A new restaurant that is obviously still getting things organized (minimal decor, no liquor licenses); however despite being nearly a full house, the food was fast and good. The complimentary chips and salsa were good, the salsa was flavorful (a bit on the spicy side, but not hot). I had the Camerones al mojo de ajo, my partner had Camerones al diabla. We were pleased with the amount of large shrimp in each dish. The child who hates everything said the chicken nuggets were the best she has ever had (they looked like standard gross breaded blobs to me, but take it from the pickiest kid on the planet, they are good). Both the adult dishes were served with a modest portion of rice, and flour tortillas. My partners also came with refried beans. The place was very busy and the noise volume made it somewhat difficult to converse. Overall the location is amazing, beautiful view of Superior for some of the seating, courteous service, and a good meal.

Stopped in while passing through town. The food was fantastic, the Margarita's were delicious and the view from the patio was beautiful. Loved everything about this place!

Nice atmosphere. Long wait be seated and to get our food. However it was quite busy and we didn't have reservations. The view outside made the long wait pleasant. It was a gorgeous day. The staff were nice and constantly apologized for the wait. Food was ok, but my husband liked his dish.

Great location on the water. The dining room is really comfortable and open. Cheap and tasty lunch specials. Free chips and salsa. Great service. I will definitely come back here again. And maybe now that they have a liquor license I will get a margarita next time!

So much food for reasonable prices! Lunch or dinner! Great for vegetarians and vegans! Free chips and salsa, amazing chihuahua cheese. (No they don't milk chihuahuas). Love coming here. Right a over lower harbor with a great view and outdoor balcony seating. Great for groups or couples. No liquor, yet. Mexican sodas available. Tasty tasty.

Love this restaurant. Great food. Great staff. Great view of the harbor. The fajitas nachos are my go to. We eat here more than any other restaurant in town.

Didn't expect to eat Mexican food on this visit to Marquette, but our local friends suggested it. Apparently Sol Azteca is new in town but they have scored a beautiful corner location. The staff is friendly. Very authentic feel and knowledgeable about their food. We tried a combination platter. It was plenty to share and deliciously filling! Great spot, good food, beautiful view, worth a visit for sure!

I love this place! Very family friendly, and very reasonable priced too. The kids got a kick out of the smiley faced French fries they have. I love the complimentary chips and dip as well.

This was the first time eating at Sol Azteca, for me and my better half. From the moment we walked in, we noticed that nearly all of the tables in the place were filled with people, and we had three parties ahead of us. However, it didn't take too long for us to be seated in a very spacious and comfortable booth. The hostess took a while to greet us, but then we noticed she was also helping the wait staff... super busy for a Monday night. That being said, the service for the duration of our meal was fast, friendly and very helpful. There are a lot of options on the Sol Azteca menu, which seem to accommodate anyone and everyone, including those with dietary restrictions. I felt a little overwhelmed looking at all of the choices, mostly because I was starving and couldn't make up my mind. Thankfully, our waiter didn't take too long to get to our table with chips and salsa. To start, we ordered the guacamole as a side to our chips, along with two combination plates. Both the salsa and guacamole were fresh and flavorful. Between the two of us, we had the chile relleno, quesadilla, hard taco, and enchilada. Everything on our plates were tasty, our only gripe was the unusual cheese used in the dishes. This wasn't your typical queso fresco or even the three-cheese blend you'd find in most Mexican joints. This white cheese seemed a little out of sorts, considering that all the other ingredients were really good and fresh. Tip: Spend the extra buck and get the grilled steak instead of the beef that comes standard in their combos. It's worth the extra buck. The Pros: Flavorful dishes. Mexican bottled sodas. Generous portions. Friendly and helpful staff. Great dining area. Incredible view. Fast service. The Cons: No beer or alcohol (yet). The mystery white cheese. I'll definitely go back to Sol Azteca, especially when they have their liquor license sorted out. Overall experience was great!

So delicious. Everything I've had there is incredible. They are super friendly and it's very fast plus you get free chips and salsa and the salsa is delicious. Definitely is a must when you're in marquette.

