Wow, I'm impressed. For being by Lake Macatawa and off the side of the road, I'm impressed by the food quality of this place. First of all, everything was good. Usually... I find something wrong with one of the portions of my meal- whether the food being over/under done, the presentation of it, etc. But, this place was surprisingly good! We went here tonight for my mom's birthday. As my parents remembered going here 20 years ago (yeah, the restaurant has been around for a while), we opted to go here, just for the memories. Off the road next to the marina, when you walk into the restaurant, you're greeted with the view of the marina and the lake, a gorgeous sight at dinner time. We decided to split three entrees. We split the almond crusted walleye, the bbq pork pizza, and the "piper special combo" of beef tenderloin on skewers. The almond crusted walleye was GOOD. It was cooked just right (not too dry or overdone), with this great almond topping and some type of almost sweet and sour dressing to go with it. The presentation of it was great too. As they are known for their pizzas, we opted to get one. It reminded me of a NY style pizza..- more of a thinner crust, but it was so good. Not too greasy, a great size, and the bbq pork (with jalapenos! and peppers) were distributed thoroughly throughout the pizza, making the whole dish a pretty light dish. The Piper combo came with a soup (which I forgot the name, but it had kind of a beef broth with some types of greens and beans in it. really good) and the beef tenderloin was marinated in this type of asian/soy sauce/sesame dressing which was SO GOOD! It was cooked pretty perfectly. I mean, the meat wasn't the highest grade, but man, it was cooked well. The shrimp and other veggies (bok choy, etc), were good as well as they had type of sweet glaze over it. SO GOOD. For dessert, they brought out a special dessert for my mom's birthday: a type of mulatto cake with coffee gelato in the inside, where they caramelized (like a flan) the top. Oh, it was rich and good. What was cool, was that the presentation was great, and they had these "coffee beans" around the cake...which were really chocolate! Love it! I was thoroughly surprised to find this restaurant to be so good, as it was kind of hidden off in the middle of the Holland area. The service was great as well- my mom kept asking him the size of all the portions, and he knew them- didn't have to go find someone to ask or anything- he didn't even hesitate. haha. I was slightly annoyed though as how often the water was refilled. Every time I sipped, someone would refill it..which is nice, but I don't take huge gulps! Besides that, this place was great. We walked around the restaurant (great and beautiful flowers all around) and out to the marina after dinner. What a great place. The customers who comprised this restaurant were mostly... old..but, what do you expect, who ELSE can own a yacht AND go out to dinner on a Tuesday night? haha.

Great View. Almost every seat in the restaurant has a view of the marina and lake. Food was good. I had a baked fish (Corbia, maybe?), that was on a bed of asparagus, and was topped with a herb cheese and serrano ham chips. My wife had a pizza which was ok. She removed a topping and added basil to the pizza and they still charged her extra for the basil. The mussels as a starter were ok. The mussels were in a thin wine sauce (not very tasty), and the mussels were smaller than the PEI mussels I am used to. I guess you just need to know what to order as the food is hit or miss.

Friends recommended this restaurant to us. Given the fairly poor showing of high qualify restaurant fare in Holland we were excited to finally dine here. Awesome views even in the dead of winter. Ambience in the restaurant was great and it is very clean with a great atmosphere. Excellent wine selection and drink menu. We started with some creative martinis and were very impressed. The service was excellent and prompt. Food selection was outstanding. I had the salmon and my wife had the walleye. Both were top of line meals. Great presentation, outstanding mix of flavors and tastes, well prepared and great portions. I have to admit that The Piper has just taken over the #1 spot on our opinion of best restaurants in Holland.

This is an annual stop when on vacation. We have found the entrees to be hit or miss. Value on entrees is fair. The featured special is the best value. Pizzas are a good option to fall back on. Wine list is decent and there are a few good deals. Kids menu runs from basic chicken fingers to some eclectic items. The kid beef and cheese quesadilla was greasy and not very cheesy. On this most recent visit we had the best service of any outing during the last 5 years. Go here for the outdoor balcony (max 4 people per table) or lake view but don't expect to be wowed by the food.

