could be the ice cream. The best ice cream I have ever had. Much better than any marble slab, dairy queen or any other place that has ice cream. It's delicious and there are a ton of flavors. I'm a new fan to Guernsey's and look forward to coming here for floats, huge one scoop cones and seriously good chicken.

I only buy my milk from the Guernsey Dairy, and I hear the ice cream is the best (though since my son is allergic to nuts, we can't enjoy it). The restaurant, however, is marginal at best. The water tastes bad and the menu is limited, particularly for vegetarians. The food is okay, but not worth the price. My suggestion is visit Guernsey and enjoy a triple scoop (after you have enjoyed dinner somewhere else).

I have always loved Guernsey, but this place just made my day (or even week maybe). We went for ice cream on my daughter's birthday with me 2 weeks in to a 19 week "biggest loser" weight-loss bet. I was going to skip it, since I am literally counting calories, but I saw they had the "No Sugar Added" varieties in the grocery freezer case over in the store side of the building. 110 calories per 1/2 cup! No Sugar Added Black Cherry won out, and 15 minutes later I headed home with a belly full of cold dairy goodness and still in 500+ calorie deficit for the day. Life is good. Plus, you gotta love the big rock out in the grass out by the road.

This review is for the actual dairy products, as opposed the restaurant (which I definitely want to visit, now that I've read all these great reviews!). I'm a big fan of Guernsey milk, cream, buttermilk and sour cream. Though admittedly not as luscious as Calder Dairy products, Guernsey also guarantees that their cow's milk is hormone-free and it's more affordable. I use their sour cream to make homemade onion dip and always get rave reviews! For me, keeping my dairy hormone-free is a must and I can fit Guernsey in my budget. And it tastes way better, too!

I consider myself a professional when it comes to ice cream because I love it. Guernsey is the perfect place for an ice cream lover. They have a ton of choices and the service is super friendly. I haven't actually tried anything else other than the ice cream and it does not disappoint. You might end up overwhelmed with choices but if you have a favorite, don't be afraid to try something new!

What can I say? Giant Portions of outstanding Ice Cream. Rich, creamy and fresh. Highly recommended. The ordering process can get a bit chaotic, but otherwise its wonderful.

I haven't posted a review for Guernsey's ever and I am not sure why. I LOVE THEIR ICE CREAM!!! Tin Roof is a favorite but many times not in stock. Chocolate ice cream is awesome! My husband has had Grandpa's Blueberry and the vanilla and raves. He is also a fan of their chocolate milkshakes.

  • Tonya O.

Delicious and creamy ice cream. They have a very wide and unique selection of flavors. I wish I lived closer, because I'd love to try other flavors. If you're ever in the area, then give it a try. It's got a very hometown feel to the place. As mentioned already, the ordering and paying process is a little complicated at first, because you pay THEN order, but if you see the cashier first, then it's all good. The flavor I tried was cake batter, which has sprinkles already mixed in. I ordered a single scoop, and there was plenty for one person. I can't even imagine what a double scoop would look like!

This place is packed on a Saturday night! I came here with friends after dinner tonight and the shop was full of people. The restaurant is divided into basically three sections. There is a store section for sauces, milk, etc. The center section is a quick-moving counter ice cream shop. The third section is a sit down parlor. People also congregate on benches outside. Prices are pretty reasonable. I give it 4 stars because it can become congested around the check out line.

Awesome broasted chicken! Best in area. Had it at graduation party and we were hooked. Guernsey has a catering business...this is the best kept secret in the area.

I always come here for ice cream. Sitting on those smooth rocks outside with a prefect ice cream cone is like being a happy tailess ape in Gibralta. This weekend, I was so tempted by the smell of chicken that we went inside for an order of broasted chicken wings. Yummy! I wish I had discovered those fried chicken earlier.

I was out in Detroit for this year's final four and after a few days of eating at chain restaurants (not my choice), I was thrilled to get the chance to try this place after hearing about it from a friend of mine. It doesn't look like much from the outside but once inside, the service is friendly and the food is great. Make sure to try the broasted chicken (healthy fried-like chicken) and the ice cream. Both are excellent.