I had the Carnitas (pork) tacos. The meal came with 3 tacos, rice and beans. The tacos were very good. Rice and beans were as good as most Mexican restaurants. I had a margarita on the rocks. Decent. I like mine a bit stronger but it was as good as most Mexican restaurants. Next time, I'd try the top shelf Tequila. I ordered queso with our chips. Very good. We were here on a Thursday night. It was busy. Our wait was about 20 minutes.

Walk away, Many locals will give this a good review, Unfortunately the area has never experienced authentic Mexican cuisine. Worst Service, Bland Food, Great building and view, What a waste, better off at Taco Bell Franchise gone bad, Disappointed !!!

Sat on the terrace outside on a nice evening. Server was kind and the food was worth the wait, didn't take long either. Had the beef burrito fajitas with a side of beans, rice, sour cream, cheese, and fresh shredded lettuce. Genuine ingredients made for a delicious meal. We'll be back!

Excellent service view and food. It's rare to find a good clean Mexican restaurant and this is it.

We had a late lunch here and it was great! Kids ate every last bite of their chicken burritos, luckily ordered from the lunch menu as the waitress had my 11 yr old set up with the $11 something something which would have ended up being exactly what I found on the lunch page for a whopping 6 bucks! You don't order a kid the expensive chicken burrito and then kick out and off everything but the chicken. Especially when his little sister is across from him saying "yep yep, that's what I want too!" Unless of course you're hiking up someone's bill...hoping for a much higher tip... Anways, that aside, we also had the queso and a couple of bowls of salsa. The chips we're crispy and fresh, still hot even! Steak fajitas were great and my chimichanga was very good as well. Can't wait to return, this will definitely be a place we add to our restaurant list of must haves whenever we're in town!

Here on a Sat. afternoon after lunch hour. The service is horrible. We have been waiting 20 minutes and the hostess had to take our drink order, although there are waiters milling around. Based on this I will not be back. The hosted. Also took our food order. Worst Mexican restaurant experience ever!

The food is great, and quite authentic. The service is good, and you couldn't ask for a better view of Marquette! The price is right and the portions are pretty big! I definitely recommend this place if you're ever in Marquette and are hungry for something more than a pasty ;)

The food here is very good - of what arrived at the table. Problem with my visit was we were a group of 15 and were assigned a server whose first day was three/four days prior...with no additional assistance. Not only were orders wrong, but orders were not brought out together so the eldest in our group was served her dish after most everyone else had finished. One order never arrived, several others had to be reordered and we had two orders of fajitas, one never received the tortillas even after asking several times only to have them arrive when they were done eating. One ordered beef tacos only to be served chicken even after he repeatedly asked for beef upon ordering - ate them because at least he received his food! We asked for a manager to help fix our order problems. A woman who never identified herself tried to get food delivered to our table, but she too, kept bringing the wrong items. Since this is the UP, I kept our complaints within the group. We felt terrible for the new server. But seriously, the management here really should work on table assignments according to how big a group is. This young man should have at least had a helper! Our visit was at 5pm on a Sunday, July 12, 2015.

FYI: I don't drink, but THEY NOW HAVE A LIQUOR LICENSE The view is probably the best you will find in any Mexican Restaurant int the state, and it helps that it's in my favorite city in the state. No matter the weather, the view is worth it. The food is great, the service is typical Mexican Restaurant service.... good, but they seem to not realize that drink refills are part of the deal, but they are pleasant and the food makes up for it. I had the Enchilada's Supreme and my wife had the Steak Fajita's and both of them were good enough to make you eat way more than any healthy human being should. If you are in Marquette and looking for good food, a beautiful view, and you are on a budget...... EAT HERE

So far so good! Sol Azteca shows promise of being the hottest new venue in Marquette. The only problem? They don't have a liquor license! I was visiting from Chicago, and I wanted to meet here with a friend. She's super awesome and always on the go. I was hoping I could get a few drinks in her so she'd slow down for a minute. No such luck, she showed up in her pickup truck with horse feed in the back. Forecast called for rain! We didn't order much. We just got chips and dip. The queso con espinacas was tasty and strongly mirrored what other chain restaurants offer for an appetizer. The view of the harbor was incredible. I wish they had just made the whole back wall a giant window. I cannot believe how much the waterfront has changed since I graduated NMU in 1999. Seems like Marquette is starting to look like a trendy little town! I have tentatively made plans to visit next year with one of my friends from Chicago. I really hope I get the chance to experience Sol Azteca in full swing!