This is a small town, so it can't be expected that they would not be open too late. My family came here for my sister's birthday dinner, and we were quite happy with our choice of venue. It's got a nice waiting area with a small billiards table. We were welcomed when we arrived and were seated at our table immediately. We started off with a bottle of pinot noir, and started off with the lamb appetizer and the mini crab cakes. The portions were small, but it was enough to whet our appetites. I had the bistro steak that was served over spinach and mashed potatoes. They switched mine and my sister's, but it was still good, a little more cooked than I would have liked mine since I asked for medium and my sister had gotten medium well. The desserts though were delicious! We had the pumpkin creme brulee, banana foster, and the apple pie cheesecake. The service here is really friendly. The prices were very reasonable. It will be one of the spots I could see myself coming to more often when I am in town.

Honestly I got lost on South Shore Rd. and had my mom in the passenger seat hoping for a seafood-y type meal LOL. We came upon Piper. It was a gorgeous albeit too sunny night but the restaurant has a nice "bar" section overlooking the restaurant and the sailboats in the marina and the Lake. The menu was way better than we expected and my mom was repeating to me that she was in "heaven." So that's good because I got some serious credit when it wasn't even deserved for finding it!! Great menu. Awesome Michigan Martini that has a nice "bite" to it and friendly professional waiters. Our waitress was fab and was there only when we really needed her. Try the sweet potato fries as an app. and then you can't go wrong with the mussels or the entrees - pasta looked great as did pizzas and so we'll have to do another visit.

A great open dining area with a nice view out to the Harbor. Good food that might be a tad pricy for Holland, but leaves nothing to be desired. I had an almond crusted walleye served over mashed potatoes that was crunchy on the outside and perfectly cooked. Mashed potatoes were great too. I couldn't really find the "orange butter and capers" as advertised on the menu listing of the item, but still no complaints about the dish itself. Everybody I was with was equally pleased with their meal. Can't wait to come back in Summer!

It's a little old school (kind of 80's), but the food is really great and the views are unique. Good wine list, excellent dining service. Will return.

The doesn't quite hit the mark on all dishes but overall it is good. Try to eat outside and enjoy the water view.

My boyfriend and I arrived in Holland, MI 20 minutes before our supposed dinner cruise was suppose to takeoff and learned that the dinner cruise was cancelled. We had just driven almost 3 hours from Chicago to make the cruise. After getting over the shock of the cancellation without notice, we asked if they could point us to a nice place in town for dinner since we were all dressed up. They recommended going to The Piper. We called immediately and got reservations for the next seating. We arrived to find convenient and amble parking. We were greeted by Kara the lead hostess. We told her of our cancelled dinner cruise and she immediately had us seated the best table in the restaurant over looking the dock and the lake during sunset. Taylor, our server, immediately recommend the wine specials and served us a very needed smooth bottle of red wine. We started with the calamarie with the mayo dipping sauce. Next came the side salad for me and the corn chowder for my boyfriend. For the main, my boyfriend had the bistro steak with side of surf ( 2 prawns) and the truffle fries. He did not leave a morsel on his plate. I had the Mushroom Grano risotto with brocollini. It was quite tasty and the brocollini was not over cooked. It went nicely with our red wine. BTW....their dinner rolls are so good! We finished with a wonderful history of the area from Kara and recommendations of things to do when we return to Holland and coffee and dessert. Overall, the Piper is a nice gem of a restaurant hidden on Lake Macatawa with beautiful views and excellent fare. The staff is amazingly nice and makes you want to come back. I totally recommend this restaurant if you are in area. I know we will be back and soon. Thank you Kara and Taylor for making what could have been a horrid beginning to a long weekend into a relaxing, elegant and enjoyable beginning to adventuresome weekend trip in Michigan.

Always, always good. And great service and attitude. Appreciate the consistency.

Beautiful setting, go for sundown, service was good and the Walleye was great.

