This is one of the those restaurants that you eat at and afterwards wonder "why the hell is this place located in a strip mall in Livonia?" Seriously. This place is authentic Mexican food, well prepared for a reasonable price. Thank you for being a mile from my house, but El Coyote Loco you deserve better. For starters, you can get chorizo here. Two-stars off the bat for that alone. Growing up downriver your Mexican meat options were low-grade beef or chicken. No frills whatsoever. Not only do they have chorizo, but they also have QUALITY steak, chicken, pork, beef and a few other options that unfortunately are slipping my mind as I write this review. If you're a fan of a more traditional, street style of taco then you're in luck. Their street tacos come on two medium sized corn tortillas loaded with the meat of your choice and topped with fresh cilantro and white onion with a wedge of lime on the side. They also offer the more common, Americanized flour tacos in soft and hard varieties, as well as numerous other Mexican dishes. The waitstaff is nice and very patient if you have any questions about the menu. Don't be afraid to ask about a menu item. There is no pretense at Coyote Loco. Like others have stated, there are a couple small tables, so this place is primarily a takeout only establishment. However, I have stopped there many a times by myself and enjoyed a meal while watching the patrons come and go.

This was a GREAT surprise for lunch! I went to the plaza fully intending on Tubby's but when I saw the pictures in the window here, I had to stop. I had one of their specials -- large quesadilla and soft drink -- made with steak. It came with a side of salsa which was obviously homemade and I ordered a side of sour cream. As I was waiting for my food (and, like other Yelpers said, it was kind of a long wait) I found more things on the menu that I can't wait to try! I was tired of the Subway/Senate fair in the plaza kitty corner so I am super excited I found this and will be back!

The food here is pretty awesome. Only thing I don't like is the wait. It takes them forever to make an order. However, their food is pretty authentic and delicious. Defintely would order from here again.

Absolutely fantastic food. I'm in the area for training this week so I'm eating at places recommended by Yelpers. I ordered the chicken wet burrito plus a side of guacamole and chips. Everything tasted super fresh. The guacamole was probably the best I've had in a long time. Definitely would come back if I was in the area again.

Fast food, quality ingredients, and location, location, location. No frills take away for those who want great food for dinner at home. I have had nothing but excellent service and meals from here. We have extensive suburban Mexican fare experience, and this place delivers. You should have no reservations ordering your next weekday, busy- day, no cooking day meal from here. The guacamole is sensibly sized, the chips are plenty and main entrees will fill you up with left overs.

quality is ok. too pricey for mediocre food. the place is a bit of a dive. it'a good take out joint with take out quality food. if you are looking for good dine in quality food, this is not the place. however, i'm spoiled. i used to live in southern california where great mexican fare was abundantly available.

I went to this place for lunch during work one day because everyone raved about it. It's a no frills blink and you'll miss it type of place which, in my experiences usually turn out to be pretty good. It was a simple menu but had all of the things that you would expect to see on a menu. It seems like it's mostly a take out place but there are a few tables to eat at. I got bean tostadas which were simple, fresh and delicious. The tostada shell was nice and crip like they cooked them there. The salsa and guacamole were very good and seemed like they were made fresh there. I left regretting not ordering some chips and salsa to go.

This is definitely a take out place. There are three small tables, that are really to just sit at while waiting for your order. My husband and I has the chicken burrito dinner. We thought that it was just okay - kind of bland for Mexican. The rice and beans were nothing special either. For our kids we ordered the taco plate. The tacos were rather good. The shells seemed like they were made fresh. We also ordered some chips - yes, chips are extra - and they were warm and fresh too. The salsa was simple, but freshly made as well. If we go back, we will probably stick with the chips and tacos.

I'll agree the customer service is highly lacking but the food is really good. I love the beans and rice. I like the tampequeina, it's a nice variety that can actually be split into 2 meals. A little pricey though.

