Oh....Em...Gee. Wow! This little gem in Muskegon ended up being such a surprise! After a few meals by the campfire, the husband and I decided its time to yelp up some good food in this awesome town. Just reading the reviews left us intrigued and a bit drooly. Nestled amongst some other independent businesses, Mia + Grace features a lovely, casual dining room adorned with handmade, diy-style art. The counter in front makes it seem like carry-out orders are quite welcome. There was a case full of some amazing pastries up front alongside some other dry treats that could easily tack on $3-4 to your order. The menu is clearly displayed above the counter, each menu item is written an huge strip of paper that goes on and off the menu board based upon availability. The menu seems to rotate often there, based on the all the 'inactive' menu items that were hanging behind the cash register, patiently waiting for their turn. Honestly, the whole place seemed like if a restaurant met Etsy.com and had a lovely, Michigan-born bistro. Even the offerings on the menu reminded me of Etsy, all featuring home-made, in house created ingredients. My husband tried the Duck PB+J sandwich (the yelper hyped dish that originally brought us in). I think he had a mouth-gasm! He loves peanut butter, he loves duck and the green pepper jelly rounded out the whole sandwich leaving it perfectly moist and delicious. I even liked it, and I don't even like duck! For my lunch I picked the farm-raised beef burger with the lavender bun. The fresh lavender on the bun was an amazing contrast to the perfectly cooked beef. Only complaint was that the beef was so juicy, it made my bun soggy faster than I hoped. The sandwich was also accompanied with some homemade ketchup that was spot on. For drinks, we choose to try their homemade sodas. Vanilla-Lavender for me, some herbal pairing for the husband (can't remember which). Mine had a bit of cream, making it this smooth delicious drink that was better as a dessert following my burger instead of something to drink with it. Mia + Grace also offers homemade hot dogs and sausages, in house made baked goods and other homemade accompaniments. Seriously, we were blown away with the flavors, the combinations, the local ingredients and the freshness. We kept on saying how we found some amazing, sexy, cool, delicious gem! How amazing it was! How people would go crazy over this place back at home (this place would blow-UP in Ferndale or Midtown, Detroit...and then they could charge 2x the price --- are you guys listening, Mia + Grace?) I just wish this place wasn't 3 hours away from home. The only less-than-stellar part of the experience? The staff, which was just a-ok in my book. They didn't seem overly friendly, but they did their job. We didn't feel super welcome as we ordered or super appreciated as we left. It all just seemed so matter-of-fact, something I didn't completely expect given the warmness and handmade quality that they hope to portray with their food and decor. Despite that small shortcoming, I am impressed...I definitely know that we will be stopping by again when we make another journey to lovely Muskegon.

This gem is one of my favorite restaurants in West MI, a must try! I could wax on poetically about my love for Mia and Grace, so I will keep this simple; They make their own bacon ice cream, need i say more?!

I wouldn't normally feel qualified to write a review for a place I've only been once, but as I've moved out of the Muskegon area with no plans to go back anytime soon, I feel called, somehow, to share with Muskegonites how great this place is. Places like this, that not only utilize all the great ingredients the area has to offer, but also support the wonderful local art community are exactly what the Muskegon needs in its big rebound. I had the duck PBJ (duck confit, green pepper jelly, and cashew butter), which was served with a small plate of greens. Despite being pretty hungry, I only made it through half, but was psyched to take my leftovers home for my boyfriend, because I wasn't sure how to describe the sandwich without it sounding really strange. The menu was full of unexpected concoctions such as this (e.g. bacon-flavored ice cream and homemade sodas!) that one just doesn't find in a small town like Muskegon. Overall, the atmosphere was great, and you've gotta love a place that is so proud to be part of the local community. And yet, most of my family in the area hasn't even heard of it. That's what I feel like Yelp is for, to elevate places like this that maybe don't get as much exposure as they deserve. I would probably recommend it above almost anywhere else for a lunch or dinner in downtown Muskegon.