This place has a great view and ok food. I have been there two times now and both times I have heard the chef screaming and cussing from the kitchen. WILL NOT RETURN !
(2)Tony G.
Three stars for now - this place might be really good but since they were closed when we stopped by, we don't know. Maybe they're under seasonal hours or something, but there are no signs and they seemed to be closed really early (9pm)

Update: Looks like they are now permanently closing. No surprise. --------------------------------------- The restaurant was open. I called to place a takeout order. The GM said they were "too busy" and hung up. Twice. That's all I really need to write but I'll expand... The person who represented herself as the general manager is unable to effectively take a takeout order..."our kitchen is overflowing, sorry" click (hang up). Maybe I missed something...we are staying a few hundred yards away...let's try again. Call... answered..."Yes...I am the general manager...Our kitchen is overflowing, not taking your order", click hang-up. This is a Tuesday night. This so-called GM doesn't understand the basics of food service or how a food line works. We would have waited over an hour to pickup but she didn't even think of offering that option. She just hung up. Surreal. She was totally panicked and unable to "generally manage" the most basic of situations. Why have takeout menus at the register? Thankfully, the new Black Sheep restaurant ( bsbaa.com ) up the street was ready, willing and able to deliver. The owners of Piper clearly don't know how to hire or train their staff. And if the GM is an owner, this management won't get any better.

Pizza and mashed potatoes were very good . My mom said the walleyed dish was excellent.

Outstanding experience! Excellent food, try mushroom medley pizza! Great selection of wines and beers. outstanding service. Prices are very affordable for such a quality food. Highly recommend and oh... super kid friendly (always a plus)

In honor of my maternal grandparent's 60th wedding anniversary, we celebrated here late last month. My relatives had really wanted to make a reservation at a place in Grand Rapids, but my grandpa insisted on this restaurant. Since it was his celebration, they figured he deserved to pick his restaurant despite the fact that Grandma and he are going a bit senile. We braced for a mediocre meal. Well, I think we were all universally pleasantly surprised by the niceness that turned out to be Piper Restaurant. Other than the fact that our celebration was usurped by other, bigger, parties, which meant we didn't get a separate celebration room or a view of Lake Macatawa, we had a great time. And hey, we were able to walk out to the lake after our three-hour dinner and enjoy it then. Move over other restaurants in the Holland area, there's definitely a new cool kid in town. Although my older relatives report their service was only ok, those of us stuck at the "kids table" had a great server. He was friendly, had tons of great recommendations off the menu for cocktails, appetizers, wine, and entrees, and we even ended up showing each other pictures of each others' pets on our smart phones. That was pretty cool. The specialty martini was really good, as was the wine, so I forgive them for my first cocktail being a tad too sweet. Generally, Piper kept me happily buzzed and well-fed enough to successfully get through a large family dinner full of small-talk with people I haven't seen in years. Thanks for the memories, three glasses of red wine!

This looked like a perfect place for Happy Hour. In fact there was a sign on the main road! Annual girls weekend and we wanted to sit out side. Seriously the worst customer service we have experienced! We couldn't sit outside, (there was no one in the restaurant) we could only have cocktails in the bar which had no view of the water, and we couldn't move two more chairs to the 2 person tables (there were 4 of us)! And there was no one in the bar! Would never go back! We went down the road to a competitor and had a BLAST! My advice..keep going, do not stop!

Amazing food. Amazing view. Great atmosphere. Couldn't ask for more of a wonderful place for dinner. My kids love their wood fire pizza and I could eat their goat toast app all day, every day! We love coming here. Pat is amazing and always makes sure to stop by and say hello. As for the food, everything is paired together perfectly. The menu offers something for everyone. They also offer gluten and dairy free options. If you want a place that will wow you, go to Piper.