OMG!!! The ultimate best place to eat! They have the worlds best Chocolate Milk...you have to try!! And I believe the Best Broasted Chicken in the United States! You can either order white or dark meat or mixed em up. The chicken meal always comes with a scoop of their famous Dairy made Ice Cream. There is an ice cream parlor outside the restaurant if you want to try other varieties. Also a small store where you can buy all their products. I've never had anything there I didn't like.

Nice ice cream, although the fudge sauce and service both leave a lot to be desired. The ice creams are creamy and rich, however, don't order a sundae with fudge sauce, it doesn't add much to your dessert. The waiters at the parlor are rude - we happened to walk in with another group of people and she remarked rather disgruntled "here come all the people, all together" loudly to her co-worker.

Came here for a sit-down dinner and had a suprisingly good experience. Ordered: Chili cheese fries, Hearty chicken dinner + 2 sides + small ice cream, Cuban sandwich, additional small ice cream Price: $29.62 w/o tip Ambiance: Decor of a IHOP from the 80's packed with old white people aged 60+. Not the most glamorous place I will admit but it was clean and quiet. The service was friendly and our cups never ran out despite the place being near capacity. Food: We started with chili cheese fries which I highly recommend. They weren't unique in any way but had a classic flavor that satisfies your craving, it was well-executed with a hearty chili served over lightly crisped fries. We of course tried the broasted chicken which was pretty darn good, even my wife who is a connoisseur of fried chicken absolutely loved it. The skin was crispy, the meat tender, and even the breast was extremely moist and steaming. It may have been a touch on the salty side but I usually make allowances for fried chicken. The broasted potato side was plain, it would've been infinitely better with some seasoning salts baked in, the corn side was pretty mediocre as well. We did also get a Cuban panini to share which was pretty alright, it was certainly hefty and packed with tasty ham and pork but the bread was some sliced hearty white bread and not a baguette like traditional. This really my fault for ordering a Cuban at a soul food restaurant but it WAS surprising decent. We got chocolate fudge brownie and the Irish mint ice creams as dessert and agreed both were quite delicious with that wonderful slightly chewy texture that quickly melts into creamy goodness in your mouth. The chocolate fudge brownie really reminded us of the Talenti gelato version you can get in grocery stores and the Irish mint was enjoyable because it wasn't that sweet and powerfully minty, letting you kick back and enjoy it's subtleties a little more. The weakest parts of this place would definitely be the side dishes but overall this place was a huge win and we will definitely be coming back for more chicken and yummy ice cream!

A lot of locals come here for their amazingly delicious ice cream. Oh yeah, it's probably the best ice cream I've had. So creamy and tastelicious. But the restaurant should not be overlooked. I've dined here a couple times now and have been impressed with each visit. I've had the broasted pork chops and the Caesar salad before. The pork chops were so juicy and perfectly cooked. I'm not much of a pork fan but I'm in love with these chops! The Caesar salad had the perfect amount of dressing and the greens were fresh! Next visit I must try broasted perch. Highly recommend!!

I had heard how good their ice cream was, we came here to check it out. They have a nice little shop that sells all kinds of stuff which is neat. They also have a small restaurant but we didn't try it this time. The ice cream they sell is separate from the restaurant. I really wanted to indulge and I ordered their waffle which comes with three scoops of ice cream. They have a HUGE selection of flavors which is even more impressive in the middle of the winter. The scoops are huge, I was really full after eating it!

Where can you find a good local meal AND dessert? Right here. Mostly known for their ice-cream shop, there are some factoids that are worth mentioning: * Gurnseys has been a local family business in Michigan for 75 YEARS! That's right - 75 YEARS, which means they've endured the test of time. For sure they'll be around for another 25 (I hope we get invited to their 100th birthday bash!). * No hormones are used in their dairy products. Gurnseys makes ice-cream, milk, sour cream and dips that are purely that (without the extra chemicals). You can find their products throughout various grocery stores. * The staff are friendly, helpful and patient. Yes, some are young but I've been there a dozen times and never experienced anything less than great customer service. So now that you know what makes Gurnseys such a high-five business in our mitten state, you'll also want to know that their variety of ice-cream flavors is mountain high, as is their serving size. The prices are right and the quality is superb. Besides ice-cream, they also have a restaurant all in the same setting. They are known for their broasted chicken which is soo, sooo, delicious (and I don't even like chicken!). It's marinated over night which leaves the inside juicy and moist while having the outside crispy after undergoing pressurized frying. They also serve broasted potatoes but I didn't have the same satisfaction with those. For non-meat eaters, they have some pasta and veg dishes. All in all, Gurnseys is here to stay and I couldn't be happier about that.