Returned to Mia & Grace last week. It was the best food, but not the best dining experience we had while vacationing on the west side. The fried goat cheese salad indulged all my cravings. The cheese discs were coated with a light and crispy breading, bursting with tangy and creamy goat cheese inside, cooked to perfection and seasoned just right, served atop a bed of crunchy fresh greens with a refreshing sherry vinaigrette. I could eat that regularly! My salmon (cooked in parchment) with a beet vinaigrette had a beautiful presentation, was moist, flaky and flavorful, I felt very good about myself eating something so healthy. BUT my daughter's Burmese stew (pork shoulder, pork belly, cooked in caramel sauce and a darn good combination of spices I couldn't identify, served over rice and topped off with two sunny side up eggs) and my son's pork belly Reuben (crunchy sweet and tangy slaw, yummy rye bread) stole the show. Both were crazy good and fun with layers and layers of flavors. My other son's duck perogies were skimpy on the filling, but the flavor of the broth was well developed. We finished off lunch by sharing a slice of cherry pie, ala mode, of course - so fresh, tart, sweet, creamy and all around yummy. House made sodas were delicious. Bravo to the chef(s)! HOWEVER, a great restaurant practices hospitality. As much as I love the food, sadly, the staff at Mia & Grace cultivates a prententious atmosphere; like they're doing you a favor by being in business. Plus, when I requested the chicken salad sandwich served on a substitution rye (which is a bread offered on the menu) I was told it is only offered on focaccia. Because I'm hypoglycemic I need to avoid white flour. Hence, I ordered the salmon. A classy restaurant will accommodate a guest's reasonable request. Service is slow to boot. Exceptional food served with hospitality is the formula for a standout restaurant, and brings people back.

Appetizers= tried chips and dip (was like a sour cream and chive dip... it was not bad) chips were very light (good thing) Meal= italian sausage & picci (loved the noodles, very saucy drool and italian sausage, i love fennel, so it can never, well rarely, go wrong) Dessert= cremé brulee (top was vanilla, and bottom was choco. def. the vanilla fan. the menu was very interesting, like huge rectangular pieces of paper pinned to the wall, in handwriting, i personally enjoyed that menu. It was a bit warm in the restaurant, maybe their AC wasn't working? but otherwise, the waiter was very nice and accomodating for our group of 9.

Mia & Grace has some of the best food I've ever eaten. As Nathan A said, it is an artist's workshop. I love that all of the food on the menu has a story and the chefs know where things came from and that everything is made from scratch. All of the desserts here are fantastic, from the homemade ice cream to whatever is on the board that day. The housemade sodas are also a nice treat! Excellent coffee and coffee-based drinks as well!

  • Lauren M.

Absolutely excellent! I DREAM about their duck sandwich. They make a vanilla lavender cream soda in house which is also fantastic.

My favorite place for where it is. Great farm to table food.

4 stars because it is SOOOO worth your time! =) I pulled up to the curb with low expectations - late lunch on a Monday afternoon. I exited my car and had a wait on the sidewalk while my lunch date arrived. Peaking in the huge front window, I viewed a most welcoming site! The tables were covered in white table cloth with a ribbon of brown paper bag material draped over top. It was a nice sunny, February day and the lighting from inside seem to compliment the ambiance. Mia and Grace were truly beckoning me to enter. As my date arrived, I held the door open and peaked inside. Sure enough, the wood floor, artistry laden walls and high ceilings were all just more supportive evidence that I was in for a treat. Upon entering, it is a straight shot to the back wall where you pass between two rows of tables. There is a L-shaped counter along that rear wall with all of the typical restaurant affects. The Walls behind the counters are draped in the same brown paper bag material, but with the menu written on it. Offering a delicious assortment of foods, and coming from a gourmet-cook background, I did not hesitate to pry into the server's mind about what was what. He definitely did not have a cook's knowledge of what the food is or how it is prepared, he did seem to have a fundamental knowledge about what goes on in a kitchen, and he also seemed have a genuine love for "foodie" style grub so talking to him was easy. This establishment makes most of their meats by hand (Charcuterie is the branch of cooking devoted to prepared meat products such as bacon, ham, sausage, terrines, galantines, pâtés, and confit, primarily from pork.). I ordered coffee, the muffaletta and Cajun onion soup. They were all delicious. My only criticism was that the sandwich was dripping with olive oil... I love olive oil, but A.) dripping is too much; and B.) on a date, I don't want to be dripping off my hands and chin. But being such a new joint, I did half-expect the cooks to be slightly inexperienced and inconsiderate of how a customer should receive his/her food. I am very excited to return and try something else! Did I mention that all of their everything is local? Yeah! Eating at economically-conscientious places like that make the act of eating such an easy and pleasureful experience! Sum it up: Great atmosphere, great service, and great food! The trifecta of perfection! 4 stars because it is SOOOO worth your time! =)