Beautiful restaurant. We loved sitting out on the deck on a perfect summer day. Chips and salsa plentiful and delicious. Enchiladas and burritos very good. Prices very reasonable. Kids menu was an excellent value--my kids eat a lot and were stuffed. Service was the fastest we've had in this city!

I went back to Sol Azteca with friends a couple of weeks ago, and my review of the food is still the same--some items are really good, and others are so so. However, they have gotten their liquor license, and I wanted to add that they do make a very good margarita. I went for the top shelf, and it was delicious with the tequila flavor upfront, not disguised by a cheap lemon-lime mix. Since it was early April, of course, we ate inside. (Not dissing Marquette, but you don't do outdoor cafes there until probably June.) The interior is gorgeous! Just like Latitude downstairs, Sol Azteca takes advantage of the beauty of the old building, showing off the brick and steel structure. It's a nice space with lovely views of Lake Superior through the big windows. A Mexican place like this is not what most people would expect in The Great White North, and it's a nice experience. We'll continue to go back.

Sol Azteca has certainly gotten on the right track! The Loco is still on the menu and we just ignore it. I guess someone out there enjoys it! The margaritas are huge here. Sol Azteca has become super busy since obtaining their liquor license so plan on waiting for a table because they do not take reservations. There are plenty of seats by the bar while you wait though.

In what might be the best looking restaurant setting in town, a Mexican eatery now sits. They've only been open for about 6 weeks, and reviews so far have been mixed. It seems fitting that my feelings about are mixed as well. The initial service is fast and friendly. The follow-up was a little wanting. I had the Parrillada Fajitas (a sort of Barbecued mix-up of different meats) which promised chicken, pork, steak, chorizo, and shrimp. I'm not sure if there was any chorizo or grilled pork in there, but the steak, chicken, and shrimp were all ok. A little overcooked and under seasoned, maybe, but not bad. I felt like a squeeze of lime and a drizzle of hot sauce might improve the moisture and flavor. We waited for about 5 more minutes for our server to come back by (who only had one other table at the time) and asked for these additions, which took a little while, again... That was kind of disappointing. The house made hot sauce was really good, though! My cohort had some cheese enchiladas, and after trying to discern what kind of cheese she was not fully enjoying was, we asked. "Um... American... 'white' cheese...?" was the response. Not the answer we were hoping for, but not overly surprising, either. All in all, this is the type of Am-Mex place you find in strip malls all over the country. And that's fine. When they get their liquor license, I'm sure you'll be able to have a margarita in a fish-bowl, made with a 'mix'.

I have been there several times and have never been disappointed. Fast, good service and fresh food. I have had fajitas, quesadillas, nachos, and the tacos. Everything was fabulous. The guacamole is outstanding. Finally a great Mexican restaurant in Marquette!

We ate lunch here a few days ago. They just opened a couple of weeks ago, so I understand they may need a little time to work out the kinks. They have a large menu, which I think they should cut down to make it more manageable for the kitchen to get orders out quickly. The server who was waiting on us either had too many tables to handle, was inexperienced, or just slow. It took a while for her to come to our table, even longer to take our order. The food came out pretty quickly however the presentation was sorely lacking. The food was just ok. It lacked seasoning and flavor. The guacamole seemed puréed, which was weird. Over all it wasn't bad, and the view was unbeatable. If they work at it I think this place could be a winner. I look forward to trying it again when they've had a little more time to improve.

