Absolutely the best sweet rolls and pastries.

The fact that they accept credit cards through Square, but charge $5 for using it is highway robbery. I wouldn't mind them charging me the less than 3% fee that Square charges them, but $5 to purchase a donut?! Nope. Honestly, Sweetwater is 10 minutes away, open 24/7, takes credit cards with NO FEE, and has better donuts. Bonus? The staff at Sweetwater is always friendly. Can't say the same for Louie's.

The Best nut rolls ever! They are closed during some holidays so good luck getting your hands on some.

You haven't lived until you've tried one of Louie's NUT ROLLS. They are a must have if you are in Marshall. They are closed on Mondays. And closed around a few holidays, so don't make a special trip without checking first. I would have given them 5 stars if their service was more friendly. Not a happy crew. Maybe they get up too early!

We stopped in Louie's Bakery in Marshall, MI. What an utter disappointment! We walked in and the woman working behind the counter was actually in the back. She came out, didn't smile at all or greet us even after we said "hello" first! She said, "Is there something I can get you?" She acted like we were a total annoyance and that we were bothering her. Her tone was quite sharp and unprofessional, downright rude. We explained that we had never been there before and said that we had heard they made European style breads. She said, "No, we don't do that here." Again, rude tone, no smile, nothing. Horrible experience. Horrible "customer service". We left without purchasing anything as we were made to feel as if we weren't welcome. Sorry, Louie. You're not all that!

Amazing donuts (especially the chocolate). They are great place what else can you say? Im sure they are beyond super bad for you. I feel like with every bite its taking an hour away from my lifespan. I think its worth it in the end though :)

Anytime I roll into Marshall, I make a point to stop by Louie's. And oh, the nostalgia. The feeling of that place hasn't changed in 30 years... and that's an amazing thing. I've been all over the country, and Louie's stands alone with the best donuts I've ever had the privilege of eating. The chocolate covered donuts and nut rolls are completely unique and unparalleled. If you are in the Marshall area, it's a must-visit.

Giving 2 stars because they have very poor management, when they screw up your order (My daughters 1st birthday cake) they offered nothing not even an apology, within 10 minutes of leaving they post the cake on Facebook for half price. Not a good way to treat a long time customer.

I have heard fantastic things about Louie's. Personally, been there twice and not yet bought anything. First time, inventory was low. Second time, they informed me that they only accept cash and would need to charge a $5 surcharge to take a card. I just cannot justify a few dollars in donuts and $5 fee for the credit card alone. Too bad, I was committed to buying there every Wednesday morning for work, but work gives me a card NOT CASH.

Typically I do not write reviews but I was very annoyed with Louie's Bakery and still a bit annoyed about my experience. I went in to purchase four pies for a family meal that coming weekend and a few other items. I asked if they take credit cards because I did not see a sign saying they did but could see that they have a square credit card reader at the cash register. I was told they did but they charge $5 for the use of credit cards. I thought they meant a $5 minimum and the employee stated that it was a flat $5 fee no matter how much you purchase. So I was going to be charged $5 when I was going to spend almost $40 on baked goods?!?!? Even though square charges .275% per transaction. I understand small business need to cover the cost for running credit cards and I get that. Charge me a dollar to cover the cost and all would be well. But $5 is just rude and annoying. I will avoid them now and I have no problem traveling to Battle Creek for Sweetwater Donuts who take credit cards and are open 24/7. I just do not like the feeling of being taken advantage of as a customer, I can be very loyal if take care of and they have lost me with this price gouging.

Very good baked goods. Only had 2 items from them so far but may bump up to 5 if food is consistently good. In short, great bakery...drag that its cash only but i'll be back

I'm a tough critic when it comes to anything involving sweets. It's true. You may have read some of my reviews of bakeries/candy stores/ice cream parlors/sweet shops on here. I can be prett-tty brutal when I think a place that peddles sugar doesn't deliver. This is why I'd like to take the opportunity to give props to Louie's for having the best pies in the galaxy---if not the universe! I'll start with the lemon meringue pie. It's my all-time fav at Louie's--which is weird because I normally avoid lemon meringue at all costs anywhere else. I mean, c'mon. Think of the typical lemon meringue pie they serve at a Greek diner. It's a flavorless cardboard crust, some Jell-o instant lemon filling, and some soppy meringue that tastes lake pure egg whites. Then there's this gross, slimy perimeter of God-knows-what between the meringue and the custard that makes the meringue slide about like a roller skate on a sheet of ice. Disgusting. Then, there's Louie's lemon meringue. Oh Louie, how do you do it? Your filling is perfectly sweet-tart. I can see and taste the bits of lemon zest in your homemade curd, and your custard isn't dyed a disgusting sun-yellow but it remains a natural buttercream color. Delightful! Then there's your crust! And WHAT A CRUST! Is it shortbread? Is it phyllo dough? I can't tell, but whatever it is, it's sweet and it has flavor, almost cookie-like. And now we come to my favorite part. The meringue. To tell you the truth, Louie, I'm not even sure you can legally call this meringue. I think you're lying to all of us and you're really just making some homemade marshmallow fluff, piling 5 or 6-inches on top of the filling, and then lightly scorching it to a shiny, glistening brown. Is that what you're doing, Louie? Is it? Are you fooling all of us? Because that meringue sure doesn't taste anything like beaten egg whites. It's too sweet, too characteristically vanilla, too fluffly, too CREAMY. Louie's other cream and meringue pies follow the same equation. They're unbelievable unless you try them. Oh, and then there's this peanut danish that Louie makes that is apparently world-reknowned. It's an unrealistically tasty snack, but give me a slice of that meringue pie!

Louie's is the beginning, the middle and the end of doughnuts. Period. No discussion. Thank You.

I have been eating Louie's donuts, cakes, and rolls for almost 30 years and my family has been coming for even longer. I absolutely love this bakery and (even though I live hours away) will make a special visit each time I am in town. Thank you so much for consistently providing quality donuts over the years.

Louie's always delivers a great product period. Get there early cause they sell out.

We went here because it was on the Top 10 doughnuts in Michigan list. A little underwhelming. Tried a long john, which had a really good filling and a nice chocolate frosting, and a chocolate frosted donut with bacon on top. The frosting was great in both but the donut and long john were a little too spongy for my taste. The cash only policy is also kind of a drag. I really wanted to try a buzz bomb, but was told they were out until September. It would seem like such a popular item wouldn't be so seasonal.