Great food for what seemed to be not a great area. The cheese platter was fantastic, the burgers perfectly cooked with great bread and the pimento cheese sandwich was awesome. Don't miss the homemade cream soda if you're into that kind of thing. Wish we could've ordered the whole menu! Only negative was the slow service - not that the food took too long to cook, but when we entered we weren't greeted and had no idea if we needed to seat ourselves or what. Then took a while for someone to come to our table after we had decided our order at the back of the restaurant.

Three words...best sandwich ever. According to my husband, he had the best sandwich he has ever had there. The duck ham and jam was a real winner. Good job to Mia and Grace, their food is fantastic.

Such a fan of their food!! I was so, so looking forward to the duck skin sandwich, but they were out, so the waiter gave me an excellent suggestion. Things we tried: -bone marrow: such GENEROUS portions, and so delicious!! Seriously, I'm not gonna tell you what it costs but take the price you normally think it is....and divide it by 2!! THAT'S INSANE!! And the salad was good. I friggin hate vegetables, but the balsamic dressing was so good. -creole onion soup: it's like french onion soup..but BETTER bc there's no cheese crust!! -duck pb&j: I had a bite and enjoyed it, but i really was enamored by the... -potato salad: why is this given in such a tiny portion!!?!! I'm coming back and ordering doubles of this..omg I die, it was so good. -bblt: pork belly, bacon, lettuce..and no t bc I don't like tomatoes. The sandwich is huge, like honestly it could've fed the bf and me even before we decided to have appetizers -chips: light and airy! -lavender vanilla cream soda: bf liked this, but I personally thought it tasted like licking a candle. Im biased though bc I don't like cream sodas. I also thought the lemon thyme soda sounded delicious! -orangina: I fell in love with it in Paris and now order it every time I see it, so I of course had to order this here! Will I be back?! DEFINITELY!! So glad to have found such a gem in Muskegon. Ps: for pix, check out what Andrew N. posted....trying to steal my yelp thunder :/!!

AMAZING place!!! Had some roasted chicken soup that had great flavor. For my main course I home made Gnocchi with Ox tail. It was AMAZING!!! Huge portion and wonderful flavor. It came with some kind of amazing carmelized onions and mushrooms. Sauce was similar to a beef Goulash, just fantastic. I would GLADLY go back. The place is really neat too. Local artwork on the wall and great atmosphere.

Finally a restaurant worth their rating and even better than that. This was the best meal we have had in a long long time. I was a little worried when we pulled up because the area that this is in is not well kept but the restaurant is gorgeous. There was a little confusion when we walked in because we didn't know if it was seat your self or not. How it works is there is a menu on the back wall. You go look at that, pick what you want and then sit down and someone comes and gets your order. The service was fantastic. I unfortunately did not catch the gentleman's name that waited on us but he was super friendly and just plain awesome. The restaurant is farm to table and from scratch so it is by no means a fast meal. Don't come expecting in and out. This place is a place to be enjoyed at a slower (but not too slow) pace. We had appetizers, lunch, and dessert in 45 minutes. We started off with the deviled eggs and cheese plate. Deviled eggs were good and creamy. The cheese plate was well portioned. So much better than I have had anywhere else, even from artisan cheese shops. Great parings. Just fantastic. Our 11 month old loved it, too. My husband had the Farm Egg BLT. It was delicious. House made bread just takes it over the top. The egg yolks were perfectly oozy. I had the BBQ Pulled Pork. It was the right amount of tangy and spicy. The house made pickles were sooo yummy. Both of us had a side of potatoe salad which is probably one of the top potato salads I've ever had. For dessert we ordered the sour cream donuts. These remind me of the donuts that my mom made. They are cake donuts rather than an airy yeast donuts. Served hot with powdered sugar and chocolate dip. Soooo good. We also got a oatmeal cookie to go which was big and yummy. Wish there were more restaurants like this where things are farm to table and scratch made. Worth the trip if you are from out of town. Just watch the hours and days. They are only open til 5pm and closed Sunday and Monday. Support the locals and try this one!