Most people stop by solely for the ice cream but don't sleep on their food. It's good, old-fashioned comfort food that actually tastes home-cooked unlike a Bennigan's where they probably have more scissors to cut open the bags of food than actual pans to cook it in. I've had the broasted chicken both times I've been there and it was hot, juicy, crispy (without being overly breaded), and a bargain price if you get the dinner that comes with sides and ice cream! Their renowned ice cream is spectacular as always. Some of my personal favorites include the blueberry something (can't remember the actual name), moose tracks, mackinac fudge, the list truly goes on. As for the service, both times it was more than adequate. I was never left wondering where the server went or neglected for long periods of time. So turn that ice cream trip into a full blown dinner and enjoy what Guernsey's has to offer!

The food, service and ice cream is all amazing. I am quite a restaurant aficionado and while the appearance is very dated, I have yet to see a cleaner restaurant in all my life. The bus boy meticulously cleaned every spot on every table and booth. I have never been in a restaurant that did not have crumbs in the booth's crumb catcher. I was quite impressed. Homemade ranch is awesome. Most amazing chocolate milk. And ice cream just tops it all off. Very kid friendly too.

For the chicken I'd give them 4 stars but service and Ice cream 1star I have to ask the young server everything hung and she probably not used to have anyone tell her thank you !

As other reviews have alluded, the service here is often sub par. The problem is that they hire young kids, pay them minimum wage, and don't seem to train them extremely well. This leads to inconsistency in the size of ice cream cones that are given. Sometimes a single scoop is huge and other times it is the same size as a kiddie cone. The next major problem is that their quality has gone down. They used to have the best ice cream, chocolate milk, and milk shakes, but over the past few years they have taken a serious step backwards. Their milk shakes, which used to be my favorite in the area can't even compete with a Burger King or McDonald's shake. They used to be so thick that you had to eat it with a spoon, but those days are far behind them. Finally, this place has lost control of their prices. They charge nearly $4 for a single scoop of ice cream. This is even more ridiculous when you get a scooper who only gives you a really small portion. With all that said, this place used to be my favorite ice cream spot in the area. Now, I would rather go to Dairy Queen, Menchi's, Yogurt Palooza, or sadly, even McDonalds. So if you are looking to go to the famous Ice Cream shop, I am saddened to say that its best days are behind.

Hands down the best ice cream you'll ever have. So many amazing flavors to choose from. Sea salt turtle swirl is my favorite or key line pie

I was in from out town and stopped in to try their broasted fish that's supposedly available only on Friday. Well there wasn't any available on this Friday. The waitress was nice but leaving quite disappointed.

This is the perfect local, family owned diner and parlor. They have a walk up ice cream parlor or if you prefer you can sit in their dining room. I've had both dinner and dessert there. Never had a bad meal, they always have good food and specials. The food is home made and you can tell! The ice cream is the best part. Wide selection of flavors. My favorite is the strawberry dream parfait. I've always had great service even if most of the servers are high schoolers. Highly recommended! Shop local!

Holy Chicken!!!! For a dairy farm, they know how to cook chicken good. Add ranch with it too, you could really just drink that ranch. Make sure you get a chocolate milk with your meal, it goes down smooth with it. Also, with all chicken dinners you get a free scoop of ice cream, that makes the meal so much better.

This place is charming and homey with lots of comfort foods. From fried chicken to Mac N Cheese to country fried steak, the food is tasty and sticks to the bones. The highlight of this place is the Broasted chicken. It's just as good as that old Detroit favorite, Chicken Shack; they're extremely delicious! And of course, there the ice cream! Guernsey Farms ice cream is among the smoothest and richest I've ever tasted. Every entree ends with a choice of single scoop of ice cream. It's sweet conclusion to a great meal. The only slight negative is the time to get your food is a bit slow. 20-30 mins, usually. But the food always comes piping hot. You know you had your dishes freshly cooked. That's the price of high quality yet affordable fare.