Our food was good, our service was HORRIBLE. We came on opening day of Tulip weekend. We were prepared for a busy restaurant. We called ahead and reserved a table. We were excited to be told we'd have a table on the "upper deck" in about an hour. When we arrived at our reserved time (7:30) the sun was setting. On the upper deck that equaled a blinding reflection off the water and bright flickering from the ceiling fan. Upper deck isn't all it's cracked up to be. I also felt sorry for the wait staff having to haul up our food in 3 trips. (Piper, maybe install a dumbwaiter??) As for the timing of our service. It was AWFUL. i got the impression our waiter was new so at first I gave her the benefit of the doubt. We ordered and WELL over an hour later we were still waiting. She came and apologized. The manager came and apologized siting a problem with their computer ordering system. They comped a KIDS meal from our bill ($5!!) and offered us free deserts. At this point we'd been there for nearly 2 hours and we wanted get somewhere by 10 pm. We ordered desserts to go, including a Brûlée (which isn't something we order often). We got a visit from another waitress after who warned us if we wanted that they wouldn't be "able to make it pretty". Wasn't really sure what that meant, would have been nice if when she said "pretty" she would have said the Brûlée will be in a box *RAW*. It wasn't edible.

Hard to believe this place is dinner only. I used to love the afternoon views. Was making this a part of my upcoming travel plans. Oh well .... onward and upward ...
(3)Sheryl R.
This was on our GO TO list but after reading the reviews not sure it's worth the extra travel time or expense. Don't understand the car towing thing....no parking until 5 PM or WHAT? Can someone explain? I understand they are only open for dinner at 5 PM. The couple waiting 2 hrs for food? Don't you think they would have a back up plan for equipment failures? To many other good places to go and spend our $$$ so would love more recent 2015 input on this place.

Made our annual trip to enjoy dinner at the lake. We arrived at 5 p.m. amd were seated at a lovely table by the window. Enjoyed Caesar bowl, chili prawns, & split steak hash with husband. Loved the fresh approach in combining sweet potatoes, sweet corn, blue cheese crumbles& steak. The flavors combined nicely and we left feeling full. Our service was attentive and timely. We enjoy the view almost as much as the delicious food. As for the parking issue noted, I'd assume that the posted signs apply to marina parking, not Piper parking. Strange. Never had a problem as the marina closes up at 5pm.

Gumbo gets a C+. Couldnt find the jumbo prawns in it. Caesar salad a B. Scallops and tuna were very small and not worth the price. See my picture. Tuna was raw. I had to send back. The waitress said they serve it rare to medium rare. There is difference between medium rare and raw. Upon being seated i asked for the table outside that someone was leaving. I was told it was promised to a couple in the bar. I was told they would get me when one opened up. I got up in the middle of the meal and saw that table and 3 others empty. I complained to the manager and she assumed i didnt want to move because others were cold. I moved and am writing this outside looking at boats on the lake. They had to bring me extra scallops because the cook thought they were small. Seriously you didnt notice when you started cooking! View gets 5 stars. Menu gets 3.5 stars. They have lots of pizza and limited seafood to be known as a seafood restaurant. Service gets 5 stars. Presentation is nice but on the high price end for main dishes. Sides including soup and salads were more reasonable. Thank you for the excellent chocolate mousse dessert because of the issues. I have been told by the hotel that this place gets crowded so do call ahead seating.

Great location, outdoor seating is minimal, less than 10 tables. The decor inside the restaurant is clean, but dated, something your grandmother would love, however. There are strange, slightly tacky, vinyl shades over the windows which they open once the sun goes down. Attire is more of a dressy casual. Noise level is the murmur from the patrons. I heard music, but it sounded like it came from the first floor. The food is the best part, as it should be. Every detail and taste combination has been carefully thought out. I had the summer lasagna and it was one of the best vegetarian dishes I've experienced in a restaurant. My whole table loved each bite of their dishes as well. My rating of the restaurant would be much higher if the atmosphere was better, and if the decor looked like it matched the prices