This is the absolute best lunch spot in Muskegon. Made from scratch. Local. Farm-to-table. Are you drooling already because YOU SHOULD BE. Its a very slow service experience so be sure to give yourself time & be patient. It is so worth it! Go there now and give them your money. A true big city-like gem in a small city. We are truly lucky to have Jamie & Jeremy's meticulous, talented hands ensuring everything served to your table is extraordinary. The care and attention they give to food quality is unmatched. Their love for the craft shows in each dish. They not only handmake sodas, but they handmake CONDIMENTS. what. Awesome. Best. Ever. Go. Yesterday.

This place is GREAT!!! Perhaps the best meal of our entire lives? Every element amaZING! Just the right serene blue interior, complimented by a super competent waiter Josh- and then he let me choose the music & i asked for Michael Franti & within seconds i was dancing in my seat. Even the vegetarian teenager was smiling The whole experience was slightly orgasmic Sooooooooo good, thank you!

Well this is a little gem. I was curious because of their odd hours (11-5) but when Jenna at Amore Trattoria said they were her friends, that's all I needed. This is truly a different kind of resturant with a menu not seen in most places. They skillfully introduce you to things maybe you never thought about eating...but once there, you will be glad you did and they did. How about pig ear sliced paper thin and fried then dressed with a cilantro lime sweet dressing. Ahhhh to die for. Well, maybe not die, but REALLY good. Did you say "Beef Cheek"??? Thought so. Covered. Delicious. Served with chorizo and gnocchi and flash fried parsley....WHAT??? Yes!! And my friend it is deliciouso!!! An hour drive for me from Kentwood to Muskegon, but I will walk if I have to. I know all the stuff about "locally sourced" and "Farm-to-table" and I get it, really. They do all that, but for me it's about the taste, the originality... all of which is spectacular. If you want to stretch your tastebuds and smile while you're dong it...go...right now....(Oh, wait they are probably closed.....go tomorrow unless its Sunday or Monday) Good jobs kids. I'll be back. Jenna was right again.

We were going to the Curry Kitchen but they were closed. A gentleman saw us looking in the window of this place and came over and told us this was the best restaurant in Muskegon. We gave it a shot and loved it. Extremely helpful and attentive wait staff. They did an awesome job. The Duck PB & J was recommended by another patron and it was awesome. Who would have thought? Well they nailed it. We also had the boudin sausage as a starter and it was as good as I have found in New Orleans. A must try is the Blue Cheese Stuffed Dates, amazing. We will certainly return. Give them a shot.

Thanks to Yelp, we found this place while visiting Muskegon. OMG - this place is fabulous. Everything we tried was fantastic. My wife started with the Beet soup and I the Creole Onion soup. We moved on to the Chorizo and Petite Basque starter. For entrees I had the Flat Iron Steak, she had the Pork Belly Hash. It was such a welcome find. They take great care in the preparation and presentation of the food. The price was right. I can't say enough about this place.

  • Lola N.

Farm to table... and to my belly! What a work of art this place is! They recommend that you start with an appetizer because of the wait time for the entrees and sandwiches. The blue cheese stuffed dates and chorizo and petite basque were tantalizing. It does take a while for the food to come out, so definitely order starters if you are really hungry. I was recommended and tested out the duck PB&J (duck confit, cashew butter, pepper jelly). It was delectable. This sammie is a must-have. The BBLT (maple-glazed pork belly, house-cured bacon, lettuce, tomato, maple aioli) that my brother ordered was extremely outrageous in size, but this place has a New Orleans twist, so it was not that surprising. It was somewhat inedible in that form, but it was tasty and great quality of meat nonetheless. The other sandwiches at the table were also yummy. The food here is stellar. My only complaint is the service. The wait staff seemed to all hate each other, and they were not attentive at all. One sat with her face buried in an iPad while I tried to ask questions about the menu, and other one stood by with a glazed-over look. There were five of us at the table and we definitely watched the girl who appeared to be the manager roll her eyes at our waitress and then whisper to another nearby waitress as they then emitted a Cyclops-style optic blast in her direction. None of the other mutants were very friendly either. I see that other Yelpers shared the same sentiment, so hopefully the owners can whip them into shape. Regardless, this place is original and the food trumps the uninviting employees. I raved about it to everyone I knew in the Midwest.

