Grace and Company, the restaurant was renamed as Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar. Later the company and the Applebee's concept changed hands with Abe Gustin and John Hamra who started the first Applebee's franchise restaurant in Kansas City.

We wanted to grab breakfast sandwiches on our way out of town but unfortunately we missed breakfast by 3 minutes! So we went with the beef & cheddar sandwiches. They are like Arby's but a bit better! We also got a combo and the fries were on par with McDonald's. If you like fast food and want to get something that's not from an international chain, definitely stop here!

The food is good, but a bit pricy. The food was tasty, don't get me wrong. I just feel like you don't get very much for what you pay. The cheddar fries are pretty choice, as well as the chicken strips. The bottom line is, it is a family owned business that uses fresher ingredients than the traditional local fast food chains. Although I was skeptical at the name at first, don't knock it till you try it.

The food is delicious, the cheesy fries and shakes are the best part of any visit. Lost stars for the service though. I've been going to this location for years for my occasional cheesy fry fix, and the service has always been great! But the last few times I've gone I've had the same cashier, Jessica is her name I believe, and every time she is extremely abrupt and unfriendly. She always seems bored, uninterested, and I've even heard her being rude to other employees. Yuck! Definitely ruins the experience and makes dining in unpleasant.

Me and the old lady were there on June 5th - 2014. The fries were extremely salty. When I asked who was so heavy handed with the salt the cashier said she didn't know yet only 4 people were working at the time. Overall the food was mediocre but you'd be better off going to McDonald's for selection - taste and price. Old lady had the cheddar fries but they were just covered with common (soft) kraft soft cheese - rather bland. The staff were listless as if they were hungover and bored. IF you like nostalgia then this place is fine - the cats meow.

I was ecstatic when I arrived in town and saw there was a Beef-a-Roo! If you've visited or lived in Rockford or Loves Park, IL, you know that Beef-a-Roos are plentiful, delicious, and wonderful! They're SO much better than your typical McD's/BK burger franchise! I have to admit that I was disappointed with both the lack of "theme" and small menu at this location. What gives Marquette?! I ultimately settled for a Grilled Chicken Sandwich Combo (+ medium fry and drink). The chicken was surprisingly juicy. The bun was grilled on the inside and also included some iceberg lettuce and two slices of tomato. The fries were hot but weren't anything special. While I would still go here over the bigger chains, this version of Beef-a-Roo doesn't come with the same nostalgia or menu that we have in Illinois. Oh, Marquette... you just don't know what you're missin'. :(

Best fast-food in MQT. (except for maybe Togos... but that's different) It's like a beacon as you arrive into town. You must stop in and get the cheddar fries, but the sandwiches, and burgers are great too. Fantastic selection of shakes/malts too.
(5)Lynn M.
While I've never been a fan of the food, the malts and shakes are worth the stop. Mmmmm, delicious malt!

Beef-A-Roo or what us South Marquette folk call Barf-N-Chew, is actually a fast food joint with better food quality. This place used to serve wine and beer too, but not sure about now. I always stopped here for a cheddar fry on my way to South Beach. On the other occasions, I usually went with the steak sandwich, chicken, or burgers. My family live right up the street on Genesee so how can I knock a place that has been a part of my childhood.

I start thinking about the cheese fries as soon as I cross the bridge on my way up to Marquette. Great local fast food joint and very hospitable service.

My roommates and I were able to enjoy an evening of fine food the other day at Beef-A-Roo. Having lived in the Marquette area for a few years, we were always intrigued by the establishment and seeing as two of us recently graduated and everyone would be going their separate ways this summer we felt it would be an appropriate time to celebrate the occasion and experience the restaurant. Upon arrival, we were pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness and appearance/layout of the facility. It would be a nice place to enjoy a family meal. We appreciated the local "flavor" that was present and this was inspired by such things as plaques representing the mascots of area high schools which helped to showcase local pride . The cashier welcomed us immediately upon entering, and was very prompt in providing us with service. All of the employees were very friendly and appeared to be proud of their work. The menu was quite impressive. With a name like Beef-A-Roo, we figured that the menu would consist mostly of burgers and other beef-based sandwiches. However, there were multiple other options, including salads, chicken sandwiches and entrees, ham and cheese sandwiches, and many other items and side dishes as well. They also have a fairly impressive breakfast menu and the next time we are in the area we will have to give that a try. Seeing as it was graduation weekend and we celebrated the night before, we were in the mood for something greasy to settle our stomachs. We all ordered burgers, and I opted for the double cheeseburger. Reading other reviews on this site and by word of mouth, many people have recommended ordering the cheddar fries and everyone in our party chose to get these as well. I also ordered a strawberry shake and one of my other roommates ordered a chocolate malt while everyone else opted for soda pop. Everyone in our party was a little put off by the price. It wasn't expensive per se, but probably a little pricier than similar fast food chains. The burger, fries, and shake that I ordered came out to around $12 and most of us spent in that range. Like I said, nothing over the top, but we did expect to pay a little less. We chose to sit at a booth and began to dig into our food. The cheddar fries were good, nothing too crazy, but they were the salty and cheesy kick we were craving. They do offer jalapenos at the condiment bar and I chose to add some to the fries which I believe really helped. If I could make a suggestion for the restaurant, I would advise putting the cheddar fries into a basket rather than the cup that they are currently served in. It was a little difficult to grab some of the fries at the bottom, and I did hear another customer at the restaurant making a similar "complaint". Now on to the burger...It was a good size and was quite tasty. It may have been a little overcooked, but the taste was comparable to a McDonald's patty or other fast food chain. The onions on it were cooked perfectly and really helped with the taste. I also added jalapenos to mine which probably helped too. It was a good but not great burger but nonetheless did hit the spot. I believe that my strawberry shake really stole the show though; my roommate enjoyed his chocolate malt as well. I would recommend going with one of these two on a visit. Overall, we had an enjoyable experience at Beef-A-Roo. The service that we received was excellent and we enjoyed the atmosphere as well. The food was good, not great, and we did spend a little bit more money than we had originally anticipated. However, I would not hesitate to recommend Beef-A-Roo to anyone; don't be scared of the name like we originally were!
