First time staying at a B&B, so not much expectations going in and a little hesitant on what to expect. But I was BLOWN away! My husband and I booked on the phone and it was easy. We called about 2 months in advance to book our weekend for beginning of August and they were almost already booked. We decided on suite 302 and we were warned of a spiral staircase. There was a deposit involved which was a bit steep and then the entire bill was due 10 days prior. The Brigadoon is such a cute place with the yellow and green, very bright and inviting on the outside. The inside is a bit darker though and felt heavier with the decor. We were greeted at the front desk and were told breakfast is from 800am-930am, while dessert is from 800pm-900pm. The journey to our suite 302 was a bit long and there are no elevators or help from staff to carry your bags. So my lovely husband got the task of going up two flights of stairs and then a spiral staircase to then get to our room. Suite 302 is nice though because you are in your own wing of the house and it is private. The room was clean, but had a strange smell to it. My husband thought it was moth balls, but I couldn't put my finger on it (or should I say nose?). Once you got in the room you got used to the smell, but I smelled it each time I walked in. Air conditioning unit only in the master bedroom side while sitting area doesn't have AC, so you could tell the difference in temp. There is a fireplace in the sitting room area, but in the dead of summer wasn't put to use. The amenities were nice with a fridge, microwave, and wine glasses. The bed was a king and pretty comfy. Flat screen TV and mini balcony. I say mini because you are sitting within the arch of the roof. If we were any bigger or taller I don't think we could sit out there comfortably. But the view was nice and able to see Lake Huron. Again the room looked and felt very clean. But then again the decor was heavy with reds, greens, and wallpaper. The bathroom had marble floors, which again was a nice touch. The breakfast was amazing, so so so amazing, I cannot say it enough! Homemade yummy french toast one day and then a quiche another morning. They always have coffee and tea anytime and during the afternoon cookies were out. Dessert we got to enjoy was cheesecake and a very decent piece. It was nice that they have separate dining room tables, so you don't have to awkwardly sit with other guest (I know I am more anti-social than most). The B&B is a great location being only 3-5 minute walk from the shops and food of Mackinaw City. Very comfortable and welcoming place to stay. Of course it is a bit more expensive, but with the service and food as well as great location it is worth it. A couple cons (I know I am picky): They do have wifi, but I do not think the wifi was strong enough to get to our room on the third floor. Also no great cell phone charges on the sides of the beds, I had to plug my phone in the cove of the sitting area. The keys to the room are charming, but our door kept sticking and I gave up each time I tried to use it. Lastly, having to pay for the bill 10 days in advance of your stay is a bit much. I know there are only 8 rooms, but if something terrible happened and you couldn't make it, then you are essentially screwed out of a big chunk of change.

My husband and I just got back today from our new "home away from home," the Brigadoon. We'd stayed there for two nights to celebrate our 1-year wedding anniversary. It truly felt like our home- away-from- home... from their extremely gracious and hospitable staff, to our cozy room with all of the amenities we had hoped for (and then some- heated marble floor bathrooms, jacuzzi tub, rain shower head, gas fireplace, comfortable bed, stereo with a soothing piano cd- fitting for the charming victorian theme), to the delicious breakfasts, the great location, and the impeccable condition and decor of the entire home- we were thoroughly impressed and found it challenging to pull ourselves away! This was our first B&B experience and it exceeded our expectations. We even had one staff member (Lorie) offer to serve us dessert (after hours when the kitchen was already "closed") when we mentioned we missed it that night due to there not being an 8pm ferry from Mackinack Island to the city - so sweet of her and she was genuinely glad to serve it to us- giving us options and sweetly obliging with a smile! I highly recommend staying in the 3rd floor suites for a romantic getaway- we were in 301- the turret room- very spacious and cozy all at once. We felt the value we got for the (discounted short- notice) price, was incredible! We will be back again and again, and are also recommending Brigadoon to all of our friends!