Exquisite food for a somewhat "pricy" menu. But you are paying for everything organic, everything actually REAL! Best restaurant I've ever been too.

This is A great little lunch spot. We wanted something close to route 31 that we could use as a lunch stop between our travel from Sleeping Bear dunes and Chicago. This was a little far From the high way and our sever kept emphasizing SLOW food, so we were thinking this was a big mistake, but the food was delicious. The stuffed dates were unbelievably good. We also liked the home made sodas.

  • Jarrell C.

Had lunch there over the Holidays. What a great place! I love that there's someone that and cares enough to buck the trend around here. Not sure I'd do dinner here given the location, but if there's plans to move to a better area I'd follow them anywhere!

  • Sean B.

Excellent and unexpected. Food is cooked to order and they warned us that would mean "slow" but it didn't seem that way at all. Food arrived promptly and everything was extremely flavorful. Definitely will go back when I am in Muskegon.

Ib miss this place. Don't make it often since we live on the other side of the state. Great home made local food. The duck pbj is awesome and so is the pork belly. We have been here with the kids and they made a grilled cheese for us. Heck I would have eaten it. They made it to order and at a great price. IMO you can't beat it in Muskegon

A rare gem among the urban blight of Muskegon. A gem of such clarity, cut and color is an anomaly in these parts. Absolutely delicious.

Amazing! Nice, clean, and simple decor. Followed by a friendly greeting and a great explanation of how to order. Service was great! Friendly, helpful, and very knowledgeable about the menu. Food absolutely fantastic! Fresh, made to order. They make everything from scratch. From bread to sausage to the condiments. I will definitely be back in town for this place. Keep it up. You get what you pay for. Awesome quality and reasonably priced.

Every time I have went here (which has been around 10-12 times now), I have NEVER been disappointed. I love the concepts this restaurant brings to the table. The owners use a farm to table concept that encompasses local growers, producers and shop owners too. The menu is forever changing and there is always something new. Whenever we have guests come into town Mia and Grace is always first on my list.

I wanted to take my parents here because I heard good things about it. They were not as amused as I was. They found the service to be slow, the food to be a little "odd" and the atmosphere to be quirky. I however, liked it a lot. Maybe I'm still working out my contrary teenager stage...who knows. My father had the beef tongue schnitzel. It was crispy, well seasoned and delicious. I would definitely order it if it was still on their seasonal, ever-changing menu. I had the BBQ brisket sandwich and it was also very tasty and generously plated. The sauce was sweet, with a little bit of spice. My mother ordered a chicken salad sandwich, which was good, but a little less creative than the other entrees. I also had a cream soda with my meal. It was nearly impossible for me not to order another one. It was fizzy, sweet and smooth; actually made with real cream. Mmmm. My only complaint was the asparagus salad. Asparagus is delicious. It is complimented by salty things like prosciutto, sour things like a balsamic vinaigrette but definitely not by the oddly bitter Asian-inspired sesame dressing they tossed it in. I was kind of sad to see asparagus go to waste because I love asparagus, but the dressing was just messing with the fresh green flavor of the vegetable. We ended with some goose egg and bacon ide cream. The bacon was a pass for me. The goose egg ice cream, however, was a delicious vanilla custard ice cream that was very rich and fresh. I will definitely be back to continue enjoying their local, creative offerings. Give it a try.

Just moved to the area from living in larger cities the past 10 years (Indianapolis and Cleveland). I've been disappointed with the "culinary scene" here, to say the least. However, I just stopped by for lunch (ordered the Duck-Ham & Jam sandwich with a side of apple-fennel coleslaw) and it was easily the best thing i've eaten since moving here. So glad I found this place. I will be back. A lot.

Not only do Mia & Grace put a fresh spin on classic staples, this unique farm to table bistro creates their own dishes that contain hints of ethnic flavors. I loved that they find it important to use organic and locally sourced ingredients. In addition to the outstanding cuisine, their coffee was strong, and the interesting decor showcased work of local artists. Altogether, this experience was enjoyed over an eclectic soundtrack playing in the background. Mia & Grace quickly became one of my top favorite eateries in Muskegon.

  • J S.