Nine dollars for two - less than mediocre tacos, decent rice and beans and a bottle of water. I read the reviews and saw "authentic" so, knowing what "authentic" Mexican is, decided to give it a try. The tacos were in a deep fried corn tortilla - crunchy to a point of almost over cooked. I really just like a soft corn tortilla so this was the first disapointment since there was nothing to indicate this style of taco. Okay cool, I thought no biggie, let's dig in and see what this baby's got. That was when the real let down happened - ground beef - and not high end ground beef - more like a pink slim, taco bell ground beef. If you are new to this place, as they seem to have a following, ask questions before placing your order. I clearly missed something and messed my own up. I see pictures that resemble authentic, but I think they defaulted me to what I know as "American style". Oh well, the search continues for better Mexican food. The have concluded good Mexican food in this area is as elusive as big foot.

Tried this place last night after having it bookmarked forever. This will be my new go to Mexican place. The food was fresh and delicious and the guy working the counter was really patient with us when we took forever deciding what we wanted. I had beef chimichangas, which were crispy and not at all greasy. The chips were crisp and the salsa pleasantly mild. Delicious. Can't wait to go back.

I used to work around the corner from Detroit's Mexican Town, and missed high quality, fresh and as authentic as possible for Michigan Mexican food. I've been here several times now, and have been impressed with the cheese enchiladas, flour tacos, and real tamales. The salsa is to die for.

Came here with my friend from Mexico and we both thought the food was excellent and authentic. The Mexican tacos are just how I like them with double corn tortillas.

Been meaning to go to El Coyote Loko for YEARS! It's always been on the back burner and I never felt motivated to go until the I-96 closure that started this week. Slow moving traffic is a definite motivator especially when it's much better waiting for food than it is waiting in traffic. I've already been there twice this week so that's gotta say something, I must really crave Mexican food when I am stuck in traffic. My husband told me that this joint is owned by the same people who own Armando's in Mexicantown so the food is similar. He stated it was less greasy but still as good as Armando's. I really enjoyed the hard tacos. I'm usually a soft taco kind of girl but these tacos were so crisp I couldn't help but eat more than one. The Coyotitos are my new obsession. Flour chips? Why can't I find flour chips anywhere else? They were especially good when eaten immediately. I just wish there were more jalapenos on it. Now I'm kicking myself wishing I had actually made the effort to try this place years ago. I guess that finding "new" food spots can be seen as a positive to the hell that I'll be living for the new few months with I-96 being shut down. I foresee myself becoming a regular very soon. Makes for a great snack in the car on the long trek home.

This place is great! It's like Mexican Town quality but in Livonia. My boyfriend and I went here on a whim on our way home from Plymouth one night (restaurants there are always packed and we were starving and I found this on google maps) and we both decided we'll go back again when we're starving to relive the experience! The food is great and the guys who run the place are really sweet. They give you your food in to-go containers but there are a couple tables inside so you can sit and eat if you can't wait to take it home. And we really couldn't wait! We'll be back again soon! :D

This is for service for today's visit. Requested extra beans with our dinner instead of rice, but got home 20 minutes later ( thank 96 traffic) to find 2 medium containers of rice. CRAP!!! So try to call and for the 20 minute drive back could not get through!!!! Busy - please hold- disconnect- busy- hold- disconnect! WTF??? It's cinco de mayo one should have someone to answer their phone while another takes care of the line going out the door. To say the least, my Irish temper was flaring. Anyone driving plymouth road knows what a treat that can be.... Explained the mistake and nothing... No apology ( that is until I was walking out the door and said with a chuckle) really??? No offer of anything for the inconvenience . So it was a treat to drive back home to my now cold dinner.. Try reheating fried tacos... Mexican restaurants are a dime a dozen in the area. Service is as important as the food. I will drive extra miles for good service.

Absolutely fabulous authentic Mexican fare. The salsa is fresh and cilantro-y. Definitely get the Coyotitos - fried flour tortilla chips covered in delicious toppings... only about half of these ever make it home! They have a wide range of items to choose from, so it will suit whatever kind of Mexican dish you have a taste for. There's not a lot so far as indoor seating is concerned, but the food holds up well on the drive home (no soggy tacos when you open the containers). The portions are a little on the small side - at least compared to what I'm used to from a more "sit-down" restaurant. But they for sure have the 'quality over quantity' thing going for them! And that's not to say that the portions may just seem smaller because it's such good stuff that it practically gets inhaled ;)

Very nice and clean joint, gets very busy at nighttime but it's worth it, food was better then expected and services were also good

Turrible! The Mexican tacos were flour and NOT corn. The tamale dinner was bland and sub-standard fare. I really expected higher quality food. The kicker is that this place is more expensive than the usual Mexican dives. I'm not coming back.

