We lucked out and visited on a Friday night. They were serving All-You-Can-Eat whitefish and chips for $10.99. THIS WAS THE BEST FISH & CHIPS WE'VE EVER HAD. I cannot stress that enough. I highly recommend it. When not snitching fish from my husband's plate, I was eating a 1/4 lb. burger which was better than average, but not terribly special. The kids menu - which establishments never seem to publish - consisted of: hot dog & fries; chicken tenders & fries; grilled cheese & fries; and mac & cheese with garlic bread. My 5-year-old daughter got the hot dog and it was huge. My 8-year-old son (who has a big appetite) enjoyed his mac & cheese but didn't finish it because the portion was large. The gift shop was also fun a kitschy. A great "Up North" experience if you're passing through Newberry.

This local gem is highly-rated, and for good reason. We stopped in for dinner while on our tour of the UP. No pretense here, and the food is delicious. The place was packed and the hostess said we might have to wait a little longer than normal due to the rush. The servers were working their butts off and ours was over to our table in about 3 mins, apologizing. I wish service where I live was this nice! I had the fish platter and my wife had the pastie. Both were delicious. Best of all, 6 out of 8 of the taps were craft beer, and Michigan craft beer at that. Bell's, Keweenaw, New Belgium, and one I didn't recognize. I was shocked, but considering there's---what, 100 breweries?---in Michigan, I shouldn't be surprised. Michiganders know good beer. Our meal came to $40! The value and quality here is great. I highly recommend this place and will definitely be stopping here next time I'm in town.

I Seen a sign on the highway for timber Charlie's in newberry Mi. and decided to try. About 11:30 am on Sunday August 16th there was a dozen people at four tables. Vary slow waitress we waited way to long for coffee, she took our order and was gone. Food arrive way to late to save the situation and the food was cold. Tables on both sides of us went uncleared while we were there. I live to far from there to ever go out of my way to go back

Average food. Didn't have crown royal, a pretty basic staple for a bar. Was slow when we got there. Small rush after a few minutes and my wife and I pretty much got ignored. Management seemed pretty useless also...type of guy Jon Taffer on Bar Rescue would scream at...bartender told him that they only had 3 wine glasses and he said, "they're too expensive and too hard to get". Pretty lazy manager. Just sat around drinking and telling his employees what to do instead of helping. He took a 4 star rating and brought it to a 2 based on his attitude towards the business

Spent the night in Newberry while visiting the UP. The restaurant was recommended by the owner of the motel we were staying in and it was only about a 15 walk from our room. I had my heart set in fried perch and was a bit disappointed when the waitress (who was the owner's daughter) informed me the were out of perch but had a bluegill substitute it had been years since I had enjoined the tasty panfish. Turned out, I was the real winner as the bluegill was lightly fried and had a clean and delicate taste. The sides of Mac 'n cheese and cole slaw were both excellent. My nephew had the summer rueben and was pleased with his meal as well. Definitely give this place a try if you find yourself in Newberry, Michigan.

I'm not going to say the best food in town, that would be the country club. I will say it's the best value in town. They have great lunch specials and good service. I can't find food this cheap downstate below the bridge. The food is excellent and definitely worth eating here. Even though the country club is superior quality, this is a real bar and grill. High quality food and friendly atmosphere. I had the hot turkey sandwich for lunch and it was plenty and she said it was the half portion. Had the turkey bacon wrap the next day and it was excellent. I was with coworkers that had all different food from burgers to chicken sandwiches, they all looked great.

Fries were delicious. On the other hand, Whitefish was jelly like in the middle. Still had to pay for it. Definitely won't be back.

I had the fish and chips with the house salad. The fish was hand breaded, firm but not over cooked. The fries were crispy, piping hot and served in a miniature deep fryer basket...nice touch. The house salad was fresh and the blue cheese dressing was homemade and good. The Bell's Oberon Ale was cold, fresh and served in a chilled Mason jar with a handle. Service was fast, friendly and polite.

I love this place. It's right on the edge of down town Newberry, MI. They are awesome. It's a family diner-bar-restaurant-dealio. They have a cute little shop attached where you can find little knick-knack type stuff, great gifts for your mom, girlfriend, aunt, sister, dad, etc. They have a cool atmosphere--not the fanciest place, but totally yummy food. Try the friend chicken...and then try to finish it, good luck with that. My boyfriend's family goes up to the upper peninsula annually and eat there once or twice while they are there. I would eat there everyday if it were closer to where we stay. It's a great place and, I'm not sure how they are related, but if you want to also see black bears while you are "U.P." there, they can tell you where to go. Oswald's Bear Ranch about 15-20 minutes away if I remember correctly and you can actually take pictures with the baby bears!!! We're heading up there tomorrow and plan on going to Timber Charlie's and Oswalds!

Stopped on a Sunday morning around 1130 after seeing a sign along M 28. They're only seemed to be one waitress and one girl busing tables. It took a while to get greeted, and then another few minutes before we were brought coffee. Took a very long time to get our 2nd cup. We were told we had limited time to get breakfast so we ordered. The breakfast menu only had five items on it, then took approximately 30 to 35 minutes before our food arrived. Two of the four dishes ordered were cold. We were hungry so we ate. For there only being a few places in town that serve breakfast I think they are missing a huge opportunity by understaffing Sunday mornings. We sat surrounded by several dirty tables for our entire visit. I never saw someone who looked like a manager so there was really no one to speak with about our experience. It's a nice place right on the edge of town but I felt more of an inconvenience than a welcomed guest. I don't travel through that part of the UP very often but I will not return.

Best food in town! The portion sizes are large enough for a lumberjack and it really is the best food in town. I recommend the breakfast with the steak, Boo yeah!

TC's is a bit more of a bar than a restaurant but is very family friendly nevertheless. Food is pretty much what you'd expect- bar food. They added a page of European foods (German etc) to the menu but its not very veg friendly. The pasty is a bit too dry, even for a pasty. They also offer a 5 lb. ox burger for any one who wants to have an upset stomach in the middle of nowhere U.P. Service is kinda slow but not too bad. Price is fine. I'd knock 'em half a point for blocking a perfectly fine entrance/ exit merely to make u walk past their horrible gift shop.

Nothing fancy but I like it when I travel up there and hang out with friends in the UP. I just don't care for the snowmobilers when they come in with the smell of gas all over their clothes; it happens quite frequently and will make eating difficult. However, the overall experience is fine.

Went there for breakfast about 9:30 on a Saturday morning. Understaffed (1 wait staff), and after an exceptionally long wait, omelette was over cooked. Pancakes were tasty though.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