I have enjoyed Mia & Grace twice now, in all honesty my first visit was a better experience but overall a fantastic place run by passionate folks excited about local fresh food. The menu changes frequently, actually there is no menu. When you enter you should head to the back and peruse your selections handwritten on the wall , when options sell out they cross them off. If you go with any picky or less adventurous eaters there may not be many options for them but the great majority should find something to keep them happy. No alcohol for those that must abide, not sure on BYOB, never asked. IMO some local craft beer options would fit right into their vibe. 100% for sure worth a visit to see if it's your cup of tea, I will be back for sure.

One of the best restaurants in West Michigan. I highly recommend to duck pb and j. It's a little messy, but it is one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. I've tried the pimento cheese and other pasta items that were just as good. Their menu changes quite frequently, so there is always a variety of different choices for a great price. However, it closes at 5 so you have to come for an early dinner or lunch.

Such a fun place to eat. I love that they use fresh local food and that they change their menu to accommodate that. My food was great and so was the service. Try one of their home made sodas (the lavender vanilla is great) and the stuffed dates. Yummy!! The atmosphere is warm and inviting and just slightly quirky. I am so glad to see people take a chance on down town Muskegon. I wish them much success! I will definitely be back.

excellent! great farm to table restaurant, VERY glad to see places like this popping up in muskegon. :) duck pb&j w/ salt and pepper chips - fantastic! was a little bit sweet for my own personal preference, might ask for pepper jelly on side next time. the chips were great! peanut and celery soup - yum, yum, yum! not overdone, just delicious. carrot cake - super moist, wonderful frosting...does have raisins and too many walnuts for my taste. also had the vanilla lavender soda...very nice. overall just a great experience. will definitely be returning.

Tucked away in an unsuspecting Muskegon neighborhood. Had the chance to try this place while visiting some friends and we were impressed. We started with the Pretzel roll, it was nice and toasty and just salty enough. I had a salad that was delicious and my other half had the duck sausage--let's just say there wasn't a crumb left on our plates.

I am always so happy to have a reason to visit Muskegon. (Imagine that) Mia & Grace is as special a restaurant as I have found. The food is absolutely delicious and unique. Even though they specialize in hearty food they seem to pay attention to every detail. The BBLT is of the charts! It does not get any better than this in West Michigan (Or anywhere else)

This place is phenomenal! The service was superb. First of all they make EVERYTHING from scratch and it definitely shows! Everything we ordered was delicious. Best potato salad I've ever had. I wish this place was local to me so I could visit more often. Amazing!! Definitely recommend trying it.

Quite possibly the most excellent restaurant in Michigan. I've traveled a lot, almost fifty countries, and this is a top five favorite... Local, seasonal, prepared with passion, served without pretense or attitude.

The menu situation can be a bit confusing because you have to read it from a wall really far away, but other than that this place is original and delicious. I got buttermilk fried quail with corncakes and blueberry maple sauce- a lot like chicken and waffles. It was so unique. The service is just alright but the food makes up for it. The menu always changes so you never get bored. I highly recommend this place!

Hubby & I are full time "restaurant testers" and this is the best food we've had since....EVER! We live near Ann Arbor, MI and, while visiting Muskegon, we checked Yelp for a good restaurant. Thank you, Yelp! Risotto fritters. Awesome. (Wish they had mail-order!) Pork Belly Reuben. A pork lover's dream with dee-lish pickled cabbage. Chaurice PoBoy. Just spicy enough. Excellent. Absolute best (non-greasy) homemade chips I've ever had. ...and for dessert...Candied Bacon Ice Cream! Soooooo good! Everything is made in-house and, believe me, you can tell. I WILL make the (almost 6 hour round trip) drive from my home just to eat here again. Honest!

  • William B.

on Vacation in western MI, found Mia & Grace's recommended on other blogs (shame on me). Pork belly ruben, duck bratwurst, and grass-fed burger with homemade bun, 'graced' our table. polished it off with their home made candied bacon ice cream. It was all outstanding. All mostly local-sourced, and made in-house: bakery, grind their own sausage, etc... I would go out of my way to go here again, the next time I get to western MI. I'm still having dreams of the ruben. It is an odd, artsy little cafe, in a kind of shady neighborhood, with very wierd hours. 9-5 during the week? not for breakfast, not really for dinner.

Fabulous little location - very unique, artsy & original. I went with a friend who had been there before, so was not as confused as I would have if I were alone - the menu is on the back wall, and look as though it changes semi-often - I had Turkey & Dumpling soup and the Spinach Salad - both were fabulous! I will be returning!