My family has a house within walking distance to this restaurant. We had a large group of people in town and decided to have dinner here. The night before a few of us decided to go over for some drinks and check it out. We started with the hostess and explained we would like to get some drinks. My sister asked me if I would like to sit outside, the hostess then interrupted in a gruff tone and stated "Not if your only have drinks". I understand they want to save the outdoor seating for people who are having dinner, but there is a polite way to speak to people. We started thinking about ordering some food and told the hostess we were going to ask my sister;s boyfriend if he would like to sit outside and have dinner (he was standing about 20 feet away). She rudely stated, "Well, I'm not waiting for you so you need to tell me right now whether it's dinner or drinks." Uhhhhh, drinks it is. We went to sit at the bar area and ordered a round of drinks. The drinks took forever to get. My sister's boyfriend's beer was sitting on the counter for ten minutes while the bartender chatted up other people. There is one thing I cant stand, warm beer. It was killing everyone just to sit there watching the beer and her just hanging out. Finally she brought the beer over. She didnt ask if we wanted more drinks, no one checked on us. Finally, the bartender said, "Oh no! DId those mixed drinks taste alright? I forgot to add simple syrup." But, then she walked away and didnt offer to remake the drinks. We did not eat but the food looked really good and the view is beautiful. Unfortunately, we will not be back. We changed our dinner plans for the following night and decided to go somewhere else. Basic customer service is what this place needs to work on.

We had a somewhat dated gift card so we called to check the balance, $90, and we were told it was still good. Made plans, babysitter, et cetera, drove the hour it took us to get there. When we got there, after we were seated, we asked the host, who turned out to be Pat Eldean - the owner and general manager, to double check the balance. She said she verified the balance of $90 but we wouldn't be able to spend it because a different system would not recognize it to process the payment. As the owner and general manager she was rude stating she would not do anything for us. She made a commitment to search their records and follow up with me the next day and never did. I understand our gift card was a couple years old, but it can be hard to get out with kids, not to mention the hour drive for us. We tried to make a special occasion out of this trip to the lakeshore, ruined by this experience. We were floored that as the owner, she refused to do anything to make things right. We called first to verify the balance... And we're told it was good! I am sure Pat is the one we talked to on the phone even. I guess there is $90 in their coffers that they didn't have to work for.

In Holland and found this lovely place. Had lamb poppers, roasted kale and blackened scallops. All great! Service very friendly and attentive. Dessert was a butterscotch caramel with candied walnut with raspberry and salted chocolate bark. Its all that!

I was given a task when we were at the Ottawa beach: Finding a restaurant with a nice view. Piper was the second one I called and kindly arranged our reservation on a busy labor day weekend night. It was a beautiful Marina view when we got there. The window seats were gone so we were seated at the loft, basically right on top of the bar area. Our waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable on what they are offering. The appetizers were duck tacos and blackened scallop. The scallop was excellent. Duck tacos were fine. Kids had the BYO pizza and they were very happy with those. My husband and I kind of shared Choptle Port chop and Pan grilled Trout. Get the pork! There were two thick chunk in the plate. It was still a bit pink inside. It was marinated just right to get the meat a great flavor then grilled to perfection. It was tender and juicy. Definitely the best pork chop I have had for a very long time. Among the fish we ordered, Fried Walleye, Trout, and whatever Jack, fried Walleye tasted the best despite I usually is not a fan for fried food. I also had a bite of the steak which was tasty and tender too. We were content in the end when it was one hour passed there 9pm closing time when there were still quite a few tables eating. Friendly services, Delicious food, and a great view. What else would we ask for. It is a perfect place for a nice romantic dinner. Just a note that if you are at the Ottawa beach, you will have drive more than 20 minutes to get to this side of the Lake Macatawa unless you have a boat.

The Piper gave us the single best meal of our recent Michigan vacation. We walked in, and were seated immediately at a window table. We requested the food-sensitivity menu for Therese H., who ordered: *gluten-free Lobster Spuds, *a Salad with 4-oz of Bistro Steak, and *a glass of wine. I came in ready for fish, but the Roast Pork Loin Special sounded so good that I changed my mind, and I'm glad I did. It was one of the best pork dishes I've ever had -- can't find the description any more -- but *the pork loin was especially tender, *it was served with (I think) red grapes, leeks, squash, and pureed sweet potato, *I paired the plate with Founders All Day IPA ... delicious! On its own, the food was very good, but add the context -- window seat overlooking the marina, summer sunshine illuminating our food but not shining in our eyes -- and we were basking in the glow of fine-dining heaven. These days, there are several good restaurant options in the Holland area, but it's difficult to believe that any can offer you a better view and value than the Piper.
(5)Barbara S.
Beautiful setting. We had a window table and a first row seat for the sunset. Server was new, but very attentive. I had the special which includes a salad. The salad was a little generic. But fresh. The tenderloin tips and mushrooms were great. Very tender and flavorful. I had the toffee pecan pudding cake for dessert. Tasty and very appropriately seasonal.

