We had a horrible experience at Local. Picture two families on a bike ride on their vacation in New Buffalo, stopping at what sounds and looks like a perfect food shop fit for foodies. Well, as we entered we surveyed a beautiful selection of meats and fresh produce. Subsequently we were told this is not a "playground" as our children were holding our baskets of items we planned on purchasing. The staff behind the counter were rude and far from accepting of children in their store. We were completely insulted and had planned on purchasing a large about of items, but consider this to be unacceptable. Though they may have a good selection, I wouldn't consider patronizing ever again!

Total. Satisfaction. Always. Great foods from local sources. Homemade sausages and bacon. Terrific staff. Always wish I'd bought more.

What a wonderful little store! I stopped by and stocked up on my way back to Chicago. The sausages I got were so good and wonderful. I wish that I had been able to buy and sample more of their meats. I also bought some cheeses, salami and rilletes to make a big ole cheese board. All really good choices but they were from my local cheese shop in Chicago so nothing new for me. I love how they manage to pack so many choices into such a small space!

First of all, Ellie and Pat are so wonderfully kind and welcoming that alone is worth the trip. From there, perusing all the local wonders from ramps to granola to crackers and cheese is so lovely. Then, THEN, you get to their meats. The sausage, the chorizo the BACON JAM. Their sausage is hands down the best sausage I have had. I eat minimal meat but would seriously eat this stuff all the time. The meat is so fresh and delicious. The Bacon Jam is seriously the best thing I have eaten. Had it on bread, with crackers, with cheese, alone. It is so good. Definitely worth a stop or a special trip to see what they have to offer. I can guarantee you will NOT be disappointed. Freaking bacon jam. I now dream of bacon jam...

a great butcher with reasonable meat prices (for grass-fed beef, chicken and lamb). a perfect stop to source what you need for dinner - they carry local veggies, local baked goods (including Pleasant House pies) and have a good cheese selection. Try their pie-to-go (all ingredients prepped for you to bake) - and the rillettes or confit with crusty bread for an appetizer!

Very nice people. Great products. We got thick cut "Hap's Bacon", house made Spanish chorizo, bib lettuce (best I've ever tasted from Laporte IN), awesome asparagus and came back for Bacon Jam Sunday.

A little shop with a lot of heart. A cured and smoked meat heaven. Wonderful sausages, local beef, handmade (glorious) bacon, with select local and international products to round out their selections. This truly is "food of love" type stuff. Along with great taste, you can really feel the care that the Mullinses put into their products. If you are a food nerd, you must stop here. If you like good food, you must stop here.

The owners, Pat and Ellie, are so sweet and couldn't be more helpful. I've been there twice, once just for bacon (which is outstanding), and the second time for large meat orders for christmas and both times when smoothly and the meat was OUTSTANDING. Seriously, it was crazy. Haven't tried the Bacon Jam, but I'll be sure to make the drive up from South Bend at some point to do it. This place is really great (for many, many reasons), so you should definitely give it a try.

The best of the best. These guys know how to produce quality meats and products. They are extremely friendly and willing to help explain and offer advice on any products as well.

Going to Local is more like visiting friends. That's how welcoming the young owners are. The bacon is the only bacon I eat now. We've had the smoked chicken several times. And many of the sausages. They do a good smoke on their meats, subtle yet flavorful. The front of the shop is always changing depending on the local produce. This is farm to your table at its best.

Bacon Jam...do I need to say anything more?.... The trip to New Buffalo is worth it to visit owners Pat and Ellie and get REAL food that's delicious (and not overpriced.)

Local is a carnivore's heaven on earth! It's a little shop off Red Arrow Highway that has a wonderful selection of local beef, sausages, bacon, chicken and so on. In addition to all the meats they have an awesome array of local organic produce and some really interesting canned/jarred products. The store is a great addition to the area and the owners are such a pleasure! We asked a ton of questions and they were happy to give us suggestions and talk about the different products. They also gave us some suggestions for other places in town using local foods. Apparently they have some pretty awesome house made bacon jam that's only available on Sunday mornings. I put a reminder in my calendar to run by the shop and pick up a jar before it sells out!

Baon Jam, Bacon Jam, Bacon Jam Bacon Jam on Sundays ... very tasty. Their breakfast sausage was absolutely delicious. Very small, but a lot of good stuff (cheese, meats) packed into the space. Would consider (and am) making a run down just to get the bacon jam on a Sunday morning, it's that good.

Bacon jam? Yummm. Bring on the baguette! This place is super cute, with plenty of gourmet and delicious offerings. The breakfast sausage was sensational. The bacon jam that we got on our Sunday morning visit was super tasty. Will return.

We drove from Naperville just to get the bacon jam for a friend's birthday (he's a bacon fanatic!). Of course we had to buy some for ourselves. It's interesting and an acquired taste, but good. The flavor reminds me of German potato salad. We also bought some of the breakfast sausage to try. OMG! It is probably the best I've ever had! I'm kind of picky about sausage to begin with, but this one was moist and flavorful! So worth the trip! The owners were so nice and have a great little business going for themselves. Highly recommend!

I love everything about Local. If I lived in SW Michigan 365 days of the year, I can easily say I would stop in once a week. That being said, I must be content with a visit once a month. (sad face) The owners are great people. They encourage you to call ahead to see what they have - and will set aside your order so you don't miss out on, say, a delicious pork chop. Organic, seasonal produce. Local cheeses. Grassfed Beef. And...The. Best. Sausage... their very own Spicy Fennel Sausage. Most recently we stopped in for more sausage, but also picked up a beautiful grass fed flank steak. This is how my boyfriend and I remember meat tasting when we were young(er). I can't explain it, but we can only assume it is the quality of grassfed beef from the nearby Middlebrook Farm that makes the difference. They have all sorts of poultry, pork, and beef, along with their cured meats. So trust me... get thee to Local. Just look for the flag that reads "Bacon".