We've enjoyed Guernsey's ice cream for years but hadn't taken the time to sit down and enjoy the restaurant. We had the broasted pork chops and the broasted chicken dinners. Both are delicious. Wife says chicken is so good she is never cooking her own again. It's that good!

Local, fresh, great choices and amazing flavor. But sub par service and high prices. I have been going here since I was a kid I must say the blue moon flavor is my favorite.

They have a huge variety of flavors and everything I've tried has been amazing. The employees are happy to offer samples if you're having a hard time deciding what you want (and you will almost definitely find yourself struggling to choose just one).

Only been here once, but I've had it bookmarked for awhile now. Can't remember why exactly, but I think it had to do with all the great reviews this place has received. Went here about a week ago with my fiance & in-laws to have a little Mother's Day treat after dinner. I've never been here, but they told me the place is always packed. The parking lot was full, but we managed to find a spot - which they told me signifies it's not too busy then. There was quite a line at the counter, but there were 2 cashiers working. My MIL and me went to check out what kind of ice cream we wanted, while my fiance paid. The line was long, but the wait wasn't bad at all. I think we were probably in and out of there in well under 10 minutes. The ice cream was delicious! I don't know what the price was, but a 1 scoop waffle cone was HUGE! It looked more like a 2 scoop. I wasn't gonna complain about it! There was a pretty big selection in flavors. Key Lime Pie caught my eye, only cause I thought my fiance was going to get it. He stuck with his usual Chocolate. Maybe I'll break out of my "Mint Chocolate Chip" norm and get something different on our next visit. Can't comment on the food or anything else though - we only went for the ice cream. I'd be open to eating there though as well.

The ice cream is perfect! So many flavors to choose from, and the flavors I've tried thus far have all been very good. Coming here in the summer time is unfortunately, a nightmare. There is no organization to the system they have set up. You pay for your ice cream, then get in line to order it. There's usually about 10 teenage employees scooping ice cream. If they spent more time paying attention to customers, than joking around with each other, there probably wouldn't be any line confusion. There never appears to be a manager supervising these kids. I was once in a line with about 9 people behind me. When it was my turn to order, an employee called me away from the line to order. The employee failed to complete their previous customer's order, so when said customer came back to them to complete, the employee forgot she was helping me. She completed that customer's order and called another customer out of line, forgetting that I was standing there. I had to get back into the line, seemingly cutting in front of other people in line. Just a very aggravating set up. However, the ice cream is the best around, and despite the above mentioned annoyances, I would still recommend Guernsey Farms (with a warning statement), and will still continue to come back in the summer.

Sunshine, lakes, up north, tan skin, cold drinks, bonfires, and cookouts... just a few of the favorites of summertime in Michigan. But what about our country's most popular sweet treat... ice cream? Now I'm not talking about the stuff from the chain places like Dairy Queen. I'm talking made in Michigan, fresh from the dairy farm, creamy ice cream from my personal favorite place, Guernsey. This family run business has been making incredible ice cream with local, hormone-free milk for 70 years. If that doesn't convince you that it's some of the best, then go check it out yourself. Go hungry, you can grab dinner in their restaurant serving up delicious home cooking then take a few steps over to the ice cream parlor & store to treat your sweet tooth. A single scoop of ice cream is just a little over $2 while a double is a little over $4. I personally thought the single was plenty of ice cream, but like the idea you can get two flavors with the double. As far as the restaurant, everything is less than $15, most things ranging in price from $5-$10. Guernsey feels like a small town place. When you arrive, you will most likely see people sitting outside on their trademark "big rock" or the grass enjoying their ice cream. This place is filled with couples, families, and friends. The ice cream parlor is always packed, but they have their service down to a science, getting you in and out in no time. The most difficult part will be picking your flavor as they have boards full of creative options. I went with a single scoop of the chocolate moose tracks and my hubby had a double; one scoop of mint chocolate chip and the other peanut butter moose tracks... every last scrape of the bowl was delicious!

