My wife and I had reservations for the Schoolcraft College American Harvest Restaurant International culinary practical exam (that's a mouthful in itself!). You can book them on OpenTable. Food was generally good, plating was great especially for the desserts, and it was very quiet that evening in terms of traffic. Not everything was good but it was worth trying various dishes (it was a buffet).

Wholesome good quality food. This kind of fresh vegetables in the middle of winter in Michigan is only available in very small portions () in very high priced best restaurants. Here they are beautifully cooked and of available in unlimited portions. There were 10 different kinds of salads to 5 different vegetable side dishes for each of their entrees. The different kinds of good quality meat and seafood entrees were also very well prepared. Review will be incomplete without mention of again ten ( literally) different kind of desserts which tasted as as good as they promised by their amazing appearance. For $27/adult and $13 /child this is the best deal around which every foodie should get a chance to visit

This is my third trip to American Harvest, and like the other two, the food was fantastic. For a restaurant that is really a classroom they provide a professional level food experience. Not only are the dishes excellent in their flavor, but the presentation is truly exceptional. The only reason I don't give them 5 stars is that they tend to drop the ball when it comes to service. In all three cases we had to wait an unusually long time before our server approached us with water and bread. Also, although VERY attentive to replenishing the food, the last time I was there the soup bowls/spoons ran out and it took them a long time before they replaced them. I realize this is a teaching environment but you get the distinct impression that the service side of the profession is not stressed enough. A problem easily corrected, and I certainly hope they will because I plan on returning.

A student-staffed restaurant within the Schoolcraft College campus, American Harvest offers lunch and dinner options during the academic year. School has just reconvened and second-year students and their instructors were already hard at work in the front and back of the restaurant. Currently, American Harvest offers rotating, internationally-themed buffet dinners. Recently, the tastes of Europe and the Mediterranean were featured. The menu that evening consisted of: Starters: - Asparagus salad - Polenta - Deviled eggs - Duck terrine - outstanding - Paella Entrées: - House-stuffed sausage with sauerkraut - the sausage was delicious, I could have made an entire meal of this dish alone - Stuffed cabbage - Pork loin and red cabbage with apple sauce and potatoes au gratin - Moussaka - Incredibly good, seasoned well - Coq au vin - full of flavor - Cassoulet - stand-out dish - Spaetzle Dessert: - Crème brûlée - probably the best I had this year with a thin crackling crust - Lemon macaron with a delicate lemon and raspberry filling - better than anything you will find in most bakeries here, exquisite - Several chocolate options - Petit fours - éclair and cream puff - Bread pudding - served warm with a caramel bourbon sauce - also quite a treat Above represents the majority of items offered. There was an impressive variety of well-prepared items but some of them just did not make it to the table. Dinner is $27 per person which is a bargain given the quality of the food and the level of service. Wine is available with the meal. Lunch is a la carte. If you do go for lunch, be sure to order the Marjolaine for dessert - incredible! Last year, the Latin-themed buffet was the most popular which will be featured a few times this fall so be sure to make a point of visiting.

This is a tough place to review. Torn between 3&4 stars. It is a fun experience and some of the dishes are really delicious and top notch. We went for the Latin American buffet dinner and there were some definite hits as well as a few misses. The service was overall pretty decent but again a few misses with that as well. The appetizers were particularly good but the entrees were a bit lackluster with just a few too many predominately rice dishes. Desserts were tasty. At $27 per person it isn't cheap but you could argue given the quality it is worth it. However with the few misses, makes the value not quite there. That being said, we'd go back and try a different night since it definitely has (and occasionally reaches) it's potential.

I have been to this part of Schoolcraft school for business functions. I knew they had a culinary education offering. You can see them teaching class along a glass wall. This was the first time we went to a formal dining. They have pot luck buffets - featuring a style, meat or ethnic group. Or they have specific plan meals. We end up on a buffet night, it was more of a desert final - lots of excellent chocolate deserts. There were a number of entries and salads, a good selection, but the deserts were outstanding - far to many to pick just a few, so we tried most of them. It is a teaching school and the students learn to cook and serve and mange the customers. Some dishes can be hit or miss, and a buffet can be tricky depending on the demand. I would suggest to go as a group and try to engage the students as much a possible. Its a worthwhile evening, and try something new, its an opportunity to try it in a controlled environment.

It's always fun to see what's cookin' in the kitchen and the American Harvest at Schoolcraft's College of Culinary Arts is no exception. Although American Harvest may conjure up images of traditional Americana, the menu that we saw was anything but. It was a mix of culinary cultures, perhaps a reflection of its students' interests. Along with each menu item, was the name of the Schoolcraft College Culinary Arts student who was responsible for each dish. The dining room had a cafeteria-ish vibe to it but we liked the prettily decorated cakes and mini chocolate sculptures that decorated the sides of the room. The room was fairly empty on a weeknight but nevertheless service was spotty. There were some hits and some misses on the menu. We liked the presentation of our Trio of Dumplings appetizer. I tried the Asian Wonton style dumpling and the Chicken Empanada type dumpling and they were good but the latter was a bit doughy. I also tried the soup that day, a Mediterranean Couscous & Veggie soup which was rather bland and heavy on the couscous. My friends tried the 3 and 4 course prix-fixe menus. There was a fish and cream cheese course that was universally disliked. The Salad and Oxtail & Mashed Potatoes courses got a thumbs up. Everyone seemed to like their main dishes. I had a nicely cooked Salmon that came with Green Beans & Rice and a Citrus-y Sauce. The Chocolate Souffle was more cakey and doughy than light and souffle-y but of course we chocolate hounds ate it up. Actually our favorite "dish" was the Lemon Basil Sorbet. It was meant to be a palate cleanser but really it could be featured as a unique and refreshing dessert on its own! I would buy that stuff by the pint. Check it out if you're in the neighborhood!