I love this place for a number of reasons and not just because of the food, which is outstanding. I love it because the owners were pioneers somewhat, opening up a restaurant in a less than desirable location, opening up a foodie's dream in a market that, generally speaking, would rather have pounds of same old, so-so food, and doing it in a way that is so humble and modest, it leads people to complain about the lack of service. The only less-than-stellar experience I've had here was when I ordered the flattened chicken with blueberry sauce. You see, I had eaten there about a month prior and had the flattened chicken with Gorgonzola sauce. I honestly had dreams about it for weeks after (both sleeping and awake). So when we went, I was so excited to see "flattened chicken" that I just ordered it without reading the rest. Imagine my surprise when it was delivered and there was a purple sauce. I was heartbroken! I don't like blueberries. However, I manned up and it turned out to be quite pleasant - nothing I dreamed about for weeks following, mind you, but very nice. My favorite thing right now is the maple sausage (made in house) served with the house roll and a fried egg. I always feel sad when I finish it, even though I am stuffed. I just want that awesome taste to keep going! Finally, their desserts are incredible. My favorite is the carrot cake. I just don't have the words to describe it, but my mouth feels like it won the lottery on Christmas morning with every bite! Exaggeration? Maybe, but it is really, really good, and I highly recommend it, even if you don't typically like carrot cake. I feel like I need to address complaints about the service. If you are looking for server's assistants with white gloves that fill your water each time you take a sip, this isn't it. The way I see it, it has a staff that sits back and let's you enjoy your meal without pestering you. I've never felt neglected there, but I've never felt bothered either. So try it, and enjoy, knowing that the food is the true star of this restaurant.

Drove in from Chicago to take the kids to Michigan's Adventure. Decided to stick to our guns on being "foodies" and look for good independent restaurants. Found great reviews of this place and so happy we went out of our way to eat there. Server gave us great recommendations and we thoroughly enjoyed the food. My wife had the hamburger and asked for medium well. Came out perfect and that's saying a lot when cooking with grassfed beef, which is very tough to cook with. This is our go to place next time we are in town. We were very tempted to eat there everyday during our trip. Only snag, and it does not merit subtracting a star, is I wish their kids menu wasn't so "kid menu-like". Everyone does some type of butter pasta or grilled cheese. What I'd love to see (from any restaurant) is just a half portion of the regular adult menu items. please!

Excellent innovative, fresh, local-ingredient menu. Extra long wait and service time, however (45 minutes for seating and another 45 minutes for two sandwiches to be delivered to table). Waiter said they get slammed for lunch about once a week and it's never the same day, so I'm not sure how a restaurant could prepare for this, except better communication would help, as most people don't have a full two hours to devote to lunch. Ice cream is some of the best I've ever had, rivaling authentic gelato in Italy.

My husband and I enjoyed our rehearsal dinner at Mia & Grace just over a year ago. The owners were very accommodating to our large and raucous group. The food was so unbelievable that even my family of foodies were impressed. Being from Chicago, it was the ideal setting for our picture perfect rehearsal dinner. We applaud Jamie and Jeremy for their style and class.

I wanted to love this place, but it just didn't reach its potential. Still, it's a touch of class and artful dining sorely needed in Muskegon, and it was a pleasant experience. It's a simple, elegant little restaurant that serves fresh, interesting food. We were there last week, my wife, mother, and grandmother and I. I had the Butcher's Plate, an appetizer, that was a full lunch worth of various duck meats and homemade breads. Everything was delicious, but a bit over salted. This was the dish that made me believe this place really has potential. The meats were excellently prepared and artfully arranged and the duck rillette was fantastic. The Orange and Fennel Cream soda sounded exactly like something I'd like, but the execution was poor and the flavor lacking. My wife's salad with chevre was small, simple, and decidedly average. My grandmother got the homemade hotdog, a decent homemade sausage but unremarkable, though the coleslaw that came with it was quite good. My mother got the chicken sandwich; again it was good, better than a chain place, but not great. The service was slow, despite the place being almost empty when we walked in, and it got worse as the place filled up at lunch time. The lack of a hostess, server, or any other kind of greeter at the front of the dining room makes for a very awkward first impression. There were friendly, but very slow, servers who rarely checked in, though often they were just chatting at the register, and the food took forever to come out of the kitchen. You definitely couldn't eat here on a lunch hour or if you were planning to make it to a show after. The menu was interesting and impressive, and I love the feel of the place: fresh, local, artisan and artsy, clever dishes, and some really whimsical ones, too. But the food didn't meet our expectations and the service was surprisingly poor. I'd say that this is a five-star idea, but at present, a two-star execution.