I don't get the appeal. To me Guernsey is just okay, if even that. My husband is a bigger fan so I settled for three stars. I literally can't stand the icecream. I have tried probably at least 6 flavors here and elsewhere (Dairy King in Plymouth sells the brand, hence I only eat frozen bananas there. Don't laugh) but I just can't get into it. My husband likes the blueberry cobbler flavor a lot. I have eaten in the restaurant once. Not being a fan of fried chicken back then I opted for something else with a side of creepy frozen veggies. It was very fogettable and bland overall. My husband likes the fried chicken here. I apologize for our opinions to be polar opposites. I suppose the only way to know if you will like a place is to go and see for yourself, so I suggest you do just that. As a positive, I do like the store it is cute in a country-esque gift store kinda way. I like the fact that it is a local dairy and I like their chocolate milk (though I am partial to a different local brand which is much thicker, creamier and sweeter and whos name ends in Alder).

Writing this review based on the ice cream parlor as I have not been to the restaurant. For starters if you are a dairy and have your own ice cream parlor you better do it right (which is to suggest that you better do it better than the place on the corner) and this establishment accomplishes this in a big way. The ice cream is fabulous, the portions generous, and the staff friendly. I have also had the chocolate shake and for those who have gotten used to the garbage that the fast food places have been spewing at you, I suggest you do yourself a favor to get the shake if for no other reason but to remind yourself what an ice cream milkshake is supposed to taste like. This place is a hidden little gem tucked out of the way that I hope never goes away. Be warned though, tucked away does not mean not known. If you plan to go in the summer time during little league baseball season prepare for a crowd

Had this for dinner and it was Ok. Me and wife both got fried chicken which was good but since we have had Zhenders many times before in Frankenmuth which had similar pricing but way better chicken, we were pre spoiled. The chicken was good along with the sides which both had coleslaw and fries. Service was a little Un attentive but they have many youth working there most of which is family so it's to be expected. I will say this, their ice cream and chocolate milk are a must. Before you leave, pick up a some of each.

The Chicken is very very salty. Don't even try to mention it to any employee - it appears the 2nd generation family just don't care about the consistency or quality. My kids like the milk and ice cream.

Guernsey used to be my meeting place for business as it was a great middle ground for the area. I've eaten here about 100 times. My review reflects a visit more like 3.75 stars. The base business here is indeed a family-run dairy so the menu features their milk products and ice cream which many consider a regional favorite. The menu has everything from breakfast through dinner. It reflects typical diner fare while keeping value in mind. The most expensive item on the menu is $11.00. You can get a big breakfast here under $6.00. Burgers are decent but I like the jumbo patty melt and the broasted chicken sandwich. Dinners are ok but skip everything and order the broasted chicken meals. It's the only item on the menu that the kitchen makes from scratch and it is excellent. What's nice about the dinners is that they come with a scoop of ice cream. The ice cream is so-so. It's high volume ice cream and it tastes like it. It's not bad but it's not Rays. That may not be a fair comparison. Skip the ice cream and order the chocolate-chocolate cake. You'll have to trust me on this one. Service has always been great here. The family has about 30 employees here and the young people who work here are well trained. At a minimum they put and honest effort forward. I could easily give Guernsey another star (or more) if the food was more homemade. Also, why not offer a bottomless glass of chocolate milk for $3.00? Milk is the staple product of the dairy and one glass of their chocolate milk is never enough. NOTE: I'm not a registered dietitian.

I've been coming here since I was a little kid and there's no place like Guernseys - there are always over 10 ice cream flavors and even frozen yogurt. My sister is lactose and tolerant and they offer non dairy options too! You can get a single scoop sugar cone or cup for $3 and it's a healthy/large portion. My favorite flavors are Moose Tracks and chocolate peanut butter! Plus the rocks outside are always a fun place to sit and enjoy a cone, plus if you bring your dog they sell puppy ice creams and the dogs can eat with you outside- super cute!