Yum. Went here on prom and graduation weekend.. Still sat us quickly. They had call ahead for prom. Genius! They where turning tables quickly. Our waiter was so unbelievably hysterical. With such a huge weekend... The place was clean and no wait staff standing around. I lived the service. We had one plate that took longer with apologies. Had this not happened it would be 5 star. We almost finished by the time last plate arrived. The food... Was crazy good. 6 different plates in our group. All looked and the ones I tasted were so good. I had a chipotle chicken on this cheese rice. It was amazing. Quac was good. A bit bland but fresh. No liqueur license yet..... And we know how important that is! Not their fault. Even crazy busy I was able to move about freely. The elevator was out of service... They are on 2 floor... But there is a ramp outside!!!! The view and good were awesome.

We came here for the first time today. The food was pretty average and reminded me of Los Tres Amigo. We were seated at a dirty table which we dismissed, hoping it was an oversight. Our server gave us free chips and salsa which was great but I wish we would have had napkins to go with it. We ordered the chorizo queso dip appetizer which was yummy but we had to ask for plates as well as our napkins. When they delivered out entrees we had to again get up and ask for silverware as they had never brought them and were unable to flag someone down. I had the chile rellenos which was pretty good as well as the beef taco (lunch special 1). It came with refried beans, guacamole, tomato, and lettuce. The fresh veggies were great and the beef taco was standard. The decor was very minimal which did not provide any sense of coziness in the restaurant. On a positive note my 5 year old nephew informed our server that it was his birthday and they did bring a complimentary dessert which was nice. Hopefully because this place is new they will be able to turn the negatives around because Marquette could use a great Mexican restaurant.

I'm from Texas and I was there visiting my now fiancé back in January, and we both love Mexican food and heard that this place just opened. I have to say that it was good. Surprisingly pretty good.

The entrance was a little hard to find. It's above another restaurant and we walked through the other restaurant to get to this one. Food was good. Complimentary chips and salsa of course. They give u plenty of salsa which is rare. I had the lunch chicken fajitas and they were very good and reasonably priced. Dining are is nice and spacious and several tables have a nice view of Lake Superior. We have the churros for dessert and they were good as well. I would order them again. My only complaint is that there were flies attacking us during our meal. They do have outside seating, but we were inside.

Very much enjoyed our dinner here. Free fresh chips and salsa, and the server offered us more chips when our basket was getting low. Our entrees were tasty, the drinks were reasonably priced, and of course the views were amazing. Surprisingly busy for a Monday night, but there were some large groups that were enjoying their time together so you can't fault the restaurant for that. Overall, a nice place to eat and a lovely place to see the harbor.

Food was authentic and delicious. My husband had carne asada tacos and loved them. I had the veggie combo, enchilada and burrito were very good; the tostada had too much sour cream and not much of anything else so I would request no sour cream next time. The chips and salsa also delicious. We will definitely go back and hope they get a liquor license soon! We sat outside on the deck and enjoyed the views. The inside looks nice too.

In 36 years I have never been to a Mexican place where when ordering a combo it literally came with chicken and cheese on everything and no vegetables, sour cream, guacamole, pico or anything closely associated with a Mexican dish. I mentioned it to my server Allison and she looked at me like I was crAzy. I was thinking maybe she had never been anywhere else to have a healthy perspective, because this is most definitely unorthodox. I wouldn't consider going here again.

I've been here a couple of times now, usually when I have company in town. Now that the liquor license has been granted (more due to bureaucratic delays than the fault of the owner) I see myself coming here a lot more often. Even without a good margarita, I always leave here happy. The food is tasty, fast, and very reasonably priced during lunch, and the servers are attentive. Oh, did I mention the view? Can't wait for summer when they open the outside deck seating again!

First time in Marquette and we wanted to have Mexican. Sol Azteca had great reviews so we decided to dine there. We felt the dining experience would have been better if we didn't have to wait ten minutes for our chips and salsa. Our waitress lacked personality and attentiveness. We had to ask for more chips, salsa, napkins, water, etc. she never once asked if we needed anything. The food was alright, definitely a different taste to true Mexican. Although, I really enjoyed the guacamole! Just wish we had the service that is expected when you go to a restaurant.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