I LOVE this place! Muskegon needs more places like this. I love that it's down town. They have wonderful menu with vegetarian options. It's a little confusing your first time, because the menu is on the wall in the back and there was no one to greet you or to let you know this.

Great food prepared in responsible way. Sometimes the place is very noisy due to all the solid surfaces. Once when I was there I could not hear the waitress because of the background roar. In summer it was pretty warm inside. So if you are prepared for those two things it's a great place to eat. If I was only to review the food I'd give it a 5.

Just back over the weekend with my wife and son. We started out with the Duck Rillette, corn and jalapeno soup, and the Pretzel Knot. We had the salmon in parchment, the maple sausage and fried egg, and the buttermilk fried quail for entrees. The fried quail over waffles was quite the riff on your classic chick'n'waffles. The sausage/roll combo was again excellent - it is amazing the difference that a really good roll makes for these sausage sandwiches. The salmon in parchment was good, the rice accompaniment really made it, but is a stretch on the "local sourcing" concept (too bad the lake fish just aren't a good idea.......). Chocolate pecan pie with vanilla ice cream (hmm, crust a little tough) and massive piece of white chocolate blueberry cheesecake. The restaurant was full on a Saturday night. I really like the approach and style of these chefs. A fun, playful, and tasty approach to American food (yes, capital A).

Mia & Grace is a gem, with seriously high-level cooking producing fantastic food at reasonable prices. Local friends took us there, where we had superb gnocchi, housemade sausage with risotto, flattened chicken, and perfectly-cooked crusted salmon. The carrot soup (with roasted garlic and, I think, truffle oil?) was beyond words. We finished by sharing a heavenly Two-Tone Crème Brulee. Sadly, it seems that getting a liquor license in Muskegon is problematic, so we couldn't enjoy wine with our memorable meal. Nevertheless, Mia & Grace is well worth a special trip. I hope that the fortunate folks there recognize and support this treasure.

This place is one of the best restaurants that I've ever eaten in and it's in my home town. There's no way that Mia and Grace should be rated anything other than 5 stars. Let's all get on Yelp and review them!

Hands down the best restaurant in Muskegon. One of the best I've eaten at in Michigan. You can tell this place is a labor of love for the owners. You don't go here for the location (althought it's great to see promising small businesses moving back to downtown Muskegon.) You don't go here to be pampered by the waitstaff (they are pleasant and efficient, but the place is too mom-and-pop to afford over-staffing.) You go here for the food, and the food is delicious. It's too bad that most restaurants have to run assembly lines to stay in business. This place is an artist's workshop and I hope it stays that way.

Newly opened, this is a welcome addition to the downtown scene. It's only open for breakfast and lunch, but here's hoping that changes. I'd love to see what they'd do for dinner. It's in a charming old building (translate: no air-conditioning) and has been completely redone with style and class. Menu changes daily and is reminiscent of big-city eateries. I had a cup of the carrot soup with fresh ginger and coconut to start. Then a mixed green salad with pears, prosciutto, shaved cheese (asiago, maybe?), candied walnuts, etc. with a delicious dressing. It's a faily small place and I expect that as word gets out there may be a wait. But, for now, it's perfect. We got there at 1 and were seated almost immediately. Menu is on a big blackboard behind the counter, so we had to get up to go read it. But there's nothing on it that didn't sound extraordinary. We didn't opt for dessert, but a fellow diner at the next table raved about the key lime pie and a passing shortcake looked wonderful. Breads and desserts are all made on-site. Check it out next time you're in Muskegon!

The food was wonderful - I had the cold cucumber soup (YUM) and the pear and candied walnut salad was good. The bacon ice cream (yes, ice cream with bacon bits!) was interesting and actually quite good. The portions were rather small, and one of our waiters had an attitude. Otherwise, this place is certainly "happening," especially in a town like Muskegon. There are other better places in town, but do pay this restaurant a visit.
