The only place I'll eat Italian when I go out. Exceptionally friendly staff. Been going here since I was a toddler with my parents. It seems like the place has never changed and I like that. It makes it very comfortable. Try the mostacholi casserole style with the melted cheese on top! Yummm!

I LOVE DBP. It is one of the first places I go when I get to Monroe. It is home! I grew up on mosticcioli casserole and now only get it once or twice every 2 years! If I could find a way to ship it to California I would. The pasta fagioli is so yummy. This is true old world Italian food. No frills, no fusion, just plain ole' family favorite recipes. Really who cares what the decor looks like. Close your eyes and enjoy a taste of heaven.

This is one of those places you miss if you judge by outward appearances. On the inside, this is one of those places you would not visit again if you want classy atmosphere. It is just a place where "common" people can come without feeling a need to "dress up," relax and enjoy the food. We have eaten pizza in Italy and the pizza at Detroit Beach comes as close as I remember the Italian experience. Italians make fun of American pizza as being too thick and overloaded. DB makes great thin, crispy crust. I love the sauce, cheese and thinly sliced fresh mushrooms. We have visited several times and I admit I was slightly disappointed this past visit as the crust was a little over done and tough. We love the pizza so never order anything else.

The mosticcioli casserole is the best I've had in a restaurant. The pizza is great. Small, cramped place with tiny bathroom. Service is a bit slow for dine in or pick up. It's also hit or miss on quality of service. Pricing is more than fair and food makes up for other blemishes.

I ordered takeout last night on my way home from work, the mostacciolli is ok(kinda watery); not as good as I've heard, we would have liked more bread with the meal as well. Minestrone soup had good flavor but was puréed and neither of us liked that about it. Will prolly do take out again to try the pizza.

I gave this place a shot, despite curb appeal, because it is so close to home. I was not impressed. The Italian dressing was bad consistency it ruined the whole salad for me. It literally tasted like vinegar and black pepper. I also got the gnocchi meat sauce casserole which wasn't the size I expected at first but it was surprisingly filling enough for two. They were very generous with cheese on the casserole and garlic bread, but the "meat sauce" had hardly any meat in it at all. It was a decent dinner but I feel I could have made it better at home. Knowing it is a family owned diner that looks run down, I expected the food to be outstanding and it was not. Oh, and I almost forgot, they charged me slightly more than the prices listed on the menu of their facebook page. I felt a bit aggravated about that but I didn't say anything.

I used to live down the street from this place, and growing up in the area, everyone would rave and rant about how great Detroit Beach Pizza was. My parents, all my neighbors, and family would go on and on about how great it was. I realized their praise may be more in the fond memories rather than the food itself. The place is old and dumpy, but I have no qualms with that. It's the pizzeria equivalent of a dive bar. Their food is nothing special, but they do have an expansive menu. Don't get their pizza. Like someone said earlier, it is the bland, lacking sustenance pizza you can buy in the freezer section at the store. Their subs and mostaccoli are pretty good, and their prices are decent. Two people can eat there for under $15, and they are open pretty late. I just don't see what's so special about this place.

Detroit beach has a cult like following in the Monroe area. Literally every person I know in the area sings it praises. Truthfully I don't get it. The building is pretty rough, but that wouldn't bother me so much if the food was better. The pasta is all kind of over done and the sauce is nothing to write home about. The staff is pretty good and prices are affordable. Other than that it's just kind of there.

I have lived within sight of DBR&P for nearly 20 years. When we moved to this area, we were told they have the best pizza on the planet. I know that is very subjective, but after giving them several chances, we gave up on their pizza. New York style? Methinks not. More like a greasy sheet of cardboard. The rest of the dining experience leaves much to be desired as well. Every time we've been there (maybe half a dozen times) the place goes silent as we enter and we are stared at by the other diners like we just interrupted something, even after I had the hump on my back removed. And, the place is a real dump.. and not in a trendy chic kind of way either. I find it difficult to go out and pay for pasta and red sauce (or sour orange sauce in this case) when it can be made better at home for pennies, so an "Italian" restaurant needs to have something that makes it stand out in a crowd. DBR&P doesn't have that something. Service: Fail Food: Fail Atmosphere: Fail

Everybody else really likes this place, but I don't see it... or rather, I don't taste it. I had a pepperoni pizza that tasted no different than a thin-crust out of the freezer section of the grocery store. It had no substance to it. For the price it wasn't bad, but I'll definitely get something other than the pizza next time. My friends seemed much happier with their pastas and other dinners. It's dumpy, but I'm OK with that.

Very small dining area, awesome mostacolli. We usually order take out from here, as the dining space is extremely small and can get packed on the weekends. I recommend getting the baked mostacolli and loaf of Italian bread. The sauce is slightly sweet and spicy, and the dish is baked with a giant layer of ooey gooey mozzarella on top. It comes out bubbly and nicely browned on top. When I come back to the area from Green Bay, this is one of the first restaurants that I visit.

so i just ordered 2 pizzas.. the person who took my order gave me the wrong toppings. A waitress at this place told us that person is known for not being able to read their own writing. I called since i drove 20 min there and 20 home if my pizzas could be delivered? The same gentleman who took my order answered and laughed and said we would not deliver that far... also make sure to bring back the pizzas to make sure ur not lying..apparently that how mistakes are handled, with the customer being basically called a crook...so when i asked for any sort of credit for time and quarter tank of gas (like maybe 1 pizza) i was told sorry we dont do that sort of thing(credit). The waitresses were very polite and apologized many times but their hands were tied...All i ask is if this is how customers of your resturant shold and are treated? If so please be aware of my experience !

I really want to give 5 stars, I swear. They've got to have the best Italian food in the universe. It says something that I have to stock up on Gnocchi Casserole and put it in my freezer in Chicago. But let's call a spade a spade. It's a dive. As crowded as they are most nights, you'd think they could expand or remodel their hut. No matter to me. I'll put on my sneakers if I have to, to get the best pasta around. They are known through the downriver area for their pizza. Better New York-style than I've ever had in New York, but you'll think you've died and gone to heaven when you have their pasta dishes. My fave dish is going to be Gnocchi Casserole. (Potato dumplings in "meat sauce" tomato-based, covered with cheeses and browned.) That sauce is like nothing I've ever tasted. They use it in their Mostaccoli as well, if you're not up for the gnocchi. Served up with fresh, homemade Italian bread, and minestrone soup, it will sooth your troubled soul. The Chicken Cacciatore and Veal Parmesan are also worth a nod here. I'm always too full to ever consider dessert, so I have no insight as to their dessert menu, even though I've been dining there since I was a toddler. Overall, not a great place to entertain out-of-town guests, but good for casual family dining, takeout, a ballgame and dinner date, or smuggling back to Chicago for homesick nights.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