So disappointed to be writing this review. I have been going to the piper every year for almost 20 years. We have had private events there and have always made this place a priority when staying at the lake. On Friday night while waiting for our reservation time our car was towed from the pipers lot. Apparently we arrived 15 minutes before the cut off time (5pm) and the owner had our car towed. When we went to speak with her about the misunderstanding she immediately became defensive and rude. Her response was, and I quote, "to consider finding another restaurant since our food probably won't taste very good." I was blown away at her lack of customer service and her downright horrible attitude. Long story short we worked out a deal with the tow truck driver and got our car back ( still had to pay of course!) and we ended up eating dinner there since we had little kids who were ravenous by this time. Food was okay but we will never be back. It has lost its charm and clearly Pat Eldean is not concerned one bit about the customers that are making her wheels turn.

Not what I expect for the type of price point attached. I visited the Piper on a Tuesday. As a table of 3 we did not have a reservation but the restaurant was able to accommodate us after a short wait. That was my fault but the restaurant not being on OpenTable did not help as I would have used the app to book. That aside, we were seated after a short wait and as I said, the wait was to be expected being as I did not have a reservation. We were greeted promptly and out drinks were ordered. We had several menu related questions that were efficiently answered and we proceeded to place our order. I was very specific in the order that I expected the items that I place to come out in that I was ordering an appetizer, salad and another appetizer for an entree. One of the guests I was dining with ordered the soup as well as his entree and the third ordered an entree salad. After a relatively long wait all of the food came out at once. I am not sure if this was a kitchen fail or a server fail but it was not as expected. Several of the plates were extremely hot meaning that they had sat under the heat lamp and to be honest it rather ruined the dining experience. I conveyed to the server imminently that I was not pleased with the delivery of the food. She apologized and excused herself. When coming back to check on the food she apologized again and said that having spoken to the manager we would receive a dessert. While not ideal there was nothing that could be done about the delivery at this point. The Wedge salad was excellent but the Paella was dry and flavorless. The oysters were nicely presented and the gumbo, I was told, had nice flavor. There was a sausage that was served with my Mother's entree that had a nice flavor but it was so dry that it was almost inedible. We ordered dessert and I will say the two desserts that were ordered for the table were excellent. Here is where I will add to the disappointment. For a table of $96.00 in food that came out poorly and all at once the dessert for the table should have been comped. Not just a single dessert to share. Additionally, this was a management issue. The floor manager should have come over to the table, apologized and offered dessert for the table. Not left that to the server. All in all my disappointment at the experience will weigh heavily and I do not plan on visiting Piper Restaurant again. For the price point I expect and deserve better.

Great atmosphere being by the marina. The food was delicious and service was extremely friendly.

Love, love, LOVE this restaurant. While on vacation, we selected the Piper restaurant for a romantic evening meal. We found the restaurant using the Find Me Gluten Free app. They are GIG certified and allergy friendly. And, they do it right. I tried several dishes from appetizers to desserts and had no problems, whatsoever. The food was outstanding! Fresh, whole food, cooked to perfection allowing the true flavor of the food to shine. The caramel flan with sea salt and raspberries was to die for. We dined on a Saturday night so the place was pretty packed. After a 20 minute wait, we were seated near the bar. It wasn't the best view in the place but there really isn't a bad seat. The dining room is set up in a semi-circle. The floor has "bleacher-type" risers so each table is raised slightly higher than the table in front of it allowing each table to have a view of the gorgeous bay. Being that the restaurant is right on the bay, the dress is casual. However, if you feel like dressing up a bit, you can do that without feeling like you stick out. If you take full advantage of the menu the meal can get a bit pricy but the food is worth it. Also, on a busy night it can get a bit loud but that just guarantees the eavesdroppers at the next table won't be able to hear your conversation. The only downside to the Piper is the bathroom placement. To get there you have to walk down stairs, through a long corridor, buy a bus ticket, and take a canoe ride. Just not convenient. I'll suffer through though- it's worth it. We'll be going back.
(5)Michael D.
Recently wanted to eat there with my family. Called ahead to "get in line" then drove 25 minutes to the restaurant. My wife went in before me and they told her 45 min to 1 hour to get a table. We decided to leave in the lobby until I asked my wife if she used my name with the hostess because I called in advance. She said she did not so I walked in separately and told them my name and said how long.......45 minutes to in hour for a table. Don't buy the call in advance stuff....