Guernsey Dairy has the best ice cream. The restaurant is another story. It took way too long to get my food and when we did it arrive it was disappointing. My roasted turkey which was the special of the day was under cooked. The mashed potatoes and gravy was very salty and the corn was tough and tasteless. I was offered something else but by then I had lost my appetite. I will go back for the ice cream but not the food.

The ice cream is MADE ON SITE ... what more do you need to know? :) For Mother's Day and Father's Day they do free ice cream if you are a mom or dad (free small cone, but their small cones are HUGE) - just tell them that at the register. *Call beforehand, not sure if they're still doing this, but as of Father's Day 2012 they were. I've only ate in the restaurant once, I think the food was decent but I don't really recall. Guernseys is best on a spring or summer day - get yourself a cone and sit outside either on a bench or one of the huge boulders they have.

Whooooa! I was so excited to eat here, thinking the food would be fresh, made from scratch...mom's cooking I saw Wisconsin cheese soup and thought... Yum...NOT! It looked like Campbell's cheddar soup...thick, gelatinous, salty canned soup. I've made real Wisconsin cheese and have had made from scratch wis. Cheese soup and this wasn't it. Hubs ordered the Swedish meatball special... Eeewww weeee. GFS style all the way. Meatballs all perfectly made, dense, and tiny.. Salty salty... I ordered the BLT w/ melted cheese. I swear they took a couple thin strips of bacon, if that, crumbled them in between 2 pieces of perfectly toasted bread. The American cheese was nicely melted, but I had to open the sandwich to find the bacon. Disappointing to say the least, but I would go back to try something different. The chicken looked excellent as did some of the other sandwiches. Sometimes it just takes finding the right thing

Very good ice cream. They have a pretty good selection. I like that you stand in line to pay and they collect your ice cream. This provides more elbow room for window shopping the flavors.

  • Rebecca B.

I only eat their ice cream. Well I used to get ice cream now I get the sorbet. It is good. The place is just really strange. It doesn't look like they have updated the interior since they built the building. Also you pay for your scoop, take the receipt over to the kid behind the ice cream counter, and pick out your flavors. I don't know why this bugs me, but it does. The scoop sizes are true - a "kiddie" is very small, a "small" is SMALL. The other issue is not totally their fault, but the place attracts ooooolllllldddddd people. Super old. So once you find a place to park (if you also happen to have a handicapped sticker, forget it - you'll never get a spot) keep your head up in the parking lot because you could get backed over by a Buick. So complaints aside, the products they produce are expensive but tasty.

Ya know what's NOT good for breakfast? Guernsey Farms Dairy. They "don't do" eggs any other way that scrambled because "the cooks don't know how to do them any other way." Are you kidding me? This is a real restaurant, and they only know how to scramble an egg? This place used to be excellent. It has allowed itself to go downhill.

Our kids love this, and who am i kidding so do i. this is a treat. The ice Cream is so good. its the best. Sometimes the lines can get long, but its worth the wait. This ice cream is outstanding. Visited June 2011

5 for the ice cream; 1 for the food. I love the flavors, and find the praline pecan and butter pecan to be excellent. I have never taken anyone here and found them disappointed with the ice cream. Unfortunately, the few times I have tried the restaurant, the food has been cafeteria quality at restaurant prices. Thankfully, the ice cream is good enough to make a nice meal.

So, I'm driving along the road, looking for a park to stop at and eat a snack, when all of a sudden I remember a good friend telling me a couple of years ago or more that there was some dairy aways from Livonia, where we grew up, that had the BEST buttermilk. Knowing I wasn't too far from South Lyon where she lives now, I figured maybe I was somewhere near this place. I pulled over where I could pull out my handy-dandy phone and look on my handy-dandy Yelp to see if I could find it. I saw this place and the map showed I wasn't too far from it so I decided to come here and check it out. At first I didn't see buttermilk on their menu, then I asked the hostess and she verified they did sell it so I decided to heck with my other food, I'd just come in a here for my snack. I was seated, perused the menu, and ordered a soup and salad with Chicken and Dumplings Soup and a half Egg Salad sandwich, and a large glass of buttermilk to go with. That was one TALL glass of buttermilk and it WAS good. I like mine with a sprinkle if salt and pepper in it, as you will see in my picture. Everything was totally scrumptious and I didn't even have room for ice cream, so I suppose I will have to go back for that sometime. And as long as I was there I picked out a birthday card for the friend I'm staying with and a loaf of their delicious Apple Bread for her. She loved it! I left happy and when I checked with my friend later she verified that this was, indeed, the place she'd been telling me about. Good instincts, ML. Oh, and that tall glass of buttermilk? $1.25. 100911