Perfect lunch or dinner carry out place. There are four small tables if you get there early enough you can score a seat. Otherwise plan on taking it with you. You can get a lunch with pop for $7ish. I had the bean burritos and chips and salsa. The lunches come with rice and beans. Wow. Super fresh, perfectly spicy and the beans are the perfect consistency. I didn't find that the wait was long, but if it is perhaps it is because there are many people that call their order in ahead. I will be back.

I haven't been to El Coyote Loco in quite a while, so I decided to go for lunch today. I got the Coyotito's with chicken and they were fantastic. Imagine melt in your mouth crispy flour nachos. A little price, but enough for 2~3 meals. I wish they had a small size. I also got a couple of chorizo Mexican style tacos. Talk about tasty! I realy need to stop in more often!

I went during lunch and picked up a carry out for my family. Everyone agreed the food was mediocre at best and definitely overpriced for what you get. Far worse than the food was the service. The guy at the register was very rude. Even if the food had been amazing, I would never give business to a restaurant (and I use this term lightly) that believes in hiring someone who is so rude. I will never go back to this place. I would have been better off picking up food from Taco Bell. The food and the service are far superior.

More authentic than your normal local Mexican place. It is a small business in a strip mall. Not a place you would want to dine in at, as there are only a few tables and a small dining area. Chips and salsa will not come with your carry out, however they do taste good. Guacamole is way too expensive. I've never had the botana, but I've heard it's one of their best items. Good portion size on the botana as well. I usually get carry out and the portion sizes are lacking. The beans and rice are stuffed into the same styrofoam container as your dinner, which will sometimes cause things to spill onto each other. Make sure to check your carry out, as they mess up orders regularly. All in all it's probably a place to grab a quick lunch or find a particular item that you crave and order a platter. One of the more decent Mexican options nearby.

I found this place online just Googling Mexican food. I am so glad that we found it! This place has the best Mexican food outside of Mexican Town. We have tried the corn tacos, beef burritos, enchiladas, beans, rice and salsa. I would recommend all of these items! The salsa is the best around, especially the hot, and I make sure to order extra when I go here. If you go here, make sure to call ahead as there will be a wait as they cook everything fresh!

Very similar to the authentic Mexican food I had down at Mexico. A great surprise and find! A bit on pricy side but everything tasted great! Loved pico de gallo! a small annoance - You can't get a cup of water; you have to buy bottled water. I wanted a cup of water after drinking a pop, but they "don't have water". okay...

Stopped in here this past Saturday with my fiance on the search for some Amazing traditional Mexican Street Tacos (none of that cheese, sour cream, lettuce, tomato crap! Meat, onion, cilantro- hot sauce on the side. DONE.). Per usual... YELP did NOT steer us wrong. It's a small joint designed for take out and a quick bite. We chose to eat in at 1 of the 4 small tables because we smelled the delicious aroma coming from the kitchen. We couldn't wait to dig into our food. I ordered 1 chicken and 1 chorizo street taco. The chorizo was some of the best I've had, it was moist, flavorful, spicy, and just greasy enough. They came with a variety of hot sauces so you can be your own spice maestro. Mixing and matching different bites. We also ordered chips and their housemade salsa. The salsa was fresh and delicious. The fiance enjoyed his meal as well (he's a hard judge coming from a family who also owns a Mexican restaurant in FL)- he got 2 chorizo tacos and a tamale lunch. The tamales were fluffy, flavorful, and moist just as tamales should be. They also have more Americanized menu items to satisfy everyone's taste buds: chimichangas, enchiladas, fajitas, ect. We got all of that and 2 drinks for $22. That's a deal for great Mexican food right in our backyard of Livonia. I can honestly say we are going to be regulars of this place and cannot wait to come back! See you soon El Coyote Loko, real soon.