Not bad! Please keep in mind, that this is a STUDENT operation, and therefore you should dine with that in mind. As another reviewer wrote, these people are essentially paying for the opportunity to serve you. Ate durIng lunch service, which was very busy. Waitstaff was attentive and overall were very good, especially considering how busy they were. Butternut soup with apple 'honey' was yummy. Dining partner's greek salad had interesting, plentiful, beautiful ingredients. Also had the halibut with curry sauce..... I am a BIG fan of the "do not overcook the fish!" .... This piece was literally still cold and raw inside (think sashimi!) but was a nice quality piece of fish. Again - student run, so I ate all but the really cold middle, and it was still very tasty. The desserts alone are worth the trip! Gorgeous, abundant selections....my mouth is watering again just writing about them. Overall, fun experience with nice potions for a reasonable price. Just keep in mind that everyone there is still learning!

I have been to American Harvest a number of times over the years but this is my first review of the place. I have to start by saying that I have only gone for lunch. If you check their website, you will see that lunch and dinner are two different things. The other reviews I have read on Yelp pretty obviously deal with the dinner. So this is a review of their lunch. First, you should check it out. American Harvest is the restaurant for the Culinary Arts program at Schoolcraft Community College. Its primary purpose is to train students in the culinary arts (duh!). So your waiter or waitress is being trained in their job. They are actually paying for the privilege of waiting on you. So, be gracious. Lecture over! First, the desserts. They are fantastic! You have to walk past them to get to your table and everyone seems to walk very slowly. We had the cherries jubilee Friday and loved it. I asked if they were going to serve them this week and my waiter said probably not. It will be something else. The items are always changing but every time I've been there has been numerous chocolate desserts. My wife really likes them. This time I had the Sea Bass and my son had the London Chop House Blue Cheese Cheeseburger. My family always orders different items so we can share. Both of these were hits but we both loved the London Chop House Cheeseburger. I know that's not what it was called on the menu, but that's how I remember it. This is a good place to come with a small (four) group and have a leisurely lunch. There always seems to be at least one vegetarian main item -- this time it was a full sized Greek Salad -- a fish item, a steak item, etc. Friday there were 5 or 6 main items including an interesting looking pizza. Delicious food. Good value. Constantly changing menu. Students happy to be there. What's not to like? I should add, this is my favorite lunch place. Too bad it's closed when school's out.

This is the most difficult restaurant to comment about because of the changing menu and style of eating. One week you can be offered Asian the next European or American. To make sure I conveyed the school's message I will pass along a segment from the email I get on a regular basis. "Dinner seatings begin at 5:30p.m. Tuesday through Friday; reservations are strongly recommended. Discerning palates can savor upscale, yet affordable a la carte International and American cuisine favorites Tuesday through Thursday evenings. Enjoy an extravagant buffet on Friday evening." The desserts are a work of art and worth the time to try as many as you can afford! Most are hits and some are misses but taste dependent. All dinners are skillfully prepared and professionally monitored in a kitchen that truly looks like nothing you've ever seen. Each kitchen area is dedicated to a specific type or process of cooking but the whole place is gleaming stainless steel, truly unique. The dining area is filled with beautiful tables and chairs with meticulously placed silver and glassware. Also you have to remember it is a school and they get the summers and "breaks " like everyone else.

I went to the American Harvest Restaurant with a friend the other day and was very pleasantly surprised. I did expect it to be good and it didn't disappoint. My friend had the veal and I will say that she always orders veal. We had a dinner at one of Matt Prentice's restaurants and his veal was much better. Hers was good but not the best I've ever had. I had salmon. Let me tell you first that I almost NEVER order fish. Don't know why but I did this time and I really enjoyed it. The salads we were served were light and delicious. The bread that went with the meal was delicious., But we messed up BIG TIME on the desserts. We had planned on having Bananas Foster and FORGOT - for Pete's sake. I had a walnut torte and she had creme brulee which is one of my all-time favorites. It was probably the best creme brulee I've ever had. Our service was spot on and our waiter was a joy. We were advised that the bread and other sweets were offered in the store right next to the restaurant after 2:00. Of course we stopped and I bought their cherry bread that makes wonderful toast. They also had some of the lightest, fluffiest biscuits I've ever had. Also, oatmeal cookies and peanut butter cookies with peanut butter chips in them, and corn bread with jalapenos. Yum! Our meal for two, including dessert came to $46. They also have dinner for +$26. I have to say my meal was better than the last time I ate at Andiamo's, and at a MUCH smaller price. They offered 3 or 4 main courses and of course, all the dessert you can eat. Can't wait to go again. Recommend it highly.