Their Ice Cream is so good but I just got off the phone with a lady to inquire about an order and her tone was condescending the whole way through. It would be so convenient to order from them for my event but I'm truly reconsidering after that.

I only went to the ice cream shop at this place. The ice cream is so fresh and natural. In the other word, the ice cream is not like ice cream in the frozen food section at any super market store. It's taste like the home made ice cream. I love it!

Like many others have said, the food was just okay, but the ice cream was great! It really made it worthwhile. My roommate's aunt recommended that she go there, and she invited me along. There is a front section just for the ice cream, and then a restaurant section. We got there around 5:15, and were sat promptly, and the first thing I noticed is that the crowd is definitely... older. I felt kind of like reverse Children of the Corn or something because besides the staff we were the ONLY people in the restaurant under the age of 55. If they had tried to murder us it's not like we wouldn't have been able to outrun them so we sat down anyways to peruse the menu. Our server was over promptly and was very courteous. Since the menu is so large I asked what he recommended, which was the chicken ranch wrap that I ended up getting. It comes with chips, but the chips were average at best. The vegetables are diner veggies, not bad, but the minestrone soup was very good and came out before the meal hot and fast, as did my dining partner's dinner roll. She ended up getting the fried chicken and raved about it, and even took some home. I wasn't going to get any ice cream but I did, a baby scoop of butter pecan, which was heavenly and delicious! I ended up getting a carton to take home as well as a vanilla ice cream cookie. Definitely the ice cream is a tad expensive, 2.25 for a baby scoop I got, but worth it as a special treat.

Stopped in on our way back home for Ice cream. I'm more of a soft serve guy but this Ice cream was delicious. I didn't like how you pay first and the register is right near the door. It was a bit confusing because I usually like to scope out what looks good first, but we paid for 2 scoops and headed over to the Ice cream area, which was sort of crowded so I forgot about looking at the bins and just read the sign. Lemon custard sounded good and it was. My fiance ordered birthday cake Ice cream. I'm not really a fan of Ice cream with too much stuff added in but she is and was happy. It was a nice afternoon and it was a great day to sit outside on the boulders.

Can't go wrong with Guernsey's! I am an ice cream fanatic and their ice cream is awesome! Outside they have rocks that people sit on around a huge tree which is nice in the summer. My friends and I would come here a lot in high school and during college because the ice cream is good and many kids worked at this place we knew.

Whenever I come back to Michigan this is always a stop I have to make. They have the elusive Blue Moon ice cream which I can't really find anywhere else. I'm not sure what the flavor is but it is really good. Also they are known for their chicken dinners although I've never eaten there. I typically just get my ice cream and head outside and climb around on the rocks like I used to as a little kid and look at what they claim is the oldest tree in Novi.

Much like Cone Zone, my husband has a lot of memories at Guernseys. On one of our trips back to Novi we stopped at Guernsey's for breakfast. After filling up on your standard diner fare breakfast food, greasy eggs and thick syrup soaked pancakes, I wanted to get ice cream. However, my hubby thought it was too early to venture into the dessert course considering we had just had our grease soaked breakfasts. While he paid for our breakfast at the register I wandered the ice cream counter, salivating at the delicious flavors. My husband promised to bring me back later in the day, and that he did. By the time we ordered our ice cream I was so excited to dig in that I think I forgot to taste the deliciousness at first, inhaling instead of eating. I finally remembered to savor and enjoy the flavor and fell in love. Guernsey's is definitely dairy farm ice cream! You can taste the fresh cream in all their flavors! We make a point to stop at Guernsey's now every time we go back to Michigan. I just wish there was a Guernsey's distributor somewhere in Boston!