If you're looking for hard shell tacos because American commercialism has convinced you for so many years that, that is Mexican food. Then I'm sorry, you've been duped. If you've realized that maybe it's time to try something real and ready to use the word 'tortilla' and NOT 'taco shell' then you will LOVE this place. Came here today after looking for a close place to get REAL MEXICAN FOOD. A few days ago I had went to Qdoba and was disgusted at the teenage boy trying to roll an overstuffed burrito. It reminded me why I steer clear of the phony excuse for Mexican food that Qdoba, Chipotle and Panchero's pump out. If you like those places then El Coyote Loko will blow your mind. This is a good mix of authentic and American. By that I mean they have Tamales, tacos and burritos. Fajitas, rice, enchiladas and chimichangas also make an appearance on the menu giving you a good deal of variety for such a small place. I ordered the Tamale lunch plate and two chorizo tacos. FUCK YES! First off the tamales were soft, moist and tasted fresh. I was skeptical at first, thinking they would be left over or dry seeing as it was only 1pm. I was so happy I ordered them. Two tamales with rice and beans and a pop. The tamales were a decent size, not big but enough food to satisfy a normal human being. Seeing as Michigan ranks #5 in obesity you might want to add a taco or two to your order. We're coming for you Alabama! I added two chorizo tacos and an order of chips & salsa. The salsa was fresh and definitely made in house. Along with the chips came a couple extra cups of different style salsas. All of them varied in spicyness but all of them were good. The chorizo in the tacos was amazing. No fatty or hard gristle pieces, just quality flavor and meat. It was juicy and the tortillas were slightly crispy. This is the shit that you don't find at corporate run Mexican places. This is the food that built a country and isn't correctly represented by places like "Chipotle" or "Qdoba". Qdoba isn't even a real fucking word. So with that, I say fuck you Pancheros, fuck you Chipotle and fuck you Qdoba. Fake ass Mexican food. El Coyote Loko as the real shit! GO THERE!

One of my favorite take-out Mexican places, if not my favorite. Everything I've ordered has been extremely authentic, delicious and fresh. Love it.

Hands down, by far the best carry out mexican I ever have, or ever will eat. I'm confident of that. Everything chicken there is great. Nothing wrong with the beef, I am just preferable to the chicken and I can't say one negative thing. Enchaladas, Tacos, Chimichangas. What time do they open?????? I just got done telling my new pal Jenn about this place and this Toni chick beat me to the punch. They just do carry out really. you can sit and wait for your food to cook if one of the seats is available, but really it's not a dine-in type place. It's just Styrofoam containers filled with bestest Mexican goodness your debit card can buy.

I would consider this place to be takeout only. Yes, there are a couple of tall tables, but I've never seen anyone actually eating there. Just waiting for their carry out. That said, the food is good, very good. A couple of our favorites are the coyotitos (flour tortilla chips covered in beans, guac, sour cream and jalapenos), six pack of crunchy beef tacos, bean tostadas, chicken enchiladas suiza. Ken likes their Mexican-style tacos, especially the 'mixed' one (chorizo plus beef) and the tamales (which they regularly sell out of on the day they're the special). Their guacamole is the best I've had in a long time, and, even better, consistent. Their salsa is spicy and obviously homemade. My one beef is with their hours of operation. They are not open on Sunday. They do not open until after noon on Saturday. And I swear they close when they want - we've driven by before on a Saturday night at 8:30pm, and they were already dark inside.

My kids and I stop in here every so often. The food is good. We always try new things and it's always very fresh. The prices are high, our last bill was $29.83 for 3 meals and 3 drinks. There's not much of a dining area, just a few tables. We always eat at one of the little tables but most people do carry-out.

Alright, so I wasn't too worried about this place since it got good reviews, and I'm so glad I stopped here! I've been eating real Mexican food all my life, so I'm quite picky. I got the flour chicken tacos dinner. It is extremely good! The chicken is shredded up finely and full of flavor and moist! Also got guacamole, that is extremely good too, obviously made fresh since they don't add lemon or lime. Hand smashed, home made just the way I like it. This place is really good, I'd definitely come back. They're pricy, but well worth it!!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