Love the Piper for the view/location, keep coming back because of the Food Sensitivity Menu. VEGAN OPTIONS! GLUTEN FREE OPTIONS! A must try are the sweet potato fries. They are served with a spicy ketchup, and are a crowd pleaser. Yummy! You also can't go wrong with a Pomegranate Martini! There are lots of regulars, so it can get busy. Make reservations, if you can. Request a view of the marina. There are very few "bad" seats, but sitting near the bar isn't a great view. The decor has lots of artwork from the owners son, be sure to check it out. He has even faux-marbled the bar. Follow the artwork downstairs on your way to the bathrooms. Service is good, and servers are knowledgeable. Many people love serving for the Piper and work there for years. Kitchen staff has some turnover, but food is consistent.

Called to see how long the wait was for a party of 10 plus a high chair. Was told the wait was an hour. Asked to put our name on the list. Was told they couldn't accommodate a group of our size tonight. If you can not accommodate a large group, perhaps you should have a large or more competent staff. We won't attempt to ever come back. Don't waste your time!

Great location and atmosphere and good food. The views and decor of the Piper are some of the best in Holland. It has an eclectic charm and does a good job showcasing the beautiful views of the marina and lake. The food is good, but I generally go more for the feel of the restaurant than the food. It's nothing to turn your nose up at, there's good variety and quality for somewhat expensive price tag. I think the best thing I can say about the food is that it's what you'd expect from a nice restaurant, but nothing special. However, that doesn't stop me from coming back. I've sampled pizza, duck, filet, and chicken. All were good but not memorable (see the trend yet?). Order something you generally like and I would be surprised if you didn't like it. Waitstaff has neither impressed nor offended me. Pat, the owner, on the other hand, always seems to be there and we've had several positive interactions with her! The Piper is a Holland classic and I would recommend it if you're looking for a nice dinner out!

Amazing vegetable Lasagna with views that are unmatched and wait service that is friendly and efficient. The vegan choices are wonderful with all local produce.

The first thing that stands out for me the great location and the great view. Located directly on a marina on Lake Macatawa the window seats are great. Banquet hall on the first floor and restaurant on second but they have an elevator for those who need one. It's a popular restaurant so expect a wait. We got lucky though. Told 45 minutes and got called in ten. Simple quirky nautical theme where it's obvious the owners love their family. Our server was great. Very knowledgeable and efficient. The walleye was very good with only a few bones found. Brick oven pizza was good but not Chicago PIzza great. After dinner we left the car in the lot and took a great walk out to the Big Red. Nice time.

Had one great experience here and one really bad. Going to assume what happened tonight was an anomaly, but after ordering our drinks we waited 20 minutes before finally asking the hostess where our waiter was. He came back with 3 of 5 drinks wrong, then disappeared for longer, and the girl who came to refill our drinks (after we had to get up to ask again) got our order wrong, then disappeared never to be seen again. Our food was mostly bad - very cold steak, way overdressed salad. BUT at the end they were very apologetic and comped two of the five of us on our bill. Experience last year was very positive so I'll give it a second chance.

Husband and I love dining here. We are "regulars" :) Very good quality food which is presented beautifully. Even 3 vegan dishes. Staff is friendly (we now have a regular server:) and the view of the marina is amazing! One thing they should change- Please filter the water! You should never taste chlorine when at a restaurant. Highly recommend The Piper!

Pat runs a solid lineup. The staff food and view was first class. The walleye and gumbo as well as other items on the menu were world class. Then there is the great view of the lake, what a great place!
